This is a quick enjoyable read.
It’s a book a requested from Net Galley and it went down my kindle and I’d meant to read but didn’t get to.
So I’ve been catching up on my “slipped so far down my kindle” oops page!

It’s not a story that will blow your mind, or make you gush with longing. It’s an OK read that’s passable over a nice coffee and a piece of cake.

This was a really sweet read with a savvy heroine and adorable hero. They are brought together by a custody battle over the baby she cares for.

This story is a great example of "Don't judge a book by its cover." If it hadn't been recommended to me, I probably wouldn't have bought it (although it was a bargain online!) I'm not usually a fan of secret baby stories, nor was I enchanted with the cover picture -- the guy is cute, but I couldn't get a good idea of his face, wasn't immediately in love with him, and also -- there's that secret baby. I don't usually find babies to be very stimulating characters.

However, the story sucked me right in from the first page. Rosalie, our heroine, is a down-to-earth, hard-working, no-frills attorney. She has a sense of humor and she's immensely likeable. And from the moment he walks into Rosalie's office, Morgan Danby, our hero, ignites a fire, in Rosalie -- as well as in the reader.

Morgan is looking for his nephew, the son of his incarcerated half-brother. He has been led to Rosalie as someone who might have answers. What he doesn't know, and what she doesn't want him to find out, is that she is the little boy's guardian. She was entrusted with his care by his mother before she died, sworn to keep him away from anyone in his biological father's family -- for reasons beyond the child's imprisoned dad.

Note I refer to the child not as a baby, but as a little boy. He's not a baby! He's almost two! And some of the most charming moments are when he inserts a toddler-type comment. So right there, I found this little guy to be a good character (more than just a baby) with personality and humor, and I found I was rooting for him to be able to stay with Rosalie, who, though a little obsessive and clingy, had her reasons for worrying.

Morgan has his own reasons for wanting to find his nephew: so he can be raised by his stepmother (the boy's grandma), who's wealthy and could send him to the best schools and meet the best people. But he feels he owes it to her, and has some issues of his own to sort out regarding family.

Rosalie might be a hard-nosed attorney, but Morgan is fascinated by the soft core underneath. He can't seem to stay away from her. It works both ways -- Rosalie is not immune to his charms. The attraction between these two is intense, and the build-up in their relationship is almost agonizing. And it is steamy! There are lots of ups and downs between our hero and heroine to keep the action moving and us guessing. Throw in legal twists and turns and the mystery of how this can possibly all get sorted out, and you've got a story you won't want to put down.

And the story is the reason to pick up this book; it's a good one, told skillfully with adroit touches of humor and insight. So don't judge this book by its cover, or its title, or the annoying copy editing errors that popped up with (what I felt was) disturbing frequency. You'll find yourself chuckling, sighing and enjoying this well-told tale.

Beautiful Story

This is a love story I will reread many times. It truly reveals the layers that a real love can have in spite of all the difficulties that come up.

I skimmed a lot of this book and just didn’t feel any spark. The characters were a bit robotic, and the lead couple had no chemistry at all.

Rosalie is a lawyer and she's the guardian of a young boy named Joey. Rosalie promised his mother that she would take care of him. Mártha, Joey's mother, was killed by her partner Charlie, who also is Joey's father. Since Charlie has been sentenced to go to prison Rosalie will do everything in her power to keep the little boy safe. Rosalie loves this child with her whole heart, but if she would legally adopt him she has no choice but to contact Charlie's relatives.

Morgan has been asked by his stepmother, Lillian, to find out if she is indeed a grandmother. When he steps into Rosalie's office he knows that she is hiding something, but Morgan can't figure out what it is. Morgan is, almost instantly, infatuated by Rosalie and he is wondering what she is hiding under her cool exterior. Lillian is all the family Morgan has left and even though they don't always see eye to eye Morgan will do what is necessary to keep her happy.

Rosalie has always been taking care of others and let their needs come before her own. When her mother was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness Rosalie put everything aside to take care of her. Rosalie's father couldn't cope with having a sick wife, so he left them both and never looked back. This crushed Rosalie's faith in men completely. Rosalie is the only mother Joey has ever known and she put her own personal life on hold to take care of this little boy.

Morgan doesn't have fond memories of his childhood. Being brought up by nannies while living with an abusive stepbrother left its marks. Morgan never thought he wanted the whole family picture, but when he meets Joey he wants to become a part of his life. Morgan tries to persuade Rosalie into a solution that would work out for all of them, but Rosalie is not like any other woman he has ever met. She is special and Morgan wants to learn to understand her.

Rosalie is a smart woman. She has always worked hard for everything and has a good head on her shoulders. Rosalie loves unconditionally and this shows her softer side, which she desperately tries to hide. Rosalie is not a person you can push into a corner. She outsmarts Morgan several times and that made me laugh out loud. I love strong female characters and Rosalie certainly falls into that category.

Morgan is a businessman and he's used to getting what he wants. He is totally confused when Rosalie doesn't respond to his proposal like he thought she would. She keeps Morgan on his toes and makes him want to be a better man. Morgan is a gorgeous, sophisticated and wealthy man. He treats Rosalie with respect and he doesn't mind little Joey to mess up his very expensive clothes. This showed me that he truly is a family man.

Found: One Secret Baby is a story with so many layers. There is so much love for Joey and in the end everything is, and should be, about what is best for him. A child needs a loving home and it warmed my heart that Rosalie loved him so much, even when he isn't her own flesh and blood. The story is also about sadness and grief because of the way Joey lost his biological mother. Nancy Holland's characters are genuine, she describes their best and their worst features and everything in between. On her website Nancy Holland says 'always trust in love' and this beautiful story proves just that.

3.5 stars.

This was an enjoyable, easy romantic read with a seriously cute kid and some lovely bonding moments between him and his uncle. Rosalie is smart and hardworking and a great mum to her little boy, Joey, even if she hasn’t been entirely above board regarding her legal guardianship. Then again, she has every reason to want to keep him away from his family.

Then along comes Morgan, who is also smart, but can add rich and determined on top of that. There’s a good spark of chemistry between the two of them and I loved the scenes between him and Joey.

There is a fair bit of lying in this book, which may or may not affect your enjoyment. I didn’t have a problem with any of it on Rosalie’s side, because she has excellent reasons and the people she’s fighting against aren’t always fair. Morgan tends to be more manipulative, and there’s one moment where he practically throws a tantrum and vows revenge. I really didn’t like him at that point, and even if he doesn’t turn into a super villain, it stopped me from ever liking him fully. He does have a rather spoilt tendency to overreact to things Rosalie does (or doesn’t do) and sulk like a brat.

Which is a shame, because Rosalie and Joey are great and, for the most part, Morgan is good too.

If you’re looking for a quick, enjoyable contemporary with a cute kid, plenty of tension between the protagonists and a little bit of antagonism too, then give this a try. It’s cute at times, has a nice bit of heat and some romantic balloons, not to mention a heroine I could both admire and like. True, the hero wasn’t always perfect, but it still kept me entertained for an evening.

If you enjoy the secret baby trope, with a liberal sprinkling of passionate romance, this story will appeal. Rosalie is an independent, strong character, who has always put her life on hold for people she loves; first her chronically ill mother and then to bring up the young son of a friend who tragically died. She is genuine and selfless and an easy character to root for.
Morgan is from old money and used to getting what he wants. Ruled by duty, he is determined to locate his step brother’s child. He keeps his heart hidden and pushes the emotional and physical abuse of his childhood, to the back of his mind. This makes him appear brusque and unfeeling but when you see things from his point of view, it’s clear he is an emotional man.
The simple plot has elements of menace, which make you shudder, balanced by lots of light-hearted moments with the charming Joey and Rosalie. The romance between Rosalie and Morgan is stormy and full of misunderstanding but the ending is romantic and satisfying.

I started this book super late and I couldn’t put it down. It is a quick read that I couldn’t put it down. It wasn’t your traditional secret baby plot though. The story is well written, with twists and turns that keep you enthralled with the book.
The pull of the story is the lawyer, Rosalie, who was given guardianship of a precious toddler and is now adopting the super cute little boy. His mother was murdered by his father and the man makes now claim to the child.
Enter the Step-Uncle, Morgan, powerful, tall, dark and handsome. The only family left to Lillian, the grandmother, he is helping look for the child that may or may not exist. But instant attraction starts to distract him from the task at hand. When he discovers the child he is torn between Rosalie and Lillian.
The events that unfold in the custody dispute are wild and heart stopping. But will Morgan and Rosalie have a chance at love or will she have to cut all ties with him to say her son?

What a lovely story! From the first page right up until the end it held me captive. When I read the blurb for this book I had visions of some power-suited attorney to the stars female and a "money can get my family everything it wants" male fighting over the baby.

Instead Rosalie Walker was a soft, gentle, woman determined to do the best for the son of her deceased friend, a son she considered her own. So when Morgan Danby shows up at her office, on behalf of his step-mother, determined to find out whether the girlfriend his step-brother had murdered had a surviving child, Rosalie uses his uncertainty to deny all knowledge.

Throw into the mix a cute toddler, a determined grandmother, a particularly nasty grandfather, lots of painting of flowers and an attraction between the two main characters that inevitably ends up in the bedroom, and you have a book I fell asleep reading because I just couldn't put it down.

Main Girl: Rosalie Walker
Main Guy: Morgan Danby

Rosalie is a real sweetheart; she takes in her friend’s baby and wants so badly to protect the baby from his murderous father. Everything is going great until the father’s family comes into the picture and they want to take baby Joey.

Morgan has been sent to find and recover his step-brother’s baby. Just one or maybe more than one problem. He didn’t expect to actually find a baby or fall in love.

I loved the dynamic between the two characters because while women are often written as becoming all tongue tied and basically dumb when they see a good looking guy, Rosalie kicked butt. She wasn’t intimidated by Morgan and she went toe to toe with him.

We do get some crazy other characters come in and they make the drama all the more fun. The final scene was a bit mild, I felt it could have ended on a higher note, but it was still nice.

Baby Joey

This book was ok. The best part of it was Joey, the baby that Rosalie was raising after his mother died. Morgan and Rosalie had trust issues that they eventually conquered. A sweet book with a HEA.

Nice story

Typical but nice romance with characters you like and hate alternately. Predictable, but not completely - enough twists and turns. Fast read - good for summertime and/or the beach.

A good story. A different take on the secret baby theme.

An interesting story. A different take on the secret baby theme but well written. The characters are engaging. some things in the story deal with abuse and can be hard to take. A good way to spend a few hours.
