Dr. David Jeremiah, founder of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, felt God’s calling on his life at a very early age. Born February 13, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Jeremiah was raised in a family deeply committed to ministry. At the age of eleven, Dr. Jeremiah and his family moved to Dayton, Ohio where his father, Dr. James T. Jeremiah, was the Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and in 1953 became the President of Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio.

As Dr. Jeremiah was sensitive to God’s leading in his life, he followed in his father’s footsteps. In 1963, Dr. Jeremiah received a Bachelor of Arts from Cedarville College. In that same year, Dr. Jeremiah married his college sweetheart, Donna Thompson who also was attending Cedarville College as a business major. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1967. He completed additional graduate work at Grace University and was granted the Doctor of Divinity degree from Cedarville College in 1981.

In 1969, Dr. Jeremiah began Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and developed a Christian school grades K through 12. In the 12 years he served as pastor, Blackhawk Baptist Church grew from 7 families to 1300 members. He also launched The Bible Hour television program.

Dr. Jeremiah heeded God’s call, and in 1981 he and his family moved to California where he became the senior pastor of Scott Memorial Baptist Church, now Shadow Mountain Community Church.

Shadow Mountain Community Church is one of the largest churches in San Diego County. It is also the home of Southern California Seminary and Christian Unified Schools.

As Dr. Jeremiah began his ministry at Shadow Mountain, he felt God’s calling to continue the broadcast ministry he started in Fort Wayne. In 1982, Turning Point Ministries became a reality.

Today, Turning Point's 30-minute radio program is heard nationally and internationally on over 1800 stations and translator/satellators. In recognition of Dr. Jeremiah’s commitment to teaching the Word of God, he received the Broadcaster of the Year Award in 1999 from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), in August 2002, received the Award of Merit from the Western Chapter of National Religious Broadcasters for Excellence in Broadcasting and Faithfulness in Service, and in 2006 Turning Point received the Best Radio Teaching Program Award. Dr. Jeremiah has served on the Board of Directors for the NRB since 1996.

Turning Point launched a television program in 1982 in San Diego and went nationwide in 2000. Now seen around the world through cable and satellite technology, as well as on terrestrial stations all across the United States, conservative estimates suggest that close to 200 million homes around the world have access to Dr. Jeremiah's Bible teaching each week. Turning Point Television offers a half-hour Bible study message and a full hour worship service with the same great preaching. Carried on several national and international networks such as TBN, ION, and INSP, Turning Point Television has most recently been added to Middle East TV Network and BET, the Black Entertainment Network.

Dr. Jeremiah is a sought-after conference speaker for organizations around the country. He frequently speaks at Cedarville College, Dallas Theological Seminary, Moody Bible Institute, Billy Graham Training Center, Phil Waldrep’s Senior Adult Celebrations and numerous NFL, NBA and Baseball chapels.

Along with his speaking schedule around the country, Dr. Jeremiah also finds time to fulfill another passion in his life, writing. His books are always gripping and right to the point. Some of his books include Escape the Coming Night, The Power of Encouragement, What the Bible Says About Angels, Prayer The Great Adventure, which brought him The Gold Medallion Award in 1998, God In You, Gifts from God

This book answered a few questions I didn't even know I was asking. And it revealed a few questions I should be asking.

Although there is a few points I don't totally agree with; this book still taught me a great deal about Spiritual Warfare. I think going back to a few topics and re-reading a few chapters will definitely be part of what makes this book a great reference guide for Spiritual Warfare.

This book is a balanced treatment of the complex subject of Spiritual Warfare. It provides an excellent explanation to the Armour of God and how to apply it in a daily manner. It avoids the pitfall of expecting to see Satan behind every bush and tree but does raise the awareness of the ongoing battle.

This is a solid and easy to understand introduction to the concept of spiritual warfare. Though new believers will benefit from it greatly, long-term believers may learn some things as well from this book.

About the Book:

Do you have questions in regard to spiritual warfare?

Trusted pastor and bestselling author Dr. David Jeremiah brings clarity to the complex topic of spiritual warfare. From his years of teaching on this subject, Pastor Jeremiah has selected answers to your pertinent questions concerning victory in the spiritual realm.

The Bible says God will ultimately be victorious and win the spiritual war. But it also says He has given every Christian promises and power to win our daily spiritual battles. The book includes 86 questions with answers such as: How does Satan imitate God? Are demons real? What protection does the shield of faith provide? How can I defend myself against a hostile world? How do I “put on” Christ?

My Review:

Many Christians don't even realize that as soon as they get saved the war for the soul gets really nasty. And they fail to see that from the moment of conception the war began. The devil is a formidable opponent and his goal is not the same as God. His goal is to destroy your life and any plan that God had for it, at all.

The Spiritual Warfare Answer Book, is a great source book to have. David Jeremiah, gives you a virtual guide through the whole process, from knowing your enemy to knowing how to fight him. It is a small book packed with a lot of thorough information and advice to help you fight in the war for your soul.

This book is similar in style to the angel answer book. I think that it didn't start out as strongly as I would have liked it, almost too generic, but then it went deeper for me once he began talking about the Armor of God. I do like the question and answer style.

He also wrote some really convicting statements which were not expected as this book is about spiritual warfare. One example, on page 77, "It's knowing the truth and then allowing that truth to change who we are from the inside out. After all, how can we have any influence in the lives of others about the truth if we're not living the truth in our own life?" These kinds of statements and the Armor of God explanation are the reason I gave it a five. The general spiritual warfare introduction was a four. Once Dr. Jeremiah began discussing the Armor of God, you realize how deep and personal spiritual warfare actually is.

Some other thought-provoking statements-p. 90, Instead of trying to live better, we need to learn how to love better. We need to fall more deeply in love with God because that relationship will dictate our conduct.

I also like the Spiritual Warfare Reference Guide and the Prayer Reference Guide in the back of the book that listed biblical references and the verses that were specific to those two topics. Nice reference when you are wanting verses to back up what you saying or when you need reminders.

This book has two major parts: the first discusses Satan, his origins, and his power; the second is an exegesis of Ephesians 6 on the Armor of God. The book is written in a question and answer format. My favorite thought from the book: “There is no permanent failure in learning to be a faithful disciple of Jesus. If you have had a bad day in your prayer life, purpose to begin again! Don’t give in to the devil’s tactics that are designed specifically to keep you from praying. The enemy of our souls wants to keep us from developing a relationship that he knows will bring joy and satisfaction to us.”

A great easy-to-read book in the form of questions and answers; some answers from comprehensive than some. Sections include: terms of engagement, behind enemy lines, God's armory, the warfare of prayer and the customary conclusion answering the question, "How should I live in light of the spiritual battle before me?". The answers in each section are punctuated by a highlighted statement of the central idea of each passage. There are also quotes on each topic in between. The text is completed by the warrior's prayer, a spiritual warfare reference guide, a prayer reference guide and additional resources from Dr. Jeremiah. It is a useful spiritual resource for believers.

I liked this book. It was easy to read and understand. Based in the Bible, I used this book like a daily devotional. Focusing on spiritual warfare, it is explained, and most importantly how to be victorious in the battle. I appreciate that Dr. Jeremiah is courageous enough to tackle a topic such as this. A helpful read for the Christian that is going though some difficult times in their Christian walk.

An incredible book. Discussion of the enemy and his allies, the benefit of believers and our tools, and the power of prayer. The section about the armor of God is worthy of multiple reads and meditation. A very fast read, to be sure. But incredibly substantive. Jeremiah is an exceptional writer who sticks to the topic at hand. A very fast read. I'd wholeheartedly recommend it for believers. Perhaps also for those non believers curious about Christianity. Great book.

The Spiritual Warfare Answer Book is a helpful resource, for any and all followers of Jesus!
For many followers of Jesus there is a lot of confusion about spiritual warfare and the spiritual realm in general from a biblical perspective. One of the things I like about this book is it will broaden your perspective on spiritual warfare. And since we have a tendency to not talk much about spiritual warfare this book can help broaden understanding of what it is by answering questions about it that you may not even realize you have. I think the name of spiritual warfare alone is challenging for many and can conjure up images that are inconsistent with reality. Jeremiah does well to unpack what Spiritual Warfare is and why it’s important to moving into deeper questions about it.

A large number of pastors and teachers, however, ignore or downplay spiritual warfare to the point that many professing Christians don’t even know they’re in a war. This lack of awareness puts Christians in serious danger. (Why Study Spiritual Warfare?: Location 185)

Jeremiah’s book answers a broad range of questions about spiritual warfare and actually many of these are questions alot of followers of Jesus have without even knowing how the questions relate to spiritual warfare. The formatting of the book helps as well. It is a compact book with short, easy to read question/answer sections specific to spiritual warfare. This allows the reader to jump back quickly to specific questions for further reference. Which is one of the things I like about the book. Here are a few of the questions this book seeks to tackle:

Against Whom Are We Fighting?
How Can I Be Certain I’ve Been Called to Battle?
What Do We Know About Satan’s Origin?
What Caused Lucifer to Fall from Heaven?
How can I discern Satan’s lies from God’s truth
Is Satan God’s Opposite?
What Are Some Ways We Give Ground to the Enemy?
What Is the Purpose of Prayer In God’s Armory?
Am I Really to Pray “Always”? Is That Even Possible?
What Does It Mean to Be “Watchful” In Prayer?
How Can I Develop an Effective Prayer Life?
What Are Some Ways I Can Pray for Others?

Reading this book will open your eyes to the spiritual realm, and better equip you in facing the challenges of fighting unseen forces. For me, my favorite part of the book is the section God’s Armory, where Jeremiah does an excellent job of unpacking what is meant by the “Armor of God” and expanded my understanding of this beyond what other authors have been able to do to date.

When Paul says the well-dressed Christian soldier must wear the “breastplate of righteousness,” he means that the righteousness of Christ should be like a second skin that will protect us from spiritual assaults by our enemy.

We’re fighting in a war that, in essence, we have already won. So even though the battle against Satan rages, we don’t have to fear defeat. We know victory over sin is ours in Christ. So, we put on this helmet of salvation—this knowledge of what Jesus did—and the helmet of salvation is our hope in Christ.

When Paul wrote to the Ephesians, he used the Greek word machaira for sword. He wasn’t talking about what we would think of as a sword today; he was talking about a dagger, a weapon that people used in hand-to-hand combat. That metaphor suggests, then, that the sword of the Spirit . . . is a very precision-oriented instrument.

In other words, the Bible is an armory in which the individual swords of the Spirit are kept until you need them for close combat with the enemy.

The Spiritual Warfare Answer Book is divided nicely into four main sections that each take you further into specifics of Spiritual Warfare:

Terms of Engagement
Behind Enemy Lines
God’s Armory
The Warfare of Prayer
In the first section, Terms of Engagement, Jeremiah explains to us why and how we should be fighting this spiritual battle. Also in this portion of the book he goes over how to be a courageous warrior for God.

In the second portion of the book, Behind Enemy Lines, Jeremiah outlines the strategies and organization of Satan’s army. He points out that Satan is merely a created being.. NOT a God. Satan can only try to copy what God does. According to Jeremiah one of Satan’s greatest tricks is to get people to think there is no devil. In this section the reader will walk through the rise of Lucifer to the fall of Satan, and learn how Satan wants to hurt God by turning His own children against Him.

In the third portion of the book, God’s Armory, Jeremiah describes how God has given us spiritual armor to fight our spiritual battles, and he elaborates on how we are to put on this armor and use it in our daily life.

In the fourth and final section, The Warfare of Prayer, Jeremiah shows us how to fight our true enemy, Satan and his cohorts, instead of each other. You will learn how prayer, the Bible and diligence are all intertwined in spiritual warfare!

[Note: This book was provided free of charge by BookLook/Thomas Nelson Publishers in exchange for an honest review.]

Late Sabbath morning, when I finished reading the previous book from the publisher, I found that there were no additional books available for me to request in hard copy, so I requested this book as an e-book. The book was an easy one to request and an easy one to appreciate as well. If you have an interest in spiritual warfare and demonology, this book will read like a basic primer on the biblical views of these subjects, a quick and handy reference for future re-reading. As someone who thinks and reads more than my fair share about demonology [1], without it being a personal obsession, I found this book to sit on a fine balance between showing interest in the subject and not being too extreme about it. That is a balance that ought to appeal to many of the readers who find this book and its subject matter of interest.

The contents and structure of this book are worthy of mention. The book itself is labeled as an answer book, and this is an accurate title. In generations past, this book would likely have been called a catechism, because that's what it is, a series of thematically organized questions that are given brief and clear answers. The questions of the book, and their answers, are divided into several sections. The book begins by addressing the terms of engagement of spiritual war, answering the obvious questions about whether and why we are involved in spiritual war as believers against the forces of darkness. Then there are a series of questions and answers directed to understanding Satan and the demonic world. After this there comes a series of questions and answers dealing with biblical statements about our weapons in this warfare. After this comes a short section on the warfare of prayer and then a conclusion, after which the book includes a warrior's prayer, some scriptural guides to prayer and spiritual warfare, some notes on the author and other works of his, and reference notes and an index.

There are some books on this subject that are long on personal stories; this is not one of them. This is a book that sticks pretty resolutely to basic and practical questions people would have about the application of the Bible to spiritual warfare. There are some obvious caveats about what kind of reader will appreciate this book. For one, this book is very straightforward question and answer--those looking for a lot of personal stories will be very disappointed. The book has encouraging things to say, but it does not speak from the point of view of the author as, say, an exorcist giving memoirs, but rather speaks from someone giving straightforward biblical exegesis. It should go without saying that if the would-be reader does not take the biblical stories about Jesus' casting demons out of people or about biblical statements on the spiritual world with the utmost seriousness than the reader will gain very little out of the book. This book is aimed at believers in the Bible who have, perhaps understandably, only a slight degree of knowledge and more interest in the area of our warfare against the forces of spiritual darkness. Such an audience will find much to enjoy and appreciate here, and much of practical use in that area.

Dr. David Jeremiah describes spiritual warfare in simple terms: the biblical context by which we all view life’s events. For Jeremiah, spiritual warfare is an everyday reality that most of the world, including most of the believing world, altogether ignores. Apart from spiritualists and charismatics, spiritual warfare is generally discarded and ignored in favor of living the physical world. There has historically always been a careful balance between the physical and the spiritual, with the gnostics overdoing the spiritual and the Sadducees overdoing the physical. Balance must be maintained. Does Jeremiah accomplish this? Given his roots, many will not be interested in what he has to say, but it does not mean there is nothing to learn from what he shares.

Jeremiah asserts that it is HaSatan that causes difficulty in life, but one must be careful to remember that there are several factors at play, not just spiritual, including personal decision-making and consequences of living in a physical realm. Jeremiah argues that he knows the strategies of the devil, and reveals them in this work. It is a difficult mandorla to balance, with one opposite representing the evil power HaSatan has and the other opposite standing for the never-questioned victory of HaShem. In this delicate balance, believers must be aware of spiritual realities while accepting their own destiny. HaShem winning does not negate the enemy’s ability to influence and interfere with human life. That said, however, even with Job, HaSatan needed permission. After all, that is his nature - to accuse us before HaShem, so regardless of what the devil does, it bodes one well to always pursuit that which is good, pure, and holy.

This book is useful to peruse not as the war strategy that Jeremiah offers it as, but to be familiar with one particular view on spiritual warfare. Spiritual warfare is very real, but since it is mostly spiritual, humans alone cannot know all there is to know of it - only what the Bible reveals. Therefore, be aware of the content in this book, and be prepared to recognize signs in your own life, but most of all: acknowledge that whatever HaSatan throws at you, you can overcome by refocusing on Y’shua, the Prince of Peace that conquers the prince of darkness.

While the title may seem a bit sweeping in scope, this little tome actually does provide a great many answers to an often misunderstood (or under-understood) topic. While not exhaustive, if you’ve got questions about spiritual warfare, chances are you’ll find your answer here, plus dozens more to questions you never thought to ask.

Another aspect to this book I appreciated was how much of my new knowledge added illumination to the collection of biblical stories, from Genesis to Revelation, revealing them as myriad pieces of one whole story. (The Nephilim, for example, mentioned in Genesis 6, and then referred to again in Jude.) This then further whetted my interest in knowing more, so that I might live my life in Christ more effectively, with far greater perspective (which is, in itself, a superior piece of weaponry for standing firm against the enemy’s schemes).

As David Jeremiah explains in his introduction,

“The biblical context for viewing all of life’s events is called spiritual warfare — the age-old conflict between the kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of light…. The ruler of the powers of darkness, Satan, is none too happy about what God has accomplished in Christ. So Satan’s main goal is to destroy the faith of Christians by getting us to doubt God’s goodness, love, forgiveness, protection, provision, and promises. When Satan choreographs difficult circumstances in our lives, it is not just to inflict pain; it is for the purpose of destroying our trust in God.”

I also like the small size of this book, along with its pithy chapters. The size makes it easy to tuck in a tote, and its relative brevity makes it not only accessible to the lay Christian, but easy to read in bite-sized morsels. Although that’s not how I read it; once started, I had a hard time stopping.

The author, a widely respected teacher on the subject, delivers answers directly and succinctly in easily comprehended language with frequent quotes from both Scripture and renowned theological thinkers. The Spiritual Warfare Answer Book offers two main takeaways: 1) Satan’s strategies against God and His most cherished creation, humankind; and 2) the gateway to spiritual victory: once identified, how to fight the enemy and defeat Him so that we might remain faithful to God throughout life’s most challenging moments.

In this way, The Spiritual Warfare Answer Book is not only interesting, but eminently practical. Personally, having read it, I feel better equipped, more confident, and more empowered to face down the devil on a daily basis.

The Bible tells us that we have an enemy. This enemy is active, on the prowl and attempting to destroy our witness and our lives. Yet, we do not always take that battle seriously, and sometimes we don’t even recognize that we’re in a battle. How are we going to recognize the battle and see through Satan’s wiles?

That’s the point of David Jeremiah’s new book, The Spiritual Warfare Answer Book. In this book, discusses the spiritual warfare that we are in and the enemy we fight. Then, he goes through each piece of God’s armor and our prayers to help give us weapons to fight in this war.

This is a small book, really gift-sized in a nice padded hardcover. The pages are thick and glossy, and it would be a great gift for a Sunday school teacher, prayer partner or disciple. The book is formatted into small snippets with a question-and-answer format maintained throughout. It’s a quick read if you’re reading straight through, but you could linger and read one or two questions a day as part of a study of spiritual warfare or as a supplement to studying the armor of God.

I enjoyed the book, and I found a few new things and ideas to linger over. I especially liked the prayer section with Jeremiah’s personalized outline of the Lord’s prayer as a part of his answers for others. Great thoughts here and an easily readable format!

This book was very timely for me as I've been experiencing spiritual warfare. Even if you aren't going through it right now or you want to understand it better, this is a great book on the subject!

I really love how Dr. Jeremiah set this book up into sections and easy to find chapters. The Table of Contents is easy to find things but, to make it even better, he has set up a fantastic index in the back in case you're wanting to find something even more specific.

He explains why we should study spiritual warfare, what it is, and how to fight it using God's Word. He reassures us that Jesus is greater than the evil one that would like to bring us down. He gives us Scripture after Scripture to back up his teaching.

My absolute favorite thing about this book? The section on having an effective prayer life! He shares Scripture to make our prayer life more powerful, the names of God we should know while praying, respecting God as the Holy God He is, and remembering who we are in Christ. This section is already looking a bit ragged as I have referred to it over and over again.

I also love the list of Scriptures in the back on spiritual warfare and the prayer he includes for the warrior. Everything in this little book is powerful and when I read it, I feel a sense of peace that I'm not alone in fighting!

I highly recommend this book for every Christian to have! In fact, I recommend this book to everyone!

This is a good short answer resource, I would recommend it for readers who are intimidated by the topic of "spiritual warfare," and it would also be a good quick resource to come back too when you need a brief reminder on a topic. After reading I am encouraged to memorize scripture and be a better prayer warrior. It's a good reminder to read this to realize that we are as believers involved in a greater spiritual conflict.
