We Witches Three, Book One: Isle of Bones. First in a Suspenseful Paranormal Fantasy and Romance Saga- A Classic Tale of Family, Duty, Magic, and Love in a Thrilling New Supernatural World. (Demon Isle Witches the Clean Read Cut of the Series. For the Readers 18 Version Please Read Wicked Good Witches).
It’s tough being a Howard Witch. Especially when a host of devious supernatural creatures are determined to wreak havoc on your daily life making it impossible to have one. And all over a magical power source lost long ago, which every villainous supernatural being wants to find, and control.
Something the Howard Witches will not permit as long as they're around to stop them. But there are only three witches left from a once thriving family. Charlie, the eldest, a werewolf, and self-elected leader of the siblings. Michael, the middle child, an empath and death reader who’d rather leave the job to someone else. And Melinda, the youngest, who’s currently living under self-inflicted house arrest after her magical inheritance kicked in- the gift of prophetic dreams of people about to die- which she blames herself for not understanding and therefore, she’s the reason her parents are dead.
The one upside to her imprisonment, spending countless hours with vampire, William Wakefield. A family friend and protector for almost two-hundred years. He’s refined on the surface, the monster lurking cautiously underneath. His emerald eyes are something to get lost in, his icy fortitude hardening him to the world. But to Melinda, he’s a best friend and confidant.
The vampire is also the star of many a light night fantasy, and any other girl would enjoy the nightly thrill of a vampire crush invading her dreams. But not Melinda as her dreams have a tendency to come true. Although typically, they don’t include the handsome vampire she’s crushing on but rather horrifying visions of people about to die.
But she cannot stay under self-inflicted house arrest forever. And if her brothers or William get their choice in the matter, Melinda will be out of the house partying with her friends, giving her affections to a human, not a vampire, and digging into her role as a witch.
A role Charlie lives for and one Michael would rather live without. Nevertheless, when duty calls, usually from the local sheriff needing help with some tourist who’s gotten themselves into trouble, love and life screech to a stop, and duty takes over.
Such is the case when the sheriff needs help with an unsolved murder investigation; one she fears has a supernatural cause. To assist her in the case, she calls upon the skills of The Howard Witches.
However, what they learn might be more than any of them can deal with, or accept. Worse yet, they fear what this discovery will do to Melinda as it returns them all to the core of her self-imprisonment.

It took me a while to get into it, but this short book sets up the series. We meet a bunch of paranormal characters, several of which with their own plot that I'm sure will follow as the series progresses. 3,5 stars.
I wasn't sure I'd like reading this book but since it was a "clean read" I couldn't go wrong. The more I got into it the more I enjoyed the characters coming alive. The storyline wraps itself around you and pulls you in. Charlie's history played perfectly into my beliefs of the end of the book. The upcoming books should show if my theories are accurate and only whet my appetite for what comes next. Oh, no. No spoilers from me! But you'll have a few wonderful hours mulling it over in your own head.
At first it can be confusing as the POV switches between character mid paragraph and it can be hard to keep up. However, you quickly get used to the style and enjoy the story.
It's short and fun. It can be a bit cringe in places but not terribly so. It is exactly as the book cover suggests, sweet and romantic. Each of the story covers about a day so it is worth reading all them in quick succession.
Melinda Howard, a member of one of The Demon Isles founding families, faces her vampiric watcher, the guest visitor of her previous night's dreams. As she nervously finishes up the potion she'd made for the first time, the reason for his three-monthly custom, she knows failure would mean both their deaths. The masking potion should perform two important functions: the first is the daywalker ability to be safe under exposure to the sun's rays; and the second, a glamour to alter his look so that people would not realise an ageless vampire walks among them. Both are necessary to keep his identity hidden and to walk freely under the sun; its needed to be taken every three months. She's a wicked good witch, but the change in her behaviour didn't escape William's sensitive hearing.
As her heart raced the sound reached across the room to heighten his desire for her blood. A reaction Melinda had not experienced before, having never previously encountered him in her dreams. A problem he no longer was forced to deal with being accentuated by the blood empty stomach necessary for the potion to work. Both parties are chagrined by their reactions during this exchange. For Melinda it was the memory of her previous night's steamy dreams in which he starred. For William, it came with his awareness of the outward reactions to her proximity and the delicious aroma of her blood. A reaction he usually had no trouble containing, after the four-hundred years he'd had to control it.
The twenty-one year old former virgin had opted to choose someone with little meaning to give that part of herself to, only so as to be rid of the stigma that classification brought at her age. Admittedly, it was a poor choice, his assignation of the perception that she was frumpy firmly kicking him, and her, to the curb. Had she noted as much prior to the deed she could've made her exit before the damaging blow to her ego. As it was, the slight 'pooch' to her stomach that evening was only because he'd not ceased talking over dinner, forcing her to eat too much so she'd have something to do. In hindsight, she not only still fealt as though she were still a virgin, she also no longer fealt any stigma that was attached to the label for someone her age. Both amounting to a terrible mistake. The only saving grace was that she'd not let him in on that little piece of knowledge, he'd certainly not earnt the privilege.
Despite her family's long history in The Demon Isles they had never found the source of it's magical power and signature. Four years ago her parents had gone missing while on another of the hunting missions to find it. This was what lead to William's watcher/guardian role as he'd been her parents' longest standing friend. Strictly speaking there was no need for a guardian, as her oldest brother Charlie would have legally been able to keep them together, had the issue arose. But it was a matter of honour, which strongly ruled William's endeavours. She and her two older brothers were tasked with protection of the Isles, and with the slow reduction in her panic attacks Melinda was now getting out on patrol. The prophetic dreams that began plaguing her four years ago have been a significant debt to her health, and the core of why many locals look upon her as a freak.
Like Charlie they both accepted their duty and purposeful lives on the Isles. But Michael could not see a future where he'd never sought out other potential lifestyles for himself first. It was an increasingly difficult gap between him and his family. Melinda sympathised where he was coming from, but still saw there was no choice to leave their lives behind, to make new purposes for themselves. Charlie did to an extent, but it had become a wall of escalating arguments between them. If it weren't for Emily, Melinda's best friend, he'd be long gone; he'd adored her for the last several years. If he got together with her, Michael knew he'd never be able to leave. Despite her obvious attraction to him, Emily is the type who is happiest when they are making others happy. She would never be the one to initiate, she knew well his desires to leave, but could not shirk her own responsibilities to her father. They both obviously felt too strongly for one another to start something they couldn't see through until it's proper end. Instead, they just muddled on, never revealing or acting on the unspoken truths of their mutual attraction.
The Howard family and friends are anything but normal, but that's what people living and traveling to The Demon Isles have come there expecting. The children are all witches and each have their gift and curse. Born to a strong bloodline from their father and a human one from their mother, they have a heritage to uphold. Despite varying lengths of time in their resistance they've buried their blatant skeletons and have chosen to walk the path. Their mother's bomes are yet to be found, but her spirit is at rest. Their father is missing, and his spirit is bound in unrest. The live in guardian is a four centuries old vampire and each of the new adult siblings has a pursuer for their heart, how many are genuine is yet to be determined. The locals suspect, and some know, there's things that go bump in the night, amd some are even of them. Not all visitors or residents are good for The Isles population, but at least there's those that are made to fight them.
A wonderful find and captivating read, the length of the plot is just about perfect. Somewhere in between short and overdone, its the kind of read you can get much from without necessarily requiring many hours free to make the most of it. In each their own way the siblings struggled to find a peace that'd permit the resolution to follow the road before them. This first of the series has set the stage exceptionally well, and drummed up the interest for the serial additions to come. Don't be put off by any preconceptions that you'll be reading forever in order to get through the already many planned new books, as even though they'll need to be read in order, they a complete story within each topic. Good clean fun, or wicked good witches is a true to word moniker. Magic, supernatural, action, suspense and intrigue have gone into tye cauldron and several spells have come from it. The Isle of Bones is the first potion from the mix, and the aptly named title leads to where the story goes. Once you've read this outstanding opener, then you'll know the function of the title, and therefore where each new book will go. Isle of Wolves is next, and Isle of Bones contains the basic template for what the next plot will be like. You can't ask for much more than that.
Witches, vampires, werewolves and guardians with a romantic theme intertwined all makes for a great story with more battles foretold, probably not a series to read at bedtime
What a great set up book for a series! Plenty of information on characters and location, enough to tickle the fancy. I will definitely have to follow this story. Thanks for this lovely beginning.
Pretty good book! It was a quick read, but pulled me in enough that I want to read more. I’ll check out the next in the series. Not really my favorite genre, but it has me wanting to see what happens. Give it a try!
I mean, I read this during a meeting so I wasn't expecting much, and that exactly what I got. This book is the equivalent to watching a quirky show about a magical town, and I mean, that's not necessarily bad, it's just that there's barely any plot to it.
It was just okay for me. Not Humphrey Quinn's best, but hopefully the next will be better. For my clean readers: mild language, mild violence, and adult romance, but not overly graphic.
This book is very interesting and keeps you reading until the end. Supernatural and regular people interact throughout the story. The only thing I didn't like was the end. It was very unexpected.
Wow This is a great book. 3 witches 1of them is also a wolf an d there guardian is a vampire. Who can go out in the day. The things they get in to. While they try to find out hat happen to there parents and what where the power sources is. But all the this along the way I laught so hard I cried. If you want to find out what happens. Grap your copy and your favorite drink and turn the world off. I received a free copy for an honest review.
Very much an enjoyable read. The witches are slowly revealed in all their glory. Some locals know them, most do not. They have a role to play on the island which we realize is bigger than at first suggested. Three siblings, yet certainly all different with their own strengths. They need to call on these strengths to save themselves, their friends and this island that is the home of the Howards for a very long time.
This novel is very much an introduction into a much larger story arc. So glad I already have the second one. Many questions were introduced, and few were answered. It wasn't a unpleasant cliff hanger though. It looks like this series is well laid out. Good read so far.
A family of witches live on an island and protect the inhabitants from evil forces. They each have different powers and live with a vampire who helped them out when their parents disappeared.
I enjoyed the writing and where the story line is taking us. The author does a good job of setting the scene in your head and for me using my imagination is a huge part of a book. I am glad there are many more books in this series.
An entertaining and titillating paranormal mystery full of intreage and humor as well. The caracters are vibrant and challenging in so many ways. I didn't put it asside until I'd finished reading it. Aquier a copy today so you yourself can enjoy reading it as much as I have. 🤔🙄😏😊Kat
