ARC provided for honest review…
AUTHOR: Maxine Keith
Genre: contemporary romance (friends to lovers)
Type: Book ONE of series: Wrong turn right ( Ace’s Wild)
POV: Third person
RATING: 4 stars.💥💥💥💥
:
…………………
The book starts with Jez, a good obedient girl, lives her life through her family’s approval, who is sick and had to go for therapy. She works at her family shop with her brother Jordy and his friends. Jordy appears to be a very protective brother who shields her sister from every bad things. This story depicts such a great sibling dynamics. Jez depicts a very self conscious girl who didn’t want to believe that she deserved good things in life.

“You know, I just want to be your friend.”
She took in a shuttered breath. The first tear fell.
“Just…I’ll be there when you need me”.

Boone is a character with a mysterious side who develops a friendship with Jez. Together they were awesome and I love their banter and spark. Can Jez overcomes her insecurities and accept Boone? Can their newly formed bond withstand the trouble their secrets will bring?

“You’d really rather people think you have a drinking or drug problem then know the truth”? He quipped.
“If it keeps them from looking at me with those pity eyes, absolutely. I’d rather be hated than pitied.”

This story will appeal to readers who enjoy friends to lover trope. Also for people who have restrictions at home and don’t feel free to have fun…this book is for you.

This story turned out of be quite surprising, in a good way. I was expecting it to be a run off the mill romance novel but it was so much more than that. On the surface, it seems like a typical boy meets girl story but as you read more and more of it, you keep uncovering different layers.

One thing that I found really interesting about this book was the depiction of two sides of the protagonist: almost like alter egos. The story runs briskly and is engaging. You end up relating to the flawed main character and her insecurities. It makes her so much more real to the reader.

Another thing that I really liked about the story was that it doesn’t only focus on the romantic relationship bit but probes into the siblings dynamic as well. It also touched upon platonic opposite sex friendships at times which is refreshing. Overall, it was an enjoyable read and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series to see how the story progresses further.

This book has a lot of potential. The storyline is strong and the characters are well developed, however, it didn't really work for me. I found myself skimming a few paragraphs and thinking "get to the point". It just didn't flow for me. I think maybe with more editing it has the potential to be an amazing book.

Sorry, but I don't recommend this book. I do praise the author for following her dreams and telling us a story.

Jezebel has always been hiding a part of her, so much so that secrets have become apart of who she is. You could almost say she had two halfs to her, one the good perfect daughter and sister and then the speed junkie street racer. But when Boone Kingston starts to take interest in Bels, it seems like she is just unable to keep from sharing her secrets with the charming Boone.

••

This novel was so captivating, that you could not help but be drawn in right from the start. The thing that I found the most gripping was how realistic the entire story was, mind you this was one that really hit note on a lot of heartbreaking and hard truths. But in saying this I loved that Jezebel persevered throughout, and that Boone added into this making her that much more stronger. I loved that even through all of what she had to deal with Jezebel was a strong female that held her own. As for Boone, well he quietly stole my heart.

••

The supporting characters were all stand out and played such an integral role in bring this story to life, I about loved Skye. As for Jordy I'm still on the fence really. The ending was going so perfectly except for the very very end where Keith throws a major spanner into the works, I really hate cliffhangers! Now I really NEED to know how Jez and Boones story ends!

••

I have to give Maxine Keith and her team a huge thank you for the opportunity to read and give my honest review this ARC. I not only loved the writing style in the novel but it had a strong and gripping plot. I highly recommend getting your hands on a copy of Wrong Things Right - Ace's Wild, you will be taken on a beautiful emotional journey. Keep those tissues handy!

I'm rating this book 3 stars because I enjoyed the character development from both Jez and Boone and how their relationship thrives even with 'rule number 3'🙄. I think there is a solid storyline with great aspects and detail in her treatment and during her later activities. My favourite character is Jordy as he is both the protective sibling and seems quite threatening, it is clear he is a sweetheart who just cares for his sister alot! However I am only rating it 3 stars as I think the storyline can be quite jumpy in 2 sections where it's almost as if certain major factors have been ignored. Also some conversations and scenes could be edited further for a smoother flow between characters. I did enjoy reading this book but with some further editing there would be a higher review🤞❤

Boys, cars, secrets, dangerous attraction… The perfect combination for binge-worthy reading (in my humble opinion ;)).

Trigger warning: this book contains some themes of mental health.

Now, when I started reading this book, I was having the beginning of a reading slump which left me anxious to immerse in this story. However, this book grabbed my attention from the very beginning. Romance, cars, mysterious illness, secrets. I am not ashamed to say that I couldn’t put the book (my kindle ;)) down for the entire day.

In the beginning, Jez seems to suffer from the normal pains of a young adult (body image, relationships, etc.). Together with the age description of a debilitating condition makes the reader feel almost pity for her if not acceptance.

Must admit that there’s the typical girl is in trouble, mysterious handsome boy rescues her. It may be tedious or cringe for some but it worked for me. Not to overly dramatised and boringly straight forward. If you are not interested in some level of materialistic importance given to physical beauty, this book probably will not be for you. But the genre of this book would not be a good choice if you were of this opinion.

The delay in the discovery of a mysterious illness made me want to continue reading it until I got my answers. Some may find it annoying (the author says as much is herself in the preface) and it is completely understandable.

I loved the overprotective older brothers-younger sister develops right from the beginning. It is a quite common theme in books but it never gets old and enviable (though it could be criticised as being male chauvinism). It is cute, funny and does the job.

What’s more, another of my weak points for this book is the presence of cars and races. I cannot refuse bad boys and cars and I am happy to say that this book did not disappoint in the least.

Mental health surrounds the plot enough to merit a trigger warning but does not go too deep into it. It’s more like a character trait than anything else. (Depth of some topics development is also common for this genre.) Whether it is a positive or a negative fact, it’s up for each reader to decide.

Nonetheless, the development of several scenes important to the plot itself that was quite outshined by details that surround it. (I am being intentionally vague as to not spoil the story.) There’s also the introduction of new characters at crucial times and do not have enough relevance to justify their presence, though none is regrettable.

It seems that most of the topics will develop further in the following books. This book definitely ends in a cliff-hanger. Personally, I was pleasantly surprised and satisfied. I cannot wait to read what Jez has up the road for herself.

This book was very different from my usual. It's written in third person, with it being told from (basically) Jez's perspective if that makes sense.
The things I liked about this book:
-It was consistent.
-The humor
-Relatable characters

Things I didn't enjoy:
-Third person (I felt this story probably would've been better off in first person, I also have a hard time connecting with third pov)
-How the guys she grew up with (her brother included) put her down. Then would say that someone more her type would come along and she couldn't get the "hottie" because she wasn't his type (she was overweight).

I wish Jez would've stood up for herself more, BUT I liked that the author made her relatable in the sense of self doubt and self value, her body issues. I wasn't a huge fan how the MC, Boone, told her that she couldn't lie to him, but there were going to be times he couldn't tell her what was going on. NO SIS, if you have to be 100% honest with him, HE NEEDS THE SAME TO YOU.
The steamy scenes were decent. Not something to rave about.

Overall, four stars to this book.

The Wrong Things Right: Ace’s Wild by Maxine Keith

⭐⭐🌟

‘He smiled uncomfortably. “I brought you home once before.”

“And you remembered?”

“Yep. For some reason, I remember things that are linked with you.” He seemed surprised to admit it.

“Like what?” She was so confused and tired.

“You look tired. Why don’t you rest, Jez? He stood up and moved a pillow under her head.

“Tell me something you know about me.” She said sleepily.

He sighed and pulled the blanket off the back of the sofa. Covering her up with it, he said softly, “I know that you think people don’t see you. But I do.”’

I had such a hard time deciding what to rate this story. I fluctuated between giving it a two star or a three star, so I settled on a two point five. Before I give my reasons for the low review, I just want to say that each and every book is unique to every single person reading it. Just because I couldn’t connect with this particular story, does not mean that many other readers will be the same. This book could be someone’s next favourite.

For me this book had a multitude of issues. As it was an advanced review copy, I rarely take spelling and punctuation into consideration, as it may not have gone to an editor yet, so we're setting that aside. This story started out fairly well. It was reading like any other quintessential New Adult romance for the first couple of chapters, but as we delved further into the story and the array of characters, it started to meander, make less sense, before losing its way entirely. The men in the story were awful. Misogynistic, overbearing, one dimensional and bordering on abusive with how they talked, treated and suffocated the heroine. Her brother, the worst of them all.

Whether it was a product of such stifling male behaviour or whether it was simply poor writing in rounding out of Jez's personality, the heroine was too immature and superficial for me. How she talked, thought, reacted and cried incessantly, made me lose interest in her by the time the first half of the book was over. The other thing that was a hindrance was the fact that she had a plethora of different names that she went by. Bels, Jezebel, Jez, Ace, Princess and Pickle. I had to keep checking it was the same person. There was also the confusion of when Jez donned her ‘Ace’ persona and somehow became this wild, reckless, unrecognizable persona, who also talked and thought about herself as a separate entity, which just came across as bizarre and frankly bordering on a mental health issue. Which is precisely where I thought the story was going. But I was very wrong.

The hero was harder to peg again. I never really understood him, his motives or his actions toward Jez. It was like he showed up, started working for her brother and within a very short space of time he was declaring his eternal love to Jez with very little to connect the pair to begin with.

I just found everything in this book to be a little juvenile. The plot, the characters and even the dialogue. A lot of it seemed out of sync, rushed and incredibly unrealistic. Unfortunately there wasn’t much to redeem the book for me.

🏁🏁 ARC BOOK REVIEW 🏁🏁

Title: Wrong Things Right: Ace's Wild
Author: Maxine Keith @maxine_keith_
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Friends to Lovers
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

I really enjoyed this novel, probably even more so because I love cars and racing. I'm also a sucker for sexy men who know their way around an engine, and this book is completely full of them. 😍😍

On the surface, this novel seems like a typical friends to lovers romance, but there is so much complexity happening with Jez's character. Maxine does a great job of putting you in Jez's frame of mind and really making you feel like you're experiencing her struggles with her. The duality of Jez's character becoming Bel/Ace is also very interesting, especially with how she develops her persona in conjunction with her relationship with Boone.

"You'd really rather people think you have a drinking or drug problem than know the truth?" He quipped.
"If it keeps them from looking at me with those pity me eyes, absolutely. I'd rather be hated than pitied."

"Tell me something you know about me." She said sleepily.
He sighed and pulled the blanket off the back of the sofa. Covering her up with it, he said softly, "I know that you think people don't see you, but I do."

When she was out there on the strip of asphalt she wasn't ugly or fat, she wasn't someone's little sister. Out there, she was Bel. Bel of the ball, someone had called her once. And she really liked being that girl.

As he traced her lips and then bit on them gently, her knees grew weak. Feeling her weaken in his arms, he pulled away. "Are you alright?" He asked quickly, troubled eyes looking into hers.
She smiled with a blush, and looked down. " Oh yes, I'm great." She bit her lip and looked up at him from under her dark lashes.
"Don't look at me like that." He growled.
It was her turn to be troubled. "Why?"
"Because it makes me want to do things to you that your dad and brother would kill me for."

"Ace, when I stopped you, it wasn't because I wanted to. It's because I didn't want to." He looked deep into her eyes. "I made a promise to a lot of people, Ace. But mostly I promised myself I wasn't going to f**k this up. We're going to take this slow." "I don't do well with slow." She responded. "Then I'll be the brakes. You steer and I'll brake." "I don't know how..." "Yes, Ace. You drive and I'll make sure that we don't crash." Tears swelled in her eyes again. "And what happens when we do?" "We won't." "But..." He took her chin in her hand. "We're not going to crash. But if, and that's a big if, we do, I'll be right there pulling you out, I'm not running."

Excuse me while I just swoon over Boone... 😍😍🤤🤤

Ace's Wild is book 1 in the Wrong Things Right series, and I can't wait to see what happens in book 2, Losing Hand.

SYNOPSIS - Jezebel, (or Jez, Bels, Ace, Pickle, Baby Girl, Princess - whatever you want to call her) is portrayed as a college going girl, working in their family shop along with her brother Jordy and Dad and brother's friends Ty and OB, being overprotected by them and thus being a sweetheart and a pulp kiddo to each. But, according to the blurb of the book, she's not quite a good girl as she is known to be. She has secrets to keep. She suffers from body shame and self doubt as Jez, but is one hell of a confident adult as Ace or Bels. The violation of Rule 3 with Boone, a new hired employee in their shop changes things for Jez and she begins to re-discover her. Will they reach at the finishing point is all we seek to find in this book.

REVIEW - I am not much into contemporary romance but thought of giving this one a shot. This book talks about racing and cars - which is clearly not my area, yet it was kinda a fresh and happy read.

✔ A lovely brother-sister bond.
✔ Lovely opposite sex friendships.
✔ Beautiful character developments, specially of Boone and Jez.
✔ Easy, yet catchy English.

❌ Jumped plots too often.
❌ Felt like some plots could be described in a more precise way.
❌ Too many 'Jez goes to bed and tears fill her eyes' plots.
❌ The book could have been edited in a better way as I came through some gramatical and spelling errors.

I think Wrong Things Right: Ace's Wild has so much potential, to be a great story. It needs a bit more tweaking first. The first couple of chapters drew me in then the flow stopped, and I ended up skipping pages/chapters. It was the characters, that I had a problem with, Jezabel (Ace) acted so immature, and she kept going on and on about the same issue. She let the guys run all over her, and she hides her true self from them. Her brother Tyler is one overbearing jerk, and his friends are just a tad better than him in regards to Jezabel.
With that being said just because this book didn't work for me, you might like it. Every reader has a different opinion.

This book was super different then books I’ve been recently reading and I’m totally happy with it. This story centers around Jezebel and Boone and wow.

From the start this book makes you feel all the feels and ropes you in. I finished the book super quickly!! It’s like the a romance in the Fast and a furious, ugh so good!

Jez is a super strong girl and her selflessness shows so much throughout this story — even when she’s hurting she struggles to put herself before any of her ‘brothers’ despite their protests. Her journey is rough but when Boone enters into her life, nothing is the same. Because of her family she has to separate her lives and hides in secret, not letting anyone in until Boone manages to squeeze his way in.

I loved Boone, he was sweet and caring and so good to Jez. He saw her for who she truly is, something she only ever wanted. He didn’t pity her or treat her like glass house, but truly respected her. He brings out what she has been hiding from and brings out so many qualities she buried so deep.

And the racing was amazing! Between the surfing and the racing there was nonstop action. This book was a good read and I’m excited to see where Keith takes it in the next two parts, WTR Straight Shot and WTR Losing Hand!
