Sapphira: Unveiled

Rate this book
We meet Sapphira in Acts 5 during the greatest tragedy of her life and we witness her dramatic death. I have sought to frame a plausible story around her life. Characters representing her parents and friends have been introduced. I’ve attempted to portray her husband, Ananias, and the circumstances leading to their marriage. They had backgrounds that led them to this awful moment. What were they like? What types of enterprises occupied Ananias’ time? What brought them into the early church in Jerusalem? What brought about the devastating decision to withhold money from the sale of a property? There are so many questions surrounding their lives. For me the biggest question, after their back story, is why there is a gap of three hours between Ananias’ appearance before the church leaders and Sapphira’s appearance. What was she doing during those three hours? Why did she not go with her husband? Troubling and haunting questions. The resulting story is my vision of the events that made up their lives and led them to their tragic deaths.
