So I’ve read marvel comics before, and I’ve read some of Nat’s comics before, but I’ve never kept track of the ones I’ve read. I’ve now made it my mission to read every marvel comic that includes winterwidow (or almost every marvel comic bc they might be in little snippets of long runs n stuff. Just the mainstream black widow, winter soldier, captain america & avengers stuff basically lol) bc I adore them and I want to read their full story through the comics. So I’m starting here and working my way up.

I don’t remember ever reading this comic run, and this first issue was a little lackluster and albeit confusing. The pacing was weird, and I wasn’t a huge fan of the art style, especially Bucky’s character design. However, I’m really intrigued to read more about Natasha’s entry into the red room (which is one of my favorite parts about Natasha both in the mcu and in the 616 comic runs that I’ve read), and Wolverine was an interesting addition to this?? I definitely wasn’t expecting that, and now I’m even more intrigued to pick up some X-Men stuff bc the X-Men are awesome. Anyway, pretty mediocre, but regardless, I’m still gonna finish this run.

you sayin we're brothers, taras?
im not saying a thing. natalia when youve completed the exercise come and have tea with comrade logan and i."

"my superiors offer you both this chemical in exchange for your renewed loyalty. it will heal him ans increase your life spans. but there is an extremely limited supply, comrades."

1 star on a black widow comic is sad but the hideous art style made it unsalvageable
classic black widow story but weak writing

I just watched the movie and i just wanted to read more about her character, also this is the first comic about her that i read
I felt it was a little all over the place, the pace was too fast for me, I was genuinely confuse about stalin tho and also about wolverine (this one more bc sometimes I forget xmen are also part of this universe) but i just wanted to know where the movies took inspiration from cus i know for a fact it was not from this comic

I wish I could say I loved this book, as I'm a huge fan of Black Widow - her cunning, her mythological level of prowess as a spy and fighter, and not least of which her red hair. Somehow though the book's story felt cheapened, rushed by the constant revolving door of old characters and conflicts that were instantly resolved with no real dilemma or challenge. It felt like we were just drifting along a play-by-play without learning anything new about the woman (even if we were supposedly seeing a new angle on all the events of BW's life over the years).
