They Must Be Stopped: Why We Must Defeat Radical Islam and How We Can Do It

Rate this book
They Must Be Stopped is New York Times bestselling author Brigitte Gabriel's warning to the We can no longer ignore the growth of radical Islam--we must act soon, and powerfully. Gabriel challenges our western and politically-correct notions about Islam, demonstrating why radical Islam is so deadly and how we can halt its progress.

Brigitte Gabriel speaks her

*Fundamentalist Islam is a religion rooted in 7th century teachings that are fundamentally opposed to democracy and equality.

*Radical Islamists are utterly contemptuous of all "infidels" (non-Muslims) and regard them as enemies worthy of death.

*Madrassas in America are increasing in number, and they are just one part of a growing radical Islamic army on US soil.

*Radical Islam exploits the US legal system and America's protection of religion to spread its hatred for western values.

*America must organize a unified voice that says "enough" to political correctness, and demands that government officials and elected representatives do whatever is necessary to protect us.

Brigitte Gabriel has fearlessly faced down critics, death threats, and political correctness, and is one of the most sought after terrorism experts in the world. They Must Be Stopped is her clarion call to action. Gabriel thoroughly addresses the historical and religious basis of radical Islam, its frightening encroachment into societies around the world, and its abuses of democracy in the name of religion.

A notable Muslim thinker Jamal al-Din al-Afghani said once: “The Christian religion is based on making peace, and kindness prevails in everything…whereas Islam is based on an aspiration to victory, might, conquest and boldness.”
Reading this book you see that this can't be more true. Gabriel's work is a deep analysis of the faith that in 1,400 years of its rule and jihad has killed 270 million people around the globe. I was deeply shocked and moved reading about the danger of radicalism. From this book you can learn three important things:

1. Islam is definitely not a religion of peace and it's actually ISIS and other terrorist organisations that got it right, not moderate Muslims who usually didn't even read the Koran (which my experiences actually confirm). Check yourself - the Koran 2:191, 4:56, 5:33, 8:12, 8:39, 8:59, 8:65, 9:5, 9:14, 9:29, 9:123, 47:4.

"Most moderate Muslims do not know the words of the Koran and are not religious enough to read the Hadith and the Sira, which have even worse commandments regarding declaring war on the infidels and killing them. Whenever moderates and radicals get into a debate about Islam, radicals always win because they back their statements with “facts” from the holy book while nonreligious Muslims cannot."

2. The Western world should immediately stop trying to be politically correct. Otherwise we're doomed. As Gabriel writes "Westerners are being taken for a ride in the name of tolerance, understanding, and multiculturalism."

3. The fact that majority of Muslims are peaceful and kind, doesn't really mean anything in a global scale.

"Even though the majority of Muslims are peaceful, law-abiding citizens who do not wish to fight or declare jihad on their neighbors and colleagues, such moderates are irrelevant in the war we are fighting. Most Germans were moderate as well. Their moderation did not stop the Nazis from killing 14 million people in concentration camps and costing the world 60 million lives. Most Russians were peaceful as well. However, Russian Communists cost the world 20 million lives. The same goes for most Japanese prior to World War II. Yet Japan was responsible for the killing of 12 million Chinese. The moderate majority was irrelevant."

The Westerners' problem is that we project our understanding of certain notions (peace, freedom etc.) onto Islam not realising that Muslims understand them in a different way (eg. freedom is not "the ability of individuals to make decisions affecting their lives in every way", it's rather "the freedom from foreign powers that have ruled the Islamic world in modern times.").
As we're more or less familiar with Christianity, we treat Islam likewise. Unfortunately we fail to notice, that Islam goes far beyond what we understand by a "religion". The religion that puts your family's "honour" above the well-being of its members, is more than a religion - it's a tool for social and political abuse. Gabriel quotes many examples thereof, such as a situation when a woman couldn't be helped medically because the only anaesthesiologist was male and her husband didn't want him to look at her, or a fire incident in Girls' Intermediate School No. 31 in Mecca, where girls weren't allowed out of the burning building because they weren't fully covered.

My dear friend, read that book and wake up.

I wish you could give a half of star but unfortunately you can not. Anyway I would have given this book 4 and a half stars had I been able to but 5 stars will do fine. Ms. Gabriel does a phenomenal job in educating the reader on terrorism, the history of Islam, and the meaning of Jihad. She also does a great job in explaining how we as people are lacking in doing anything in preventing these people from winning this battle.
Now the very first review on here states that she is opposed to the rights this country bestows on these jihadists. No where in the book other then one statement where she says we should not allow Terrorists and those who support it to be allowed to promote this behavior in our country. Now I don't agree fully with this statement because our fore fathers created this country on the premise people would be able to speak their minds. If you do this to one group then it would have to apply for any group whether it is terrorists, or militia groups in our country. This is an infringement of the freedom of speech and I am not for that. Though if those statements lead to a incident and they are proven connect to a terrorist event then yes by all means arrest them and do what must be done.
That was the one and only thing I disagreed with Ms. Gabriel on. Short of that the book goes into great detail and is very compelling to read. I agree with 99 percent of what her plans are to handle the situation and how we the people must do in order to make things get done. Lets face it our government is a push over for political correctness.
I believe this book is a must read for those concerned with our nations path.

The title pretty much says it all. The book contains many examples of the dangers of radical Islam, and cautions us not to become too complacent regarding the clearly stated intentions of radical Muslims. The author is a Lebanonese Christian who has experienced the negative side of radical Islam, and her point of view reflects that. To read about how Islam is a tolerant and peaceful religion, you'll have to find another book. That's not the viewpoint of Brigitte Gabriel.

Ugh. I am currently reading this b/c a fellow volunteer thought I needed to know the "truth" about Islam. Trying to maintain an open mind, but this seems to be Islamophobia at its very worst. Going to finish it up and do a little research of my own.

Wait a minute.... Muslim are called terrorist because of what happened in Boston and because of what happened in the 11 September ???? But when a man killed 20 INNOCENT KIDS In Connecticut that not a terrorist when israel are killing INNOCENT palestian that is not terrorist you think you know everything about Islam by looking the way Muslim acts BUT NOBODY is perfect . Muslims are not perfect Islam is Just discover Islam learn about the prophet then write a book

To kill a person under some unjust pretexts is such a great and terrible sin before Allah that to kill one person is like to kill the whole mankind.
Our Lord regards unjust killing like that and says the following in the Quran:
"whoever slays a soul, unless it be for manslaughter or for mischief in the land, it is as though he slew all men; and whoever keeps it alive, it is as though he kept alive all men" (al-Maeda/The Food, 32)

I read this for a book club. This has a very strong title, that would keep me away in most cases. But I must say it was a very intriguing book. Both fact based and first hand accounts. I would recommend reading it

They Must Be Stopped is an account of the problem with the rising threat of Islam after its defeat 300 years ago. Brigitte covered every area of this dangerous cult through history, politics and various accounts of how this disease is manifesting itself. It got a little bit preachy about her not for profit organisation toward the end but nonetheless a must read to be informed and get involved to stop islamisation of the rest of the civilized world.

This book was given to me as a gift. It is not easy to assess because there are a number of good thoughts in this book but there are a few issues. I almost hate to rate this book because it is a no-win scenario. Either way one rates the book is going to anger someone. It is a book that has a provocative edge which either startles or enrages the reader. There are a lot of factors that need to be taken into account. What she has to say has a lot of merit to it and her background gives her a unique perspective that is both an asset and a liability. In this review I hope to point out some of the positive aspects of the work and some of the more questionable aspects as well.

First, I think that one must keep in mind that Brigitte Gabriel has had her own journey with radical Islam and this has colored her perception of the religion. A clear reading of the book indicates that Gabriel is addressing Islam in its most radical form. She suggests that this is not just as few rogue Muslims that are at work, but a much larger, broader network of believers who are all united around a common goal. Radical Islam as we have seen over the last decade is dangerous to society and will stop at nothing short of global domination. She suggests that there is more that is going on in America among Muslims than many Americans would like to admit.

Brigitte reminds the reader that Christianity and Judaism have both undergone serious periods of reformation. That does not mean that there are no radicals among these religious groups. What it means is that there has been a reforming period that has moved these religions away from the Medieval world and into the enlightenment. She suggests that Islam is not moving along that same line and it has become stagnant. She calls on moderate Muslims to begin taking the lead in updating Islamic values. She chides Moderates because she believes that by and large they are not doing what is necessary to reshape the direction of the faith. She urges Christians to recognize that there are many countries in the world where Christians are persecuted under Islamic regimes. She not only spurs them to action but reminds them that this kind of thing is only a hair away when we lay down our rights in the name of tolerance.

Her reflection on the historical part of Islam would no doubt incense Muslims. There is a movement in Islam to see the Prophet in a less violent manner. Historically, it seems that Muhammad's initial reaction to Christians and Jews was one of acceptance and a call to submit. When both parties seem to balk there was a strain that led to a break with the way Christians and Jews interacted with Muslims. The most violent sections of the Quran that advocate ugly behavior seem to come from the latter part of his life. Since there is a doctrine of abrogation, if that is true then since Muhammad spoke these last, it means that these messages would be the current doctrine for Islamic believers. Of course, not all Muslims see it that way and this no small source of controversy. The fact is that this is the 21st century and this kind of violence is shameful and need not be acted out by any religion.

On the negative side of things I think that there is a tone of bitterness that is detectable. While I believe that in her mind she has radicals targeted, she in fact seems to confuse radicals with all Muslims sometimes which is simply not correct. At times this comes across clear she is speaking of radicals while other times it seems that she has lumped all the Muslims together. While it is important that we consider that Muslims have been aggressors historically,it is also important that we do not let the west off the hook. I love my country and I believe that it has done great things for others but I also believe it has done reprehensible things as well. She tends to glorify the west at times and vilify the east. There are Muslims who do not condone this behavior. She lacked an objectivity interacting with Islamic sources which does not make her incredulous, but it does show a strong agenda. Some of the sources that she used were also questionable and I was not sure whether these sources should be accepted. Newspaper articles are a genuine source but they are blatantly biased as well. Not all Muslims are bad, not all Muslims support terrorism, and not all Muslims approve of radical ideology. However, she makes a great point by stating that these Muslims need to reform their own religion.

With this in mind there is some excellent food for the thought. She is very passionate about putting an end to the catastrophes that occur in the name of Allah. She is not going to make many friends doing this but it is necessary that someone raise awareness. Americans walk on eggshells attempting to not offend others in order to atone for the sins of our history. However, Muslims living in this country need to realize that we will never accept Sharia law, we have a right to free speech and to criticize our government as well as the religions that make up our country. Lastly, Muslims need to realize that when they become U.S. citizens or they come here to live that we will welcome them with open arms but they need to learn to adapt to the existing culture in America. Gabriel is calling for a Muslim Martin Luther to purge the religion. In fact, her ideas are not far from Reza Aslan who sympathetically called for the reform and cleansing of Islam.

This book is worth reading and there is a growing need for concern. Her assessment of school programs that have a heavy Islamic agenda is accurate. Not too long ago I saw a program that aggressively pushed Islam and ended with taking the students to a mosque to pray for Allah. If this were a Christian teacher he would be fired. There are a number of situations like that going on all around us. We need to wake up and be vigilant. We need to support moderates who want to update the face of the religion in the 21st century. We need to clearly assert the bill of rights before our passivity brings about the loss of many such rights. We should not hate others, nor should we demonize the whole for the part. We should also recognize that with all its faults America is a great nation that is espoused to key principles that should never be undone. Overall, I would say that the main idea of this book is good and the message should be taken to heart.

Author Brigitte Gabriel is Lebanese Christian who spent seven years of the war living in a bomb shelter. She has seen most of her friends and family killed of by what she calls “radical Muslims” In her second book Ms. Gabriel write to warn us that the Islamic fundamentalist are on their way over here and they plan on taking over. She says that they have no respect for our way of life and that they are using freedom of expression, political correctitude, and technology as means for taking us over. She claims that violence against those who do not believe in Islam. She pulls out several quotes to verify her point. Miss. Gabriel then goes on to discuss the five pillars of Islam and some of their early history. To sum it up she says that Islam spread by the sword and that Muslim make temporary treaties only to break them when it suits there purpose. Islam according to her spread al the way to China and North Africa and that Muslim armies made inroads into Europe. The Muslim occupation was pushed back only during the Industrial Age when the West had superior technology. She documents several schools that open up on US soil that preach Jihad and discrimination against those who do not practice Islam. Some of these schools are funded by American Tax payer. These schools also have connections to Hamas, CAIR and the Holy Land foundation. Several groups like the Muslim Brotherhood have military training camps in US soil. At the end of the book she outline a plan to combat the spread of Islamic Fundamentalism. Of course that entail joining her organization act.

I do find the book to be a bit on the Islam phobic side and it focuses only on a minority of the population. This book makes it seem like most Muslim are violent people. Yet Chapter 3 clearly states that a minority of Muslim drink their religion straight. Meaning that they follow it literally. Usually religious groups when they come here to America want accommodations. Ms. Gabriel says that Muslim taxi drivers are refusing to service people carrying alcohol and those having dogs. Airport according to her are setting up wash basis for Muslim prayer. Some companies have prayer rooms to accommodate Muslims but no such thing for Christians and Jews. Well I have not seen this but the strength of America lies in accepting new immigrants.

They Must Be Stopped presents a warning for western civilization about the intent and purpose of Muslims to make the entire world convert to Islam, pay a tax and submit, or be killed. The author, Brigitte Gabriel, is a Christian who was born and raised in Lebanon and experienced the effects of this plan of conquest and subjugation; a plan that is based on requirements for devout Muslims as detailed in the Koran. She points out specific verses and then compares to historical examples that have already happened and some that are happening today under the radar. Western societies based on Judeo Christian values ignore clues to what is actually happening because they naively believe in the goodness of all people. If even half of what the author presents is true, the world is in for major clashes between modern western religious societies and one rooted in the seventh century that is fundamentally opposed to, and incompatible with, today’s democratic societies that are based on equality and the rule of law! Great read, hard to put down, May challenge your understanding of world events.

A very important book. I wouldn't call her a great writer but she gets the point across that Islam is on a jihad mission. By stealth jihad, law jihad, food jihad and of course, terrorist jihad.

However, it has come to light recently that she has two other names and Brigitte Gabriel is not her real name. Many are now saying that her story of hiding out underground in Lebanon doesn't fit the timeline of the Islamists taking over Lebanon. I don't have enough information to make a judgment call.

However, if you have noticed tha prayer rooms are in schools etc for muslims and not for Christians or Jews, or that halal is on the menu, or that imams cry out to end our free speech, or even Benghazi, 9.11.01, USS COLE, Munich games, Pan Am Flight 73, the Russian schoolchildren massacre, Mumbai, the first world trade center bombing, mali disco bombing, 7/7, Madrid, the murder of Christians all over the world, the forced conversion of Coptic Christian girls to Islam, etc etc etc, and the contiuous rockets into Israel, then you may want to read this and find out more.

However, anyone who actually studied history in school and knew of Ottoman Empire, etc, won't be shocked.

Must read to counter Radical Islam

How Radical islam is a direct threat to all democracies across the world and how free speech secular liberals falling in trap of Islamist victim card play, How politicians subverting their native people with political correct statements about Islam just to win their next election, How leftists supporting Islam with their intellectual framework and How a common man can put up resistance to Radical islam was very well explained in this book. An absolute blistering examination of the Death Cult and their scripture which in the examples provided by the author reads like a Book of Murder. She calls out politicians who want to not incite anger and agree to the claim that this is all just a big misunderstanding. Insightful!

This is a good book, but not as good as her autobiographical first book. She discusses a wide variety of efforts of Muslims to promote Islam in the West. One interesting example was the Brooklyn dual-language Arabic-English elementary school Khalil Gibran International Academy, Although the Lebanese-American poet it is named for was a Maronite Christian, the school was founded by members of the religion of Islam, not by Christians. And its founders were not garden-variety Muslims, but Muslims who had close ties to the Islamist disinformation agency, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). Gabriel talks about how organizations associated with the Muslim Brotherhood are injecting pro-Islam ideas into American children's schoolbooks.

She makes great points as there are horrible teachings in that book but her ultra alarmist nature is astounding and it’s clearly consuming her feelings. She assumes the general Muslim will always follow the Koran and just because someone says there Muslim, means they won’t ever turn away. One of my best friends who was born into a Muslim family in Africa openly hates its teachings. Can’t say many of the points she makes are wrong but she has written this book with emotion and not one of intellectual thought which is a shame because she’s very smart.

Great book. Although a short read, it can get amazingly depressing so I had to take a couple breaks in between. I would recommend it though. It's time to realize that the experimentation with political correctness and multiculturalism has failed, we're being played like a violin and the Islamists are the maestro. The point of the book: what are we going to do about it?!
