Walter McGehee Hooper (b. 1931) is a trustee and literary advisor of the estate of C.S. Lewis. Born in Reidsville, North Carolina, he earned an M.A. in education and was an instructor in English at the University of Kentucky in the early 1960s. As a visitor to England, he served briefly (1963) as Lewis's private secretary when Lewis was in declining health. After Lewis's death in November 1963, Hooper devoted himself to Lewis's memory, eventually taking up residence in Oxford, England, where he now lives.

Hooper studied for the Anglican ministry and was ordained, serving as a chaplain and assistant priest in Oxford. He converted to the Roman Catholic faith in 1988. He is a frequent speaker at conferences and symposia.

"That afternoon, he gave tea to a young man from North Carolina, Walter Hooper, who was teaching in the University of Kentucky. They had been corresponding since 1954, and during the weeks that followed Lewis saw a great deal of him at The Kilns, and he took him along to the meetings of the Inklings."

--Walter Hooper, C.S. Lewis: A Complete Guide to His Life and Works

An exhaustive text on Lewis's life and works, written by his official biographer. The first 125 pages focus on Lewis, with the remainder of the work devoted to analyzing the pivotal people, places, and philosophical influences on Lewis's life and works. Highly recommend.

A guide to the life and works of CS Lewis, written by his literary executor, Walter Hooper, this volume gives you an overview of Lewis' life, each of his writings, they key ideas in his works, a who's who of peole significant to Lewis' life and writing process, and a list of...er... things (the book labels it "what's what") associated with CSL. Think of it as a richer version of "CS Lewis for dummies" - not hard to imagine if you lay the two side by side. "Complete Guide" is about three times thicker. :D

When you've got this many books about someone/something, it's good to have others' thoughts on the subject. Good for references to reviews, and pretty accurate summaries.
