Quincy has the same dream every year on Christmas Eve - of finding a little boy holding a special gift for her under the tree - and every Christmas morning, she's awoken to find a gift wrapped in tinfoil with her name on it...
When school resumes after the winter break, Quincy's class discovers they have an unusual new transfer student named Cupid. Ridiculously cute and friendly, the new boy has everyone both enamored and confused. Those antlers can't be real...can they?? With Cupid having seemingly set his sights on Quincy, it seems she'll be having a memorable year indeed!
Cassandra Jean is a freelance illustrator and comic artist who spends her days toiling with a pen in her hand, and her faithful dog sleeping at her feet. The radio is always on and Gatorade is a constant source of power! Her interests include video games, tattoos and town festivals. She has had works published both in the United States and abroad.
100% recommend this! The art is gorgeous as all Cassandra Jean's art is. The story was so cute and fun for Christmas time. I will reread it over and over
Reindeer Boy was an adorable story that was perfect to read on Christmas Eve. This is my first book by Cassandra Jean and I loved the story from start to finish! It was really cute and a funny story. I definitely caught myself laughing and had a smile on my face the entire time.
We follow the story of Quincy, a teenage girl who has a recurring dream of a boy with antlers each Christmas Eve. When she returns to school from Christmas break, she meets a boy "wearing" realistic - very realistic - antlers.
The first two reindeer we meet are Cupid and Comet. Quincy quickly becomes interested in Cupid because of his antlers and a few other things. The rest of the reindeer quickly show up and we get to know all of them and their unique personalities as Quincy begins spending time with them.
The artwork is fantastic in this heartwarming and lighthearted tale full of magic and the Christmas sprit. It was a fun, quick read that I could easily see myself revisiting every Christmas Eve. Definitely pick up a copy if you have a chance!
I am pretty familiar with Cassandra Jean's artwork (The Mortal Instruments GN and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children GN) and think her illustrations are beautiful. So when I learned that she had written and illustrated this festive little tale, I knew I had to check it out. I was not disappointed.
Reindeer Boy was super sweet and cute and fluffy, and yes, I did fancy some of the characters (namely Blitzen, Prancer and Cupid) *swoons* Anywho, RB is a relatively simple tale about a girl named Quincy who has the same dream every year at Christmas where a boy with antlers (hence the title) visits her and presents her with a gift wrapped in tin foil. The boy we find out later is Cupid.
This graphic novel depicts the lives of Santa's reindeers as humans (with antlers) who work as delivery people whilst attending Quincy's high school. There are lots of funny and cute moments, and the drawings made me really happy. They are gorgeous to look at!
What was really lovely was the reason behind Quincy growing antlers - she was Cupid's Christmas wish <3
I really hope Cassandra Jean explores the other characters' lives as this mainly focused on Cupid, as there is SO much potential here. Plus, I just want to see more of Blitzen and Prancer! :)

Well I did say I wanted something different to read and I think this definitely qualifies is different. It’s definitely a cute story and I really do enjoy the characters I would like actually like a part two of this I think it’s definitely got the potential to be a series. I don’t know if this would really count that was a Christmas story I guess in a way it does though I think this qualifies more as a love story than anything else though I am interested in reading more by this Author
I don't even know how to express what I'm feeling right now. I'm just so grateful, happy, impressed, overwhelmed, a mix of all of these... I don't have a precise word. I wish I could tell you what the story is about, but it wouldn't be fair to you, because you deserve to discover the story like I did and fall in love with all the characters. And the art ... Cassandra Jean is my favourite artist, so you can easily imagine how excited I was when I heard about Reindeer Boy, but what I imagined wasn't even half as good as the really. The art is SPECTACULAR. Please, tell me a second volume is on its way. I need more.
I really liked the art, it’s so beautiful! But the story itself was not my favorite. Had it been longer I think it could’ve been great. I also don’t think this will ever get a sequel...
I'm still baffled that this was stocked in stores early and that I was able to get this two days before release date. The publishing and bookselling world is magical. Thanks to Sarah Prineas for this wonderful early Christmas present!
I've been looking forward to this ever since it was announced back in the summer, but I also adore Jean's art and knew that another graphic novel filled with it was going to be a treat. After all, who doesn't want to stare at humans with antlers all day? It's the best thing ever!
I spent an hour on my sofa reading this graphic novel and smiling the entire way through, and it was all worth it. Reindeer Boy may be simplistic, but it's so darn earnest and cute that it's just plain charming. Jean's art is also gorgeous (and there's colored art pieces at the beginning of the chapter pages!) and fun to look at, and it gave the perfect visual element to an endearing story.
There's great characters all with their own little quirks, fun days in the life of everyone, but so much humor and sass and festivities that this makes the perfect holiday read. Reindeer Boy is certainly a graphic novel that shouldn't be missed.
Make sure to sit by your Christmas tree and drink hot chocolate for the best desired effect (which is what I should've done, but there was no hot chocolate at home).
Also, do it for the cute reindeer who likes to read!
Before Reading:
And of course the cover is gorgeous and makes me want to clutch it to my heart. ONLY ONE MORE MONTH.
Um...I need this. Like now. Cassandra Jean's art for the Reindeer Boys and Girls has been BEAUTIFUL and I know this graphic novel will be too. I'm already screaming just thinking about this.
What a cute start to this story. I'm pretty sure she isnt done yet, mostly because most of her ships are always gay/lesbian and has been developing these characters for years. But it was sweet and cute, and I absolutely love her drawings!
This was an unexpected re-read for me, but as I was spending all day at home, I wanted something cute and Christmassy. This came to mind. I hadn’t read this since 2017 and it felt very cosy and nostalgic reading this while it snowed outside and the turkey was cooking. Lovely read
Super fun concept with great humor and lovely art! That said, this felt like it's only Act I of a much larger story. It was all set up. I hope more volumes are planned! 4/5 stars.
I have always wanted a Christmas themed Graphic Novel, this was everything and more! So cute, and I'm obsessed with Reindeer anyway. I need more of these! Highly reccomend.
I read this after Christmas instead of during but it was cute enough for me that it didn't really matter.
I really enjoyed this short comic! The art was beautiful, the concept was interesting, and overall it was a really fun read!
Minus one star because the end felt unfinished and as far as I can tell there isn't anymore volumes so I will definitely have to live with some unanswered questions.
Recommended for those who like Christmas, cute love stories, and reindeer!
“But I’d like to know why it’s happening.” “So… Kris grants each one of us one Christmas wish. Someone must have made you their wish.”
Adorable and sweet, it’s just what I wanted to read for the Christmas season. Also, how weird is it that every single reindeer can pretty much be described as good-looking and sexy?
Cassandra Jean is so talented. I love the art she does for The Mortal Instruments, so when I saw she had a graphic novel of her own and it was Christmassy, I had to pick it up. It was cute. A very fast read, with not much substance, but still cute. I thought it ended kind of abruptly though.
My first book of the 2018, of course it had to be this one.
I spotted this book first a few months ago, and then wanted to wait to see if I would get it from Santa, which I did! When I flipped through the book a few months ago I was instantly in love. Not only because of the amazing Cassandra Jean art, but also because the idea of reindeer being human and falling in love with humans made my heart skip.
Our MC, Quincy, is a sweet and spunky girl who has a pretty happy life. Nothing much out of the ordinary except for during Christmas when she gets a special present every year. I loved how open she was when she met the reindeer people (unlike so many others who made fun of them), and how eager she was to learn more about them, what they did, what magic they knew. I also had quite a few laughs at her reactions to various things that the Reindeer people did/or when they explained stuff (like the time she just ran away), or when she met Kris (which had me laughing so hard I was coughing and woke up my boyfriend from his nap). :P
It was just so much fun to discover how Quincy got her horns (as apparently this doesn't happen normally), and I had kind of expected her to get angry when she learned the reasons (I know I would kind of be pissed). I was also happy that she didn't hide them for much longer. Though I do wonder how she will explain these antlers to people. Since it doesn't seem to be that common. I wonder if people will still be kind to her.
There is just one reason why I am not rating this a 5+ star as I was planning while I was reading. The whole Conway x Quincy stuff + how the ending was done. Conway x Quincy, I would have loved to see that explored (given how both of them feel) and seen that getting a proper closing instead of what happened now. Because with everything now it just felt like their togetherness was added for shit and giggles. Then there was the ending, it just felt forced and hurried. I feel there could be tons more of story, but the story was over all of the sudden.
Sure, I was happy with the couple, they match so well, but yeah, it could have been written a bit better.
The art was just absolutely fabulous. The characters are beautifully drawn, there are tons of details (like their eyes being the same as reindeer), and I just had to pause sometimes to drink up all the beautiful illustrations.
But all in all, I really loved this story, I love the idea of people who have reindeer antlers, who deliver things (magical and I just adored the reactions of people when they suddenly got their package), Kris Kringle, and so many other things. I just couldn't stop reading. And I was swooning at every new addition to the Reindeer family (oh boy oh boy).
I probably could rave and talk about this book longer, but I think I have said all I wanted to say! I would recommend this book to everyone, and I will be seeing if I can find more art by this artist/writer.
Cute little graphic novel about Quincy, who dreams of a boy with antlers visiting her each christmas, who has weird stumps forming on her forehead, and who has no idea how to deal with the new guy at school ...who has antlers.
Very light read that's a lot of fun, has great character design and in the artist's lovely style, but the story is very vague. Barely any of the "hows" and "whys" are answered, which fits the mood but makes it a bit unmemorably and lacking engagement. Still enjoyed reading it a lot and it made me laugh.
This book was beautifully put together! You could see every thought that was put into it. This was the first Graphic Novel I’ve ever read, and I think I need to read more because of this book.
Why did it take me this long to find this book? This was precious. The art is lovely and the story and characters are incredible sweet and enjoyable. I didn't realize this would be following santa's reindeer and I love that idea for the story. I only have one issue with this and that's just that I want more! I need more volumes and for this to be a full series. I could easily see this following some of the side characters and how much fun it would be to learn about them and how they got where they are. A great Christmas read.
3.5⭐️ Very cute, fun new take, but soooo many unanswered questions/unexplained things. (Also, how are all the normal teenagers so chill about these new kids having antlers?)
Such a sudden ending. I immediately looked up if there were more volumes after this one and was shocked that there aren’t. This graphic novel was on the short side for having so much lore to dip into and transform, so the length didn’t support that effort.
This was a great story with a gorgeous art style and likable characters. I read through it really quickly because I didn't want to put it down. It had a cute premise and a few parts of it really cracked me up. The only downside was that it was over too fast. I wish there was more, because I feel there's a lot more that could be explored with this idea.
