The Rosewoods #6

Making Ripples

Rate this book
Since Thanksgiving, life has gotten very complicated for Brooklyn Prescott. After being whisked away from Rosewood because of a threat on her life by terrorists-the bad guys her father is working hard to eradicate-she finds herself back in London. Now she has no friends, no boyfriend and is basically under house arrest courtesy of her father. But he's just trying to keep her safe now that the unforgiving press splashed her picture all over the tabloids after seeing her with the famous Declan, known as 'the Dashing Duke.' Brooklyn has gone from being on the cusp of having it all to having the life of a hermit. Trying to make the best of things, she uses her Christmas gift from her parents-a Moleskine notebook-to start writing, and even finds an intriguing subject to write about: the strange man who sits outside her window for hours at a time. As she creates his fictional story in her room at night, she starts to discover the real one by day. But as life begins to imitate art (or is it the other way around?), Brooklyn realizes she is in way too deep with this guy. And what about the boys she left back at Rosewood? Will she ever see them again? More importantly, will they ever be able to forgive her for what she did?

A young adult novel that tells the story of Brooklyn, whose father's work fighting terrorists has put her life at risk, and whose "house arrest" in London puts her in contact with a very handsome but troubled stranger. A friend of mine saw this book listed as a free Kindle read, so we agreed to try it for our book club. I ordered the book from Amazon because #oldfashioned, and I was surprised at the book that arrived in the mail. It resembles the photo here on goodreads, but the book was very clearly a Create Space publication. After seeing that, I had pretty low expectations for this novel. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The book was very readable. The author created a strong and memorable voice for the protagonist, Brooklyn. The side characters were equally interesting, though little was done in the way of character development. The plot, though not edge-of-your-seat (most of the novel takes place in Brooklyn's flat), captured my attention. That said, this novel would really benefit from a copy editor - there were quite a few missing periods at the end of sentences, quite a few extra commas, and the occasional mistype (ie: "It would be only the first the first of many times I would do the dodge and weave that night to avoid meeting Tristan.") And on a larger, less nit-picky level, most books in series do quite a bit of work to clue readers into major plot developments from previous novels because 1) it may have been several months since readers read the last book and 2) readers may have dropped midway into the series because of something like a free Kindle read. The Rosewood series seems to have a pretty strong following (judging from the goodreads raves!), but not having read a Rosewood book before, I was a little puzzled at why ISIS was after Brooklyn (even if her father worked against terrorists), who Brady, Dave, and Jared were (so which one is the coach? and why would a coach and a student be having an affair?), and honestly, what kind of boarding school is Rosewood (there's a duke there?). Some of these things end up getting explained in the final chapters of the book, but a few sentences of exposition earlier on would have been helpful. All in all, this was an enjoyable read with a few kinks that need to be ironed out.

Gradually making my way through this entertaining, fun series.
The books mainly focus on Brooklyn Prescott, the girl with a secret life, who ends up at prestigious Rosewood Academy for girls.
The first half of this book takes as to London (where B family find themselves after a security scare sent to Brooklyns phone, relating to her father line of work) the whole family are laying low. However, Brooklyn soon strikes up an unexpected friendship with a blind, heavy scared twenty-six year old Veteran with PTSD (Tristan Archer). It’s not long before things get hot and heavy between the two *sigh*. But! Brooklyn has told Tristan that she is older than her seventeen years (23) it turn out Brooklyns father know Tristan through ‘the agency’ and things get complicated.
Before you can blink, dear old dad has a case of the guilts about keeping B under safe house arrest and makes arrangements for her to return to Rosewood. Q, the reunion with all her GF’s.
Brooklyn also has some explaining to do to Dave (the boy she crushed on and almost got to kiss) and to Brady ( hunky, brooding equestrian coach)

This is where the story may me go...’OH C’MON!
Brooklyn is bereft, sobbing over the tonight that she has missed her opportunity with the budding Olympian only to find him hiding out in the school’s panic room/bunker.
When it got to the part where she found him there..I just threw my hands in the air and went NO FRICKEN WAY!...this twist just seemed to silly... and then she blew off Dave?
This part of the book was the biggest disappointment for me as it seemed the author was just looking for a way to clear the path for the Brady Brooklyn romance. That why this book only got four stars from me.

In between

I still love this series but this book was just an ok read for me, kind of like a slow interlude to get back to the real story.

Oh how I love this series, but Brooklyn's life is enough to give a person whiplash. Granted it isn't all under her control, but she could seriously make some better choices. (But again, she is a 17y/o high school girl.)
So after being whisked away to London for her protection (via the Swiss Alps) she is stuck inside almost all the time. One of the few times she sneaks out, she misses Brady, who had come all the way to London to find her.

My Review: This book was a little bit of a drag after all the build up of Brooklyn's story. It had gotten so exciting at the end of Reading Between the Lines but then it was as if Abbott wasn't sure what to do with her anymore so just stuffed Brooklyn away in the Alps for a while and then threw another love interest at her. I am honestly a little sick of her flitting between all the guys and constantly needing someone. At least we get back to where there can be a little more story going on. This book honestly read like a review, oh while you were away this is what happened with everyone, instead of going into the story. I did see that there is another book coming out later this year, hopefully we can get back to something a little more interesting and not so all over the place with love interests.

THE COVER - ONE WORD: PERFECTION

Final rating: 4.5/5

About this time one year ago, I read the very first Rosewoods book, and since then, I have been in love with the series, even after 6 books.
The plot, to me, is so much more interesting now than before. This book is different from the other ones, we get to know so much more about Brooklyn and her feelings. Also, I actually think that Making Ripples is the one book who got me smiling and laughing the most of all the books in the series. Couldn't let it down!

*From this point on, the review contains very slight spoilers if you haven't read the previous books*

The book follows Brooklyn in London and how she copes with the idea of never seeing her friends at Rosewood again, and her true feelings towards a certain Westwood boy ;)
But being in the apartment the whole day, Brooklyn is intrigued by this mysterious person sitting in the courtyard.

I really really like this new setting. This book is probably the mysterious of them all. And of course Tristan. Who makes me laugh and cry at the same time. Who has totally got his game. No need to say more.

All in all, I love this book. The only thing I am worried about is if the mystery of Making Ripples will end and everything will be back to the same style as the first 5 books, or if Katrina will continue to not disappoint us!
Can't wait!

Pointless and boring

Spoilers Ahead....This book on the series was a wasted reading. It was about Brooklyn being cooped up in a house for like 75% except the author added a new male character who has PTSD and is 26 y.o. I thought this book was going to have some as actions and romance. NOT just boring. Don't get where the author was going with the storyline. Worst is after the build up with Dave. There was zero on this book between Dave and Brady. Well pretty much Dave is no longer in the running because with Brooklyn interlude with Tristan/older guy it made her realized Dave wasn't it for her and that she was in love with Brady. Of course Brady seemed to be not into Brooklyn. This was all covered at the end like in a paragraph. This was a waste of money. Just a way to drag the series. Don't waste your time. I don't recommend this book and I am done on this series. I want my money back.

As much as I loved the connection she gained with the agency guy I'm extremely excited that she's finally realised that Brady is the one and worth every hardship of it! Plus she's going back to rosewood! I also can't believe that they saw each other through the window! I just hope Brady forgives her!
