Deadpool is one of the best mercenaries on the planet. He may even be a passable Avenger-jury's still out. But one thing's for sure-Deadpool is a terrible team leader. Think we're lying? Ask the Mercs for Money! Deadpool's taken on a new high-paying mission to take out radioactive super villains...and his Mercs aren't nearly as immune to radiation as his healing-factored heinie is. Deadpool veteran Cullen Bunn brings us mo' mercs, mo' money and naturally, mo' problems.
Cullen grew up in rural North Carolina, but now lives in the St. Louis area with his wife Cindy and his son Jackson. His noir/horror comic (and first collaboration with Brian Hurtt), The Damned, was published in 2007 by Oni Press. The follow-up, The Damned: Prodigal Sons, was released in 2008. In addition to The Sixth Gun, his current projects include Crooked Hills, a middle reader horror prose series from Evileye Books; The Tooth, an original graphic novel from Oni Press; and various work for Marvel and DC. Somewhere along the way, Cullen founded Undaunted Press and edited the critically acclaimed small press horror magazine, Whispers from the Shattered Forum.
All writers must pay their dues, and Cullen has worked various odd jobs, including Alien Autopsy Specialist, Rodeo Clown, Professional Wrestler Manager, and Sasquatch Wrangler.
And, yes, he has fought for his life against mountain lions and he did perform on stage as the World's Youngest Hypnotist. Buy him a drink sometime, and he'll tell you all about it.
Is mo' mercs, mo' monkeys, mo' problems, that funny? Maybe it is? Lots of guests from Domino and Negasonic Teenage Warhead to Radioactive Man and Cobalt Man as Wade leads the team on deadly (to their own health) missions. I am genuinely surprised as to how high I rated this at a Three Star, 6 out of 12. 2017 read
Lots of fun to be had here. Kind of like Suicide Squad but with Deadpool humor. Ok, no Harley Quinn, but I like Massacre and Stingray here as well as the other not-so-baddies. I think they hurried the story at the end a bit but it was still a fun romp with great graphics and lots of action amd laughs.
I only paid about £5 for this book, and it isn't even worth that. This is extremely hard to get through. There's pacing issues, a lack of interesting characters, flat writing, and a plot that just doesn't seem to go anywhere. If you were to ask me what I thought the highlight of this was, I genuinely wouldn't be able to pick a moment as there's so much unmemorable slosh which overshadows anything that could have been remotely entertaining. One redeeming factor is the art which is trying its absolute best to keep this alive. Another book that commits the ultimate sin of just being plain boring and unmemorable, what it did do a good job of was wasting my time.
A bit of a transitional volume here, starting with the original Mercs For Money falling apart and finishing with the new team put together and ready to kill things for cash. It's pretty funny with a lot of action.
I'm just ecstatic to have Machine Man back, to be honest... Love that guy!
Cullen Bunn excels in writing fun superhero comics and Deadpool and The Mercs for Money is no exception. Deadpool is now working with a team that includes the likes of Foolkiller and Terror Inc. They've been retained by a mysterious corporation to track down radioactive super humans. It's a great payday so Deadpool and his crew take on the jobs without asking any questions as to why this corporation wants these people Needless to say things don't go according to plan. If you're a Deadpool fan than this is the book for you. It moves fast and has some great artwork. A fun read on a slow weekend afternoon.
Being a mercenary and a superhero don't really mix, as Deadpool finds out for the umpteenth time. So he gets work from a morally questionable employer who he ends up having to turn against and stop. The team breaks up in this first volume, but don't worry, a new team shows up who is more competent. With appearances from Domino and Negasonic Teenage Warhead to coincide with the movie. The art is pretty good.
I like Cullen Bunn and Deadpool a lot, but this was bland. It mostly wasn't funny. Even though there was a lot of fighting, the energy was a little low most of the time. The fourth and fifth issues were the best two. I think it might have been better if there had been less members on the team, since most of them didn't get much time to distinguish themselves from the rest of them. I did like the art. It was nice and cartoony.
