Irony wears a disingenuous smile. Ren Lewis, who has faced every danger known to man, is about to meet a challenge he’s convinced has the power to undo him. When he discovers that his daughter, Adelaide, has been hiding a pregnancy he goes into hiding himself.
Having a daughter was one catastrophe Ren struggled with. But now, being expected to welcome her baby into his home is not something Ren knows how to assimilate into his life.
With a new ferocity he throws himself into his work in order to avoid family responsibility. And there’s enough work to keep him occupied with Vivian Bishop trying to infiltrate American homes, intent on controlling and manipulating their residents.
Ren soon realizes that Vivian is his perfect enemy. She’s strategic, brilliant and stunningly beautiful.
In this third and final installment, the monster in Ren will have to do the unspeakable. He will have to evolve. Nothing in his life can be approached employing any of the strategies he’s used before. The evolution of Ren might be his undoing, but it might also be the one thing that brings him real happiness.

My original Ren: The Monster Inside the Monster audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer. This was the final installment in Sarah Noffke’s Ren series about my favorite sarcastic and obstinate British anti-hero. There will be spoilers if you have not yet read, or listened to, books 1 or 2, Ren: The Man Behind the Monster and Ren: God's Little Monster, which I would highly recommend as this trilogy is brilliant entertainment (and there is a boxed set now, so all three together for one Audible credit!). This one starts off right after God’s Little Monster and is full to the brim with emotions as Ren struggles to come to term with the fact that not only is he a father but he is about to become a grandfather. His daughter, Adelaide, is so much like Ren it would be scary if it wasn’t so hilariously funny, and then there is the monster inside the monster, a screaming baby boy, who is causing havoc with Adelaide’s emotions and is bringing out the most altruistic version of Ren we have ever seen. On the work front, Ren makes some rather unconventional decisions in order to defeat Vivian and save humanity. How his girlfriend Dahlia puts up with him I really don’t know, the woman must be a saint. This was a bittersweet ending as it was the last part of Ren’s story and I have completely fallen in love with these characters, above all Ren. I hope there will be more of him and his family in the future. I always tell myself I am going to savor these slowly, but then I end up listening to the entire story in one go. Every time.
The narration by Tim Campbell was faultless in my opinion. Tim is Ren. He perfectly embodies Ren’s persona and lends him just the right mocking and tenacious voice to bring Ren truly to life. There were no issues with the production.
Overall, a fantastic mix of humor, action, emotions, and intrigue within a paranormal fantasy setting. Audiobook provided for review by the audiobookreviewer.com
*I received the book from the author for an honest review!*
I have to say with all the honesty I am capable of, I WANT TO STRANGLE REN, and then I want to pet him. Is that a bad thing? Is that something a socially inept psychopath prone to bipolar tendencies would do? I just can't figure it out. I mean, I love Sarah, I looooooovvvveeee her. I even lurve her. But do you realize how crazy a person must be to come up with a character such as Ren. I really don't want to know what goes on in her head, I think I would start cutting listening to Dahlia's songs. *whispers conspiratorially* I secretly think Dahlia is Britney Spears in Sarah's head *runs and hides* Ok, so now that we've got that all sorted out and we know Sarah is the most insane author to ever walk the face of the Earth, let's come back to the little monster, or big monster. After that ending in the second book, I was just so anxious to read the next and final installment. And boy did I get an eyeful. I don't know how she does it, must be that insane streak, but she always manages to preserve all her character's traits even while they evolve. That's such a tremendous accomplishment that even seasoned writers don't have a grasp on. I have to say that I don't think I've read such well rounded characters till Ms. Noffke's books. Dhalia is the most forgiving and understanding woman in the known Universe. I swear to God I would have castrated Ren for what he did, be it his job or not. I've got to give it to Dahlia, she's the reincarnation of Mother Theresa in my book. My dear Adelaide, like with your father, I want to strangle you. But it cannot be helped. I also want to pet you. And OMG little Lucifer *cough* Lucien will be a total delight when he grows up. I just know it. I hope there will be his book also. One word: EPIC. So there you have it, two slices of crazy with bacon, cheese and ketch-up, TO GO.
Thank you so much for gifting me with these books. They are so worth reading.
***I received the ARC eBook as a gift from the author with no obligation to review***
It’s fair to say that Ren has a… unique attitude towards life and relationships. It’s equally fair to say that I love his character for it! Sure he can be cruel and uncaring and a complete jerk which makes you want to hit him over the head, but he can also be selfless and snarky and sincere which makes you want to give him a hug (and I still hold on to the idea that he would protest more at this). Not to forget the amount of hilariously snarky comments that come out of his mouth. Or the brilliant schemes from his mind.
In Ren’s story, there’s always a new challenge around the corner and in this final instalment it’s no different. With admirable opponents, uncontrollable family members (including one screaming baby) and intense emotional dilemmas; Ren continues to have everything he knows and is put to the test. The end result is a book filled with amazing moments that I can’t stop thinking about. While I’m undeniably sad to see this series end, I’m glad that I’ve had the chance to read about such a well written and developed person. Now I’ll be looking forward to the next!
Review of Ren. The Monster inside the Man Have you ever read a book that blew your mind and you had to immediately read it again? ! Yep that just happened with this book. I am dumbfounded with the talent this author holds. Ren is by far one of my favorite characters ever! I love him even more after this book. His arrogance, his brutally honest persona, his intelligence and his heart ( yes I said heart) were in serious competition to be center stage in this story. With the insane plot and devious twists, I understand why Ren is the man he is. I think this man is a bipolar genius. The ends he is willing to go to just to win makes me laugh. He has made me want to punch him in the face then hug him and tell him it will be ok the next. This book is bittersweet for me. I have come to love these characters and do not want to let them go! I will miss his snarky better than you British attitude. His uncany way to make you laugh and get angry. I am however hopefully he will continue to make appearances in other books. Thank you for giving us this gift of Ren Lewis
Ren's story is addictive, once you start you can't stop. In this one we are pulled into his daughter's and grandson's life and the crazy things Ren must do to 'save the world'. Another wonderful instalment in Ren's series.
Ren Lewis is not happy and you know it from page one. Life in his well ordered world has just been upended by his unrepentant little monster. Irascibly entertaining, Ren must deal with both problems at work and his unsettled household with his limited patience and coping skills. Sarah Noffke has the ability to take a cantankerous curmudgeon and make him not only lovable, but leave the reader wanting more. A suitable conclusion to a satisfying series.
This last book in the REN series does not disappoint, the evolution of the characters, the humour, heartbreak, intrigue and suspense will not let you put this captivating read down. Not only does Ren have to navigates the turbulent waters of becoming both a father and a grandfather, but he must also discover the mole within the Lucidite Institute and defeat the brilliant Vivian before her plans, for both him and the middlings, come to fruition. This is a heart wrenching, hair pulling, breath taking, beautiful end to the series. The twists and turns in the the plot, the growth and change in the characters, and the roller coaster of emotions the author takes us on is simply amazing. From Ren himself, to Adelaide, Dalia and even Vivian, the maturation and depth of character shown is excellent and yet the author still managed to keep their individual quirks and personalities intact throughout the evolution. I loved how characters from her other books were interweaved in the story, not only adding to this story but also adding depth to the Dream Traveller world as a whole and helping the reader form a cohesive timeline between the various books. I am sad that this is the final REN book, as I have truly enjoyed this amazing character. His caustic wit, arrogance, dry sarcastic comments, brilliant mind and flawed personality has kept us laughing, made us want to strangle him, but he has also caused our hearts to bleed. The amount of emotion that this character has been able to elicit from readers is a testament to how well written these books are and how fully developed this character is. We will mourn that we will no longer hear that snarky British accent as we get to read Sarah's words
Ren Lewis isn’t a man that shows emotion or even allows himself to feel. He has built a wall around himself. Now, not only does he find that out that he has a daughter, she is pregnant with his grandchild. Neither is he prepared to embrace. And, an evil enchantress, Vivian, is out to make Ren her own. She is his intellectual equal on many levels. Will these events destroy him or will Ren evolve?
Noffke’s final installment in the Ren series, Ren: The Monster Inside The Monster, delivers the most heart wrenching story of all. It is a masterful conclusion filled with a rollercoaster of emotions. Noffke eloquently conveys how Ren struggles with new realizations about himself. But, don’t worry, he doesn’t lose his snark.
As much as I hated that Ren’s series has come to an end, it was written in the best way possible. Noffke has out done herself. I’m certain that we will see the redheaded Brit pop up from time to time in her other novels.
5 out of 5 stars.
I received this book for free from the author for review consideration. This in no way affected my opinion of the book, or the content of my review.
Ren as usual doesn't disappoint with his British snark and sassy attitude. However, Ren 3 delivers more than just the expected and adored snark. There is an evolutionary nature to this book that will tug at your heartstrings. Yes, I said a Ren book is going to evoke emotions - I know you think I must have hit my head, but I didn't.
Wow this book was so amazingly good. Loved the whole Ren series. Sarah is an amazingly talented author. Highly recommend her books. So many twists and turns. It was really hard putting this book down.
I've fallen head first into this series. Just going through them like candy bars. I love Ren's foul mouthed comments and grumpy demeanor. The character development in this book was spot on. It wasnt so bold that we lost what we love and it wasnt so subtle that we missed it.
If you're a sensitive or easily offended type person, then I'd advise you to steer clear of this one. Ren drops so many F-bombs and "controversial" jabs that I thought I was listening to the English version of Dave Chappelle 🤣.
For me, I haven't really seen Ren as the bad guy. However, in this book he really shows the qualities that could make someone hate him. I didnt agree with his actions and that made me more eager to see what happens. He doesnt handle the pregnancy well at all. The scene in the hospital almost broke my heart and I wanted him get slapped!
But that is what a good book is all about. It brings out your emotions and makes you really feel something towards the characters. I'm all in for this one. I'll be listening to every single one. Not sure why some reviewers are saying this is the last one because I've got two more showing up in this series.
Now there were some things that I found a little annoying:
1.The first is the villian in this book. The villian who is as smart and analytical as Ren wouldn't be beaten so easily. Also, villains that smart would back a Plan B and a Plan C. It felt like the author was running out of time and just had to end it where she was before the shot clock ran out.
2. How come we've never heard the lyrics to any of Deliah's songs?
3. How come the paparazzi dont harrass Ren? He is dating a pop star, right?
4. Why is Deliah 40 years old but all of her fans are still referred to as teenagers?
It appears that Ren is part of a larger story. I'm only assuming it's about Trey and his kids since he is the boss. After I finish bn up Ren's series then I'll check out the other stories. It's hard to imagine listening to something about Dreamwalkers and him not being the lead character. I'll have to see how it goes.
3 Stars 🌟🌟🌟- Good Book. I like the overall concept and it was delivered well. Most common ranking for a book I enjoyed and look forward to the next.
A third book in a series is hard to review. What do you say that hasn't been said before? The characters are the same. In the case of this series, which is all parts of the same over-arching storyline, the plot is much the same. You're basically left with a review that says, I liked this one more or less than the previous two. And I liked it about the same.
It's holding steady at a 3-star read. I've gotten comfortable enough with Ren to appreciate his sarcasm (though he'd never call it that) and I think it's cute the way everyone else thinks it's cute too. He's like an adorable spikey hedgehog.
Like in the previous book, the problem I had with the book was the mystery plot. I just don't buy the "girl was obsessed with him, planned world domination to be with him, was smart enough to pull it all off, but left the giant back door open for Ren to cancel it all out with ease" plotting. Nope, it was far too easy.
Further, I thought he pushed Dahlia too far in this one and she should have walked. I appreciate that he showed personal growth in knowing he should have felt guilty (where in the past he wouldn't have), but why does Dahlia put up with it?
Ren who hates stupid, and prefers to do things his way in his carefully organized life is about to lose his cool in epic proportions when he finds out his daughter Adelaide is pregnant and has been hiding it. Ren is going to become a grandfather, against his will, and this is going to bring a whole new level of chaos into his life. Will Ren embrace his new position? Or will he hide until it's all over?
Great third book in this series, and as always really enjoyable listen.
I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
Ren is amazing and I’m so glad that Sarah Noffke let his story be told. Let’s face it he is snarky tell it like he sees it and holds nothing back no matter who you are he does not care. You either love him, hate him, or love to hate him but again he does not care. Then you add Adelaide his daughter to the mix and she is exactly like him only difference is she wants Ren to love her and care about her but the Monster in them both knows that is just not possible.
When God’s Little Monster ends we find out Adelaide is prego and now Ren is trying to stay as far away from her and the monster she created by tossing himself into his work. He has to find out what Vivian’s true game plan is before she implements her plan. She is out maneuvering them at every turn and there is a mole he has to flush out of the institute.
Back at home Adelaide was not dealing well with her new baby. He would cry all the time. Ironicly the only one that could clam him was Ren. I wanted to shake Ren for the way he was treating Adelaide while she was going through her pregnancy and when she was giving birth, I know he was just being Ren but WOW just WOW. Then with this the issues Adelaide was brining on herself, the nanny’s departing like leaves on trees in the fall, and the decisions Ren was making to solve this case it’s no wonder Dahlia walked away.
I loved this series Ren was the best he was the same no holds bar snarky man throughout the series. If he didn’t like someone which was mostly everyone he treated them the same throughout the entire series. Ren and Dahlia relationship was priceless only he and Dahlia could survive a relationship like this. The way he never called anyone by their real name only by names he chooses to call them by was great. The fact that Adelaide did the same thing was a hoot. The way Ren went about solving this case I wanted to throat punch him I mean really how could he do that to Dahlia. The way he treated Lucien I mean I shouldn’t be shocked it is Ren after all but come on Ren this is your Grandson, a baby, how bad can it be. The thing I loved the most about this series is how Sarah Noffke is able to intertwine her other series with this one there is Dr. David Reardon in here who I love seeing again by the way. Sarah had me guessing to the very end I thought I knew but she did a great job keeping in the dark tell the end. Each series I read I say this is my favorite then she writes another series and out does herself this is no different. I fell in love with Ren the first time I Read him and I still love him. I only hope I get to see him again sometime in another one of Sarah’s series.
Wow! This is the book that shows why Sarah Noffke is one of the hottest new authors out there! How often is it that the third book in a series is even better than the fantastic first book?! Everything you think you know about Ren is questioned; you cannot predict how he’s going to react to all the extenuating circumstances he finds himself thrown into this time. Not only are there the usual unexpected twists and turns, but there’s a HUGE one that I’m still trying to wrap my head around. We’re introduced to some quirky new minor characters who really add a lot during their limited appearances, although I’m sure this won’t be the last we see of them. After this, I think it’s only fair that an entire trilogy is written about Ren’s mini-me grandson (maybe with Aiden and Roya’s child as well?!), which I’ll be expecting out by 2017.
I have really enjoyed the Ren series. The story evolves and enlarges the readers understanding of what makes Ren tick. His suffering and happiness combine into a hellava book. This is the darkest of Sarah Nofkes books, yet it is my favorite. It reveals the dual natures of humans and the struggles we all face to some degree in our lives.I am going to really miss the snarky Brit.Yet I have hope that we might see a series based on Adelaide or Lucian's lives. The narrator has a pleasant voice and does an amazing job portraying the story.I received an audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Book three had yet another feel to it and, although different to the previous two books, I felt this story was just as compelling!
Book three followed on seamlessly from the previous book and, although there were a few issues that I passionately disagreed with, as Ren and Dahlia discussed their points of view, where the poor are concerned, it did make me think about their viewpoint, even if I still couldn't agree with it in the end - and thinking of different points of view is always a good thing - but it didn't put me off, and I still couldn't put the book down!
I loved every minute of reading this story, and was so surprised to realise that yet another character that I had taken to, as a main one in the Vagabond Circus series, that I've not long finished reading - it was wonderful to meet him again, but before he started up the Circus this time!
I must admit, although the Ren series was supposed to be read before the Vagabond Circus, I'm glad I read them the other way, so that I was more familiar with certain characters.
Anyway, the ending to this story was quite a surprise, and it actually felt more like an ending to the series - until I remembered that there were more books than that - so I'm very happy to be going on to read book four of the series: The Monster's Adventure and, as before, I'll catch you on the flip side, to tell you what I think of it all!
Ok so not my favorite book in the series over all. Not because of the writing but because of the horrid behaviors of mostly one character. I was very happy that Ren stepped up/into that situation. However, the lengths that one may go to justify the means didn't sit well with me either during one of the cases. Very disappointed with how that was done & blown away that any woman would be so blasè about it either. Tsk smh
It makes me sad to give such a poor review. BUUTTT, this book won't keep me from reading the next. You can't always bat a hundred!
My star ratings include these 5 elements: .5★ story line .5★ engaging characters .5★ use of world building/descriptions 1★ narration or editing .5★ the ending
This man causes me the most profound stress while trying to decide whether I love him or hate him. He's sarcastic and bitter and downright cruel, but he's lived a life that's caused him to disconnect from his emotions in order to survive. So my options are to throttle him or hug him I just and can't make up my mind which would be the better choice. Ren undergoes some pretty extensive personal growth during this book. The two previous books hinted that something major was coming but I admit I wasn't expecting this. I consider it a prime example of the author's skills that she can give us such a thoroughly unlikable character that we love anyway. I received a complimentary copy of this book.
Ren's genius is tested to the limit, with events that seem to be out of control on all fronts. However, as the storyline pulls all the threads together, so does the plot thickens and then is dealt with, with a masterful sweep of the pen. I have enjoyed the audio rendition of this series, and love the attitude exuded by Ren's character, one cannot exactly love him, but you have to admire the temerity of the characters created, and in turn, the craftsmanship of the author.
Ren: The Man Inside the Monster (Ren Series #3), my twenty-sixth read from author Sarah Noffke. I got this book back in March of 2018 and somehow never got around to reading it. Now, after having read Ren: The Man Inside the Monster (Ren Series #3, I’m continuing the series sequentially. A well written, interesting read, with intriguing, well developed characters. Up next is Ren: The Monster’s Adventure. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
I don't know if I love to hate Ren or if I hate to love him. Indifference is not an option. This is a story where not just the villains are certifiable. Relationships are complicated. Life is complicated. Cheer or boo these characters; either way will still have you caring what happens to them. And that is what a great story does. Enjoy.
Ren is fascinating and full of contradictions. Seeing him evolve, grow, and discover truths about himself is riveting.
The range of emotions expressed, the truths and lessons learnt, are so full. This is an intense series about an intense man, and I'm glad that it isn't the final book.
The Monster Inside the Monster (Ren #3) was a good read by Sarah Noffke. Ren feels like this next challenge will be the thing that undo's him. He discovers his daughter is hiding that she's pregnant. He avoids family responsibility by throwing himself into his work. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more by the author.
This series just keeps getting better! It’s amazing to see RENs character development and how he deals with the adversities put in his path. As far as I go in the series the more I enjoy Ren and his narrative. A super well written sequence to so far my favorite saga by Sarah Noffke!
Well, that's quite an interesting life and characters. I'm looking forward to seeing how Ren gets on with the little family he has retired to spend time with.
The title made me chuckle! Ren has to deal with his daughter and a new grand-child. I am wondering if he will ever come to terms with life and stop being so grumpy all the time.
