Lana Stryker adored the life that she and her husband Axel had built together; three healthy beautiful children, a happy home and successful careers, who could ask for anything more? So why did Lana feel as if something was missing?
When she catches the eye of a younger man, Lana is surprised to find herself returning his interest and engages in a brief fling that shatters her husband and sends their marriage into free fall. She's desperate to fix it but he's deeply injured and bit resistant to trust her again.
Can Lana mend her Axel's heart and restore his faith in her or is her betrayal too deep to let go of?
I read this book on Kindle Unlimited. This is my second book by this author.
This is Lana and Axel's story. The couple have been together for a long time, the story explores what happens when Lana is "tempted" to seek attention outside of her marriage with another man.
What I found interesting about this story is that all the feelings and emotions that Axel shares about Lana's betrayal seem totally justified at first. Then we we see that everything is not as it seems. Axel has some sins of his own and his wife was totally forgiving and never held it against him. However, when its Axel's turn to do the forgiving it appears so much harder to do. I found Axel to be a total hypocrite but I found his character totally believable.
The book explores marriage, relationships, unresolved issues that we take into a marriage that never get dealt with until something bigger happens and starts tearing at the foundation of your relationship, which you believed had a firm crack-proof foundation.
Marriage/relationship that get in trouble need counselling and this couple made it their last resort instead of their first. If they had done this first instead of trying to resolve all the issues themselves, then maybe what Axel finally did, would not have rocked the foundation of his marriage and may not even have happened.
The story is well written and thought provoking. Well worth a read.
Oh boy, LOVED this book! This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Clayborne but most definitely not the last. The characters were so real and flawed just like real life. I did love the depth of emotion that each had for the others.
I also loved their kids, her parents and both of their friends. 1-click this one and experience some real writing. Must read!!!!
First let me admit that I am not married, and I have never been married — so obviously I have no personal experience to draw from when reading about marriage. I only know from what I have observed from family members and from other people. With that said, I found this book to be an honest portrayal of what people go through. Some of my favorite scenes in the book were when Lana and Axel were with their children. The family jokes and the parental discipline came off natural and realistic from my point of view as a daughter and sibling. (LOL! ;) )
I genuinely liked both characters and I really wanted them to get passed this trial in their relationship and come out the otherside stronger for it. Although I liked Axel, I really struggled with his hypocrisy in regards to Lana’s “infidelity”. I felt his pain and sympathized with him, BUT I do despise the double standard that sometimes exists with men and women in regards to cheating.
I also have to tip my hat to Ms. Clayborne for throwing a bit of a curve ball at me with this story. I thought I knew where it was heading and then an incident with Axel occurs that I honestly never saw coming. She REALLY surprised me there… so, KUDOS to her for that!
Also for those like me who love steamy sex scenes, we got several to enjoy! :)
This is the third book I’ve read by Ms. Clayborne and I really love her work. I definitely recommend this one! One of my favorite books that I read this year. :)
I really enjoyed reading this story because it spoke on real marital issues that occur with everyday families. Axel & Lana were thought to have had that perfect marriage that other couples would dream of, but were soon faced with some damaging issues that not everyone would come back from. I liked the dialogue & how the story was told. Some parts were fast paced which I was thankful for because I don't like drawn out situations. The only problems I did have was the way Axel treated Lana after the "incident" she had especially when he tried justifying his previous ways by putting it on not being married at the time..um no. I'm glad he realised that wasn't the case. But also the cabin getaway really nailed it in the coffin for me. I'm glad that things were able to be resolved & I'm sure it's possible to overcome when you have a fire burning love like they do, but it really dampened the mood. It left me a bit torn because I wanted to be happy but I thought they needed more time to heal. Overall great work by the author, I'll definitely look into other books by Kimberly.
This was a really great read. Everything in this story was more of how marriages are when infidelity come into play. There are always some underlying issues. Loved how even though Axel loved Lana, the truth of how men feel about their infidelity and when their wives cheat is something that can't handle and totally unravel. The only drawback, that had me on the verge of stop reading is I was nearly 4 chapters in before knowing anything about Lana's physical description. Axel was described almost immediately, like the first few paragraphs in but I had nothing to go on as far as any of Lana's traits until their children were being described. Just as a reader, I need to be able to connect the characters with story I'm reading but the story was soooo good and I eventually got some kind of description that redeemed the book.
