The Moonshot Effect is a must-read for leaders and includes 24 critical practices that are not only essential to leading and managing a successful moonshot, but can benefit executives and entrepreneurs on a daily basis. With Lisa and Kate as your guides, you'll be ready to launch your own moonshot.

Kate Purmal and Lisa Goldman were members of extraordinary moonshot teams early in their careers and have since inspired, led or guided countless moonshot projects. Today, they speak and write about the power of moonshots and challenge CEOs, leaders and their teams to launch projects that will transform their businesses and careers.

A boring powerpoint stretched into a book. I was expecting to be inspired but was instead bored to death. I only read 20% of this so it might redeem itself but I doubt it.

Read like a short presentation or long form article that was stretched out into a full length book.

I’d recommend the first quarter of this book if you’re looking for a bit of inspiration and some unique perspective and tips for shooting big.

However, be a bit forewarned that there is some questionable advice, such as the cheap and deceitful tactic: “Call an emergency meeting. Using the term emergency implants urgency from the inception of the project.”

Early on, you’ll also find that behind the thesis is that in order for your moonshot to be successful, you need be good at running a successful business and project, which means you need to be a successful person who can successfully put together a team of successful people. So what follows that first quarter is a general ‘How-To Success,’ including adopt a Power Stance, build rapport through mirroring, be sure to connect with influencers, how to run an effective meeting, make sure you check in on results rather than effort, and how to adjust course when necessary.

It’s not that it’s a bad introduction to all of that, but it’s superficial and definitely not the best book on those topics. More importantly, it’s tangential — filler, almost — to the headline topic.

This is one of these books with x steps to great success, in this instance realizing dreams and ambitious projects. I just did not like the writing too much and the style in general. It was hard for me to get something out, which I can apply to my daily lives, but this is a personal opinion. Not everyone wants to pursue such lofty goals.

2 star rating at goodreads.com state 'it was ok', and that it was.

I recognize that this book has a lot of great information for pursuing accomplishments that are out of the ordinary. However, it’s mainly targeted towards individuals who are in leadership roles or the head of a company, someone who has a team of individuals to guide. That’s definitely not me currently but I still absorbed helpful information for pursuing entrepreneurship and knowing how to be a successful leader.

I won a copy of this book during a Goodreads giveaway. I am under no obligation to leave a review or rating and do so voluntarily. I am paying it forward by passing this book along to a business organization that offers business skills, hope, and dreams to be used in their ministry.

I didn't learn anything new that I haven't already heard. It is good for anyone that has never lead people. Excellent book for those in education. The information is presented using the moon landing project as the example.

The case studies were interesting and useful, but the point could have gotten across in an essay or pamphlet. I read a few chapters and skimmed the rest and didn't feel like I missed much.

I received this book free from Goodreads Giveaway. I was somewhat disappointing that this book was not what I expected. I had thought it would be a great read since I am a small business owner. However, the book is more geared toward CEOs and boardroom conversations. I found that 99% of it did not pertain to me, which was a let down because the book blurb had me under the impression it would be a good book for anyone in the business community. Skip this one unless you are a CEO or frequent your company's boardroom.

(3.5) a lot of good management tips/advice, kind of shoehorned into the moonshot conceit.

Highlight for me was the section on giving praise. There are multiple levels of it, and the important part is to convey the impact that the praiseworthy action has had (on yourself, level 3; or on wider company/society/the world, level 4).

I received this book from the Goodreads First Reads in exchange for an honest review....

I was disappointed in this book and the limited audience that it was set for. Upon first picking up this book I thought I might find it beneficial, or at least be able to walk away from it with a slightly better insight and knowledge, yet this book failed to deliver that. This book isn't the greatest pick for people who are inspired to be business owners or entrepreneurs, but for people who are already at the top, in a shiny office, as a CEO of some sort. The limited audience just made this book a complete waste of my time and an utter disappointment. The author should have expanded his knowledge and advice, and been more broad, so that it was suitable for people who aren't already at the tippy-top of "success".
