Stella James is a Canadian indie author of the romance variety. She enjoys reading, yoga and fitness, a good rosé and the occasional beer (because, Canada). She currently resides on a small acreage with her husband and three young daughters.
I had to sit on this one for a while. My emotions were all over the place. This latest installment in the Blue Falls series was angsty and emotional....way more than the other books, IMO.
Kate and Asher have been friends since kindergarten. They've each lived their own separate lives but remain close friends. After Asher is hurt while on duty, Kate goes to be by his side. Dealing with his grief and anger, he pushes her away. 6 Months later he returns to hole himself up in his family's cabin. Kate decides she won't let him wither away and goes to try to pull him out of his funk. So begins their relationship that is more than just friends.
I absolutely loved Kate. She's a very "get things done" kind of person. She's funny and sweet which makes her very well rounded. She was determined to help Asher heal. Unfortunately, she's not all that he needs.
Asher is very angry and guilt ridden. He suffers from depression and severe PTSD, drinking to drown out the feelings. I think this is one of the most realistic books I've read, that deals with PTSD...or it seemed to be to me. It was totally believable. It was very easy to see how PTSD can tear families apart. My heart broke for both Kate and Asher as they try to deal. And when Asher breaks down in front of his dad and realizes he doesn't want to continue to live this way, I cried big, fat, ugly tears.
I had very mixed feelings about Asher. I could see and feel his pain but I hate how he pushed Katie away and treated her at times. She was a damn saint to put up with it as long as she did. Once he gets his shit together, he's all in and knows what he wants. But, here is where I think this book could have benefited from being longer. I would have liked more time of them together as a couple once Asher was healed. Most of the book, is their struggle of dealing with the PTSD and trying to be a couple. I needed more couple time to make ME feel good.
I can say, this author can write. I love her writing and I can't wait to read more of her work. She gives us wonderful epilogues several years into the future. This one actually had a bonus epilogue that is actually a precursor to Kate and Asher's story. I'm looking forward to Hannah's story.
Asher and Kate have been friends since childhood. That's it, just friends. Clearly they love each other, but in this story you find out just how much they do.
Asher is in the military and ends up getting hurt and having to come home. Reluctantly that is. He's damaged mentally and physically and he just doesn't want to deal with any of it.
Kate isn't going to let that happen. She loves Asher and will do anything to get him back to himself or at least be there for him in the mean time.
This story was amazing. It was emotional, and it was sexy, and there was even a little bit of humor at parts. I'm not usually into military romances, but I've found that when they are part of a series with different tropes I can get into them easier. I'm so glad I read this one because reading about Kate and Asher was refreshing. There was angst for sure, but it wasn't OVER THE TOP. It was realistic and felt very true to the characters and the series IMO.
Stella's writing gets better and better with each book! I can't wait to see what comes next!
"Worth The Fight" Blue Falls #3 is by author Stella James. My Rating 5 Stars!!!!!"
"Worth The Fight" is part of the Blue Falls series. This story features Kate and Asher. We met Katie in the previous books. And from those books we were able to guess about her love interest. This is a "friends to lovers trope," and done well. These two were best friends for more than twenty years. Since they were five. But they were nothing more than that. Not even a hint.
Until now...ten years later after Asher returns home injured from the military where he spent nearly a decade of his life.
Asher was injured in a bombing that killed two of his close friends and leaves him scarred from injuries. But those injuries are the least of Asher's problems. In fact, he could care less about his scars. How could he dare to care when he lived and his friends are dead? Asher is dealing with surviver's guilt pretty heavily. He's also having frequent nightmares of the bombing. Sadly instead of dealing appropriately with his PTSD by going for recommended counseling, he seeks help from that darkness in a bottle. Many bottles, actually. I wanted to hold Asher in my arms. I wanted to hug him and tell him everything would be alright. But the healing Asher needed had to be sought out by himself, because he wanted it. Because he wanted to heal.
Asher believes he's not fit to be around people. Especially his parents and Katie, his best friend. So he elects seclusion at his parent's fishing cabin where he can be alone with his demons. But there is one person who refuses to honor his wishes. No way is Katie going to leave Asher, her best friend, to suffer alone when she wants to help. He would do the same for her.
Of course, Asher is angry at Katie's intrusion. He doesn't want her help. In fact, he wants her gone. Naturally, Katie refuses to leave him alone and what follows between them is angst, animosity, heartache, and determination. Her's to help, his to make her leave. I don't want to give anything away regarding what happens between them. Because this is such a short story (I wish it were longer), you'll want to experience all the different emotions on your own.
I want to say that Stella James wrote a touching, sensual, love story. I smiled, I got frustrated and worried and I even cried (several times). I wanted a happily ever after so bad for Asher and Kate. And I was very happy at how their ending turned out. I was proud of Asher and thrilled for them both. The epilogues were adorable and perfectly fitting. Throughout this book we got glimpses of characters from previous books like that one and only, "tell it like it is," Mona. She was an amazing friend to Katie.
*Voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader's copy of this novel*
Looking forward to the next novel from Stella James.
Safety -childhood Bffs -no romantic interests till he's back in town after he's healed from his injurys -both have been with other people through the years -once they are "together" there is no one else - he does get drunk one night and gets A little flirty with a waitress, but that's it -there is push and pull, he has PTSD and thinks she deserves better - he's also an alcoholic, has nightmares, mean and grouchy
So no this was not a "Safe" book, but when the theme is childhood BFFs I knew that going in.
The thing I loved most about this book is the fact that their relationship was based on an honest to god friendship, no attraction sexually. Just a genuine friendship.
The moment they crossed that friendship line.... it was like the flood gates opened!
This book was really good, and even though it was not 100% safe it's still worth the read.
I really like this author! Every book that comes out I read in one sitting!
Over all a hot alpha male read that makes your heart clench!
I am in love with Blue Falls that's been known from the first book I've read but reading about Asher and Katie, wow. I've felt a connection with each of the characters but when it came to reading Asher and what he has been through what he was going through still just hit he hard. The sex scenes between these two are hot hot hot and if you've read any of Stella's work you know you're never left disappointed. I love how everyone from Blue Falls gets to have some scenes in this story as well. It's nice seeing what's going on in all their lives as well. The epilogue couldn't be more perfect, biggest smile on my face reading that and even had a few happy tears falling in the process. I love these characters, this woman's work and don't want it to ever end. Another amazing book by Stella James. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
What can I say about this book, where do I start? I LOVE IT. Stella has a way of painting such a rich setting with Blue Falls, I can see and feel it. These two characters Katie and Asher are by far my favorite in the series so far. The love Katie has for Asher is beyond most love stories. She's devoted to help him. Asher is definitely going through some things and you feel every emotion the two have in this book. Katie never gives up on wanting to help her friebd, and that love is palpable. This book is definitely a book I will read over and over. Stella captures something in her writing that is so real, something a lot of writer's fall short on. Love this book and can't wait for more!
The friendship that bound us together for so many years has evolved into a raw desire that I can’t deny.
Characters- What did the characters do? H is ex-military h works at the Mayers office
Favorite part- *These books keep getting better and better *I loved that they were friends first, and getting to see some of that throw memory was nice. *I like that he didn’t magically get better.
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! Stella James did it again! By far, my favorite of the Blue Falls Series! Asher & Kate have such a sweet caring love that grabs your heart, and you can't help but cheer them on!
I could not be anymore in love with all things Blue Falls or Stella James.
I have loved each of the books in this series, but this book, Kate & Asher's story, would have to be my fave of the 3 full size books.
This could be that as the 3rd book, I'm already in love with each of the residents of Blue Falls, so I went into it feeling like I was back with old friends. It could also be that I just love anything Stella James writes. However, I think it's mostly that this story is just so heartbreaking & heartwarming in equal measure that I devoured every word.
As I suspected, from seeing the teasers & reading the snippet at the end of Clipped - A Blue Falls Novella (BTW, this is my favourite novella of all time!), this book has ALL THE FEELS - and I rode them all.
The way Stella blended who they were in the 'flashback memory' moments with who they'd became in their years apart & then with how they were trying to find their way to be together in the present was just seamless & cleverly done.
It was raw & real, so you couldn't help but feel what both Kate & Asher were going through.
The sex was scorching hot & their desire for one another was explosive.
I totally understood Kate 'falling into the bubble' & not wanting to look too deeply outside of it - the fact is, love will make you blind.
My heart broke for Asher & even though at times I wanted to shake him, I loved that he never came across as weak, or annoyingly woe-is-me in trying to overcome his demons.
The epilogues were divine & the bonus epilogue was totally the cherry on the sundae; you didn't need it to complete the story, but having it there made it that much sweeter. Sigh & swoon.
Not sure how its possible, but this series keeps getting better with each book!!! Worth the Fight is definitely Worth the Read!
Not sure what to say other than I am completely in love with this book and is, in my opinion, the best one yet of the series. The story between Kate and Asher is so well written. I have a weakness for strong well-rounded women characters and Stella James does not disappoint with Kate. She's fierce, suborn, and independent but at the same time caring, loving and compassionate and Asher is at a point where he is broken and fighting demons from his past that he needs the strength of Kate to pull him through. The range of love that these 2 share throughout the years of childhood to adulthood is so beautifully portrayed, you feel it to your core. The sex is off the charts, that you'll find yourself yelling yes, yes, yes and the times of turmoil will have you shedding tears.
The ending and epilogue are sweet and endearing and will have you falling in love with Kate & Asher even more than you are already are!!!
Looking forward to what is to come with the Blue Falls series. Great writing Stella James!!!!
After reading the rest of Stella's series, I literally couldn't wait for this one! Asher and Kate's story is absolutely my favorite.
We meet Kate after her long time strictly platonic bud Asher has been injured in the war. A broken man comes home, and Kate decides she is the one who will reach him and put him back together again. Along the way, new feelings begin to wind between the two, changing their life long relationship forever.
Not only was there plenty of heat and passion, there was heart ache, angst and lots of frustration as these two maneuvered their relationship. I was all in right away, and that speaks of Stella's writing talents; I was in before this book even started because I learned enough about each character in previous installments that I wanted more. Bravo.
I got super frustrated with the characters at times, but I willed them to work things out. It was such a good story and layered with such great human touches. I loved it and of course, look forward to the next Blue Falls installment!
I loved Asher and Katie's story so so much!! It was so sweet and endearing and sexy and hot! I cannot do this book justice.
This is one of those books that tugs on your heart strings. I loved every single word the was written. Stella James captured all the right emotions in her writing. Asher and Katie's story felt so real, my heart melted with them, broke with them and fell in love with them!
I was already in love with Blue Falls and everything in it and it was so great to see couples from previous books!
Once again Mona is so fricking awesome! I love her strong love for others! I cannot wait to meet her sister read her story!!
I highly recommend this book or any book by Stella James! Trust me, it's worth it!
Do you know that feeling that you get when you read a story and it's like being in the company of good friends? You're happy, have a smile on your face and you're curious to know how everyone has been? Well, that's exactly what it felt like for me to read this book. Stella James has written a series where you can't help but love each any every one of her characters, who all in live in this beautiful place called Blue Falls. • This books focuses on Asher and Kate's story. I just loved these two from the beginning. There's just something about a broken character that just draws me in and intrigues me. I loved their chemistry and their storyline! Who doesn't love a military romance? • It is a pleasure to read anything that Stella James writes. Highly recommend this series!
I absolutely loved this book! I really want to live in Blue Falls :). The connection between Asher and Katie is sexual, loving, hot and sometimes you just want to tell Asher to pull himself together :). Another great book from an awesome author! Definitely worth 5 big fat stars *****
Frankly, I thought this was terrible. Just terrible. The way that his PTSD was 'managed'? Awful. But, sadly... my biggest takeaway from this... was the following:
I glimpse back at the bar as I make my way through the dwindling party and I’m surprised to see that Asher is no longer sitting alone. A cute blonde waitress now sits on his lap. He’s leaning in close to her and she’s giggling at whatever he’s whispering in her ear.
“Asher?” He looks up at me with glassy eyes and not even a hint of remorse. “Who’s your friend here?”
He looks at the young woman and then back to me and shrugs his shoulders. She at least has the civility to look embarrassed. She removes herself from his lap and quickly retreats back to wherever she came from.
“Katie, you really need to pull that stick out of your ass and have some fun once in a while, you know that?” His words are slurred and laced with contempt.
“Let’s call it a night, I’m done here anyways,” I reach for his hand but he pulls it away. The action feels like a slap across my face.
What are we supposed to get from that? Cos, the only thing that I got was that he was an absolute dick... and if I had been her... he could've fucked right off to Fuckville in the country of Fucktonia.
Seriously, this is so far my fav book of the series. Kate and Asher have such a connection, that literally no words are needed.
Asher enlists after highschool and leaves his old life behind. knowing the risks he does it for him and him alone. but still keeps a small part of his old life with him always.
Kate, nerdy, organized and determined, finds herself working for the mayor right after highschool and lives a very ordered life. Unless she is with Asher.
When Asher is returned home, broken, and injured he is no longer whole in anyway. It takes one final push to show him he needs to better and fix not only his broken heart, but hers as well.
A little more serious and heart-wrenching but a lovely story.
Katie and Asher have been best friends since they were 5 years old. He enlisted after graduation and has spent the last 9 years serving and traveling the world. When he's injured in the line of duty, Katie goes with his parents to see him overseas. Due to burns he has to have multiple surgeries. He drops into depression and tells Katie to leave.
Once he returns home 6 months later, Katie tries to help him heal. They eventually become lovers but Asher is hiding within himself.
This is my favourite book out of the series so far. This is Kate and Asher's story. They have been friends since they were five and after serving for 9 years in the military Asher is discharged and sent home after being injured in a roadside bombing. Asher is literally drowning and is struggling to come to terms with his life and what he has lost. Katie wants to save him but Ash pushes her away. Their story moved me to tears and had me connecting with these characters the most out of the Blue Fall residents. This book is an absolute five star read.
This story is my FAVORITE of the Blue Falls series! This story pulls at your heartstrings and will bring tears to your eyes! The story of Asher and Kate is beautiful and gut-wrenching, Stella James broke my heart and put it together again. I never read a book about PTSD before and it broke my heart. I loved Kate at how she wanted to help her childhood friend out of the darkness, through the help of some family and friends his hope started to get stronger and stronger and the ending was beyond beautiful!!!
This was the 3rd book in the the Blue Falls series. I have read each one and have enjoyed each one but this one I have to say was my favorite. It is the story of Kate and Asher who have been best friends since they where 5 yrs old. They were separated when Asher decided to join the service after he graduated from high school. After 10 years of being apart an injury brings Asher back to Blue Falls and that is when the friendship they have always had turns into a romance. I love how Katie never gave up on Asher, who is dealing with PTSD, and knows her determination to stand by him will eventually break down his walls and will bring them back to the way they once were. Little did she know it would turn into much more. In true Stella fashion, this was a beautiful love story that had you on an emotional roller-coaster ride. The sex scenes were intense and plentiful. Stella gave us insight to their lives during the 10 year separation and also allowed us to see how tight they were growing up. I sooo loved how their other friends from the first 2 books made their own appearances and our girl Mona popped in as well and as always had me laughing at her spit fire personality. I completely enjoyed this book like the others but just the obstacles and perseverance these two went through alone and together just had me really loving this book just a little bit more..A must read either with or with out reading the first 2 Blue Falls books.
I am so in love with Stella's latest addition to the Blue Falls series! Kate and Asher's story is so raw and emotional and executed in a perfect fashion. Stella did such an amazing job capturing the feelings in their story, I was sincerely emotionally involved with these characters!! Kate is a strong, persistent, no bullshit kinda gal and that is just what Asher needs right now, someone to bring him back to the light and make him see the good in the world after a horrific tour of duty. Stella certainly created the perfect hunk of man meat with Asher. I am now haunted by thoughts of a muscly, rugged and tattooed man chopping wood! The sex scenes are also off the charts hot, of course Stella never disappoints! There are also some wonderful cameos from Blue Falls locals (Mona & Cole are my fave!) to perfectly round the book out. I hate to ever have a great book end but Stella always makes it easier. By giving a glimpse into the characters future I leave the book feeling warm and fuzzy inside. Every book in this series gets better and better and I hope it never ends!!
Stella James and her writing are life. She will be, hands down a One CLICK Author for me.
This book. It's by far my favorite out of The Blue Falls Series. I don't know if I can explain why, I just really and truly got sucked into this book. It took me into a whole other world and didn't spit me out for a while. I made so many teasers for this book it's not even funny. Bit and pieces are still floating into my head. Scenes and lines from the book constantly flash in my mind throughout the day. Kate and Asher are my favorite couple. I need Asher. In every way possible. The man is smokin!!!
Stella, you beautiful crazy talented woman. I love you and your words.
One Click this book. One Click this Author. You won't be disappointed in this series. Your gonna laugh, your probably cry but you will most definitely fall in love with this series!!!
Firstly, I’m a huge fan of the Blue Falls Series, I’ve spent many late nights, early mornings devouring these amazing Stella James’ books and have loved each and every one of the Blue Falls family. This book is no different, Kate and Asher were childhood friends, Asher is injured and discharged from duty and comes home with PTSD and pushes Kate away. The chemistry between Asher and Kate was intense with his drive to handle his problems independently and his love, hate emotions towards Kate. The sex scenes were hot and passionate as we’ve come to expect from the delightful Stella James. I really felt for these two, Asher with his dark, damaged and addictive personality and Kate with her generous, caring and complete devotion towards Asher. Great read!
The Blue Falls Series is a collection of standalone novels and Worth the Fight involves Katie and Asher, this long awaited addition introduces us to Asher, a wounded soldier dealing with PTSD, and Katie, a character introduced in earlier books. Childhood friends who were separated for years while Asher served in the military. This story takes you on the emotional rollercoaster of a woman determined to stand by her man, and a man who needs to deal with his demons. Plenty of great scenes from Stella James and an emotional journey that shows sometimes you need to put yourself first in order to love another completely.
This was a great story, in a way I can't form words to describe how good this was . it was a food feeling. so I give a try if you are for a best friend love , a man looking to find the light in the hell his mind had put him , a woman who is strong willing and did walk through fire for her friend and love .this is a book for you .PS. good writhing to Boot
Kate and Asher have been friends since they were 5...Kate stays in Blue Falls while Asher fights a war until he is injured and returns to Blue Falls ten years later.
War has changed Asher. Life has changed them both. What will love do?
Another 5 star read from Blue Falls. Why, oh, why can't it be a real place?
