Jolly's Holiday Camp #4

Those Were The Days

Rate this book
There's seldom a dull moment at Jolly's holiday camp in high season, with the campers and staff intent on having the time of their lives. But in the middle of winter, when the campsite is shut, an eerie silence descends upon the ballroom, the big wheel at the fun fair stops turning and the swimming pool lies empty. But this winter things are about to change: Drina Jolly's daughter-in-law Rhonnie returns with her young son to oversee some major renovations that bring the holiday camp to life out-of-season. And when the summer comes, Rhonnie and the team are ready to give the holidaymakers at Jolly's a holiday to remember for the rest of their days.

Those Were the Days is Lynda Page's fourth saga set in Jolly's holiday camp. It brings the nostalgia of English summer holidays beside the seaside in the 1960s vividly to life.

There is nothing fancy about the books in the series, just good solid story about days gone by set in a traditional holiday camp. But to be honest, there is nothing more that you want from them, they are cosy, enjoyable and a pleasure to read. The descriptions are so good that you can see yourself wondering around Jolly's holiday camp with your stick of rock or ice cream. Each book in the series has an original set of dramas which unfold through the book, which always come to a satisfactory conclusion. I would recommend these books to anyone who likes traditional holiday camp stories in the 'Hi-de Hi' era.

This is the last book of the 4 part series, and I have really enjoyed the books and wish she had continued them but she hasn’t

It’s like Eastenders at a holiday camp and I enjoyed reading the comings and goings of the holiday camp Jolly’s and what went wrong and the fun they had

This last book continues that..
would definitely recommend this book and the series

Another incredible read by this author and I loved being back at Jolly’s for another season. Storyline was a rollercoaster from start to finish and I was so invested I just couldn’t put the book down. I loved the characters and the romance between Rhonnie and Ben - I just loved it so much! So sad this series is over but I’ve loved every minute of it.
