He has to kill Keleti’s cousin. But will he be thanked, or thrown off the cliff by the Warrior Queen?
Shona Husk lives in Western Australia at the edge of the Indian Ocean. Blessed with a lively imagination she spent most of her childhood making up stories.
Well to start with this is about a 110 page novella, that means I can't tell you too much about it or it will spoil it but I did read it in 1 sitting last night and was glued to the pages. I also found out this is a "sort of" series. Apparently they let several authors try their hand at the premise of a magic skeleton key that will open the door to another world where the user can step into an adventure/romance/etc and maybe come back, maybe not. I loved the idea and will probably visit some of the other stories.
OK, on with this story, Bryce Allard comes home drunk, he has been to a party in his honor after quitting the police force due to his inability to handle the guilt of one of his decisions went horribly wrong.
Queen Keleti is hoping for a miracle to save her city and after a rough start thinks that maybe Bryce can do something that no other person in her city can do, kill a Heavenly.
Needless to say I enjoyed it because it combines a bit of science fiction, a touch of fantasy, throw in a bit of romance and you have a formula for a great story, my main complaint being it was too short, I could have used a few more pages to give us a glimpse of the next few month/years. While the ending was not incomplete it did leave you wanting more or it did me . 4 Stars and highly recommended.
I'm not sure how I feel about this book, to be honest... Some parts were great, some parts hilarious but sadly, some of them were also boring or too slow-paced for me.
Warrior Queen is part of a series called the Skeleton Key. The premise of each story is that someone finds the magical key and enters a world of magic and endless possibilities, however each story is completely different from the next and each can be read as a standalone.
In Warrior Queen we meet worn out cop Bryce Allard who after a serious mistake at work decides to leave that life behind and try something new but on the night of his last day of work he somehow ends up with the Skeleton Key and is transported to Queen Keleti’s kingdom. Now I have to say Keleti rocked my world. She didn’t sound bossy because clearly she knew she was the boss and knew there was no need to overuse her power. She knew what she wanted and didn’t need to seduce it out of the hero to get it, she simply was. Because of her traditions she didn’t need a husband and there was no need for a king, so she basically could rule by herself but she was allowed to have a consort. I loved that she took that matter into her hands and decided when and how that was going to happen.
And Bryce, even though he used to be a cop, he was calm and never overbearing; never the annoying alpha that tried to overprotect "his" female. He knew his place and actually stayed out of the way when he thought it was best and help when he thought it was prudent. If anything, Shona Husk has written some of my favorite PNR/Fantasy non-alpha heroes I’ve ever read and Bryce is one of them.
The whole idea of a magical key that opened to different worlds sounded intriguing. I would have loved for all of these keys to have a very specific purpose or to have a background story to the key but that wasn’t the case or not that I know of. As it is, this book was a semi-quick read with plenty of fantasy, action, and funny moments to keep me turning the pages. 4 stars.

This is another book in The Skeleton Key series. They are nice short little reads. This one is By Mrs. Husk it is quite well written. Engaging in quite a different take on the skeleton key series the most of the books I've read so far.
This story is about Bryce and Keleti. On his last day at work at being a cop. Bryce gets a little drunk. When he stumbles home he finds a key that leads to another world. He's not quite sure what to do. Keleti’s world is a little Less modern than others. Being a cop he brings A New Perspective to the Queen's world. It takes her a little time to realize he is there to help and may have been sent by the Gods. Instead of being a spy if she first thought. He may be her only hope. For she could never kill her cousin. So he has to figure out if he can kill the heavenly. Which is something that might likely get him killed as well. But he may be willing to do just that to save her children. Off to read more books in the series check back for more reviews.

Ok I would have given this a four star review but I personally didn't care for the ending so it's a three. I liked the story to until the ending..... how could he stay knowing she was going to have to be with other men???? I didn't get it. Anyway other than that good story.
