Gemma's husband was a scam artist who took Alex for 3 million dollars. Her life was in shambles, her illustrious law career and reputation went down the toilet. She may be down, but not beaten. A job with Alex helps to get her life back on track. Too bad Alex isn't sure she's completely innocent and is determined to find out her role, if any. Along with a mysterious man who sneaks into her house at night to give her more pleasure than she's ever known, her life's looking up. While I was entertained by this story, it did lull in some places and I'm hoping that the intensity that's hinted at comes to full bloom.

Black Ink is an incredibly HAWT read.
The story follows Gemma, a desperate woman looking to rebuild her reputation after her estranged husband screwed over her life by incriminating her in his Ponzi scheme. Gemma has to start her life anew. Her husband’s illegal activities lands him in prison and poor Gemma is homeless and without a job after she has been fired from her law firm.
Gemma is desperate! Her only chance to reestablish herself is to go to the very man her husband stole from... Alexander Black. And this is where the story begins. Gemma is vulnerable and Alex wants to exploit that to determine her role in her husband’s 3 million dollars theft from Alex’s company. Through Alex’s manipulation and seduction of Gemma, she becomes unraveled...
Wow I really enjoyed this read! Alex’s manipulation, his raw seduction, the fact he wants to do “bad things” to Gemma, MAKES this book! The chemistry between these two characters IS FIRE and helps drive the plot of this story. The only reason this is not a 5 STAR read for me has to do with Gemma’s character. She is supposed to be smart. Her life is in shambles and yet in a span of a few weeks she is thrown into a lions den of players who all have some interest in her and she does little to question or investigate, something which I think should be key to her characteristic as a sharp lawyer. Between Alex, the Faceless Man, Tony (Gemma’s first boyfriend, who is in a Jersey Mafia family) and the Mystery Caller, who are all looking for something from Gemma, creates a diversion in the plot that was distracting since the signs were obvious in some parts and ambiguous in others. Gemma doesn’t recognize the Mystery Caller’s voice, and is adamant that she has no idea who he is, however when it comes to the Faceless Man, she is equally unaware of his identity even though said identity is obviously clear. Faceless Man calls her his “pet”. He is not the only man who uses the same term of endearment during his seduction of Gemma. I’m surprised Gemma hasn’t figured this out yet or even question it...
This story is told in dual POV. I love that Ms Catalano does this as it really adds to the steamy scenes between Gemma and Alex. It also creates mystery to the other players of this story since there are lots of unanswered questions, such as... who helped Malcom steal 3 million dollars from Alexander Black?
I guess we’ll find out in book two! I’m ready to dive in unravel our unknown players to this steamy seductive read!

Full review will follow but here are my initial thoughts......
I cannot believe this is the first book by N.M. Catalano that I have read, I have had a few of her books on my TBR shelf for a while now but after meeting her at AiTC last week I realized I still hadn't read her work so I dove into Black Ink and Holy Hotness Mr. Black is seriously....I really have no idea, is there anything more than an Alpha Male because that pales in comparison to his persona...he's like the Alpha of all Alpha Males ;)

I wasn't sure what to think at first, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Alex hits every alpha male note for me. He is definitely a little stalkerish, but I still loved him. The way he looks out for Gemma is nice.
Gemma, I wasn't sure how I would feel about her, but I like her. She gives it back to Alex when she needs to, which was nice.
These two have some great chemistry. I'm very curious to see where the series will go from here.

I have been desperate to read this book since i seen the first teaser, and yes, it lived up to my expectations and then some!!!
Gemma has lost everything!!! Her husband was arrested and everything they owed has been seized by the police... Now she's trying to get a job with the same man her husband stole 3 million dollars from!!!
Alexander owns Black Inc and his motto is keep your friends close and your enemy's closer!!!... Putting a plan into motion to find out certain things... He is unprepared for the feelings she brings out in him!!!
Without giving anything away... There are twists and turns that had my heart pounding, situations that had me panting and circumstances that had me screaming!!!
Ms Catalano has written another fantastic book that i couldn't stop reading once i had started!!!... I actually didn't go to bed until 4am as i was so engrossed in the story, and now, with the twist at the end... I'm absolutely desperate to find out what she has planned next... But the one thing i am sure about, is that it's going to be... Mind blowing!!!

Wonderful Dark Romance
This is dark romance with a bit of BDSM in it because of some of the 🔥 scenes in it have an overtone of BDSM to them. Otherwise it involves a Billionaire Boss and the woman who works for his company. It has several 🔥 parts to the story that I thought were excellent and a bit of a mystery as well. I am looking forward to part 2

Good story plot. Payback or love?
I am giving this first book a 3. I will break this down by bad and good.
Bad:
There were definitely some grammar errors, which always make me cringe, like "me finger" when it should be "my finger". Miss spelled words and grammar errors cause me to lose my focus and become frustrated. Another negative would be the first night Black broke in and Gemma just let him blindfold her, tie her up and " f" her then fell asleep not knowing who he was, knowing the mob is gunning for her as well as possibly hundreds of other people her husband swindled. I know this is a dark romance, but I find it better and darker when emotions like " fear" are more realistic. And finally, I am having trouble liking either character. Gemma is supposed to be an intelligent lawyer, but seems to make pretty bad choices and acts weak. Black has only shown he is powerful, revengeful and arrogant. Although I love all those qualities in the male character, I also want some redeeming qualities to latch on to.

Had to put my kindle in the freezer for a minute to cool it off! This is a hot one! Alpha male and a strong female who enjoys a bit of dominance in the bedroom. Doesn't get much better than that. Throw in a twisty story with some Mafia connections and you have Black Ink.
This is a quick read but will have you burning up with Alexander Black's dirty mouth. NM Catalano certainly can write a alpha male. Looking forward to the next installment.

Loved it!
Totally my type of book. If you like a strong alpha male and a strong female lead then this is your book. Great story line and a constant flow, couldn't put this down so now I shall wait for the next part with bated breath. An at least a 5+ star read

In this first book of N.M. Catalano's Black Ink trilogy, "keep your friends close and your enemies closer" is the premise Alexander Black uses when he hires Gemma Trudeau, the wife of the man who stole his money...a lot of money. Alexander wants to hate her, wants to exact his revenge and more importantly, wants to know just how much Gemma was involved in her husband's crimes. Did she know? Did she help? Where is his money? So, he sets things in motion to achieve his goal.
As you might expect, things are never as easy as you plan...feelings happen, secrets are hidden and pasts come back to haunt. And oh, the Faceless Man...hmmmm.
These characters are wonderfully written, complex and real. I'm excited to see where the author's journey is leading us. This is my first book by N.M. Catalano, she doesn't know it yet but she won't be getting rid of me anytime soon.

This book hooked me in from the first paragraph. Her ex -husband worse than pond scum. Gemma deserves to find her knight in shining armor .She has a choice to make will it be the faceless man who gives her what she needs and craves, or will it be alexander black her new boss. This was a great book to read it had great flow and the characters were well written.

Awesome book, I loved everything about the story. It was sexy and the storyline nothing like I’ve ever read. Gemma goes to work for Alexander. He is the man that Gemma’s husband had stolen from. Things gets interesting from there. The book does end in a cliffhanger.

First book I've read by this author. Very sexy, there is a lot of sex in this. Maybe a touch of noncon in one scene but quickly turns into full blown consensual.
Black is hot, arrogant and dangerous.
