Actual Rating: 4.25

After the shocking ending of Book 1, Seven, an eighteen-year-old girl living in a dystopian universe, has to figure out how to navigate her new life while making sure her secrets are safe.

And Jenny Lynne has done it again! This book was amazing, yet again, and I was shocked and engaged at every turn. The plot definitely had its ups and downs, and this time it followed both Seven and Six, Seven's sister. One thing I will have to admit, however, is that I felt like I was more emotionally invested in Seven's story because of everything we've read in the prequel. That's not to say that Six's story wasn't exciting - it was definitely action-packed, but I just found that I was more excited to see how Seven would handle everything that was being thrown at her.

The characters were, for the most part, the same from the previous book, although we do see a few new faces. Jenny Lynne did a great job introducing them to us and showing their personalities in a few chapters. We could really see Seven develop as the story progressed; the same could be said for Six - although I did feel a little frustrated with her actions in the beginning.

The writing style was very catchy and engaging, and it definitely moved the story along at a smooth, fast pace. With that being said, however, I did seem to notice a pattern in the writing. For almost all of the chapters, the author seemed to end the same way: one definitive sentence that felt like a cliffhanger or sounded "deep". While I absolutely LOVE this type of writing, it does seem to get a little tedious when the same writing tool appears over and over again.

Overall, I would definitely still recommend this series to everyone, especially those who like reading dystopian novels. Last time, I remember writing that the author had a great blend of more mundane, contemporary obstacles and issues that were more of the dystopian genre, and this is still extremely visible in this book, which really does set it apart from others of its kind.

Return to the Sky is the followup to Above the Sky and IT DOES NOT DISAPPOINT! I read Above the Sky in less than 24 hours and Return to the Sky received the same treatment. I once again couldn't put it down and when I unexpectedly had to go on a 4 hour car ride mid-book, I was cursing the fact that there is no audio version yet. I would have purchased it in a heartbeat, because this is a series I am positive I will be re-reading.

This book had twists and turns that I never expected and its hard to talk about any of the book without spoiling something. Everything I was so sure of in the 1st book is turned on its head, and you learn that everything is not as it seems. When I finished this book I had that "soul-satisfied-perfect-book-bliss" going on and had a hard time wanting to start another book. This is a trilogy, so there is a third book.... I'm dying to read it but also want to put it off so I don't have to see this series end.

If you love YA Dystopian Fiction then you NEED to start this series.

I received an advance reader copy of this book that I have chosen to review.

**I received a copy of this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review**

I read Above The Sky by Jenny Lynne and raved about it to all my GR friends...I was so eager to talk to the author (she reached out to me and offered me a copy of her book for a review) and tell her how much I loved it. I really wanted a sequel to come out, and Lynne surprised me by following up the book with Return To The Sky. (There's even talk of a third book, and I encourage her to write it!) During publicity for her first book, she used my review on some promotional bookmarks (which I've saved to frame), and in this book she actually INCLUDED me in the dedication. I'm a big fan of Jenny's, but I want you to know this: I am a fan of her WORK, so this review is completely unbiased.
So now that I got that out of the way, I want to say this: these books could easily be movies. They could be bestsellers. Lynne has a way of creating a story world that sucks you in and makes you feel like you can see from the narrator's POV. In this book, she goes between three different characters, and they are all distinctly different. It picks right up from where the last one left off: Seven and Six have switched places to protect the unborn baby, and Seven will have to be away from Ten for nine months (if all goes according to plan) to ensure her child's safety. In this dystopian world, you are assigned a career, and Seven was assigned a mate and profession, but gave it up to become a warrior and spare her twin sister the fate of those who go Up There to fight and never return. But something unexpected happens on the way back, and Six, the sister who we know but aren't really familiar with, ends up in more danger than she anticipated.
I refuse to give spoilers away because I know you won't know what I'm talking about unless you read Above The Sky first, and I think that if you ask Jenny nicely, you could have the opportunity to review the first book like I did. Then, when you are on the edge of your seat, dying to know what happens next, you'll have the opportunity to read book two, and not have to wait like I did for a sequel. So those who haven't read the first book will be able to continue the story and read this book...so I'm not giving up the goods because I want you to read it and see for yourself the awesomeness that is the Above The Sky series.
I can only hope that this book gets into the right hands or enough hands and people can see the shining star that this series is...with all the books out there, and especially all the self-published ones, it is rare and special when you come across an author who writes like Lynne. If you like dystopian novels like The Giver, you'll love this series.
★★★★★. More if I could give more. I'll also be first in line for the next installment, because I have so many questions, and I know that Seven and Ten's story isn't quite over yet. I recommend this to all. So go out and get yourself a copy of Above The Sky first...and once you've read that, come back and pick up Return To The Sky and see what happens next!!

Return to the Sky is the sequel for Above the Sky, and I loved both books! This book picks right up where the first book ended, so I definitely recommend reading the first book before this one. *There will be spoilers for the first book in this review*

In the first book, Seven took Six's place as a warrior, so Seven had to leave home and fight to protect her home community and Six stayed at home and was assigned a mate, and since they are twins, they assumed each other's identities without most people knowing the difference. So, Seven returns to her home place, where it is safe, but there are very strict rules and the citizens are naïve to a lot of what is actually happening in the world. Seven needs to switch places because she is pregnant with Ten's baby, and that is against the rules as a warrior, plus it is dangerous, so Seven is going to be there for 9 months, and then leave her baby with her sister, and return to Ten and the warrior lifestyle. In this book, we get 3 POV's, Seven, Six, and Ten. I liked that we get all the POV's, since all the characters have their own storylines going on. Seven is dealing with being pregnant, catching up with what her sister, Six, had going on, and she also has an assigned mate she needs to deal with. I felt really bad for Nine, her assigned mate, and I hope Thirteen comes into play more. Six hasn't been trained as a warrior, so she has to find her strength, and when things don't go as planned, she needs to find a way to survive. Ryan was along for Six's storyline, and I wasn't happy about what happened to Ryan, and how blasé everyone feels about mating. Ten is trying to find a way to help Six, and he also is worried for Seven and their baby. I was hoping that our main characters would question the government more, and that would start becoming a storyline, but none of the really happened, so I'm hoping Jenny Lynne goes more into that in future books. I want the characters to get some spunk! They grew up in a way that was very sheltered and it seems like it is almost wrong for them to show much emotion, so I understand that they aren't programmed to question things, but I would think there would be someone that does. I don't like the whole government choosing mates for people and assigning people to departments without taking into consideration the people's desires, and I wanted for the characters to rebel; they all just seem to accept too much, too easily, but I still really love the characters, and there's a lot of growth for the characters to still go through, so I am definitely looking forward to see where Jenny Lynne decides to go in this series. I love the sci-fi aspect, and I like the suspense and action scenes. The romance between Seven and Ten is really sweet, and I definitely want more of them together! I'm hoping in the next book, the characters start to question the governments actions more, happiness for the side characters, and more of Ten and Seven together! There needs to be an UPRISING!

Jenny Lynne did a wonderful job picking up where Seven an Ten left off. The turmoil between all of the characters and trying to survive in worlds they are not used to is enchanting. It's really hard to give reviews withou spoilers, so I'm just going to say, get the book. You won't be disappointed and you definitely won't be bored. There is enough action to keep you entertained throughout the entire book. You also get to find out if Seven and Ten get to meet their baby and are able to be together.
Thanks Jenny for allowing me to read the sequel to your wonderful book. I wasn't disappointed before and surely wasn't this time

This book is the much anticipated sequel to Above the Sky. I absolutely LOVED this book! It is full of action and suspense and I longed for day Ten and Seven would reunite. I was screaming at the end of book one; I didn’t want it to end. I wanted to continue on this journey with these fantastic characters, so I was so excited to read the sequel. I did not disappoint! I would love to see a book with a couple of the other characters that I fell in love with. This is a must read. One-click this book now!

I absolutely love this book!!! Lynne does an amazing job keeping the same characters with a limited amount of new ones that even then are completely introduced. Through every twist and turn, it is hard not to love Six, Seven and Ten. As each character develops in their own way, the story develops and it's almost impossible to not love each character and identify with each and every one of them. Some inner plots are easily predicted, but the plot twists that accompanies all of them is enough to where it's no entirely far fetched and still keeps you on your toes begging to read one more chapter.

I loved it! I’d give it Seven or Ten stars if I could. I loved what the author did and where the story was taken. I enjoy all the characters, no matter how small. Being so busy adulting, I enjoy how easy it is to follow the plot. I love how the author didn’t let anything get in their way of making certain happy details happen because a story can only be so filled with trauma before it’s not a good escape from life. I found both of the first books to be very thoughtful, creative, and entertaining. I look forward to seeing what the third book holds.

I like how this book picks up right where the first book left off. I enjoyed it more than the first book and was very surprised on how Jenny Lynne made it work. I really didn't know how it was going to work out. As usual, the characters are their awesome selves. The book was filled with betrayal, action, and drama worth reading. I was satisfied with the ending of the pretend story told in the hospital room and the actual story. It made me hopeful for a better future to make the sacrifice worth it. The book held my attention the whole way through. I'm not really sure what else to say. I really thought it was well put together.

Oh what can I say?? I looove this story. I don't want to give too much away, but the twists, and turns. The heart strings are pulled in all the right directions. With the way it ends, it is a nice clean ending, but also leaves you wanting more. To see where else the story could take Seven, Ten, Six, Nine...and all of the other characters. I would loooove to see a third installment of "the Sky" series.

Another 5 star book from JW Lynne! This isn’t your typical dystopian read. This book grabs your interest immediately and keeps you wondering what will happen next. There is a deep romantic love story, but it isn’t the only love aspect we see. There are some nail-biting experiences, sadness, deep emotions, and twists you never would have expected! I cant wait to read the next one!

I received an early copy of this book in return for an honest review.

After switching places with her sister and becoming a Warrior, Seven has found herself somewhere she never expected to be: back home. Needing to protect her and Ten's unborn child, Seven has returned to the life she was supposed to lead with her mate, Nine. But with no contact with Ten, Six or her friends from above the sky, Seven is finding it hard to readjust back into 'normal' life. Meanwhile, Six finds herself in a similar unfamiliar predicament; in a supply drone headed by the Warrior training camp. Before she has chance to settle in, an unexpected event puts the whole plan in jeopardy. With no way to contact Seven, Ten wonders if he will ever see her and their baby again, and how he will explain what happened to her sister.

I can't remember the last time I had been so excited to read a sequel, so when I finally got my hands on it I could not put it down. Once again I was completely captivated by Seven and Ten's story, and was excited to hear more about Six and her side of the story. Once again there were numerous plot twists to keep the reader interested. It answered a number of questions from the first book, while raising so many more that I am now desperate to know the answer to! I loved the inclusion of so many familiar characters, including Three, Nine, Thirteen and Seven and Ten's family back home, and I felt I was re-visting old friends each time one of them popped up. Some of the secrets these characters revealed were shocking, and it made them so much more developed which I loved. It was great to see some new characters too with the Outsiders, and I loved seeing how differently they lived to Seven and co.

The author's writing style was just as wonderful, and it was a joy to read her work; it took me less than a day to read the whole thing, again! Writing from the perspective of Seven, Ten and Six really allowed the plot to cover a multitude of different events, and I feel it helped the overall quality of the story. I loved hearing more about Six's life, her feelings and understanding of the world, so I am so pleased I got to experience the story from her perspective.

Although Seven and Ten were apart for the majority of the book, their relationship continued to grow in new ways as they dealt with real grown-up problems. I adore them together and wish they can have the happy ending they so badly want. My only want from this book that wasn't 100% fulfilled (but 99.9% instead), was finding out more about Six and Three's relationship. Although this is covered, I would love to have heard more from Six's feelings about being away from Three, but this is just me being greedy I feel! For anyone who read the first book, I beg you to read this one as I promise it will not disappoint. I would like to thank the author for allowing me to read the book ahead of its release, and I hope this isn't the last we hear from her!

AMAZING is such an inadequate description of this series...Take all of the things that make life so exciting and multiply it to the end of the world, then you might understand my love for this series.

Well built characters that readers will care about from start to finish.

I hadn't "killed" a single person during the whole test, but when I saw her like that, something inside me switched, like the turning off of a light. I started shooting to kill. I didn't care what team the other person was on. I wanted to kill anyone left in the task. As many people as I had to. I wanted the task to be over. I wanted to stop her pain. And so I killed everyone I saw, without a second thought. The first person I killed was...

A storyline created to keep you on the edge of your seat and to melt your heart, then to rip it out of your chest and to give it back to you...just not quite the same.

"They want you alive," he says, breathing hard. "They'd gladly kill me though."
"Why would they kill you?" I ask.
He doesn't answer. Instead he falls to the ground. Lifeless.
As a reader, this was definitely an "oh Sh*t!" moment.

Read this series! Take the chance. It's so worth it!

I received a copy of this book from the author, but this review is 100% true in regards to my feelings for this book. I can't stress enough that this series needs to be read and devoured. It will definitely offer that great escape which any great book does so well. Any dystopian reader will not be disappointed!

So many expectations after book one. But the mystery of what the world looks like in an apocalyptic world, did not deliver for me. Not enough questions answered at a good pace, and the direction the plot took didn't increase conflict like it could have. (See spoilers below.) Several page chapters, switching between three characters, slowed the pace as well and I lost interest and did not finish. I was truly disappointed because I felt there was a lot of potential, especially where conflict between characters could have been much tougher, but resolved easily. Characters were often much too understanding and kind. This made them lackluster in drive and motivation, as well as making their voices similar.

Spoilers: I wanted to know why there is a war, why these kids are chosen and trained to fight. And then we are told that they may not even fight? That really they are needed for their minds...after all the time I spent reading about their physical training? That frustrated me a lot. When they get a glimpse of outside, all we get us crumbled buildings. And then Seven is pregnant? That was a surprise because it wasn't even clear to me that she and Ten had sex. "Losing control" can mean a lot of things. Then she goes back to her box of a home, which feels like a step back in world building, especially when the relationship with Nine isn't as conflicted as I feel it could have been. He's too nice. Too accepting. Then Six is a prisoner forever, repeating the same routine with this boy Jose. And Ten is repeatedly trying to figure out how to help rescue her, but it drags on too long, which too quick if change between characters where not much happens.

This is the second book in a dystopian series.

The second book takes off right away where the first takes off. I won't really give a synopsis as you can easily read one on the main page or in other reviews.

I really enjoyed this novel. It moves quickly, the story line is compelling.

The narrative is still told in the first person, but the perspective changes with each chapter. I'm not a huge fan of the first person perspective because it seems a bit restrictive. This shifting of the narrative from character to character solves most of that.

This series is every bit as captivating to me as the Hunger Games and Divergent series. If you enjoyed them, I don't think you'll be disappointed with this series.

Thank you Jenny Lynne for the opportunity to read your book. I loved the first book, and I have to say that the second book was amazing as well. I loved that I got to get into the minds of not only Seven, but also Ten, and Six. I thought there was a lot of action and that it was fast-paced. The story was interesting and I love that the book picked up right where the last one ends. The characters were amazing as well. I thought the plot twists and the way the book flowed was great. I hope the series continues this way. Overall, an incredible read.

Second installment in a great YA dystopian series. It continued exactly from where the first book left off and definitely didn't disappoint. The author's fast paced style gets you caught up in the action , in the characters' emotions. There is never a dull moment.
The first book was more Seven and Ten's story and their life 'up there'. After Six and Seven swap places back again to protect Seven's pregnancy , we learn more about Six and her relationship with Nine. Six gets her own adventure which changes her and brings another character into play, the Outsider Josè. It doesn't, however, answer all our questions about each reality. I hope these are answered in the third book which I can't wait to read! Anyway, the story sort of goes full circle again with Seven having given birth and back with Ten and the other warriors. On the other hand, Six returns to her 'box' and life with Nine. Will be interesting to see how the story progresses in the final part of the trilogy.
highly recommended for those who have read other dystopian series such as 'Divergent' and 'The Hunger Games'.

I was pretty excited for this one after finishing the first book. But this one felt too flat compared to the first one.

Although, we got multiple points of view (Six, Seven and Ten), nothing much was happening in two of them. The story dragged on forever - Six and Ten, repeating pretty much the same routine everyday. It started feeling repetitive after a certain point.

There was no addition to the world building. We didn't get to know the kind of war that is happening or anything much about the Outsiders. The glimpse offered of the outside world could have been elaborated further.

It's good when the first book of a series fills you with questions but not having even of them answered properly in the second is a letdown. I'll be finishing the series for the sake of it though and in the hope of finding the answers.

Okay, I really enjoyed the first one, but this one dragged forever it felt like. Seven whole months of a whole lot of nothing actually going on? They barely learned anything new or faced any real challenges. The suspense and the constant feeling of dread from the first book was not present here. Also, because of the time jump, the new romance feels realllly shoved in and rushed, and as a result I don't feel it at all. I'm also starting to get super frustrated with how useless Six is constantly being, almost jeopardizing the missions every time. Really hope we'll finally get the answers and some government toppling action in the third book.

Binging on this well-written (though at times cheesy book, expectedly so). This second installment to the series introduces viewpoints written from several of the characters and doesn't fall into the second book mediocrity trap that's can be common on YA series novels. Great character development continues as there is less action in this compared to the first book.

wow

I liked getting Six's point of view along with Ten's. I hope that Six eventually remembers her time with Jose and does something to help him and his people. I really hope that Nine gets his happily ever after with thirteen, he deserves it. Nine is so kind and understanding. I wish there were people like him in real life. Ten and Seven's love for one another is beautiful.
