I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

It keeps getting better and better! In this second book of the Alpha Underground series we get a little more insight into Fen's past and why she has reservations about being committed to her mate, Hunter, and how she is dealing with being packless.
She hasn't heard from her parents in over a decade. They left her with her pack when she was only 9 years old. So when she receives a letter from her mother telling her that her father has died and requesting she attend the funeral she has some reservations. Hunter convinces her to go but once she catches sight of the mother she thinks hates her, she flees. The next morning she wakes up to find that Hunter is gone and has left her a rental car with the coordinates to where her mother lives. It's time to face her past.
Even before she finds her mother things start going wrong. Someone is stalking her, she needs to find a rogue halfie who has already shifted, and she can't get ahold of Hunter. Then she finds out her mother has been receiving death threats.
There are so many twists and turns in this book you'll be left with whiplash! Not everything is as it seems and I was completely shocked to find out the truth, just as Fen was.
Such a great ending to this book. Can't wait for the next one!

At least the beginning of the book got a little more to the point, but towards the end, it was painful! It took 3-4 paragraphs to get more than 10 seconds ahead in the characters story! It's fine when authors do that every now and then but completely annoying when it happens for chapters on end.

Great read (and I really love the cover). Characters are likeable and you want to pull for them and the story line moves at a steady, page turning pace. Check it out

Lone Wolf Dawn Book 2 of the Alpha Underground trilogy by Aimee Easterling Lone Wolf Dawn Book 2 of the Alpha Underground trilogy by Aimee Easterling continues where Half Wolf stopped. I gave it four stars.

The protagonist, Fen, just found out her father had died. She's without a pack and wants a human life now.

"L is for love. And for laughable, lost, and—ultimately—lonely.

Twelve years ago, I said the L word one last time...and was promptly tossed to the curb for my efforts. After learning that lesson the hard way, I definitely wasn’t planning to backslide into stupidity anytime soon."

Fen is upset at the pending reunion with her family. "At the moment, Hunter was right. I was more concerned about the unwanted family reunion I’d been invited to attend. “I don’t really see why I have to go,” I whined, then paused as the tone of my own voice hit my ears. I sounded like a teenager, not the world-weary twenty-one-year-old I professed to be. Still, didn’t relatives bring out the worst in all of us? 'You have to go because you’ll regret it if you don’t,' my mate answered, turning down a tree-lined lane leading to a lush and vibrant green space."

She was tense and nervous about meeting her 'one-body' mother who had abandoned her when she was nine.

I received a complimentary Kindle copy from the author. That did not change my opinion for this review.

Listened to this story in the Boxset for this series on Audible. Narrator sounds too exuberant most times; she needed more tone variance to fit the scenes better. She sounded like a newscaster at times. It was an okay listening experience, but not on my list of favorites.

Loved the sweet connection between Hunter and Fen; it’s wonderful how supportive they are of each other. The action is fun, and the story feels unique. Love that Fen is strong and has some sass. She’s having to deal with a lot and doesn’t have much support at times, but she showing she’s a force to be reckoned with. The shifters act a bit more like wolves than humans; I would’ve like it to be the other way, but there’s some interesting ideas with these shifters. I do think some of the character’s reactions don’t quite fit the situation going on. Everything feels like it’s comical; nothing seems serious, there would be something dangerous happening but I wouldn’t care because it just seems like a joke. That may have something to do with the narrator for the audio; if I read it on my own, the characters may have a different tone to their voices that fits the situation better. Overall, an entertaining, fun read, and I’m excited for the next book!

Lone Wolf Dawn is Aimee Easterling's 2nd book in her Alpha Underground Trilogy. Fen and Hunter are working to save as many bloodings as they can. They hope to give them a safe place to stay and to learn to be proper werewolves, including heeding the dangers such a life brings. Fen must also decide if she is ready to confront, and possibly befriend, her mother that walked out of her life twelve years ago taking her father with her. Changes are happening rapidly. They want to pull their ragtag group of shifters together and make a bid for pack status. Can they manage this in time? Will it be enough to grant them the indepence they so deeply crave?

The storyline is fast-paced, well written and easy to read. It is filled with danger, lore, intrigue, politics and mayhem. The characters are well developed and endearing. I particularily like the bloodling pups. I can't wait to see how this trilogy ends!

Fen left behind her pack to confront the family that seemingly abandoned her years ago. Leaving Fen insecure, untrusting and with a big hole inside. Along the way Fen and Hunter team up to save the lives of many Bloodling pups. Their bond grows stronger but Fen still keeps part of herself locked away. Misfortune befalls Fen as she finds herself the prime suspect of a criminal investigation. With danger lurking around every corner Fen has to work quickly to figure out who the real perpetrator is and why they are after her mother before it’s too late.
I liked Lone Wolf better than the first book. Fen’s character grows quite a bit in this part of her journey making me like her so much more than before. I also liked how the relationship develops between Fen and her mother. The ending was just the beginning for Fen and her group. I look forward to continuing their journey in the next book.

Fen is trying to put her life back together after splitting from her pack. Hunter, her mate, also leaves her after they've rescued a group of shifters kind of stuck in their wolf form. She's on a mission to locate her long lost mother, only to run in to one danger after another once she finds her.

I didn't like this one as much as I did the first one, but it was a good story. As strong as Fen is as a character, I thought she came across kind of whiny. Her emotions are put thru the wringer, and I know that's why I came up with this impression. She is a great character that faces lots of trials & tribulations, and she does finally except what all fate has thrown at her. This is an easy 4 stars.

Rouge bloodling werewolves, FBI agents and half-bloods, oh my...

What a mix! We're definitely not in Kansas anymore Toto! When Fen and Hunter bust a puppy mill to rescue 3 bloodling pups, they learn the whereabouts of at least 20 more ranging in age from a few months to 20 years. The resulting search and rescue of those bloodling werewolves turns into a harrowing trip to death's door. Excellent writing, characters you'll fall in luv with and a storyline that could have been ripped from the headlines, if that paper was published in a paranormal world, that is. Twists and turns that you'll never see coming. Very highly recommended.

Growth

This is a book about growth, about kids barely given a chance, who grow up anyway, soaking up useful life values from the good people in their lives.

It doesn't end there. They have become the "good people" for a whole new set of kids. That they are wolves and are dealing with the cultures of both shifter and "one-body" societies does complicate things. Caring and goodness matter.

Content and rating:
The quality of writing makes this a clear 5 star book. I dropped one star because there are a couple of fairly detailed scenes of sexual intimacy. Just being honest. For many readers, such scenes enhance a story. For me, they detract from a story.

Happy Reading!

Audiobook: I enjoyed book two of the "Alpha Underground" series more than the first one. Fen struggled with the decision as to whether she should seek out her mother or not. I liked Fen more in this story than the first book. Fen went through a lot of emotional development which helped her to grow as a character. There were some surprising happenstances. I liked a new character who was introduced. I liked that Fen's romance blossomed. Angel Clark's narration was great, and her performance added to my enjoyment of the story. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review which included my opinions.

Fen is finally going to get to the bottom of why her mother and father left her behind. While getting the gist of what is really going on her mother Cecelia is in trouble. Her mate has pushed her to find out what is going on behind the scenes.

Her old pack joins her as she learns the truth of the matter. And now her pack has grown in leaps and in bounds but not withstanding someone trying to kill all of them.

Another fantastic, whirlwind of a read! I love this series of books. Fen, filled with self-doubt, finds her footing as the leader of the her wolf pack. Despite her less than alpha wolf half, she is a force to be reckoned with. If you love shapeshifter stories with a touch of romance and a whole lot of spunky attitude, these books are for you!

When she was younger, Fen was abandoned by her parents, left in the care of Alpha Wolfie. Her mother had rejected her half-wolf status and her father had left with his Mate.

Now, Fen meets up with her mother who seems to have found acceptance and love, and Fen finds that someone is threatening her mother.

The book follows the growth of a new relationship between Fen and her mother and other lost halflings.

Things are looking up for Fen and Hunter. Meeting her mother after being abandoned was not on her agenda, but happened it did. Rouge shifter mistreated by “one-bodies” love that term are being rescued making Fen miss her previous pack. The punitive Tribunal is always looking over their shoulders without benevolence to any half or full blood wolf not doing things their way. Fen is trying to stay strong with a weak wolf and her Uber alpha mate supporting her and he is so fine to boot.

I really loved the first one so I figured I would give this a go. It starts of pretty slow but picks up about half way through. I love the additions of some new characters as well as seeing some old ones. The story is good and sets it up for a third book. I did listen to this on audio. Angel Clark did a good job.

Another awesome series by Aimee Easterling. I feel to fully appreciate the story of Fen (the main character) you definitely need to read the full trilogy, or you might be left wondering why you bothered starting to read them. This story of Fen Young starts out like she is a whining child, but as the series progresses you get to understand her journey of self discovery and maturity. Well worth the read in my opinion.

I loved the twist and turns and surprises throughout the book.
The characters are entertaining and the story was better then the first book.
There was not as much immaturity and whining which I was happy about.
I am looking forward to the next book.

Feels like a different author.

I don't remember her backstory matching this. Still lots of action/fighting but with more romance than the first book. There is a new word for humans that gets used a lot. A good ending.

I liked it. I bought this second book because I was impressed by the first one in this series. It takes on the world building of other series, so you meet old friends. Her relationship to her mate is developing better than I expected. And family relations are always interesting.

Enjoyable read

I read this book because I got BOOK 1 in a compilation book and was curious enough to read more. I enjoyed reading about the start of the pack and am looking forward to learning about what happens with the rest of the pack in the next few books in the series.

The lack of realistic recovery or after effects of the fire took me down half a star, just badly portrayed. I do really enjoy the pack building aspect!

After I finished this book, I just wanted more. The characters are developing with each new book. I found the plot to be very interesting and it move along at a fast pace, and too soon the book was finished. I'm looking forward to seeing what is in the future for Fen and Hunter as they lead this pack of misfits.

What a joy to see how Fen’s maturing and her pack is growing. Hunter and Fen’s Love is growing stronger too. It’s a joy to see a “weak” wolf still growing into an awesome leader. I love how they are collecting their pack by saving “misfits” like both Fen and Hunter. I couldn’t put this book down. I also love how Fen’s mom was introduced into the storyline.

Fen and Hunter are still getting used to each other and their mate status. Fen is having a more difficult time than Hunter because she feels everyone will abandon her just like her mother did so many years ago. Adding to the problem is the funeral announcement she received from her mother Celia about her dad, wanting her to attend. Hunter is anxious for her to go and bury old hurts, but Fen isn’t sure she will ever forgive her mother. Once circumstances forces her to go, she makes the trip and finds more than she bargained for including someone stalking her mother, Fen’s own odd stalker, and her trying to rescue a halfie. Will Fen rescue both her mother and the halfie, or will she end up a casualty in a war neither understands?

This book continues where the first one in the series left off and I must say the second is even better than the first! No, you don’t have to have read the first one to read this one, but I do recommend it to know some of the backstory to make the book come more alive. Fen continues to grow as a character, more interesting characters are being added to the ones already on the canvas, and the plot continues to advance. I really like the author’s writing, and the book was engrossing from start to finish and I had a hard time putting it down. In point of fact, I read it all in one setting, going to bed way too late! The only one tiny thing that bothered me in this book was the use of the term one-bodies/one-body a little too much. However, that aside, if you like adventure with a little romance thrown in, do yourself a favor and grab this book. I highly recommend it!

Thanks to the author for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review. This same review will be posted on both Goodreads and Amazon.

Exciting and heartwarming read...

This is the second book in the Alpha Underground series, and it is a wonderful, exciting, and engaging installment that will surely capture your attention from start to finish. I enjoyed experiencing Fen’s continued evolution into a more confident and more trusting person/werewolf. Her relationship with her mother is a big part of this story and it was wonderful to see how past grievances were resolved. Her relationship with Hunter also plays a significant role in this story and, happily, it also matures into something with more substance. There is plenty of action, villainy, and intrigue along the way to keep the reader’s interest from waning. New characters are introduced, both werewolf and “one-body” (human) which will hopefully become regulars in this wonderfully entertaining series. I listened to the audio version of this book while reading along with it on my e-reader and I think that whichever format you prefer, you will be delighted. It is easy to become so immersed in the story that you sometimes lose patience with the narrator and want her to read faster but that is true of any really good story. I found the narrator’s cadence and inflections somewhat annoying at times (too much emphasis on “I”, “me”, “my”…) but felt that, overall, she did a good job. The violence is not graphic, the language is not foul, the sex scenes are steamy, and the basic story is captivating. Another winning story from this talented and imaginative author. I am very much looking forward to more from this series.

The fact that I loved the rest of the series, I knew that I would love this one as well. And I was not disappointed. I was not sure how I would feel about Fen’s mother, Celia, however I found her to be interesting.

I loved the fact that Hunter and Fen were struggling and trying to settle into their relationship. Because Fen was abandoned by her parents when she was 10 or 12 ( somewhere in there). I wanted to understand why.

I can understand Fen’s fear of abandonment by Hunter because of the fact that she was abandoned by her parents when she was young.

However, when she finally went to meet her mother, there is a bomb threat and Fen tries to defuse it only to find that it is a bobble head and that was not the only thing that happened to her that day. She has been threatened twice, to leave the town. All while Fen is trying to help a bloodling wolf who is 13 and has just learned to shift.

Then all hell brakes loose, and a fire brakes out, with a lot of bloodlings in the house. The bloodlings that Hunter and Fen had been hunting down and two humans in the house. There was some trouble getting everyone out and with the cops/news crews. They find the person who was the one threatening Ceila.

Hunter agrees to settle down with Fen and Fen tells Hunter that she loves him at last.

All in all I loved this story. It was fun to read and I had a blast. Would recommend this book to others and I would give it 5 out of 5 stars.

This was a really fun read with a nice balance of character development and action-filled plot. Sometimes the middle book in a trilogy lags a bit, but that's definitely not the case here. Lone Wolf Dawn picks up pretty quickly, and the pace stays fairly relentless. Fen has a lot of problems to solve, as well as a lot of fears and insecurities to overcome. By the end of the book, most of the major plot points have been satisfactorily resolved, while leaving plenty of tempting threads for future stories to follow. I'm really looking forward to the next book so I can find out what happens next!

I'm also really enjoying getting to know the characters in this series. They all have flaws, but most of them are caring people trying to do the right thing. They're the kind of folks I'd enjoy hanging out with.

For me, this was the epitome of a pleasure read. Quick read, no significant editing problems, not too complex, but it kept my interest and left me wanting more without feeling like I'd been cheated of a real ending.

If you like urban fantasy, give this a try. I think Lone Wolf Dawn provides enough context that it could be enjoyed as a stand-alone, but I'd recommend reading the whole series in order starting with Half Wolf so you get the full benefit of watching the characters and relationships develop.

Note that I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
