The Mountain Man #1

"Everly," he growls. "I'm claiming you as mine, right here, right now."

SILAS
I want a wife who knows what it means to live off the grid, cook my food, and keep my bed warm.

In exchange, I'll give her a lifetime of happiness in the form of my c*ck.

But d*mn, Everly's more than I bargained for and I don't think she has any idea what it means to be mine. Hell, I wanted a wife, but I'm not sure I know how to live with a woman.

EVERLY
Did I expect to be a mail-order bride at twenty-two? No. But honestly, my life could be a helluva lot worse. The agency says this Alaskan mountain man is rich, hot as heck, and willing to pay off my student loans.

I'm crossing my fingers he's everything I signed up for.

But I may be a little over my head. Mostly because I'm marrying a stranger and also because I've never dated. Period.

Clearly I have no clue how to be a wife ... but it's too late to back out now.

*WARNING: This story features a mountain man who knows exactly what he wants. And how he wants it. Don't one-click if you want a tame mail order bride story ... this is a classic Frankie Love romance ... steamy as hell with a HEA.

So I have to say that I am not in a reviewing mood.

Because it's so FUCKING hot, that well...

For realz.

And I don't even have a fucking cat.

In all sincerity though, I'm not fucking kidding.

Homie Val was not made for this weather.

I live in Southern CA, for fucks sake.

It's supposed to be all balmy breezy palm trees with the occasional overcast cloud cover for fuck sake.

Right?????!!!!!

Instead, I am sitting here trying not to think about how my inner thigh fat is suctioned cupped together in a manner that makes it impossible to think about anything other than the fact that I don't even want to walk or move because CHAFING.

description

And you know what did NOT help my sitch?

Reading this book set in ALASKA.

Where I fucking wish I was right now, freezing my inner thigh fat off like a fucking Eskimo champion.

description

But I digress.

This book.

This was my first read by Frankie Love and it was aight.

I am a sucker for the whole "mail order bride" / arranged marriage shtick and I always will be.

I like the way it was done here; however, I must say that I DID have a little trouble buying Silas as an "off the grid" kinda guy. He seemed a little too...charming and a little too "social" for someone who prefers to live out in the middle of fucking no where all by himself.

But thus his need for a mail order honey, I suppose.

Anyway, I thought this was some decent smut and a pretty good deal via KU. I can't say that I would continue with this series if I wasn't able to get it via KU (or for super cheap), but I am hoping that the series improves as it gets going.

Regardless, this was a fun little read that hit the smut spot well enough.

And with that, I'm off to stand in front of my open freezer door and then lay on the hardwood floor with my dogs.

Claimed By The Mountain Man is book one in The Mountain Man series by Frankie Love. This is my very first book by Frankie Love.

Silas Sutton wanted out of the corporate world and out of the city. So he sold his business, made a fortune, and bought some land deep in the Alaskan wilderness. He lives in a one room cabin and lives off the land, only venturing in to Anchorage about once a month for supplies. This is what he wants, peace and quiet. But he does miss the company of a woman. Someone to cook and tend the garden and warm his bed. So he enlists an agency to find him a mail order bride. He doesn’t want to bother with dating. Monique from the agency ensures him she will find him the perfect wife.

sexy mountain man:

Everly Matters and her two roommates have just graduated from college. They have stacks of student loans, no job and no where to live. After a night of a few too many drinks, they find the site for mail order brides for rich Alaskan mountain men. Everly has never even been on a date. She’s extremely shy, she fumbles for words around men.

Grizzly bear with glacier in the background. Katmai National park, Alaska.:

When Everly and Silas first meet, they are both completely enamored with each other. But once Silas brings Everly back to his cabin, she’s shocked at the tiny living space out in the middle of nowhere. The only way in or out is by plane. She thought he was supposed to be rich. Not that money matters that much to her but she expected at least a decent house.

Silas is angry that Everly doesn’t like his cabin or way of life. He wants her to stay but if she’s not willing to live out here his way, then he’ll have to take her back.

hands on sheets:

This was of course an over the top fun little romance which is exactly what I thought it would be. Silas was pretty stubborn but I tried to see it from his point of view. He told Monique from the agency exactly what he wanted in a wife. And poor Everly. She was not prepared at all for this kind of life.

In the end, of course, Silas figures out what is really important as does Everly. So if you want a sexy mountain man and the mail order bride especially just for him, then you will love this. I look forward to the next book in the series, Ordered By The Mountain Man, which will be Everly’s friend, Delta’s story, and the mountain man that was chosen just for her.

3 -sign me up to be a mountain mail-order bride- Stars

I wasn't a fan of the h's materialistic and poorly veiled, gold digging attitude. What was worse, was that the h truly didn't think she was a wealth chaser at all, however, ALL the signs pointed to her signing on, to marry a millionaire MOUNTAIN MAN, then threaten to leave him, because she saw his small cabin and assumed he was poorer than a millionaire and yes, she couldn't believe that she actually married a *gasp*... MOUNTAIN MAN that wasn't a millionaire... Dun dun duuuuunn!!! But hey, in the end she got her mansion and his wealth, so it all ended well... for her anyway... Sigh... I truly believe that the H drew the short end of the marriage stick on that one.

But all in all, a quick, enjoyable and entertaining read with a hot, straightforward and "no bullshit" hero who gave good mountain man smexing. Jewelsy likey that very much!

Told in dual 1st person POV and standalone story in a series. Has a brief HFN at the end that cuts off after the conflict resolution with no epilogue. I'm sure I'll see more of this couple in the next books, so I wasn't too fussed about that. Thanks to my Delight Special gal Laura for this rec! It delivered and met every requirement for my checklist of short, fun, smutty reads and I will definitely be continuing with the other books in this series :)

Not as romantic as I expected.

Before reading this book, I really thought it was an insta-love story with an alpha mountain man who was extremely possessive toward a sweet virgin heroine. But apparently, I was mistaken. It turned out to be something different from my expectations. The first half of the book was quite interesting, but the second half was an inch away from disaster. The ending was good but way too abrupt.

**Spoiler alert!

Silas Sutton lived in the mountains far away from civilization. He wanted a woman to warm his bed, cook his food, and help him on his garden, a woman who wanted to make a life with him in the wild, so he contacted The Modern Mail Order Bride Service in hopes that they would match him with someone who met all his requirements.

Everly Matters was fresh out of college with no job, no family, and no place to live, so she and her two best friends signed up to be mail order brides. Then she flew from Portland, Oregon, to Anchorage, Alaska, to meet her future husband.

Ahh…and here I thought something romantic was about to happen…

BUT…the story proved me otherwise.

Silas wasn’t who I thought he was. Of course, he could be sweet and considerate at times, but mostly he was a jerk. He felt sexually attracted to Everly, his mail order bride, as soon as he saw her at the airport, but I could feel that he didn't seem to care much about her. When they got back to his cabin, she was so shocked by how inadequate his place was. She never expected to live in a shack, in the middle of nowhere.

At this point, I had some hope that he was going to try to assure her that everything would be alright and he would take good care of her. But damn, I was even more shocked than Everly! He simply told her that he only wanted a wife who was willing to live this life here with him, and if she thought what he had wasn't enough for her, he would flew her back to Anchorage in a week. He didn't care that she wanted an annulment. Hell, he didn't even try to convince her to stay. And when she gave him the silent treatment, he just got out of the cabin and worked in the woods all day. Seriously?

"Well, this is what I have to fucking offer you, Everly. Take it or leave it."

Jerk.

At first, Everly looked ok for me though socially awkward heroines aren't my thing. As I read further into the story, I secretly hoped that she could eventually give him some lessons. Unfortunately, it didn't happen at all. The man was too damn hardheaded!

Thankfully, Silas could redeem himself near the end of the book. Even though the thing that made him come to his senses didn't please me much, at least I got a little of something I wanted.

One last complaint about this book is Everly. As the story progressed, her character became more and more far-fetched to me. It’s hard for me to enjoy characters I can’t connect with. Honestly, I couldn’t care less about her!

Despite the fact that my review might sound negative, I wouldn’t say this book was all bad. It was just meh and not to my taste.

It's just okay.

Everly, Delta and Amelia have just graduated college and they find themselves jobless, penniless and soon to be homeless. You could argue they should have put a little more thought into what jobs their actual degrees would lead to but anyway they have degrees in English Lit, Hospitality and Fine Arts respectively.
Drunk and desperate they find their answer
WANTED: MODERN MAIL ORDER BRIDES FOR ALASKAN MOUNTAIN MEN.
And so they apply.
This the first in series is Everly's story.
Silas is a millionaire and two years ago he sold his company and moved to the Alaskan Wilderness the only thing missing from his life is a wife and so he sets about correcting that.
Everly is shy and uncomfortable around men so it takes a lot of courage to go and meet her husband-to-be and he's so much more than she expected but she's no idea what she's in for.
Now Silas may like living in a shack in the middle of nowhere but it's a lot to expect his wife to do the same and my problem with him was he just didn't seem very understanding or compassionate about the life he expected her to live from now on.
While these two are incredibly attracted to each other and sex is hot is it enough to make the marriage work?
This is an okay read and it goes pretty much as expected.

Guess this author is just not for me personally. The way the hero expected her to just be ok in a cabin in the woods all winter long with only herself to play with while he played the part of Daniel Boom was just nuts. I am so sorry that life is something you want to change and runaway from but most of us woman with e-readers don't want to be without. This was not a bad story. It's cute but just not for me.
For those who want to get away from it all this is an ok book. But living in Canada it's cold enough and isolated enough that even I would have trouble with no one around ever!!! I will not say how it ends but the fact that he was pissed off at her for not falling at his feet when they got to his "cabin" made me sooo MAD.

Just not my thing I don't even watch survival shows or Alaska: the last frontier. But if you do then this is your book.

Low angst, sweet and sexy mail order bride story set in Alaska. Instalust but slow build love between lumbersexual, confident alpha H and uber-shy book-nerd virgin h. Both of them were easy to empathize with and h was very likeable.

This is the first book in the Mountain Man series. Each book in this series is a short story that is full of sex! Actually, this reminded me a lot of Alexa Riley's work with the insta-lust/love as well as being a short read. My only complaint would be that the hero in this book came across as a little too cold at times. Things ended up ok, but I didn't get butterflies the way I usually do in a romance. I felt like there could have been more of an emotional connection created between Silas and Everly.

I loved the concept of this story though, I though it had so much potential; which at times felt like it fell a little short. I did enjoy it to a point though. Silas has put in his order for a mail order bride to be sent to the Alaskan wilderness to live with him forever. Heck, an Alaskan Mountain Man who is hot, rich, sexy.....sign me up!!!! Everly, the heroine; also decided to sign up for him. The trouble is, when she gets to his cabin in the woods, she realizes she might have bitten off more than she can chew. Everly hadn't realized that Silas actually lives off the grid, and his cabin is not the home of a millionaire. Will she decide not to marry him? Or will his sexy bed time skills change her mind??

If you are looking for short, smutty, and sexy read; this is worth checking out! I liked this one enough to continue on to the next!!

warning; if you dislike unrealistic romance stories (but I mean come on, most are) this is not the story for you. But if you're looking for a little bit of lusty romance, you continue on my friend.

This is the second book in this series that I have read and it was exponentially better than the first book but I felt like the whole story was a little too short—and dare I say it, not angsty enough. The only angst throughout this story was She was so immature, I would have never pegged her for character in her mid-twenties, she honestly seemed to have the thought process and emotional levels of a teenager.

The whole story revolved around Everly being so desperate for financial security that she signs up to be a modern day mail-order bride. But for a girl who claims to not be a gold digger, she comes across vain and immature. When she is lead to believe that her millionaire husband lives in a backward cabin with no look of wealth she suddenly doesn't want to live or stay married to Silas, all the while claiming it's not about money. Okay honey, whatever helps you sleep at night but I don't think many people will be falling for that line.

Everly was one of the most immature characters I have ever read about, she was petty and down right annoying. If the female lead had had a better personality I feel like this story would have been so much more enjoyable, especially because I loved Silas' character so much.

I am literally addicted to anything Alaska related so I feel like my rating might be a little better than the content warranted because I loved the setting and the nature description so damn much. I am going to continue on with this series because I feel like there is some potential with the overall plot, and hopefully with better characters another story will meet my expectations.

Few months ago I even didn't know what Mail Order Bride means. I searched up and founded this. This is very interesting article and based on that I seriously wonder how many of those 'brides' actually found their happily ever after.

Anyways so this is the story of 3 drunken and broke friends who sign up for mail-order bride service thinking they will have a 'loaded' husband to take care of them and their problems.

Basically, if you ask me that's just plain stupid and extremely lazy but I guess that is type of people who sign for this type of services. But I am not expert and I don't want to dwell on 'reasons' or 'feelings' for the said person. Each to their own and blah blah blah....

After initial attractions (read s*x here), the real problem begins for Everlyn and her 'husband' and they work together to solve and had their forever after or whatever. It was nice premise to explore the old theme with modern twist but I didn't work for me. So it turned out to be a weekend binge, 2 hours of entertainment like watching some boring reality TV show and then curse yourself later why you did that to yourself but as I'm not getting those 2 hours back....well at least I even can't say I enjoyed it. It was really OK and the worst part I still want to know what happens to rest of Everlyn's equally boring friends....*Sigh*

Eh, it was okay.

Claimed By The Mountain Man was another new series by Frankie Love. I think I've only finished one of her. Or maybe it was a standalone and I just started a bunch of series by her. Who knows - but I did like it. I just wish.. it had substance - ya know?

In it, you will meet Silas and Everly. Eh, they were okay but Everly just annoyed the crap out of me. Yes, I loved Silas and all his alpha-ness.. but Everly needed to calm down and get off her high horse. He was no where beneath her and she needed to stop being a smidge snobby. Other than that, it was still an okay book. I honestly don't think a lot happened other than things being insta-y.

Overall, I could see myself diving into the next book of this series if it's free and on audible. Or KU - not really picky lol.

This was a mostly average read.
My main issue with this was the lack of trying between main couple- both of them kept judging each other and giving up and I was not happy.
The sex scenes were well written- but the ending was so abrupt.

Light average read. I had to agree with another review that h did act like a brat when she initially saw her new home. I guess I understand her apprehension since she was blindsided with her new life. I think it had great potential if it had been longer. I wonder if her two friends will have a story. I am curious about their experience. It was a good read for my lunch break at work. Not heavy or angsty. No cheating, no ow/om drama, hot sex scenes. I was very disappointed that there was no epilogue whatsoever. That will always knock away a star in my book.

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this story for what it was. It was a short read about a mail-order bride moving to the isolated mountains of Alaska with a mountain man. Everly did not get what she thought with this remote cabin surrounded by woods. And Silas thought he was getting a woman that wanted to live that isolated life with him. But even though that's true, they both wanted each other. They end up with their HEA that was different than what I was expecting. No epilogue but these two will make it.

I liked this book. It was a bit different. The heroine was a bit reluctant to be a mail order bride so, while this book was insta-lust it wasn't insta-love.

I do wanna know if there will be two other books with her best friends.

"Claimed By The Mountain Man" is my first read from author Frankie Love. This novella was a fun take on the Modern Day Mail Order Bride trope. For an approximately 119 page novella with little to no character backstory, I found myself engaged in the story and liking both main characters, Silas and Everly. This is a sweet story that was not as over-the-top or unrealistic as some of the intense instalove/lust novellas I have read in the past. Usually, like many of us, I want my romances to bring out all the "feels" that make a novel worth reading. With novellas we know going in, that that is not always possible due to the novella's length. That being said, I have to admit "Claimed," had enough that I found myself disappointed when it ended. Both Silas and Everly were likable and had strong chemistry that was realistic making me want more story for them. I will definitely read more from this author and I recommend this novella to anyone looking for a sweet, sexy, fun and even romantic read with no angst and a satisfying HEA.

2.5 stars, kind of good but mostly annoying.

I honestly irked by Silas's impossible attitude. I mean, he's in need of a wife. He lives in a mountain, literally, in a cave look a like house in a mountain. Alone, surrounded by forest. And he expected the woman who's willing to be his wife without him telling her that she'll live in a secluded place, to not freaking out?!

This book has a great plot, a strong one in fact. But the way the author picture the Hero, Silas, as a mountain man who has no patience and infuriating even, is not cool. It's a major turn off and I don't like him at all. I feel bad for Everly. If I were her, I'd smack him in the head and run away.

But overall, sure I enjoyed reading this book and I can't wait to read more from this series!
