Sing is the ultimate summer read!
From the description it sounds a bit corny and that's because it is a bit corny, but that's what makes it perfect for a lazy afternoon in the sun. It was exactly what I thought it would be: quick, fun, and cute. The friendships were cute, the boys were cute, the girls were cute, and even the island was cute. I can see this being made into an adorable rom-com soon.
The plot was simple and predictable, so don't go into it expecting a ton of twists and insane drama. There weren't ulterior motives, no insane reveals that made your jaw drop - Sing just went from point A to point B and I loved that. It was so refreshing to have a straightforward standalone story with a straightforward happy ending.
I'll be honest, this was a total cover read. I fell in love with the minimalistic cover and we're still very much in love. We may even buy a house together soon.
Like many other readers, I pictured Taylor Swift as the lead surrounded by her squad.
So, put on your best sunglasses, sit under the sun, and open up Sing. I guarantee you'll soak up a good time!

I got Sing as soon as I found out about it, and I’ve been trying to read it since. I got charmed by the mention of Maine.
I started it three times and left it three chapters in, expecting it to be so good that I’d regret reading it cause I wouldn’t get the same feeling the next time I do. But now that I’ve actually read it, I can tell you that it isn’t the case.
The writing is very good, I liked the writing style. It’s wordy, and I admit that this might be an odd statement, but the writing is well paced, there doesn’t seem to be any ‘rushing to get to the fun part’ paragraphs, which are very common in YA.
The storyline, the plot, and the characters are a whole different story.
The characters are all the same. There are no typical character roles in this book. Sure there’s a hero, in the form of pop-star Lily Rose, and there’s a villain: the media (some Trump shit right there); but everyone else: Lily’s best friends, both love interests, her manager, the security guard and the driver… they’re all the same!!! You heard that right, I shit you not.
Not to mention, there are three conflicts in this book. All three happen and get resolved in two chapters, which blew my mind. Count if you don’t believe me.
There isn’t a lot to the plot either, which I liked and disliked at the same time. The plot points seem unimportant now looking back (to half an hour ago), but they were written well, so I didn’t hate it. They were, however, very boring. It’s impossible to conclude anything else: the story is fluffy and cute. But it’s not exciting. It’s not the kind of fluff that makes me jittery to find out what happens next, so I can’t put the book down.
This is vanilla fluff. Sure, there are moments. But they are public teenage couple moments, not heated behind closed doors moments. They can be longer and more private, so they’ll make the story more captivating and romantic.
The whole story seems to be based on Taylor Swift. The whole pop-star vs. media thing being banged on throughout, small island getaway, being called a serial dater, and the cover. It’s obvious. It even got the fake feminism right(if you read the book, or if you read the spoiler, you’ll probably get what I’m talking about)
There are some problematic parts in the story itself. There are two moments that bother me a lot, and I’m going to note them first, leaving the part that bothers me the most for the end. These two are specific scenes which I’ll mark as spoilers, the third one is an on-going theme throughout the book which I’ll let you research yourself. Get ready!
One: I found this very passive-aggressive. Friends shouldn’t act that way.
Two: I have trouble digesting the fact that she pushed passed it when Noel said it, but she still mentioned it at the beginning, like it’s an important thing.
From the beginning, all the way to the end, there is a common mistake making itself known. Show business isn’t presented realistically. It’s right there in the summary “pop-star flees the spotlight”. I’m ranting because this book is targeted at YA, and YAs might think that being a celebrity is as easy as it’s presented here. It’s not.
Singers don’t get to go wherever they want, whenever they want. They don’t get to act on their rash-decisions. There are things they aren’t allowed to do. No one has a clear schedule, if they do it has been planned months in advance. If they cancel something, it has consequences (like NBC firing Trump from The Apprentice and letting him host SNL and go on Jimmy Fallon after, even though they obviously hate his guts. You thought they wanted to do that?).
Singers are held by contracts that limit everything they do. From where they go, what kind of music they play, to what they eat. Don’t believe me?

Reading Sing felt like reading about a summer in Taylor Swift's life, mixed with the Hannah Montana movie. It was utterly adorable. I flew through this in one sitting. It was simple in plot and writing and I really enjoyed that about it. It wasn't trying to be anything other than a cute contemporary romance, as that's exactly what it was and it worked! There weren't any mind blowing plot twists or secrets but that's what made it such a lovely, easy, feel good read read. I loved the element of music and that, despite having a world famous singer as the protagonist, it wasn't all about fame etc. I really warmed to its cast of characters and enjoyed the relationships and friendships within this. It also had a really lovely f/f relationship which was great to see in a contemporary!
All in all this was an adorable, feel good read, perfect for if you want a pick me up! (Also perfect for anyone, who like me, can't help but love the Hannah Montana movie...)

This was a cute YA contemporary romance story about a pop star and a regular boy.
I really liked Lily in this story, she seemed like a really sweet girl and she definitely hadn’t let fame go to her head. It was sad the way she kept ending up with a broken heart though.
The storyline in this was about Lily having her boyfriend break up with her, and then going out to stay somewhere quite with her friends for a while, and unexpectedly falling for someone else. The story was light and easy to read, and the pace was just about right.
The ending to this was pretty good, without being a regular ‘happily ever after’.

I really loved this book! I wasn't really sure that I would but I had so much fun reading this book!
I thought the concept was really different and interesting. I loved the characters so much! I thought Lily was really likeable and relatable, even though she's a famous singer.
I read this in pretty much one sitting and I just really loved it. I can definitely see myself rereading Sing.

I downloaded this one on a whim. It's not normally the type of thing I would read, but I liked the Taylor Swift-y cover and the promise of a swoony local boy.
Lily is okay as an MC. She doesn't seem to be decisive about anything and I struggled to relate to anything about her. She sort of throws money at everything, but it slightly makes sense. I was a little disappointed to see that there wasn't much growth. Or at least it didn't feel like she has changed. The words were there, but they lacked emotion.
The plot line was decent, but I wasn't captivated. Lily's relationships are weird and maybe that's how it really is. The ending is mildly satisfying, but I would have liked something more concrete.
Overall, it was a quick read that I'm sure a lot of people will love. For me, it was definitely missing something.

I read some reviews on this book and to me they were a little harsh. But everyone does have different taste. I absolutely loved this book and so glad she chose the guy she did, I was worried! I hope Vivi Greene writes a second book. I think she has left it open to write a second.

I have so many conflicting opinions on Sing, I don't even know where to begin. The thing is, I didn't want to like this book. After reading some bad reviews and realizing that this book is basically a fanfic written by Taylor Swift about herself, I was setting myself up to hate every minute of this story. For the first few chapters, I was nitpicking intensely and trying to find any excuse to DNF this, despite how much I hate to DNF a book. But somehow I just kept reading and reading. Sing had some kind of bad reality TV effect on me where no matter how much I disliked it, I stuck around to see what would happen next.
So what was so bad about Sing?
The Lack of Feeling - Every page of this book just felt so bland, dull, emotionless, etc. Imagine how your favorite book left an impact on you like a hole in the sand. For me, Sing wasn't even enough to leave a thumbprint. This novel moved maybe three grains of sand. Tops. And that's mostly because it annoyed me.
Empty Characters - Everyone was just so boring. There was nothing special or different about anyone in this story. I mean, you have a love interest from a remote island off the coast of Maine, and he doesn't even have any interesting quirks or even a dialect for that matter! Even Stephen King emphasizes on the speech of Mainers, so clearly it's a prominent thing if a guy from there takes notice of it. I'm just saying that if anybody had even a hint of a personality I might have upped this review by one star.
Pointless Drama Due to Misunderstandings - This is such a chick flick cliché, where there is some vague misunderstanding that leads to a big blowup and heartbreak and blah blah blah I'm so bored. It cannot be that hard to write believable drama. But I guess when you have zero character in your characters realistic emotion can be hard to convey.
The Continuity - Alongside the lacking characters and the pointless drama is the flip-flopping of opinions that goes on throughout. I swear every character either has extreme short-term memory loss or they're all very, very moody. Basically, to put this as simply as possible, I've recreated a short scene here:
Lily: Omg come on tour with me?
Love Interest: No, my family, they need me.
Lily: *sad face*
*french accent* Two Hours Later
Love Interest: Hey, I'm coming with you on tour. My family is fine without me.
Lily: Yay!
End Scene
This same situation happened way too many times, where somebody would change their mind for no reason and act as if this second opinion was what they believed all along. It was just annoying and unnecessary.
Was there anything good about Sing?
Well, Lily Ross presented some decent character development... But the book ends right at her realizing what she needs for herself, so who knows how long that really lasted, because we started with her having the same revelation, and we see where that led.
If I weren't the way that I am I probably would only have given Sing one star. But the hopeless romantic in me was rooting for Lily to finally find the one, boy-crazy, obsessive me was like wow, #relatable, and the pessimist in me was just dying to see Lily crash and burn and have her heart broken twice in one summer. These sides of me were satisfied, but bookish me unfortunately was not.

I had a really fun time reading this book! Even though it was a little bit cheesy and predictable at times, I feel that it was a very fun, quick read, perfect for the summer time!
On the down side, I think there were a lot of things missing out, plot-wise especially, and that's why I couldn't fully connect with the characters like I wanted to.
Overall, although this book has its flaws, I really enjoyed my time reading it, so if you like cute silly contemporaries, I would recommend this one!❤️

I read this in one sitting.
It was absolutely wonderful and has earned a space on my ultimate faves shelf.
The romance is beautiful and this is the perfect summer read focusing on a popstar who wishes to take a break from the limelight. As you can imagine, it's not as easy as she once thought.
I have been singing myself for 11 years now and so I can sympathise with Lily's dire need to just be creative, I felt she was very real and authentic. (Probably because I think she's based on T.Swift).
Hopefully we'll get a sequel one day!

It was absolutely wonderful and has earned a space on my ultimate faves shelf.
The romance is beautiful and this is the perfect summer read focusing on a popstar who wishes to take a break from the limelight. As you can imagine, it's not as easy as she once thought.
I have been singing myself for 11 years now and so I can sympathise with Lily's dire need to just be creative, I felt she was very real and authentic. (Probably because I think she's based on T.Swift).
Hopefully we'll get a sequel one day!

So I'll be honest, when I read the synopsis of this book I really didn't expect to like it as much as I did! I will say that it made me as happy as I expected. It had a simple plot, with some nice characters, and it would make the best watch-when-you're-feeling-down-with-a-tub-of-ben-and-jerry's-ice-cream film, ever. It kind of reminded me of the classic Miley Cyrus films (like The Last Song) and there was something comforting about that. When I put this book down I had a huge smile on my face and that's important, right?
There were a few things about the main character did that upset me. She said that she wasn't going to go and get involved with another guy, and she does. She's a bit cruel to her friends and doesn't realise the impact that her fame has on those around her but though their isn't much character development on her part, I did end up liking her a lot more as I got further through the book! .
I loved that Sing contained a lot of different types of relationships (toxic ones, loving ones, friendships, parent/child, etc) and it made the love story more interesting and helped us get to know more of the characters than just Lily. .
My favourite part of the book was getting to read about how Lily wrote her lyrics for her new album. She heard stories from where she was and developed them into these beautiful songs. It was something that I hadn't seen before in YA! .
I gave Sing by Vivi Green 4/5 stars and would recommend it to anyone who loves a good contemporary! If you're a fan of Jenny Han then this book might be for you!

I had far too many high hopes for this book, and it wasn't the book I thought it was. This was a VERY cute, pleasant, no drama, hardly any conflict summer romance story between a Taylor Swift-esque pop star (AKA MY BAE) and a normal dude. I wasn't in the mood for something to clear cut and had hoped for a *few* (read: any) more surprises and shocks. Not plot twists per se, but it was all so darn predictable which I realized
a few chapters in. Definitely a quick and easy read to add another book to your read shelf and maybe get you out of a slump, but not quite as amazing as I'd hope (read: they really put their marketing skillz to work for this book promo).

i did not enjoy this book as much as i would have liked to. i found the main character to be extremely annoying and full of herself. but i did really like the main love interest for the most part, except for one scene that i won't say anything about because i don't want to spoil anything. also, i felt that the story was extremely predictable and there wasn't really any character depth. i was going to give this book a 1 or 2 star rating but i ended up going with 3 stars because i really enjoyed reading the last chapter (it reminded me a lot of hannah montana).
i will say that this was a very quick read so if you are looking for something quick and fun, pick this book up.

This was a beautiful, gorgeous, wonderful, lovely book, and I enjoyed it so much that I couldn't stop reading it until it was late at night. :D
I just love books about singers, actors, models, and this one is all about a singer and her life. Lily goes through heartbreak after heartbreak. Every time she thinks she met someone who really understands her, really gets her, and doesn't mind that she is famous and isn't always around, or is busy. She thought this was the case with Jed, but sadly Jed wasn't the man she hoped he was. All of the sudden she is alone again. I felt sad, and sorry for her, because it must hurt, finding out that maybe you are just going to be alone for all life. I know the feeling oh so well. :( Thankfully I found someone who proved I didn't, but before him? I knew that feeling very well.
But Lily doesn't let herself be down, she also doesn't write songs about heartbreak, however, she needs a plan. Her new cd/tour is all about love songs, all about Jed. And well, as you can imagine that isn't such a good plan now the relationship is over.
So she decides to take a break, go on a vacation with her friends, go to an island, be isolated, try to get her life back on the rails, try to find lyrics that aren't all about love, romance, heartbreak.
You can however imagine her manager's reaction when he finally finds out that his star is now taking a break, and isn't even sure that she will come back/have songs/will do the tour.
I did find Lily's going on vacation a bit unprofessional. I know she didn't want all those songs, I know she had a rough time, and yes, I can imagine she wants to find her roots, and get her life back, but I did think it was better had she just talked it over with her manager. Some things you just can't do any more when you are working, or when you have responsibilities. And yes, that might have meant she couldn't have just gone on a vacation, so, yeah, I guess the book wouldn't have existed then. :D
I really loved the time on the island, I could just imagine the island, imagine the water surrounding it. Imagine myself eating all the lovely fishy food. Imagine enjoying, relaxing, and having a good time.
I was happy to see how Lily changed, to see her become happier with each passing day. Sure, she still worried, she still had a job to do, but she also did a lot of fun things. It also must have felt like a relief not being stalked by paparazzi or getting tackled by fans that often. Finally she could do things without having to worry about such things. She could just be herself. Have fun with her friends.
The whole Noel thing? Well, I did have to say I found it a bit too soon and it really clashed with what Lily had said, and also promised to her friends. You weren't going to instant fall in love with a new guy. You weren't supposed to just do a rebound again. I don't know, for the first part I just didn't like the romance. Sure, it was cute, it was adorable, and I was happy for both characters. HOWEVER, Lily did get to the island to get away from it all. And she spots one hot dude and instant romance. What?
And why did she have to lie about stuff to her friends? I found it a bit too much, and I didn't particularly like it. Yes, I can imagine why she did it, but I don't approve of it at all.
Later on, when everything is out, I did love the romance between Noel and Lily. They made such a cute couple and I was just squeeing and awwing at everything. Noel didn't treat Lily like all the other guys, starstruck/etc., he treated her like a normal girl. They did stuff together that was just fun, and very romantic. Stargazing, fishing, swimming, and more. I just love those parts.
Of course near the end we get some conflict (nope no spoilers from me), while it did frustrate me a bit, I did like that it was added as it gave the book some extra depth. And then what happens afterwards just made it all much more rewarding.
The songs that Lily was able to write? They are just perfect, I can imagine that people love her stuff. And of course I was also happy for Lily that she was able to write a whole bunch of new songs.
As for the ending? I loved it, it was different from what I had thought it might be (though of course there were enough hints). I am really happy for all the characters, they all deserve their nice endings.
All in all, this was a gorgeous book, and I will definitely re-read it someday soon again. I would highly recommend this one!

First of all... how cute is this cover?! It just screams pop star romance to me!! It's definitely the perfect cover for this story. To give you an idea of this story, just think Taylor Swift meets the boy next door. That's pretty much what this story entails. I thought it would remind me of Jesse's Girl (but the reverse) by the synopsis, but it really didn't have many similarities to that story at all. Regardless, it was cute. It was a solid story about a pop star, Lily, who goes through a bad breakup and decides to spend some time away from everything to heal her heart. There she meets a local boy (swoon) and ends up developing feelings for him. At the end of the summer, she must pick him or her music.
Sounds cute, right? That's because it is. The reason I didn't give this story more than a "good" three-star rating is just because it lacked any real depth for me on the part of the characters as well as the story. Lily was a bit frustrating at times, basically throwing her money around like it was nothing and expecting attention wherever she went. I'm not saying it's far-fetched or unrealistic in any manner, it was just hard to relate to her on any sort of intimate level. The story was super cute, but I didn't see a whole lot of character growth or anything as the story progressed. It had a consistent pace and a fun vibe throughout, so I really enjoyed it. I just wasn't blown away by any aspect of this story.
Sing, to sum up, is a light, quick, fun read that's perfect for a day at the beach. If you're a fan of books involving music or celebrities, this is a cute one that you'll want to check out. Despite not being blown away by this story, I truly enjoyed it and I think others will as well. A great debut from a new author to watch!
I held off on reading this one until I was able to get the audiobook as soon as I realized that Andi Arndt was the narrator. She's one of my very favorite narrators. Her performances are always flawless. You can never go wrong with a narrations by Andi. She has the perfect teenage voice, acts out each character uniquely, and always brings the story to a whole new level. If you're thinking about reading this one, the audio is definitely the way to go!

I started reading this because of the Taylor Swift vibes I was getting from both the cover and blurb but this just turned out to be disappointing. For starters, I didn't really care or like the main character and I wasn't feeling her romance with Noel. The book also felt too short for something major to happen or for the story to be well developed (at least in the author's style of writing). Everything was also pretty predictable. Overall: meh.

Mmm. La historia es muy meh. Claramente estas historias no son muy de mi agrado, pero aún así me gustó mucho la decisión que tomó la protagonista. Muy de novela mexicana muchas de las cosas que pasaban jaja

No tuve conexión ni empatice con la protagonista (por momentos me sacaba de quicio). La historia es "simple" pero la protagonista hacía muuucho drama por todo. Al menos fue entretenido de leer y Lily, la protagonista, creció un poco al final.

This book has been exactly what I needed. I haven't read anything contemporary in a while. Its all been either really dark and heavy or fantasy. Which, don't get me wrong, I do love, but this has been such a breath of fresh air. And so so much fun.
Lily Ross is a pop icon, but she isn't very lucky in love. Having her heart broken countless of times its happening to her again. This time she wants to handle things differently and when her friend suggests spending some time at her house on a small Island, Lily is convinced its the right thing to do. She wants to write new music ready for her upcoming tour. Together with her two closest friends she is loving her time on the Island, most of all because it appears to be the only place where she can be truly herself. When Lily meets Noel she finds herself falling for him, fast and hard. He couldn't be more different from all the boys she has dated before. But what will happen when Lily's life will catch up to her. Can Noel handle everything that comes with dating a pop icon? Lily will have to make a hard choice between her music and the new happiness she found on the island.
This has been such an enjoyable read. It was light, easy and quick to read. I have liked all the characters very much, most of all Noel, of course. But what I really enjoyed the most is the friendship between Lily and her two closest friends.
I don't think its ever a bad think to fall in love a lot, quite the opposite. It takes courage to fall again after you had your heart broken, time and time again. But also what better feeling is there then falling in love with someone for the first time. That is one reason I have really enjoyed Lily. Greene has captured falling in love in a really heart warming and believable way.
I love the idea of the Island, it sounds like the perfect place for me. All I would have to take with me is my kindle packed with books and I could be very happy in this idyllic place.
What I also loved about Lily is how down to earth she is even tho her success is so huge.
This has been an adorable book about falling in love, music, home, friendship and finding yourself.
Great fun that will put a smile on your face and warm your heart.

While I'm not part of Taylor's Squad or whatever, I can appreciate what she's accomplishing culturally and I find the constant attention to her personal life to be fascinating even if the details don't matter much to me. Sing absolutely takes advantage of that cultural zeitgeist (up to and including the obvious cover) and succeeds extremely well in the process.

Her album is coming out and it's basically about her boyfriend, but they just broke up, so Lily heads to a small island to get away from it all and maybe write some new songs there. She, of course, meets another boy and things are hit off a bit, and the story quickly becomes about this balance between work, fame, and love.

You got a good sense of the speed that things move on these small island/coastal towns (I could absolutely picture this taking place on Cape Cod), and while the book doesn't throw you much in the way of curveballs, this felt different enough across the board where I fully enjoyed it from start to finish.

Acabo de terminarlo y soy un mar de emociones. Amé cada parte de este libro al punto de no querer parar de leer. Lily Ross me recuerda en muchos sentidos a Taylor Swift y en otros no tanto, su personaje comete errores y vive con mucha presión día tras día al ser la megaestrella del pop. La portada, la relación tan estrecha con sus fans, Nueva York, ir al gimnasio, enamorarse TODO el tiempo, componer sus propias canciones, compartir su vida con el mundo entero, su pasión por la cocina, los grandes festejos del 4 de julio, los paparazzi, su squad de amigas, las gaviotas y la playa a lo 1989, ser diferente a los demás en la secundaria, grabar canciones en su teléfono, ser mala conductora de autos, las referencias a situaciones que pasan en algunas canciones de Taylor, son sólo algunas partes del por qué Lily es tan Taylor. Es una lectura ágil, rápida y sencilla, ideal para este verano en la playa!!
No voy a spoiliar nada pero el final me dejó con muchas sensaciones a la vez y es una de las cosas más lindas de este libro *-*

Entretenida, ágil y muy veraniega. Va sobre música, amistad y romance. No puedo negar que tiene algunos clichés, pero ha sido interesante ver el otro lado de la fama, aunque me hubiese gustado más profundidad en algunos momentos. Pero es amena, eso sí.

Esta es una historia muy fresca creo que los personajes no fueron muy trabajados el cambio repentino de algunas aptitudes y comportamiento de algunos fue la razón por la cuál la historia no me termino de encantar, no dijo que la historia sea mala si no que hubieron muchas situaciones en la cual se pudo reforzar y mejorar, la narrativa de alguna situaciones emocionales no me termino gustando, hubiese deseado sentir lo que se estaba viviendo en la historia. La perspectiva que te muestran desde el punto de vista de una estrella pop es grandioso y el final me gusto. Pero repito es una historia muy fresca y ágil de leer.

But that's what I liked about it. Sing is a charmingly breezy and pleasant book about the difficulties of living life under the spotlight, with some thoughts on inspiration and relationships thrown in for good measure. It's exactly what you want in a book like this, and Vivi delivers in spades.
