I received this for a honest review.
Ryker was more than this handsome bear shifter. He was in the military and was in the Special Forces Unit. The military knew he was a shifter and used that to their advantage. Ryker was just out enjoying nature and wanting to let his bear free for a bit. What he was not looking for was his mate. Ryker did not want a steady woman at the moment. He wanted to spend more time with his military career.
Charlene was a beautiful plus size woman. She had a hard life putting up with an abusive ex. No this did not make her weak. Charlene was every bit of a strong woman. She was a survivor. I found I had a lot of respect for Charlene.
Charlene had found herself hurt with a twisted ankle hiking up to her destination on Emerald Lake. Lucky for her she had the sexy angel come along and help her out.
Charlene and Ryker cannot deny the attraction for one another. Ryker feels the strong need to protect her and keep her safe. The problem is Ryker has a secret. One that he must protect.
I love that the author brought out how a woman should take charge of her life and the situation she finds herself in. This is what Charlene decided to do. She took self-defense classes, joined a support group, and learned to shoot a gun. She had made up her mind not to be a victim ever again. So yeah, I love this take charge attitude from Charlene. Question is will this be enough when or if her ex comes a knocking?
Things are still on the rocks between Charlene and Ryker. She is still having to take in information that he is a shifter. Though she feels safe around Ryker this is a lot to take in. Will Charlene every be able to come to terms with everything and except Ryker for how he really is?

Had just finished the 1st book and was hoping that at the cliffhanger it was gonna be really a good start. This book is the complete 1st book...... So I had to scroll through until I got to the part it had left off at. Annnnnnnnnnnnnnd......... It was a DUD complete utter dud! Of course the Stand off comes with the ex... yadda yadda yadda.... then just when you think its gonna be all Charlene and Ryker getting hot n heavy...... Nope THE END. Huh WTF?!?!?! Total waste of time reading this snooze fest. It could have been a great story but I guess the Author didn't want to invest the extra time in the 2nd book to make it happen. Such an unfortunate shame. Coulda been good!

1.25 Stars. (WW/BM). Audible romance package book with narration by Steven Washington. The narrator did a good reading; unfortunately, the storyline is the problematic. Part 2 continues the chapter numeration from the first book. Insta love, fighting off husband, Charlene witnesses Ryker shift into his black bear form and temporarily becomes afraid of him and rejects him for awhile. This story is laughable; but, the dark skinned GREY eyed Black hero wins over the heroine and both are 😃 happy.

This is a fantastic book I have read. The storyline within this story is riveting and it's interesting and obviously the real point is the love back and forth between the two characters and all of the romance. I enjoy this so much, I couldn't stop reading until I was finish. I love the fact that it's so easy to feel like you're there with the characters . I'd recommend this to anyone who wants a Scorching Hot read with a few plot twists and, of course it's a fantastic love story. This storyline reminds me why I love reading Historical romance. Emerald Wright is truly creative, gifted and very talented. The storyline is well written. I enjoyed the storyline so much from the first page to the last page I was so amazed. I loved books that have Bears that's shifters! Emerald Wright is excellent at building fantasy worlds, her character development is awesome. The storyline has drama and depth to it. The story was the perfect blend of drama, mystery and sexiness. It was refreshing to read what felt like real literature. The characters are fabulous and compelling. The dialogue is realistic and passionate, I loved the interaction between the characters, the chemistry is so hot it leaps off the page like real life. The scenes are beautiful picturesque, dynamic with lots passion.
Every story is exciting, delicious and unforgettable with the hottest alphas live and love in the mountains. There is action adventure in this paranormal romance collection. Go ahead! This is a short novella about a woman who married young and ended up in an abusive marriage. She is fleeing from him when she becomes injured and meets a young soldier who comes to her rescue.
Ryker and Charlene were not looking for a relationship but feel an intense connection. He is a bear shifter and hoped to find his mate later in life when he was more settled. Charlene is working hard to start a new life. Love surprises them.
They really have a sweet romance even with the issues regarding her abuse. She is strong and I admired her courage in starting over and being open to a new life. Ryker is more of a loner due to his childhood and struggles with the feelings and what to do. It is a good read.
I have enjoyed many stories by this author and recommend her to those who like paranormal romances. They are well-written and the characters feel real in how they deal with the situations they face.

Wonderful Werebear story. Charlene is running from her abusive ex. Ryker is a military operative and werebear. He senses that she might be his mate, but he is not ready for that, but he is very protective of her, especially as her ex finds her. I loved both Charlene and Ryker. She is being so strong, getting away from her abusive husband, getting a job, taking self defense classes, and preparing herself to be able to defend herself. Ryker is such a gentleman and wanting to protect her. This story does not have all the hot sex that many of the shifter stories do, but it a really good quick read. I received this book from the author in return for an honest review.

She ecaped from an abusive marrage but on her run she was hurt in the woods and meet Ryker. He and his bear are shocked to trip over their mate in the woods. They plan to take things slow, get her to safety then get to know her.
Of course once Charlene gets settled in her new life her ex trys to make things hard
It's really nice to read a story were the women grows strong and over comes her past. This is a fun read that moves fast with action and romance

Charlene and Ryker were a good fit. Charlene wants a hero but also wants her independence and to be able to defend herself. Ryker wants to protect her but also understands the importance of not being too pushy and giving her space. This was a short story that took about two hours to read. It's nice for a little afternoon escape. There is a HEA ending that could stand as is, but it would be nice to see a follow up story that gives us a glimpse into Charlene and Ryker's future.

What a wonderful book. I love bear shifters and this book is definitely an awesome bear shifter story. You also have the theme of standing up for yourself and making changes that will help you live a better life. Oh and one more lesson, don't mess with a bear shifter's mate, you won't win!! I really Enjoyed this story and how Ryker helped protected Charlene. It's not a long story, great for a quite time to get away from the real world for a couple hours. Some great adventure. I was given this story for a honest review.

Boy, does this ever feel like "Chapter A Day"! I like her writing, but the choice of narrator leaves me cold. He sounds like a dismissive DA that I once had the misfortune to meet. At least it was inexpensive.
