Lacey Fancy Parker was raised in the foster care system and had no problem leaving it behind when the dry little lawyer came bearing gifts. Apparently, she is the inheritor of some cash, an old Victorian house in small town Addison, OH, and dozens of cats! All this from a grandmother she hadn't known existed until Mr. McCormick hunted her down at the request of Abigail Fancy Parker.
Lacey has no clue where she came from, who she is, or why she was abandoned, but when she sets eyes on number fourteen Shadow Lane, she is full of questions, full of joy, and most definitely, inundated with felines. No problem, she loves cats!
Officer Theron Bennett inherited the crazy cat lady of Addision when he moved to town several months ago. Now Abigail Parker has passed away, and it's his job to bring the cats under control by trapping them and getting them out of the city. However, he didn't count on a spirited young woman looking for her past to inherit the place and defend the out of control animals. He also didn't count on losing his heart to the mysterious young girl with the most spankable bottom he has ever laid eyes on.
I live in the Midwest and I love cats, reading, scrapbooking, and swimming. I also love to write romance with humor, a little discipline, and other fun and interesting stuff! I love the alpha male hero, it's always present in my books, and strong feisty heroines who inevitably get themselves into hot water with their man. I am now retired and plan on getting many more wonderful stories out for you to read. I can be found in all sorts of places. LIFE IS NEVER FAIR, AND FOR SOME, IT’S EVEN MORE UNFAIR THAN FOR OTHERS
I will be the first to say, I thought this was going to be a sweet cutesy type story, but I will tell you right now, it is a mystery suspense story that kept me on edge and the pages turning. Even at the end when the author admits she created this story, and it is just her creative liberties surrounding historical atrocities, she still has spun an incredible story. I do not want to give away this story, but I do want to say it is full of secrets, mysteries, sadness, and even finding a way to right some wrongs, ease some heartache, place some memories into the past with peace and new beginnings.
Lacey Fancy Parker never knew her parents, was always raised in foster care and every time someone was interested in adopting her, it never went through. Now at the age of twenty, she is contacted by an attorney that her maternal grandmother has passed away, and she has inherited cash and a beautiful Victorian home in Addison, Ohio, Not only does she inherit a beautiful, fully furnished home, but a yard full of cats. That is where Officer Theron Bennett comes into the scene, his plan, to start capturing the cats and taking them to shelters. The angst between the feisty, I’ve had to do it on my own and don’t mess with me Lacey and the Dominant, take charge, law enforcing Theron is also meet with an instant attraction for both parties. The story has several minor spankings and one serious one, but there are no sex scenes. The plot keeps the pages turning; the dialog is entertaining and heartwarming. What may seem like a cruel fate may really be the greatest act of selflessness.
Wonderful storyline, great characters and well written. I enjoyed all the history in the story and the humor. Brandy Golden has joined the list of my favorite authors.
This novel is so much richer than the title implies. There is that sweet, Cat Lady element, but it is really an epic tale of family history from one of the darkest eras of history.
Lacey has been bouncing around foster homes since birth, feeling unwanted and unloved. She is reserved around people, since she has trust issues. Working at Walmart and living in a small apartment out west, she suddenly learns she has inherited a large home in Ohio. Lacey packs up and moves to her first true home and to learn of her grandmother.
Besides a beautiful Victorian house in need of painting and an overgrown yard, Lacey has inherited the colony of cats that her grandmother feed and loved. Oscar the cat becomes her protector. Patches and her kittens charm her with their sweet actions.
Theron, the town's police officer who was in charge of the cat problem, puts out traps to start collecting feral cats to go to the human society (many would be put to death). Lacey discovering the traps after shopping for supplies, releases the cats and throws the traps out on the yard. Returning to discover his traps in the yard, Theron is not pleased and surprised that someone is living in the house. Thinking to inform the new owner of the town's cat limit, he meets Lacey. Theron's sense of protection over this young lady come out. He is attracted to her and her spankable bottom.
Lacey and Theron become a couple as they explore the house for clues of her family history. Lacey works on finding homes for the many kittens and feral cats. It will take some time. She plans to keep Oscar, Patches and their three kittens -- meeting the town's animal limit. Theron and his brothers clean the yard.
The family mystery is full of suspense, danger and heartache. Yet, Lacey has found love from relatives and Theron.
4 ½ stars This story was a very interesting read. It was about a grandchild finding her roots. Lacey was a foster child that never knew any of her family or if she even had family. She inherits a house and tries to piece together her families past. It is a heavier story with a HEA. Lacey uncovers information about her family that includes information about the Holocaust. The author does a very good job of bringing her story to life. The characters and history all take on a life of their own. There was sadness. There was the love of Theron, her police boyfriend who spanks, but all of it took a back seat to the quest of finding out where she came from. It was a good read with cute moments, but it did have the darker sadder side to it as well.
The synopsis of the book was misleading, I was going in thinking more erotica and ended up getting a history lesson. I don't mind history, I love reading and watching documentaries. But I was blindsided with this story of Lacey, the cat lady, and Theron the cop, not being about their love or sex story. Let me say it just wasn't what I expected, if I was giving a different synopsis that actually relates to the story I would have no problems with book other than it being too short.
This story was a surprise for me. I was expecting a fairly decent & well written story, which it delivered on. I wasn't expecting the suspense woven through the second half. Being that it was on such a serious topic it could have felt very out of place but it wove through very well.
