Meet Serena Shaw; fun-loving, sassy & impulsive, AND she can read your thoughts, literally. The disappearance of her neighbor brings her in touch with Special Agent Samvir Raina; a drop-dead handsome FBI agent, who also has ESP. Based in Detroit, THIRD EYE WATCH has a little bit of romance (actually quite a bit of it), a little bit of intrigue, and a little bit of action.
This is the first of the many adventures of gallery owner Serena Shaw & FBI Agent "McHot" Samvir Raina; in the Serena Shaw Mystery Series.

Nipa left Corporate America to become an entrepreneur, launching a digital marketing company and later with an MBA and her Corporate America experience, she became a filmmaker, producing her first film, Paid in Full released on April 3rd 2016. According to Nipa her debut book THIRD EYE WATCH is the first installment in "The Serena Shaw Mystery Series," and has romance, intrigue, psychic abilities, and an underlying theme of raising awareness about sex trafficking in the United States.
Often, especially in a first novel, a writer’s skills can be assessed in the manner in which the reader is engaged in capturing the imagination in a Prologue, and Nipa cleverly opens her book with a present day Prologue before the novel explores the past. She manages that very well – ‘Serena leaned against the kitchen counter drinking her second cup of coffee, and browsing the newsfeed on her phone. The television was on in the background, tuned to the local news. She heard “BREAKING NEWS” and looked up. A female African American reporter came on the screen; behind her was a yellow crime scene tape partitioning off an area around a parking lot and a female anchor sitting behind a news anchor desk was asking, “Tell us what you’ve learned, Christy.” The reporter pointed to the space behind her where a few cops were milling around a dumpster and said, “Jen, all we know is that the body of a young woman was found outside this dumpster a few hours ago. And although the police don’t have many details yet, the body is of a young woman in her early twenties.” The reporter faced the camera and continued, “They tell me that the body was discovered by a homeless man who had been digging through a dumpster for food.” Serena’s hand trembled, and her coffee cup dropped and shattered into a thousand pieces. She watched as the image on the television screen changed and now she could see two medics “wheeling a stretcher covered with a white sheet, obviously overtop a dead body. Soon, the camera panned back to the news reporter who was going on and on about the crime scene. But Serena was no longer listening. She already knew what the reporter didn’t know. When the newscast moved on to another story, Serena reached for the remote to turn the television off, then stopped and looked down when she felt glass crunching under her shoes. Sudden tears filled her eyes she stared for a moment at the remnants of her favorite coffee mug. Then shaking her head in disgust, she brushed the tears away. Which idiot cried over a broken coffee cup? Bending, Serena carefully picked up the tiny shards, allowing her mind to drift back to the night six months ago when her next-door neighbor Sofia had been kidnapped. That same night, she, Serena Shaw (former employee in a dead-end job and current owner of an eclectic gallery selling unique one-of-a-kind items) had acquired “thought-reading” abilities.’
Now move into the gist of the story – ‘Set in Detroit, Samvir Raina, the handsome and sexy hero is an FBI Secret Agent who is busy solving crimes in his hometown. Serena Shaw, the heroine is a sassy, impulsive, and outspoken gallery owner who witnesses the kidnapping of her neighbor. When the two meet, their mutual passion explodes like a firecracker.’
Intrigue, social comment, mystery, and romance blend well in Nipa’s well-prepared hands. She is an author to watch carefully.
I enjoyed reading THIRD EYE WATCH because it is a clean, feel-good romance mixed in with some mystery and also exposing a heinous social underbelly. The author has done a great job with the characters and their relationships. If you are looking for a flawed hero, you won't find it in Sam Raina, because he's - in the author's words which I fully agree - McHot and what an ideal lover should be. Serena on the other hand is as lovable as she is sassy. All in all, if you need a good book to curl up with, I recommend this one. It's witty, interesting and fun to read till the end. This is the author's first book but I will definitely be reading her next books.
The Third Eye by Nipa Shah Romance thrillers aren’t my usual book faire, but The Third Eye was a wonderful read. The pacing was quick, which I like and I was instantly drawn into the plot as well as truly liked the main characters. It was a fast read and I found myself reading it on my cellphone. I give this book an enthusiastic 4 out of 5. Congratulations Nipa, I await your next book.
Serena Shaw has the ability to hear your thoughts, which comes in handy when her neighbor is kidnapped. She ends up working with an FBI agent to solve the case. The story was good, although it was definitely more romance than mystery. The way the character talked jarred with me too. It sounded dated at times and I couldn't imagine someone talking like that in real life. Overall it was a decent story but I would market it more toward romance fans than mystery.
I liked this book alot. I found myself reading in late into the night. The characters were so human and it kept me wanting to read more. I love Romantic novels with twists of suspense. I will recommend.
Of course I'm biased, but I love this book. I love the characters, Serena Shaw, who has my daughter's personality - sassy, witty, and sarcastic. Sam, the hot and sexy FBI agent is obviously a figment of my imagination but he's all that a romantic man should be and more. Someone who reviewed my book said that my characters were not three-dimensional. I worried about that until I researched and learned that three-dimensional characters are those that have some flaw, some private struggle.
And that ended my struggle with trying to justify why my characters don't need to be three-dimensional. I want them to be all that is good and more, because such people do exist in real life.
Third Eye Watch has a bit of a crime story in it, but to be frank, I wrote it like a romance because I believe in happily ever afters. So, if you are someone who enjoys a quick read, something that is light and clean, and doesn't have vulgar language or explicit scenes but does have a sweet romance, then I hope you will read Third Eye Watch.
I'm not yet working on a sequel, but the next book in this series will still be based in Detroit. And will still continue with Sam and Serena's romance - although this time instead of fighting sex-trafficking, they'll fight terrorism. Yes, the seeds for the next plot are germinating....but for now, I'm writing another novel, this one a thriller based in Mumbai, India.
Stay tuned (and do let me know if you'd like to be my advanced copy reader).
This is a surprisingly sweet romance with a few interesting twists. Serena Shaw is Indian-American, and she operates a gallery with artifacts from around the world. She's a beautiful young woman, and unusually nice, but she's dangerous. She can hear what you're thinking. When her neighbor is kidnapped, Serena gets involved with the FBI as they investigate the crime. After befriending special agent Audrey Glennon, Serena falls for her Indian-American partner, the hunky Samvir Raina. Serena and Sam are meant for each other, but they resist. Even after Sam enters Serena's mind to skim her thoughts. Yes, he's got telepathic perception skills too. They are indeed the perfect couple.
A combination of romance and mystery, the story is a fast paced read with lots of delicious romance but no sex, plus a mystery to keep you engaged. First time author Nipa Shah has done an excellent job of crafting a novel with likable characters and a plot that carries the reader forward.
I'm not familiar with Detroit, but much of the story seems to be set in a comfortable suburb, not the downbeat heart of Motor City. The novel avoids indulging in the seedy in favor of sweetness and a collection of goodhearted characters who work to make their world a better place.
I do not want to provide spoilers, so I will not give you all the details. You have to read it for yourself.
Nipa has put together a great cast of characters. The inner dynamics of Serena and Sam kept teasing me to read more. The underlined crime drama and the gifts of both Serena and Sam were enough to draw me even closer to the story line. This is a good and easy read. I read it while traveling and before I knew it I was at my destination. Looking for a good and easy book to read, this is it.
Romantic Suspense/Mystery can be a hit and miss sub-genre for me, and sadly this was a miss. I found the writing style very stilted at first, with a lot of telling the action rather than showing. It tended to repeat itself a bit too, especially after Serena discovered her telepathy.
Still, I was mildly interested in the mystery and wanted to see where it headed. That is until Sam turned up. Serena suddenly striking up a friendship with the female FBI agent was a bit odd, and the agent seemed strangely comfortable telling Serena all kinds of stuff, but it was the fact that Sam having a girlfriend wasn’t seen as important. Serena is more beautiful, so of course it’s fine that she goes after him.
That was the point when I gave up. Sorry, but the writing style already wasn’t working for me, so throw in that and I didn’t much care what happened to her or any of the others.
