Liz Lucas Mystery #6

Murder at the Big T Lodge

Rate this book
What could go wrong at The Big T Lodge, the most expensive and prestigious hunting club in the United States? Well, murder for starters!

When Roger Langley tells his wife, Liz, that they're leaving for Texas in three days for an unexpected hunting trip at the club, neither of them has a clue that Liz will spend most of her time looking for the person who murdered Roger's law school friend, Milt Huston, who just happens to be the Attorney General of California and a candidate for Governor of California.

There's no lack of suspects, but who did it, and what was their motive? Anger from Milt's former lover? Revenge from the lover's husband? Milt's proposed cigarette tax increase despised by a North Carolina tobacco farmer? The California Senator who wants to be Governor of California? Or the chef's assistant who hates Milt's liberal views?

Join Chef Wes, Liz, and her new doggie friend, Sam, a huge bullmastiff, as they search for the murderer and the motive.

I enjoyed this book. What would the world do without Liz Lucas to solve all the murders? Or even without Dianne Harman to write them? Be very bored, that's what. This is another great example of why her series have such long runs, this series contains thirteen books so far, Northwest Cozy Mystery Series is at sixteen, Murder in Cottonwood Springs is at 14, High Desert Cozy fifteen and all of them contain love able dogs, great characters, good mysteries, tasty recipes and lots of suspects. Keep them coming.
Liz finds herself invited to a prestigious hunting club which is booked up years in advance when a member drops out and her husband Roger is offered the place. Liz isn't interested in hunting but with the prestigious lodge comes there very own chief and she might get some new recipes to try out on her own customers. Before she can even whip up a meal , Roger's law school friend is found dead. The owner of the lodge doesn't want the reputation to be blemished and is quick to hush it all up by telling the other guests the dead man had to leave early. He even asks Liz to notify the family. Liz is quick to suspect fowl play and secure the crime scene and starts to investigate by questioning everybody that could have had a motive. Can she find the evidence to prove he was murdered? And convince the lodge owner there is a killer walking about?
I like the narrator. She has read a number of this authors books and always puts in a good performance.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This is the 6th in the series. The main characters are Liz and her hubby Roger. Roger has a chance to go to a hunting lodge in Texas with his friend . Liz goes along and when they get there they can't believer how beautiful. But the first night there Roger's friend dies. The owner doesn't want to have to deal with any of it and so Liz takes over. When she suspects he was murdered she sends the beet juice that she thinks is tainted to LA so it can be checked. Turns out she is right but who did it? They all seem to be strangers, so who would want hi dead? Then it begins to look like there were 2 other murders. Can she figure this out before it too late or will she be the next one to die?

Murder in Texas

Liz usually solves murders in California, but in this case she and Roger have gone to a hunting lodge in West Texas, a very expensive lodge, with a client at Roger's law firm who has plans to run for California Governor. He is the victim and, of course, Liz involves herself and solves his murder and two more from several years ago. The Lord's chef saves her life.

Another well written murder mystery from the pen of Dianne Harman, Liz and husband Roger go for an enjoyable break to an exclusive Lodge complex and once again a death takes place and Liz is the only person that suspects foul play.
Follow her adventure to unravel the mystery and uncover the suspect.
Never a dull moment.
The narrator has a nice clear voice.
I received this audiobook for free from the author and wanted to give an honest opinion.

Liz and a Roger are excited to be going to stay at the Big T Lodge. Roger can’t wait to go do some hunting. But it’s not long before Roger’s friend Milt is murdered. It feels like there is something really secretive going on. Liz is determined to find out what’s going on. This mystery has some new characters. And Liz finds herself a new dog friend. There are yummy recipes at the end of the nook as well.

I know these are small and you can read them in a few hours but they still grab you throughout the story keeping you reading. This author writes several series and they are equally good. The characters are lovable, you'll root for them throughout the story and the story will keep you reading. Great Reading Everyone!

When a guest, a friend of her husband’s, winds up dead, of course Liz jumps in to solve the mystery. Who killed him and why? Several folks there both staff and guests seem to have motives but it will be up to Liz to solve it - as usual!

Suspicious death/deaths

Last minute trip to Awesome hunting lodge turn into a suspicious death. If it wasn't for Liz's niggle no one would know it was murder. Must read all of Dianne Harmon's books.

This whodunit will have you on the edges of your seat as Liz digs into a suspicious death. Not only are the clues very detailed, but so is the pecan pie recipe I can't wait to try~

This was such a different scenario that I was drawn into the story line immediately. Loved the character of Sam, the smart dog. His ability through out the plot was great.

Proof reading

The author is great. Gripping in her tales. Howver, there were several typos, misspellings etc, so, I suggest re reading it & let another person proof the end product.

Liz Lucas was amazing.

Very fast moving. I thought the owner of Big T’s was going to give her Sam. A good payoff for almost being murdered. But she solved 3 murders.

I enjoy reading books by this author. This time, I had my suspicions of who might be the murderer, but didn't expect her to go after Liz in the way that she did.

Dianne always sets you up with great stories and she even gives us the recipes that are served as you read each book. This series gives you Liz’s sleuthing skills and how much she loves her second husband. Will be reading the next one in this series.

First I would like to say that there are a couple of recipes at the back of this book that I definitely am going to try-I'll give you a hint--they both include avocado! The rest of the recipes will have your mouth watering as well. Now on to my review----

Roger, Liz's husband, was invited to the most exclusive hunting lodge in Texas. Liz did not hunt but decided that since Roger really wanted to do this-they would go. If you have read any of the the other books in this series you will know that Liz is a magnet for murder--and darn good at solving them! Sure enough, they no sooner had gotten there and slept-the next morning Roger's friend was found dead in his room. Now I did mention that Liz was not a hunter so with all that time on her hands she decided to look into the death which she had a feeling was murder. She is also a magnet for dogs. The Bull mastiff, the owner of the lodge's dog--adopted Liz--thank heavens!! She also made friends with the chef which is where she got the recipes and some tricks of the trade which she was planning to use at her hotel and spa, along with information which helped her solve the mystery, and along with the dog--saved her life!! As usual there were several viable suspects--will you be able to figure out who did it? This time I actually was able to--but the story line is so good it kept me reading until the end. And then those recipes!!

So close! The author managed to keep to one point of view up to the end of the book, but then lost it with two sections from other characters POVs.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
