Bringing lovers together, one book at a time

The official stuff

Susan writes steamy, sexy and fun contemporary romance stories, some suspenseful, some gritty and dark and hopefully always entertaining. She’s also Editor in Chief at Divine Magazine, an online LGBTQ e-zine, and a member of The Society of Authors, the Writers Guild of Great Britain, and the Authors Guild in the US.

Susan is also an award-winning script writer, with scripts based on two of her own published works. Sight Unseen has garnered no less than five awards to date and her TV pilot, Reel Life, based on her debut novel, Cassandra by Starlight, was also a winner at the Oaxaca Film Fest.

The ‘unofficial’ stuff…

She loves going to the theatre, live music concerts (especially if it’s her man crush Adam Lambert or the divine Cumberbatch) walks in the countryside, a good G and T, lazing away afternoons reading a good book, and watching re-runs of Silent Witness and Wire in the Blood.

Her chequered past includes stories like being mistaken for a prostitute in the city of Johannesburg, being chased by a rhino on a dusty Kenyan road, getting kicked out of a youth club for being a ‘bad influence’ (she encourages free thinking) and having an aunt who was engaged to Cliff Richard

~4.5~

I've read four of the eight books in this series, and Hard Climate might be my favourite. I don't typically go for established couple stories, but this one has a twist.

Mango (a nickname that has nothing to do with the fruit) and Ryan have been together for two years, but Mango can't seem to commit. Ryan is a convenient fuck buddy and the man Mango calls when his work as an environmental activist lands him in jail time and again.

Mango traipses around the world fighting for his causes and barely bothers to call. Birthdays, holidays . . . they're not on Mango's agenda.

Ryan is a gay nightclub owner and part-time drag queen. He's all sass and spark, very much the yin to Mango's gruff, outdoorsy yang. But Ryan's had enough. The next time Mango needs his help, Ryan grudgingly follows through, then promptly kicks Mango to the curb.

Mango is utterly terrified of losing Ryan. As soon as he realizes Ryan is serious about ending the relationship, he panics.

I loved both of these MCs and the incredible chemistry between them. Mango is scared of being someone's everything, but when Ryan has a health scare, Mango is all there, the perfect, supportive partner.

The men's passion transcends the sexual, and I enjoyed watching their relationship move to the next level.

This book has all my favorite things: friendship, romance, hot sex (two words: Tenga Eggs; look 'em up), HEA, and a cabin in Norway. What? Cabins in Norway are essential.

It's low on drama (save for Ryan's diva tissy fits, which are more adorable than anything else) and high on steam, with a generous dose of healing/comfort for good measure.

P.S. This book can be read as a standalone, although I recommend reading Cross to Bare, Lenny and Brook's story, first; Lenny is Ryan's best friend and fairly present in this story.

Hard an adjective word, meaning solid, firm, and rigid; not easily broken, bent, or pierced. GULP!! Let me explain why, I think the writer of this story chose the title and no I have not stalked the Author and already asked. Hopefully she will seek me out and tell me I was right, if not, well thats okay because this is the way I see it, the way I feel.

So back to Hard, LOL!! I know, I know, I just can't help myself. Anyways the meaning Solid, firm is really the obvious thing that springs to mind, okay Jesus, I will spell it out for you. It's the male member, you guys know I can't use words of profanity or certain sexual words in my reviews, it will get removed. Hard also means not easily broken, well this was certainly true for Ryan. Unfortunately I can't make any other comment on that because it would give a huge spoiler out, so go read. hehe!!

Climate, another interesting word to use for a book title. It's a noun word. Yep, I have been reading the English dictionary today just for you guys. The meaning could be the weather conditions prevailing in an area in general or over a long period, but nope that definitely doesn't feel right after reading this story, so I investigated further. And this seems more like it, 'another aspect of life'.

The title fits the story perfectly, you're probably thinking, I didn't need to know all that codswallop above, well thats the great thing about reviewing, I can say what I like, HA!! Honestly, I feel like I've turned into Mango. Who's Mango? So pleased you asked. I will now get back to the story.

If you are a fan of 'The Men of London Series', you would have heard about Ryan and Mango previously. Ryan was Laverne Debussy-Smith AKA Lenny's ex bed buddy. Mango is the guy that Ryan has always loved but can't get him to stay in the same zip code long enough to have a relationship with him. Capisce? You following so far?
So now that Lenny is settled with Brook. Ryan is also ready to take the next step and have a meaningful relationship. Nope, Mango is not the settling down type or is he? Who knows what's around the corner, the possibilities for Mango are endless, even jail is a strong candidate.

I have laughed so hard while reading this story. This is one of my favourite quotes,
'Would you please stop trying to drive my nuts through my stomach and calm down and listen to me?' HAHA!! Leading up to this part is hilarious and full of profanity, hence why I chose to share this part.

No story is complete without a little heartache, maybe not everyone cries while reading tragic events, but I sure do. I think because I was so involved in this story it made me cry harder. I was so sadden by what occurred I just kept thinking, please be okay, please be okay. Honestly if I thought for one minute the Author wasn't going to give me a HEA, I would have screamed the house down. Oh yeah, I need my happy ever after without it, I can't sleep, I have the book hangover from hell. Readers you know exactly what I am talking about.

I have to say this is another exceptional story to add to 'The Men of London'. I really don't know what I will do when this series is over. It's a truly amazing gift to be able to not only write a book, but to grasp the hearts of readers that keep wanting more. Susan Mac Nicol without a doubt you have been blessed with the Midas touch.
Thank you for another heart warming and sexy read. Please never stop writing The Men of London.

PS. I still have full rights to Clay and Tate, just saying. (Smily face inserted here)

**ARC RECEIVED FOR HONEST REVIEW**
WOW !
I've loved every single book in this series so far, and this is just as good as the rest !!
In this we meet Ryan & Mango who are hard to describe at first..... Mango, at first taste was bitter on my taste buds...... I did NOT like him at all for how he used Ryan. Yet, after persevering, i found his taste sweetened and he definitely made my taste buds tingle !
My heart broke for Ryan in this at what he goes through, not just because of Mango, but other contributing factors too. Mango knows he needs to take drastic action when he's told by Ryan that they are no more, a decision which as hard as it was for Ryan to make, it had to be done. The activist in Mango realises he's going to have to do EVERYTHING in his power to stop the break up happening..... Yet, when the self confessed "commitment phobe" does take action, it seems as though fate has other plans for them.
Yet again Susan has put EVERY emotion available into this book. It had laughs aplenty from recurring characters as well as the tears of sadness at back stories and the plot. I love how this was written and as much as i did hate Mango at the start he gained my love and sympathy eventually, especially when dealing with a really big curve ball thrown at him and Ryan by life !
Absolutely LOVED IT !!

Take one feisty guy who owns a club where he dresses in drag from time to time (Ryan) and put him with a rally-for-the-cause guy who just can’t commit (Mango), and you have a recipe for angst called Hard Climate. But that’s not all you’re going to find when Mango realizes exactly what he stands to lose when Ryan decides he’s fed up with the come-and-go attitude Mango continually plays. It’s a case of “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone”, exacerbated by some health drama that will keep you quickly turning the pages to make sure these guys will still have some kind of happy ending.

I loved Ryan, he’s a successful club owner, definitely comfortable with who he is and I was proud of him for standing up for himself after two years of back and forth with Mango who for personal reasons won’t commit to him permanently. Mango gets an earful not just from Ryan, but from his friends as well, prompting him to make a decision on just what is really important to him.

Mango’s attitude at first rubbed me the wrong way, so the journey in this story of him discovering how badly he wants Ryan (and not just as a when-I’m-in-town guy), and the cementing of that relationship between them felt like a bit of redemption for his character. The two of them are really good together, and as Mango works his way back into Ryan’s heart and their relationship gets stronger and stronger, it raised my opinion of Mango as the story progressed.

The drama and worry throughout the story, particularly after Ryan receives some troubling personal news, kept me glued to the pages, and in the end Hard Climate wound up as a 4.5-star read for me. And just as with the rest of the series, this book is only for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

*** Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie in exchange for a fair review. ***

While Hard Climate is book 8 in the Men of London series and features some characters from previous books, it can be read as a standalone, although the series is so good, that I recommend you read them all!

After two years of wondering where he stands in Mango's life, Ryan has had enough and decides to end their relationship, if one can even call it that, for good.

Manning "Mango" Munroe has commitment issues, but it isn't until Ryan ends their affair, that he realizes he better get over those soon and make amends with Ryan or he'll end up losing the man for good. Unfortunately, fate has other plans in store for them.

I love books in which the characters are already in an established relationship, even one as dysfunctional as this one. It gives us a different perspective and that is refreshing. In this case, Ryan finally has had enough of waiting for Mango to realize that they could have a great life together and is ready (or as ready as he can be, loving Mango as he does) to move on. Mango has lots of commitment issues stemming from his parents' death when he was a child, but it isn't until Ryan puts an end to their affair and his friends make him see how badly he's treated Ryan, that he actually turns things around and decides to make the changes needed so they can be together and he can win his man back. I adored that he actually had to work for Ryan's forgiveness, even when Ryan was weak against him.

They were amazing together. They were old enough to overcome their past mistakes and move on for them, and mature enough to work for their HEA, even with the curve-ball thrown their way. I loved seeing Lenny and Brook and I'm very curious over Kyle and Eric, so I hope we get their story.

All in all, this was a fantastic story! Engaging, heart-breaking, angsty, yet loving and hopeful, and of course, you can't go wrong with Susan Mac Nicol's writing! Definitely recommendable!

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

4.5 Stars

Book 8 in The Men of London and still the series feels fresh and nowhere near ready to finish. This has what I like in a series; each new couple brings their own unique set of issues but there is always the steady strum of couples from the past that gives us a familiarity.

Ryan Bishop owns a swanky and popular London nightclub where he is free to let his alter ego out to play. Delilah Delish, drag queen extraordinaire, is the snarky diva side of Ryan who quite often spills over into Ryan’s character when he becomes emotional and at the moment his emotions are all over the place due to Mango Manning. Mango is a free spirited soul who fights the eco battle for those that need a voice. He is actually very good at his job and gets a great deal of satisfaction from it but he also uses it to run from his personal life and he has been using it to run from Ryan for the last two years.

Three major things change in their lives at once that turn everything upside down.

Firstly Ryan decides he has had enough and he wants and needs a partner that isn’t going to run off at the first sign of commitment. The knock on effect of Ryan’s decision makes Mango FINALLY realise that not being with Ryan is an option he can’t even consider – he is going to have to change his ways and start opening up about his past. In theory both these things should resolve their ongoing issues once and for all but then Ryan has a health scare and everything changes again.

Ryan and Mango have to work hard for their HEA. They both have trust issues, they both need to open up to each other and they both have to take a leap of faith that everything will work out. Great 8th book in an equally great series.

Original Blog Post: Review: Hard Climate (Men of London #8) by Susan Mac Nicol

Review by: multitaskingmomma
My Rating: 5 of 5 Stars

Hard Climate is one book you should read. No, not because of the cover which I know you're happily caressing if it's a paperback in your hands or happily gazing at it (if that's all you're doing) if an ebook. Thing is, Mango's happy trail is giving me the shivers and it's all good.

Back to the book...

Mango is one of those guys you want to dislike. He's supposedly not the commitment type and you'd like to hate him for treating Ryan the way he did. On the other hand, you also want not to like Ryan for putting up with a man like Mango. Why should he, you ask?

The answer is simple really: Ryan and Mango, they are meant for each other and even though the road to forever took a long while to go through, at the end of it, they settled and had their forever after taken care of. Happily and with a huge lot of grinning along the way.

The story of Ryan and Mango is a little bit different for a Men of London installment. For one thing, it is the lightest read of the bunch. And another, it is the one where the initial reaction is not to like the men involved. Fortunately, they quickly grow on you and in the end, you want them to get to that HEA fast. The read is light, I say again, but it is not free of perils and woes along the way. How the writer, wrote this was to make the reader crave they get the HEA in the most romantic way.

HC is another wonderful read from author Susan Mac Nicol, and by the end of the read, you are guaranteed to smile and maybe laugh a little bit for the fabulousness that is Ryan.

This is the 8th book of the series - and although there are links throughout, this could be read as a stand alone. However, all the books are really good, so I would recommend that you read them all!

Even though it has been a few months since I read the previous book in the series, I was soon back in the world of this loosely linked group of friends and their lives and loves. Ryan runs (is) club Delish, and whilst he is very happy that his best friend with benefits is now off the market, and all loved up. His true love, Mango, is a man who resists all forms of commitment, yet is always expecting Ryan to be there for him ...

Luckily Mango (love the reason for his nickname ...) works out - with some very strong prompting from his friends - that he perhaps needs to pay Ryan more attention. He does make a big effort, and I loved watching him being the person that we would like to believe Ryan would fall for - Ms Mac Nicol does a brilliant job of getting us right into the story and totally invested in what is happening.

Really great story, which made me laugh, definitely made me tear up, and is super sexy too. It is difficult not to want to imagine future story lines, as this group of guys really get into your imagination. I am looking forward to reading the next installment very much.

Great series. I have read all the books in this series so far and Susan keeps picking up her game with these men. This Mango and Ryan's story. We have met Ryan in the past and I loved his diva attitude. Here we get to see why he is the way he is and it is thanks to Mango. His lover of 2 years keeps coming in and out of his life. Ryan had enough and dumps him. Mango then realizes he loves Ryan more than saving the word and he wants to win him back. This is where the story gets good. Mango is a commitment phobe but wants Ryan in his life, he has to work on his own issues before he can be what his man needs. Ryan is great , he is smart and funny and I really liked him from previous books. In this Ryan has some medical issues he needs to deal with in order to find true love with Mango. Susan draws you into the story and you root for the characters to get their HEA. Received an ARC from publisher for a review. Reviewed by Jodi for Alpha Book Club

I liked seeing Lenny and Brook too, such a great couple. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book and I hope we get Kyle’s story at some point. This series always gives me the feels and this book did not disappoint.

Susan Mac Nicol hit another homerun! I've been waiting (not so) patiently for Ryan and Mango's story. Although the wait was longer than I liked, it was well worth it. I loved the heartache, heartbreak, make up, HEA storyline. This one was angsty and a tear-jerker and I enjoyed every minute of the journey.

Bottom line: can't wait for book 9! Eric and Kyle? Please please please!

Almost DNF and I should’ve because the story and writing went downhill in the 2nd part when MCs start to fix things. I liked Mango but not Ryan and the sex was boring and bad.
Ryan didn’t have any right to be angry at Mango for not wanting a commitment and ask him to because they weren’t exclusive and Ryan had another fuck buddy who happens to be his best friend. I’m sure if Lenny hasn’t gotten a bf they would be still fucking. After ending things with Mango, Ryan was sad and mourning and couldn’t have sex with another men because he had no desire for all them but his BFF/fuck body, he missed him in bed and missed their explosive sex.
“ - Mango I can’t take anymore I want a commitment, I haven’t slept with anybody else but you except for Lenny my BFF to make me happy when you disappear.
- Ryan I haven’t been with anyone else, my ass and dick belong to you but hey I got blow jobs, hand jobs, grinding, even at your club with a hot twink that kept hitting on me and I couldn’t resist. “ Seriously !!
There was one night they were supposed to spend a romantic evening and romantic diner. Mango surprised Ryan he took care of everything: flowers, candles, champagne, music to show him how much he loves him but instead he took him straight to the bed and fucked his mouth... So romantic ! They spend the night Mango fucking Ryan’s ass with weird sex toys.
Btw can a man comes and have thousand orgasms in one night ?? And can a man be hard 24/7?? 😁😁

What else ? Oh yeah the guy had a brain surgery and when he woke up 1 hour later he talking, laughing, moving. He head a craniotomy FFS, it’s surgical removal of part of the bone from the skull to expose the brain and remove a tumor. It needs a big recovery.

And Eric was useless, the guy Ryan went ou on a date with after he ended things with Mango and thinks didn’t work out, he’s became close friends just like that, they talk with each other a lot, go out together every time Mango was away for work. He didn’t miss anything of Ryan’s life.

Another unbelievable thing : what kind of person talk with his favorite celebrity he just met about app dating, condoms and sex toys ?! 🤦🏻‍♀️
And thinking about having threesomes with ?!

So yeah this book was a pain in the ass to read, no to mention the British and Irish words drove me nuts I had to look up most of them and it was big waste of time, I was so frustrated.
To all the authors : please “Arse, prick, semen, arshole” aaaaaaah it’s not sexy, when you start to enjoy a sex scene and bam “arse” comes up and total absolute turn off 😁

I DON’T RECOMMEND

I will admit, I have been binging on Ms. Mac Nicol’s Men of London Series for the past two months. I reviewed the first book Love you Senseless when released in October of 2014. I loved it and lost track as we readers can do, noticed #9 was releasing and ran amok!!

I love how the author ‘sets the reader up’ letting us have glimpses of the characters, before they have their own book. It’s nice to sorta have a feel for who they are, or where they are in life. This story is no exception as we met Ryan Bishop in Suit Yourself. Ryan was Lenny’s ‘friend with benefits’ (which ended quickly when Lenny met Oliver). Ryan a sexy nightclub owner loves to take the drag stage with Lenny on those nights when the risqué duo makes the crowd go wild.

Ryan and Mango Manning have been hooking up for a few years. Mango who can’t commit has again has left town and Ryan one time too many. THIS IS IT Ryan says for the 90th time……But just maybe…. Mango is ready, to stop all the running and not want to come home to an empty apartment.

Certainly, this is a story of Mango learning he has to give, and Ryan sticking to his guns and not making it easy for Mango to get back into his life. Our author not only did that but made Mango a hero in my eyes not the jerk I thought him…..Very Good Work Ms. Mac Nicol….Never thought you could do that!

Also realize that I am going to read Book 9…The Last of the Series…..Cannot wait but am sad….The Last of the Series…..Or is it?

This is another book in the Men of London series. The story starts off with us meeting Mango Manning. A eco warrior who is suffering from commitment issues and desperately needs to work on his people skills. He has been in a on again/off again relationship with Ryan Bishop for two years. Ryan a night club owner and performer has had enough of the loving and leaving. He needs someone who wants to be in a committed relationship. So in order to achieve that he knows that he must end things with Mango and cut him out of his life. He is brutally honest with Mango and tells him that they can't just revert back to friends as he knows that he needs time to begin a new chapter in his life. A clean break it must be.

To Mango, this decision comes from out of nowhere. He thought things were going well. He talks with his friends and that all side with Ryan. They tell him that his behaviour was inexcusable. Leaving someone in the morning and with no note nor date of return is not the way to treat someone you respect and care about. Realizing that he may in fact lose Ryan for good this time, Mango makes some smart life decisions. However, for Ryan it is all too little to late. You can't show someone you've changed if they won't talk with you. So Mango has an uphill battle ahead of him if he wants to prove to Ryan that he is interested in real committed relationship.

So it is from that point that both men have to work to have the relationship that they wanted. Of course, nothing goes that smoothly so their are some surprising bumps in the road ahead to happiness.

The Blogger Girls

Mango, Mango, Mango…loved him, but wanted to knock his melon in at the same time. Ryan, Ryan, Ryan, ….loved him, too, but wanted to find him a new man, at first…and knock his melon in at the same time, too. See a common theme? Seriously though, both Mango and Ryan had some major issues to work through, needed major lessons in communications, and needed something traumatic to occur to get both of their heads out of the sand. Sadly, that traumatic experience was harsh, and in hindsight, I should have figured it out, but it still caught me unawares.

We get a nice revisit with Lenny/Laverne and Brooke in this installment, and that is always a gift. Ryan needed friends while trying to cope with a boyfriend who is always off trying to save the world. An Eco-warrior’s job is never done, even at the expense of the man you love. And who better to be besties with than Lenny? Lenny and Ryan together are a hoot, especially on stage.

There are some heartbreaking aspects to this story that I didn’t see coming. It’s romance, so you know there “should” be a happy ending, but nowadays you never know. I didn’t expect it to end so lovely though as the trauma was real, but my heart was rejoicing once the relationship and health scares were settled. And the ending…sigh, loved it. As with all of Susan Mac Nicol’s books, highly recommended.

Overall Impression: I really liked it!

In a word, Fabulous!

Mango Manning (cute and fitting name for an eco warrior) has captured the eye and desire of club owner, Ryan Bishop. Unfortunately, there's been rough seas between these two. Its rare that I read a book and stumble across an already established couple. Its usually a second chance after many years apart or first time loves. This turn of events was more than new to me, it was rather refreshing.

Mango lacks the stability that Ryan needs. Finally, Ryan has had enough. Mango finally receives what he needs, a healthy dose of his own lackluster attitude. The verbal beating didn't stop with Ryan, friends joined in to help Mango see the light. Will his epiphany be enough to mend damaged fences?

Willing to put in the work, Mango work to win Ryan back just as Ryan had to be willing to accept him back into his life.

**SIDE NOTE-----I've finally made it to book eight and have not been disappointed. Late in the discovering this series, I had to indulge for the summer.
If the reader of this review is anything like I am, you may prefer to read the series in order. They are listed as standalone, but the connections of main and supporting characters transition fro one book to the next. **

Talk about an emotional read good grief I think I went through every single one reading this book. There were times where my heart just ached for Ryan and I really struggled at times to like Mango. Wow what a journey they go on. Ryan is very much used to begin with in this book because mango just can’t seem to commit. So in the end Ryan decides enough is enough and this is the shocker that mango needed. He had to work out what he wanted and he was gonna Have to pull out all the stops to get his man back.
This is another fantastic book by Susan I can’t believe how she manages to put me through the ringer but she certainly does. It was great to past couple that we’ve met before that’s what I like about this series you don’t lose touch with them.

Loved the book it was great, the story was well written and the characters are interesting. Ryan owns a London nightclub owner, he is looking for a relationship that is monogamous. Mangos an ecco friendly he goes all over the world protect even protester and at the drop of a hat. Ryan and Mango see each other, Ryan is sick of Mango taking off without letting Ryan know and Ryan was in love with Mango. Mango does not do relationships but he does not do relationships. Can the finally get to get? The chemistry between them was hot and steamy,

I’m actually reading this series out of order but that hasn’t taken anything away from how great the series is in any way. Again, this book exceeds five stars and deserves praise. This author has done a remarkable job of creating this group of friends and lovers and inciting the reader in is an honor for us.

Mango and Ryan finally have their story! I wasn't sure what we might get with Mango, since he didn't behave very well with Ryan for a long time. Having him ankle deep in cat poo was a fitting start to the story. I was quite proud of Ryan when he laid down the law and let Mango know he wouldn't be taken for granted anymore. What I really liked though, is the fact that this didn't descend into silly drama. Mango and Ryan acted like adults and although he had a lot of history to overcome, Mango manned up, with a few pushes from his friends, and Ryan did listen and understand. They had actual *gasp* conversations!

They still had their moments as Mango worked to make changes and Ryan was dealing with, and hiding, a big issue of his own. This was also a little smexier than some of Susan's other books. The guys have a very healthy love life! It was also an overall positive and uplifting love story. There are troubles and struggles but also friends and laughter. Lenny and Brook are a big part of the story, and Laverne and Delilah make one of their outrageously fun appearances. We also meet Kyle, Eric and Ryan's (Susan's) favorite singer Callum (Adam!). It was a great addition to the MoL series!

4.5 Stars so rounding up to 5

I’ve really liked this entire series…all the way from book 1 but I think this book might have been my favorite (then I waffle back to books 2 and 3 and think it’s hard to pick a favorite). This one was hard to put down and quick to read. The writing was as good as the other books in the series.

I’m not going to lie…Mango’s attitude pissed me off. The way he treated Ryan – even though he claimed to care for him – was deplorable. Thankfully, Ryan thought so too and called him to the carpet. What he went through in his past is devastating...but I’m glad he finally realizes he’s going to lose the best thing that has happened to him if he doesn’t fix things, and quickly. We do get to see a sweet, romantic side of him that is totally endearing.

I love Ryan’s diva side – it rival’s Laverne. His sass coupled with his sweetness and desire for a committed relationship with Mango makes him one of my favorites! He was a bit of a twat though when he kept some important information from his friends and loved ones. Hopefully he learned his lesson though and their relationship will continue to get stronger.

The last chapter was absolutely perfect for them. It looks like Kyle and Eric may get a book, maybe next and I can’t wait for that one!

Susan Mac Nicol's Men of London series is one of my favorites. They are quick reads (mostly because I can rarely put them down).
She always has characters with flaws that are not easy to fix, one of things I love about Sue's writing. It isn't as simple as "I can't come out because..." (which is not simple per se, merely a trope that is often done). She makes the issues complex, and challenging to work through.
There were two issues with this book, stated in the blurb. Mango's fear of commitment, as well as Ryan's medical issues.
Once Mango realizes that he is going to lose Ryan through his own stupidity, he wakes up and treats Ryan as he deserves.
Meanwhile, Ryan is trying to find out what his own issues are medically, and how he will deal with them.
Sue portrayed their emotions so well (as well as her normal hot sex scenes!) by laying Mango's layers apart, and showing how Ryan finally had decided he was worth more than the way he had been treated.
Of course there was an HEA, because if Sue did not put those in there, I might never read her books again. :) But it was a realistic HEA. It gave the reader a look into what their lives would continue to be like, and how they continue to connect.
