Are there women missing from this compendium? Absolutely. There are a lot of white ladies in here. That being said, I adored this book. Not only are the portraits gorgeous, they are incredibly diverse - some more formal portraits and many artistic and "caught in the moment." Added bonus: I learned about many pioneering women that I had never heard of. It's not news that history in our public schools is notorious for leaving the ladies out and this book enlightened me on many levels. This one is a keeper, as I will definitely refer back to it for inspiration.
This book was so refreshing simply because I didn't know about half the women. Most books about women focus on the same people, so it was a good chance for me to learn about women such as Gertrude Simmons Bonnin and Anna May Wong. The photos were exquisite and it gave me a basic understanding who they all were.
