Hamish

Rate this book
A psychic. An unwilling cyborg. A powerful, hidden enemy.

Two years after awakening on a surgical table, Hamish Lockhart returns to the military with a host of cybernetic upgrades implanted by his captors. While he desperately seeks a normal life, some members of United Command view him as a weapon, a construct to use. Others aboard the HMS Jemison see him as a friend, comrade, and even brother.

When the Empress personally assigns him to investigate his own abduction, he's eager to bring his butchers to justice. But Hamish won't be alone. A Royal Navy intelligence officer is assigned to accompany him on his mission, a woman with keen wit and even greater psychic power.

As far as psionic ability goes, Nisrine's powers are virtually unmatched, a complement to Hamish's cyborg talents. Between her galaxy-wide contacts and his unparalleled hacking skills, they have the means to complete their mission -- if the enemy doesn't beat them to the truth first.

About the author

A. Payne

Alisha Payne is a Stay-at-Home-Mom with two wonderful children, a son and a daughter, and a husband serving in the United States Navy.

Her interest in writing started during her middle school years, beginning with poetry, and advanced to short stories. Later in high school, she enjoyed writing longer stories with a small group of friends, though none of their projects were ever finished.

Alisha is both an avid reader and, believe it or not, a video gamer. Her current favorites when it comes to games are Dragon Age, the Mass Effect series, anything Elder Scrolls related, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, and Fallout 3. She also likes a good hidden object style game and playing Skylanders with her son.
She owes her love of reading to her mother, who introduced her to the worlds of Pern and Xanth. She favors several authors and book genres but the following are among her favorite: Stephen King, Tolkien, Mercedes Lackey, Christine Feehan, J.K. Rowling, James Rollins, and Jim Butcher.

Good second book in the series

Still good science fiction. Again, a nice romance as a second plot. Interesting problems leads to another good story. The romance did seem very like the first in the series though.

*I received copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

Across Our Stars: Hamish by A. Payne & N.D. Taylor is a fantastic read! You can’t help but be transported to a different world while reading this book. From the beginning you’re taken along for an adventure. There’s action, thrills, twists, and a touch of romance. I personally fell in love with Hamish. He’s totally different from any man I’ve read. He doesn’t need to be one of those cocky alpha male who beats on his chest to come across a strong man. Believe me, he is all man the way he is! Hamish has been through an ordeal and he is on a mission to find the people responsible for it. Nisrine is one of my faves too! She’s intelligent and kicks butt! One of the many things I always enjoy when reading a book by these authors is that they aren’t afraid to write a strong female lead.

I can’t wait for the next book! I’m dying to know how a certain romance plays out. I’m not above hounding them till they tell me they're writing it! This is a definite must read! I give this 5 stars!

Full review to come. 5 stars all the way.
This is a fantastic follow up to Across Our Stars: Victor. The pacing is quicker and the action sequences more kick-butt.
I'll be writing more, later, but I wanted to give a shout out to tell you all this sci-fi novel is great. If you like Sci-Fi that is more character-driven than technology-driven (although there is plenty of cool tech to read about) with complex characters and a twisting conspiracy plot, then this is the story for you!
