I got several good recipes that were sugar free and heart ❤️ heathy. And I was surprised to find that beets and pineapple are loaded with natural sugars. No wonder they taste so good.
Although outdated in many places (notably the demonization of saturated fats), Sugar Busters has a lot of good material in it. It has helpful tables on pairing spices with meats and vegetables- information I don't believe I have found elsewhere- and a fairly decent variety of recipes to choose from. However, several of these recipes call for artificial sweeteners or sugar replacements, which was disappointing. I was hoping for recipes that used honey or did away with the sugar altogether, as well as some tips to eliminating sugars in baked goods. But for what this book was, it was worth the read.
I am not really qualified to rate this book medically. I was mainly interested in healthy recipes that would dovetail nicely into the Weight Watchers point system (which is low-carb, not no-carb.)
I tended to not like these recipes. The desserts used artificial sweeteners, which I avoid. They frequently used ingredients I don't like. Primarily, I think it's amazing how many of these recipes call for tomatoes!
The small number of recipes that I would try, I already have similar recipes that I am content with (and, I suspect, some of those are lower WW points)
