Is your family considering a new pet? Then this guide may be just right for you. In simple language, learn how you can tell whether you are ready for a dog, how to choose the perfect breed, how to pick a name and much more.
I grew up in a dog loving family, and although I no longer have a pet as I live in the centre of a capital city, can appreciate the excellent quality of the information in 'My First Dog'. Well done to Teddy O'Malley for creating such a user friendly guide to owning a dog, or as I would say, extending your family.
The cover is adorable, perfect for attracting a young child and encouraging them to read about the responsibilities involved in making such an important commitment. Teddy O'Malley has added more adorable photographs inside the book, a joyful addition to her useful advice. 'Dogs require time and money.' So true. Also.... 'Whatever you do, don't get a puppy because they are cuter. All puppies become dogs.' I've known a sad case where this happened. As soon as the small cute puppy turned into a large and needy dog, it was sent away. Not fair.
The potty training section is invaluable and easy to understand. This part of the book is essential reading for anyone who has never looked after an animal. Kids tend to focus on the cuddly fun part of dog owning, overlooking the work required!
'My First Dog' is a must buy if you know any children who would like to adopt a dog.
Good, sound advice for young dog lovers. I'd have loved to have read a book like this before I had my own first dog. Lots of tips, written in a simple manner, without lots of extra confusing terms and big words. Just the facts, to help kids decide for themselves if they are really ready to own a dog, and to help them understand the degree of commitment that will be required.
I loved that the book was short enough to be read relatively quickly, but that it then included lots of links where more information could be found.
Lots of great info and advice in a family's search for a new dog. It is written in a way that's easy to understand and very informative. It's also loaded with adorable photos of pups and dogs that will quickly help you decide that yes, you definitely want a dog.
This is a must get if you are planning on getting a family pet. It's also makes a nice reference, and is an enjoyable read for adults and children alike. Very helpful and well thought out. The pics are adorable too!
