Journalist Millie Mossberg has four positive pregnancy tests in her purse. Four. The problem is that Cade Reed, her aggravating — and crazy hot — colleague is the father-to-be of this secret baby. She’s got to tell him about the bun in her oven, but she’s still wishing that the pregnancy tests were duds. While they cover a story about a deposed dictator, they’re trapped in a runaway hot air balloon. Will they plummet to their death? Will these friends turned lovers admit their love for each other? And most importantly, will they figure out how to have sex in a balloon basket?
Blown Away is the hot and hilarious first novella in the Three More Wishes series. Each novella is roughly 100 pages with NO cliffhanger.
Elise Sax worked as a journalist for fifteen years, mostly in Paris, France. She took a detour from journalism and became a private investigator before trying her hand at writing fiction. She lives in Southern California with her two sons. An Affair to Dismember is her first novel.
Millie just found out she's pregnant and the father is her fellow journalist and direct competitor, Cade. Even though they constantly fighting for the next big news worthy story, they are also joined at the hip. Now she just has to find a way to tell him after she accepts that the tests are not actually wrong.
Another fun shorty from Elise Sax. I just love her portrayal of quirky heroines and the antics they get into with their heroes. The banter is fun and really have me laughing throughout the book. I love the narrator! She is perfect for these stories!
This is such a great laugh out loud, feel good story with characters that you just want to see together because the heroine was so sure they should not be. Written in only her point of view, it kept me wondering what the hero really felt and wanted but ultimately, I knew, and that actually made the enjoyment even greater as I waited for him to finally express himself. And when it came it was even better than I had hoped. Amidst all the hilarity is actually quite a bit of drama which just adds to the overall goodness factor of this story.
Hilarious. Taking Elise Sax's book I don't expect much human study or character development (especially since it was so short). But she is great at delivering entertaining romances. Some of her metaphors and descriptions made me almost pee from laughing.
So, just ignore not fully believable side plots (like an escaping dictator) and just enjoy a great time.
I really enjoyed this book and laughed out loud at some points. I received this as an ARC. Millie and Cade are good friends, but also are journalists competing with each other and she is carrying his baby. They try to get the story of an escaping dictator Samba and wind up in a hot air balloon. Samba gets out and they wind up captured by faux Antonio Banderas'. After hilarity and suspense, they deal with their predicament. Fun book!
Elise Sax has done it again! Blown Away is filled with laughs, romance, adventure, and sexy time. Oh, and sex in a balloon! You'll fall in love with Millie & Cade just like I did! I can't wait for more Summer Island romance.
I was skeptical with the blurp and the cover but was sold after the first few line. it got "the matchmaking's series" but that Sax's style. It was from A to Z with oh ha ooohhhh sexy yummy funny, just the right amount!!
Blown Away by Elise Sax is the first in a five book novella series revolving around Summer Island. She had a previous five book novella series set in Summer Island before and I enjoyed every one of those books so I was glad to be back to visit the island.
Millie Mossberg and Cade Reed are both journalists for their hometown newspaper. They've been friends and rivals since kindergarten. Their relationship is filled with laughs, snarky dialogue and smexy times as they attempt to get an exclusive interview with a former dictator. Instead they find love and adventure in a runaway hot air balloon. I cannot wait for the next one in this series.
Not a great romance, but funny in a shits-and-giggles way.
The hero and heroine have known each other their whole lives and they are competitive journalists. They both want the exclusive on some corrupt political figure who has moved onto their home island off the coast of California. He will only give the interview on a air balloon and the shenanigans begin once they're all aboard.
The whole story was unrealistic and unbelievable. With a crash landing, drug dealers and a spontaneous love confession, I didn't believe a single part of it. It was very funny in parts, so I gave it 2 stars.
I've read plenty of unbelievable plots, but I really disliked the "romance" in the book. The whole thing is from the heroine's point of view so you never see what the hero is thinking or how he feels about her. He wants to marry her in the end, but I don't think it would have happened if she wasn't pregnant.
I would recommend this for the laughs, but not the romance.
This is the refreshing, short story of Millie and Cade. They have known each other since kindergarten, and now are rival journalists. The two end up in a hot air balloon trying to scoop a story with a known terrorist and end up being "blown away". Elise Sax's sense of humor is infectious, it's so easy to get caught up in the banter between Millie and Cade, and to see their true feelings. With Millie carrying a secret with her that will change their lives, their obvious love for each other and their impending doom, this book flies by with smiles and laughs.
Angie Hickman is the perfect narrator for this story. She has a lilt in her voice that gives the perfect inflections for the book, finding the humor in all the right places. I love her pace and voices and enjoyed her performance.
This was such a cute, funny, refreshing book. Millie and Cade have known each other since kindergarten but life sure has sent them some curve balls. We follow them getting wisped away on a hot air balloon following a lead, by the way the both work for the same journalist. They end up stranded with a giant package of cocaine and are apprehended by four dealers. Through lots of sarcasm and jokes we hear them bicker lovingly back and forth. I am 100% going to read book number 2 and see where this humour filled love story takes us.
Cade and Millie have known each other since kindergarten. They have a complicated relationship, they have gone to school together, work together and spend most of their free time with each other. Cade is constantly irritating Millie by pranking her so Millie never has considered more than a friendship. One night of working late and some tequila change things. Will they be able to overcome the late night actives or will this forever change the dynamics of their relationship? Blown Away is the firs book in the Five More Wishes series. This is a fun reading novella that pulls you in. This the first book by Elise Sax I have read but it definitely will not be the last.
There's only one author capable of laugh out loud funny antics, sex in a hot air balloon and a knock out fight. Sax kept me in stiches with Millie's hysterical comments and crazy thoughts. Cade is just a comedian wrapped in a hot body pretending to be a journalist. Be prepared for a funny and relaxing read because nobody does a romantic suspense comedy like Elise Sax. This is the beginning of another hot new series and will continue right into the next book. My copy was given by the author for my honest review.
Summer Island journalists Millie Mossberg and Cade Reed spend all their time working together . . . and trying to one-up each other. They both work for the “Summer Island Gazette” and today they’re sparring over a tell-all exclusive with deposed dictator Olivier Samba [who owns property on Summer Island]. The catch? Samba wants to do the interview while floating aloft in the basket of a hot air balloon.
Both journalists end up in the balloon basket, soaring over the countryside with Samba [who lied about the exclusive] and, in an escape worthy of a superhero movie, jumps out of the basket, leaving Millie and Cade aloft, with no idea of how to operate . . . or land . . . the balloon.
Can the journalists figure out how to land the balloon? Will Samba continue to elude capture [and prison]?
The story, told from Millie’s point of view, is, at times, laugh-out-loud funny. Destined to leave readers with a smile, the outrageous plot stretches the limits of believability, but the telling of the tale is filled with snarky repartee and bickering destined to wring a smile or two from readers as the two colleagues struggle to cover their true feelings while they explore their relationship.
Recommended for readers looking for an easy read filled with chuckles and sexy fun.
Hm. While I admit that this story has some chuckle-worthy parts, I also have to say that I didn't get why some readers would call it 'hilarious' and 'hot'... Maybe I would've understood it better if the story had been longer and my mind hadn't still been somewhat occupied with my previous read...
This particular story is a short one. It's somewhat sweet as childhood friends discover that they're going to become parents after one alcohol-induced sex session. These two have never even talked about the possibility of them liking each other more than friends, but seeing as how they seem to spend every single waking moment with each other, it should be given... Maybe I simply expected more communication of the talking kind and less of the somewhat humorous banter?
PS! If you want to check it out as well, it's currently free on Amazon.
The plot makes no sense. He's a total douche, and he proposes basically just because she's pregnant. All of a sudden he "loves" her (I don't believe that for a second), and he has had a crush on her for forever. And yet, he pranks her, he bullies her, and he actually pushes her and she falls. Not cool. They get trapped in a hot air balloon, she's "afraid of heights", she pukes all over the floor and on his shoes, and the author seems to forget there was vomit all over the place where they were having sex. I didn't. It was gross. I skipped most of it, and the parts I read made me wish I had skipped it all. Also, the whole cocaine/drug dealers shenanigans were stupid and made no sense. The "funny" parts were over the top not very clever analogies (I mean, calling him "the Dumbledore of oral sex" left a mental picture I would rather forget, and now you have it too. You're welcome.), and not funny at all. She's TSTL, and I couldn't believe for a second she was a reporter. The only good thing I can say about it is that it is fortunately short. And it was free, so I didn't waste my money.
How can a story about an unexpected pregnancy be funny? It's the inner thoughts of the woman that does it. I was laughing so hard in the first chapter that I had tears streaming down my face and could hardly catch my breath. And that happened several times throughout the book. OK, there was serious stuff in there, too. Like how she was going to break the news to the daddy. That was hard enough but they had known each other since kindergarten and been rivals and playing pranks on each other all that time. So how was she going to get him to take her seriously? Then there was the deposed dictator in a hot air balloon. Now the balloon was funny but frightening, too.
If you want a good laugh, read this book. But a warning. Don't read it in public.
I had to struggle to finish this book. Yet again, a lot of steamy sex scenes - I suspect this author is a wannabe Nora Roberts. It didn't take long to read since I skimmed over most of the sexy scenes. A young journalist finds herself pregnant after a one-time encounter with her journalistic colleague. They are fighting for the exclusive on a dictator's speech, which he gives from a balloon. The two journalists end up in the balloon with him, he bails out with a parachute, leaving them sailing off with a cooler full of cocaine. Her colleague is astonished to hear he is to be a father; they still manage to figure out how to have sex in a balloon. This is the first in the Five More Wishes series - I don't think I'll be reading any more of them.
Free download I read within an hour. Definitely in the romance genre, which isn't a huge favorite, but I had forgotten my book today and just wanted something quick to read on the phone. As a freebie, no complaints, light easy style of writing , slightly amusing in places. The story besides the romance was fairly far fetched and not too interesting. And the catalyst for the romance was cliched and the opposite of romantic as far as I'm concerned, but I'm sure plenty of others would find it sweet.
5 stars for this book- Being writers for local newspaper- Millie and Cade are thrown into a hot air balloon unexpectedly. Millie being afraid of heights has a running commentary in her head that is perfectly crazy Cade - her nemesis has her best interests in mind-as long as they include him getting the exclusive. Dis I mention that they have a history? Somehow they wind up in a hot air balloon with a man who is not who he claims to be, To find out how the hot air balloon ends up or down check out Blown Away
I really enjoyed the matchmaking series, especially the characters, but this book was just silly. The story was good but I really started to dislike the main character.. she was just so silly and self absorbed. I wanted her to die and be replaced with someone else. I'll probably read the other books in this series but have to take a break and read something by another author before coming back to them.
This was my first Elise Sax's book and won't be the last. This story is hilarious! I love the two main characters, Millie and Cade. Millie is feisty and Cade is so sweet and protective! This story is fast-paced, with a little suspense. The narration is also great and easy to listen. I can't wait to listen to the next book in the Series. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
Blown Away was a good read by Elise Sax. Millie is a jouranalist who just found out that she is pregnant. Unfortunately she isn't with the babies father, Cade, who is one of her colleagues. She knows that she must tell him but she isn't sure how to do that. They are both covering a story about a dictator when they become trapped in a runaway hot air ballon. I really enjoyed listening to Milie and Cade's story and can't wait to read more by Elsie Sax.
YET Another Beautiful, Exciting, LOVE Story from this talented Author!
This was definitely an 'A1' level story! It was an enjoyable read, with many 'laugh points', but ended far earlier than I wanted it to!
The main characters are easily envisioned with one's 'mind's eye', and the scenes were vividly drawn, making them easy to 'see' as well. It also had some mild violence, and a few 'scary' portions.
I received this audiobook free for an honest review. I loved this refreshing romance. It is so cute. Elise Sax has a wonderful sense of humor that definitely comes out on the pages of this great story. She kept me laughing throughout. I wish I could remember some of the things Millie said. I could use them. The narrator did an excellent job with the characters and their personalities.
I've loved every book by Elise Sax that I have ever listened to and Blown away is another to add to that list. Throughout the entire story I am either laughing or smiling and loving the sense of humor no matter what the situation. If you need a laugh this book will definitely give you one. Angie does a wonderful job narrating and helps make it even funnier.
This laugh-out-loud story takes two reporters who are childhood frienemys on a wild adventure as their competition to get that exclusive interview leads them into danger in a mad rush across country. I've loved Sax's first trilogy of rom-coms, and this one is every bit as good as the others, a definite 5 star read.
A quick paced tale of two journalists after an exclusive interview with a known drug lord. They get more than they bargain for, plus their own relationship takes a distinct turn for something they both could have only dreamed about. I submitted this review after listening to the audiobooks for this series.
Cade and Millie have been adversaries since kindergarten. They now work at the local paper together. Both have been hiding their secret crushes that have also been going on since kindergarten. So much happens in twenty four hours that will keep you laughing and cheering on till the end.
