At seventeen, Aria Stone has broken the laws of her kingdom by refusing to come to court and offer herself as a courtesan. When guards storm Aria’s house and murder her mother, she is drugged and dragged from her home, taken to the royal palace. Aria must accept her fate: be chosen by a prince of Brayleigh or die.
Prince James is third in line for the throne and forced to follow and obey his father’s rule. King Gideon is known for running the country and his household with a strict hand. When the prince discovers the young woman brought in by the royal militia, she piques his interest, and his desire to bring her to his harem.
Aria awakens at the palace and is forced to strip down and bare herself to the king and his four sons. Humiliation is just the beginning of her journey to survive.
In a tale of murder, heartbreak, lust, and betrayal, Aria must come to terms with the life forced upon her, just as a prince of Brayleigh must recognize his power to change a corrupt system and discover the world outside of their kingdom.
Ruth Silver first began writing poetry as a teenager and reading heaps of fan fiction in her free time. She has written under three unique pseudo names and penned well over a hundred stories.
She attended Northern Illinois University in 2001 and graduated with a Bachelor's in Communication. Her favorite YA genre is a mix of Dystopian & Fantasy which is evident in the upcoming release of her latest book, Aberrant. Slated for release April 2013 by Lazy Day Publishing, it is the first in a trilogy.
I loved this book. It includes Aria who at 17 years broke the laws that is to say to go to court to offer herself as a courtesan. Then the king's guards stormed his house, murdered his mother in front of her, drugged her and took her to the royal palace. She has two choices to be chosen mar a Brayleigh prince or die. A story full of twists.
Aria's mother has tried to keep her safe from the royalty who demand access to all the young women. The King and his sons keep many women for their sexual desires. She has been hidden until now and is forced to either become one of those women or maybe even suffer worse.
James is one of the sons who participates reluctantly in the process. He notices Aria and wants to keep her safe from his brothers and father. His choosing her pushes them both into a dangerous path.
It is an interesting story line. Aria really tries to stay strong even under some very dire circumstances. You really feel for her. James is someone who cares but has not done anything to really change things either. Their attraction pushes him to make some tough choices.
I was hooked on this story from the first pages. The author does a wonderful job creating this world in incredible detail. I was truly fascinated at every turn! I felt so bad for the main heroine Aria. She really had to fight for her life at every turn. It is very fortunate she had the help of the only kind prince, James. Although, her stubbornness definitely didn't make things easy for him to keep her safe. Hold on for a whirlwind of romance, revenge and adventure in Gem Apocalypse!
