After sixteen years of living in Lowell, Zack has everything figured out - the rifts are easy enough to avoid, and he, like every other teenager, knows the stories about forest and the old military base are made up to scare little kids. He does what he wants - and his paranoid, survivalist brother Fenix has made sure he can handle anything that comes of it. Or almost anything.
When a friendly visit turns into an assassination attempt, they flee into the forest - and everything changes. The people he considers family aren't who or what he thought they were. Fenix might not even be his brother - but he is the only thing standing between Zack and a group of otherworldly knights who want him dead.
Sendrask is an entertaining combination of fantasy and action with a quest of collecting magical artifacts. The author's way of weaving together multiple universes and different fantastical characters was delightfully fresh. Sendrask is a story of family, friendship, loyalty and power and it transfers a reader into a world full of magic under the sky of beautiful nebulae.
*SPOILER ALERT*
Sendrask tells a story of Zack, an ordinary teenage boy living with his older brother. However, everything changes when Zack finds out he's actually an elf and an heir of a royal family. As if that wasn't enough, he also learns his brother Fenix is really not his brother and they both come from a world in a completely different universe. To make matters still worse, Zack is hunted by vampire and shifter knights who seem to think he is extremely dangerous. In order to prove Zack's innocence, Zack and Fenix begin a quest of collecting seven magical stones mentioned in an ancient legend. During this quest they face dangerous adversaries and need to consistently reconsider who to trust, and if they can even trust each other.
The story was well written and it was easy to follow. The characters were interesting and well thought out. Each of the characters seemed to have their own secrets and you could never be really sure who to trust and what each person's motives were. It was great to follow Zack as he learned more about his new world, his past and his lost family and his own powers. I was also happy to see he didn't completely give up his old life and friends but kept expanding his world and keeping his options open. An interesting addition to the story were Drano and Irunai, the spirits who haunted Zack and Hawke and at times took over their bodies.
As a reader I would have loved to learn more about the world of Senderinel. Now what we saw was only the Sendrask castle and a small village nearby. However, I understand that providing a detailed description of the different worlds and universes was not essential and not very convenient to the story. Perhaps we'll get to see more of that world in a possible sequel when Zack decides he is ready to return to Senderinel and embrace his title. I really enjoyed this book and wish to see the story continue. This is definitely a great read for anybody who loves fantasy books!
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
A well written sci-fi fantasy adventure of witty one-liners and a Multiverse of characters. Sendrask is a new take on swords and sorcery, religion and civilization--a breath of fresh air to the hero's journey and the collection quest. 10/10, have read again.
Good read. Story plot revolves around Zack a 16 year old boy who is thrown into a world of mystery and magic, He learns the people around him may not be who they claim to be and are hiding dark secrets. This book flows well and kept me reading to the very end:)
