Tattooed half-breed, Takayo ‘Saint’ St. John, kills for the Paranormal Security Council with single-minded efficiency. He’s never questioned or failed his assignments…until he stares into the cornflower blue eyes of Ryken Valte, the man whose life he’s infiltrated under false pretenses. Harsh words and a cold shoulder isn’t enough to keep the distance between them, but Saint’s mission hangs over his head. His job is to kill the brother of the man he loves and he sees no way out of his predicament.

Ryken melts under the intense attraction between him and Saint, but the man keeps pushing him away, denying their connection. He’d give up everything, do anything, to have Saint at his side and in his bed, but secrets bigger than them make it impossible. Ryken yearns for Saint’s surrender, but he’ll get more than he bargained for when dark forces neither comprehends return with a vengeance.

A Caribbean transplant, Avril now lives in Stone Mountain, GA., with a tolerant Spousal Equivalent. Together they raise an eccentric daughter who loves reading and school (not so much school anymore). Avril’s earliest memories of reading revolve around discussing plot points of Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys with an equally book-minded mother

Always in love with the written word, Avril finally decided to do the writing in August of ’09 and never looked back. Spicy love scenes, delicious heroes, and wicked women burn up the pages of Avril’s stories, but there’ll always be a happy ending; Av remains a believer of love in all its forms.

soulmates are super cheesy, and soulmates with curses attached are super, SUPER cheesy. and yet, i found myself really liking this one, even it was the literal definition of insta-love. the course of true love does not run wholly smooth, and ashton is excellent at angsty sexual tension.

definitely what one would call a guilty pleasure, but very good all the same.

“I don’t know what’s happening between us, but I know it scares you almost as much as it scares me,”...“I’ll go because you say it’s what you want, though we both know it for the lie that it is.” - Ryken Valte

Let's start by saying Takayo St. John (better known as Saint) and Ryken Valte are good with the sex not so good with the talking. There is a definite plot and lore in play here but it plays second fiddle to the steam between the leading men. The lore and plot aren't awful as they exist it's just something is wrong, inconsistent maybe, I can't put my finger on it. I didn't like the way the story was revealed, it's explained as Ms. Ashton deems necessary, which means it is a slow reveal. we are left with questions repeatedly, one or twice I'm fine with but more than that I need answers. Hide them from the other protagonist but not the reader. The ending is a bit gah, it feels forced, a bit rushed and inconclusive. Where are they as a couple, are they mated? Not? What just happened?

A couple of aspects I really liked. One was the decision to give the Ryken a boyfriend, a serious one at that. The mate pull can't be ignored but David raised the stakes in an already high stakes game, especially given Saint keeps pushing Ryken away. Ryken is really powerful when it comes to Saint, he makes Saint week, that felt right. Better because Ryken wasn't entirely aware of the effect he had on his lover. Oh and making Ryken a vers was smart, it suits his personality. Saint and Ryken are an interesting couple but will ultimately be unmemorable.

Fair declaration, it's part of a larger series, Paranormal Security Council which 1, I haven't read any of and 2, has different relationship dynamics. Books 1 & 3 are M/F, book 2 is M/M and book 4 is M/M/F. Because I hadn't read any of the others I'm not sure how much of the lore involved in the story is his specifically and how much of it is to the world and the series.

I don't know if my reactions to Saint's Surrender would have been different if I hadn't just finished Color Me In a deeply beautiful and thought provoking book with charming, engaging characters whose happiness I wanted. Saint's Surrender isn't any of those things. I spent a great amount of the time thinking wtf is going on and not really caring for any of the major players particularly.

I was looking forward to this book. And I liked it ... some. The problem: Saint was a prick of the highest order. An. Unapologetic. Prick. Blech. What I liked: Ryken. Sorta. I loved his character but hated that he kept taking Saint back. Scratch that. Ryken would inevitably be the one to search Saint out and beg him to come back. Uh-Uh. No. Go. If Saint had shown an ounce of compassion, I would have felt very differently. As it was, I had a hard time connecting to him and he left a bad taste in my mouth.

Bottom line: Saint was less than palatable.

Review written for MM Good Book Reviews http://mmgoodbookreviews.wordpress.com/ I was absolutely blown away by this book. Oh my where to start.. every single page was thrilling and exciting and mostly a surprise. I am genuinely impressed.
Even though this is a book two, it stood on its own extremely well. It was so good that even though I wanted to read the first I had to finish this one first.. And then the end!! OMG so hurry with thee next one!!
Here is a quick rundown. Saint is a half breed Para and works for the Paranormal Security Council. He is hired to kill Nathan a professor that lost his wife and child to shifters tragically. He is really stirring up trouble so the council has sent Saint in for the job. Easy peasy. NOT! As soon as he meets Nathan, he is introduced to his younger brother Ryken. And here is where it starts getting wild. Immediately Saint Finds that Ryken is his mate…Ryken knows that he has to have Saint. Then it gets wilder. Saint finds out that Nathan has an insider in the Council.
So do Saint and Ryken mate? Does Saint kill Nathan? Does Ryken end up hating Saint? Will Saint die if he and Ryken aren’t together? Who is the mole? Did I mention a curse that has to do with Saint and his Mate? Well you better hurry and get this book to find out.
I highly recommend this book to EVERYONE!! Especially if you love paranormal. A whole new sort too f paranormal, not run of the mill vampire or shifters, true love or mate stories, lots of twists and drama, and lots and lots of really hot mansex.!

Finding your mate only to learn you must kill his brother will certainly make family holidays difficult to say the least. Unfortunately that is the situation that Saint finds himself in. Avril Ashton certainly didn’t make the road leading to happily ever after smooth for Saint and Ryken. But one thing I can say for her, she writes a believable solution. I adored Saint. He found himself in a no win situation. He fights with and for his mate. And he does so within a code of ethics and honor that was bone deep. Ryken can’t understand why Saint blows hot and cold, but he is determined to win the man who sparks not only his body but his heart. Ryken was young and sometimes his immaturity shone a bit too bright for me. Having said that, his very immaturity fit the character; otherwise where would the growth happen? Ryken was young and he would be forced to grow up in a way that isn’t necessarily pretty. Ms. Ashton has a habit of writing situations that are not for the faint of heart and I didn’t envy her, Ryken or Saint in this tale. Saint was faced with consequences that could prove deadly, not just for him and his mate but also for paranormals at large. I couldn’t wait to turn the page to see what would happen, how will this get resolved? Would Saint fulfill his job? Could Ryken forgive the secrets? Would anyone be happy by tales end? The only way to find out is to pick up your own copy of Avril Ashton’s Till Surrender. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

So this book was okay but too much for me. Like the first book there is instant love and a lot of sex/desire, but the story is betterish. The world building still needs work, and I'm not sure I understand what para means other than not human. I also didn't get why Nathan was cool with his bro being in love with a man he just met while in a relationship with another guy. I mean he went out of his way to help them get together, even after finding out the truth he supported them. Nathan, who hates paras for killing his wife and daughter and is trying to kill all of them, was cool with them being together...

I liked the idea, Saint sent to kill someone and finding out the brother of the intended victim is his mate was interesting. Even that R came off as young, and was in a relationship with someone when he meets Saint, was interesting (though the cheating made me uncomfortable). The thing with the tatoos weren't so much intersting as cheesy, so cheesy, and I hate cheesy.

It was nice seeing the characters intereacting with the characters from the first book. And Saint actually mentions safe sex which was much appreciated. I'm going to read the next one because I'm a fool.

I liked the world and the characters were all interesting, which made it disappointing when the story ended without resolution. I was expecting 119 pages of story, but the last dozen or so pages were a "coming soon" excerpt. I have to admit that I didn't read them because I was disappointed with the abrupt ending -- the excerpt is probably perfectly good. I see now that the plot arc for this book was the romance, but I was expecting some resolution to the mystery too. Especially since I'm not a big fan of "instant love" in general.

This is Book #2 & I didn't read Book #1. Maybe if I had I would've known what to expect. I'll probably give this author another shot at some point, because I did like the world and characters.

This read more like a siren romance than anything I've read by Avril Ashton before. It was the whole insta-love mating thing with lots of angry sex. Love me some angry sex! So while not one of my favorites from her it was definitely interesting enough to continue with the series, especially after that ending.
