Arbortext Monster Garage #1

Arbortext 101: Best Practices for Configuring, Authoring, Styling, and Publishing with Arbortext

Rate this book
This book covers the basics for getting Arbortext products configured correctly, so you can get started right away, without help from consultants and service partners. This book details the custom directory and points out the essential files new users need to know about. These files and folders are the keys to further configuring your environment, and customizing it (if you absolutely need to). This book is not meant to replace the product documentation because, at well over 5000 pages, the complete Arbortext documentation covers much more than the basics. The product documentation can also be intimidating enough that it hinders speedy adoption for new users and leaves them at risk of using fragile environments and depending on consultants and service partners for even the most basic understanding. The toughest thing about learning any new software package is shifting your perspective or Either you try to force the software to do things that fit your current situation through extensive customization ("Same Mess, Different Tools") or you adapt and change your processes to incorporate not only the new software but the new paradigm it represents. Our opinion is that you shouldn't need to customize and for 90% of technical documentation needs advanced customization is never required. For the average use case, Arbortext works great right out of the box. This book shows you how to get started quickly in the most effective and most beneficial (to you) way possible. (And decrease your need to be dependent on consultants when you're first starting out.) This book will show you how to shift your understanding so that you can make the most of your investment in your world. By getting this brief introduction to the product suite and the key folders and files, not only can you get started right away but you know where to go in the product documentation to understand more. If you’re a brand new Arbortext user and feel that most of your technical publication needs are similar to 80-90% of technical publications out there, this book is for you. Even if you’ve got more complicated needs, this book is still for you. It doesn’t matter what industry or what country you’re Arbortext is used by customers in every industry in countries all around the world.

My first book -- Arbortext 101: Best Practices for Configuring, Authoring, Styling, and Publishing with Arbortext -- is ready! I cover everything you need to know to get started. This is for everyone who ever had a consultant tell them "that's too hard, you can't do it yourself." Yes, you can.
