Sequel toSecond Alpha

The winds of change are blowing through the River Wolf Pack compound. River, the pack alpha, has allowed rogue wolves, a coyote shifter, and humans to join the pack. Then there’s the twin girls that Josiah, River’s mate, has given birth to. A movement to return to more traditional werewolf ways is gaining momentum.

In exchange for Leo’s help, Stone offers him the position of second alpha should Stone succeed in usurping River as pack alpha. Leo has his own problems -- his desire to rise within the pack wars with his dislike of Stone. With the addition of Sam and Foster into the mix, Leo’s personal life is no less complex.

Jax knows he must make a difficult decision before he’s turned out of the compound. Should he remain human or accept David’s bite? He loves the alpha wolf, but he also has ties to the human world, ones he doesn’t want to sever. When David discovers Brooks is considering mating Stone, David determines to prevent it. Can Jax provide a solution to Brooks’s problem even if it means sacrificing his own happiness?

Can River remain in charge of an increasingly fractured pack? Does he even want to?

3.5 hearts!

This book contains three different, but overlapping stories told from four different POV’s, and I devoured this in just a couple of hours!! I was so enthralled in all these characters lives and stories I just couldn’t put it down! So why the lower rating? There was just too much story to it fit into a normal length novel. This means we end up getting a shortened version of each story, which, while still enjoyable, isn’t what I would’ve preferred.

It'll probably be easier to highlight each story, as they all focused on different characters but everything was told along the same timeline. This means we would end a chapter on one story but not get back to those characters for a few chapters, and because the progress of the story was constantly moving forward, we miss important relationship developments. This was probably a bit of a rate remover for me.

Josiah and River’s story was probably my least favourite of this book. River is dealing with an impending uprising due to his decisions to harbour outcasts and willingness to talk with humans. Also the birth of his and Josiah twin girls (there are no females among werewolves) have left him out of favour with many of his pack. This tension was an underlying theme throughout all the stories. It was nice seeing some of Josiah’s POV again, and he and River were as hot as ever, but with the other two stories holding my interest, I was happy we saw these two less.

The next story was David and Jax. This ended up being my favourite, probably because it evoked a lot of different emotions in me. Frustration, anger, understanding, sympathy, joy….. so many. David and Jax pretty much pick up where they left off in Second Alpha. They are both secure in their love for each other, but they literally can’t live in each other's world. What makes things worse in this book is Jax has decided he doesn’t want to be a werewolf, so he’ll never be accepted by the pack, and David will never be able to have children.

This story above all others should have been it's own novel, but instead it gets the least page time. Like I said, so many emotions, and all of them conveyed really well, but a lot of really important events were told as a series of highlights which just got me frustrated.

Sam, Leo and Foster: this story started out being my favourite, but while I loved them to begin with, once the ‘consummating’ occurred, it sort of fizzled. Sam and Foster (who we met in Second Alpha) are both outsiders and have been welcomed into the pack by River. They’re like brothers to each other…. brothers who occasionally suck each other off. Then there's Leo, the alpha. He finds both Sam and Foster attractive, but hasn't ever pictured himself having anything other than a beta mate. I can’t give too much away, but I enjoyed reading about how all these individual relationships progressed, and I did not pick how it was going to end.

As before, all of the sex is insanely hot! I also really really liked how none of the story lines ended how I thought they would, but everything still ended well. I think there is room for more in the series, which I’ll definitely be interested in reading.

Each of the three stories were entertaining, and each had elements of a great story, however it would’ve been much better if they were individually written so things didn’t feel as rushed.

They would form a pack in which humans lived beside werewolves, females beside males.

This is book Three is Rebecca James "River Wolf Pack" series and I have to say it is my favorite book yet! In this book we get to see all of our characters from Books one and two and catch up with them while meeting and falling in love with new characters. If you have not read books one and two in this series, you will not fully understand this book.

The characters are many in this book, River & Josiah - along with their twins; David & Jax, The Omegas; Briar and Kane; Liam and Sawyer; Brooks, Leo, Sam, Foster, Farrah the healer, and more..so it's a very full story. This story also gives us more insight to another Pack, Milo's Pack -The Angel Hills Pack.

The love matches in this story are many and then the coupling off to just romp in the woods happen too. The testosterone is flying high in this book as the pack starts to implode and infighting begins as other Alpha's question whether a River is being too lenient and making decisions based on his Omega Josiah's desires rather than for the good of the pack. There is also the issue of this makes River's choices even more scrutinized by those Alpha's in the pack who would like nothing more than to be the new Pack Alpha.

I am a tad upset about the ending - as I wish there were more questions answered but I can only hope that means we have more books coming. I was a little frustrated with Jax and his wishy-washiness over whether to take the bite and be with David fully or to let David go on with his life and Jax return to his; however, I think they have reached a happy medium for now. This has been a fun series thus far, with lots of hot as hell sex - these guys really are almost over the top. If polygamy or certain animalistic traits bother you, this story may not be for you - I enjoyed it however.

This book is awesome and if you want to know why it’s because it is a completely new take with a brand new formula on writing a series.

The first book is about Josiah and River, the second about Jax and David and I was kind of guessing the third would be about Xavier and Trace or (and this is after finding out the title) about Malcolm, Danny and Zane. But this book is not about a particular couple even though the story is still first and foremost a romance. This series has taken the road less travelled and now tells the story of a pack and its members taken as a whole instead of focusing on just one member's love story while have an arc concerning the pack forming the background of the series. This series has taken the background and brought it centre-stage and that is something that has really paid off in this book.

So what do I mean by all that, well what I feel is that this series is now telling a much bigger story than that of just its pack members. It is now firmly on the path of telling the story of a pack disintegrating, torn between the conservatives and radicals, and on a much bigger scale sends a message of tolerance.

As we have seen in the past two books, River has been making efforts to assimilate and extend relations between weres and humans and how events have come to unfold in the wake of this change. But you can only take the horse to the water. The increasing changes have made most pack members conservative, wishing for a swift return to earlier ways. In the foreground of this political turmoil things have reached the tipping point for the River Wolf Pack.

Also this time we have four POVs. We are already familiar with Josiah so getting back in his mind was awesome but things are difficult with River and Josiah given that their daughters are the only females in their pack and represent a radical change in werewolf society. So things are on the roll for Josiah and River as they try to make their family acceptable…

…and then there is Jax. We had David’s perspective in the previous book so it was nice to see their relationship from Jax’s perspective. Jax’s place in the pack has always been questionable and being the only human in the pack has been a prickly experience. But these two are anticipating the worst (the end) and what I loved about this story was that it was kind of leading us to believe something else but it ended up with something completely different which took me by surprise, but then ended up shocking me by how natural that particular turn of events was.

What I loved is that even though we dealt a lot with Jax and David in the previous book their relationship hadn’t finished evolving and still is and we are just going to have wait and watch where this relationship will take these two. Some of the scenes between David and Jax were just so emotional it’s amazing the relationship these two share, and how much it has changed and yet remained the same.

And bringing up the rear are come Foster, Sam and Leo with their weird love triangle…? While things are initially very unclear on that front, these three are the focus of this book. Sam and Leo are the other two POVs in this book and they really held their own as protagonists especially since they were competing with seasoned protagonists for attention.

But what I adored about this story was the focus on the pack and the political and romantic ambitions of its members. There are a lot of characters in this book interacting in different ways with our MCs. The River Wolf Pack is on the verge of change and this book is the ride to see if they will accept it or reject it.

After finishing this book, I can’t wait for the next book...

The exciting finale of the previous book in this series - Josiah giving birth to twin girls - left me knowing some major crap was going to go down in book three. No female werewolves exist and for the strongest among them, their alpha, to have human babies strikes a blow to River's power structure within the pack. The faction within the Congress that still wants all werewolves exterminated is going strong and this pack upheaval isn't helping anything. Oh boy!

River doesn't seem to be taking the pack's disgruntlement seriously and Josiah can't figure out how to get River to see the problems. Leo is frustrated because River gave him the job of watching over Foster, a coyote shifter beta, and Sam, a new omega pack member. Leo is finding himself attracted to both of these men but that's not how he saw his life plan going. ('Cause, yeah, that always works out!) Jax and David are still struggling through their relationship while the pack grumbles louder that if Jax isn't going to take the bite then he shouldn't be there. Not to mention that Jax's insistence on topping at least half the time leaves David's wolf very uncomfortable. (In case you're wondering, I didn't like Jax any more this time around.)

It was interesting the way the author wrote each chapter in a different character's perspective. It allowed me to see all the things going on behind the scenes, so to speak, but still keep the big picture in my head. I liked the way the author resolved a lot of the issues that had been plaguing River, Josiah, and the pack, although some of the resolutions made me sad. (And, okay, I liked Jax better by the end.)

I can't say I was surprised by the ending. I was sad but hopeful, too, and I'm really, really, wishing the author is going to do a spin-off so I don't have to lose track of my favorite wolves. Thank you, Rebecca, you did a great job and I adored every moment of the ride.

I read through this book in one afternoon, I just couldn't help it. All of the suspense building from book 1 and book 2 and now I finally get to figure out what happens!!! But lets be completely honest, half of the reason I wanted to read this one so bad is to find out a) is Jax gonna suck it up and find a way to be with David, and b) what the hell is going to happen to Brooks.

I guess this one answered both of those questions. And I have to say... I'm a little bittersweet about it.

7623925.gif

The way Rebecca James writes these characters includes all of their imperfections... and Jax definitely has imperfections. But none of that matters because he loves David so completely that he would give up everything, including his own happiness, to make sure that David gets what he wants.

I mean... when Jax topped...

13831647

And the way David loved it... ugghhhhhh.

I really don't know how this book could have been better. It was by far the best one in the series. I'm sure we all have agreed to hate a certain Alpha a**hole with four mates, no? I was simultaneously shocked and proud with the way that one turned out.

I loved the way that this book switched between the perspectives of everyone in the pack, rather than just focusing on two wolves. In that sense, I got a feel for who a character was and how other people perceived him, which for Leo, was completely different.

The way that Sam talked about Leo vs. reading from Leo's perspective was a complete trip. I could've sworn that they were two completely different guys, both named Leo. But this is part of what I'm talking about when I'm saying that Rebecca writes from the heart of her characters rather than looking at the story as an author. The Leo that Sam talked about was exactly the way that Sam saw him, and knowing that what Leo thinks vs. what he actually does is different gives him a much more dynamic personality. These are the types of characters that really pull you into their world. I loved this book.

per-fect

My hope for the next book (and I'm hoping there's a next book...) is that we figure out

Re-read. Yep, still love. Review still holds.

----------------

Love the complexity of this author's stories. She really did Jax's dilemma over whether he wanted to be bitten justice. There was no easy fix and no cop outs. I loved that. Would be very interested in following the new pack as they make their way. Oh, and I want to read about Justin and Milo as well. Yummm. Very proud of River and was super excited to have Xavier and Trace join at the end. Absolutely love Leo and Sam together. Love the David family unit, and I can't wait for Brooks to become a dad!

Book: Third Mate
Author: Rebecca James
Series: River Wolf Series
Rating: 4.5 Stars

I have loved every book in this series but this one definitely my favorite one due to the storyline being complex and full but handled so well you just never want to leave this world! This one is filled with more couples (and previous ones), more babies (who doesn’t want babies?), more bad guys (and they aren't just human), and enough angst and unrest to make you sit on the edge of your seat!

In the last book we got to see the birth of River and Josiah’s twin girls and the ripple effect their birth caused throughout the human and wolf worlds. Not only because they are girls but because they may not even be shifters which just gets the hackles up on some of the wolves in the River Wolf pack. So much change in what seems like a short time for the wolves, even if to some the change is needed, the wolves are starting to doubt their Alpha's ability to keep them safe for humans and rogues alike.

This story is about David and Jax; does Jax finally stand up for his man and find a way to stay with him? Does Brooks somehow fit into the equation or is he the thing that pushes Jax completely out of the picture?

This story is about River and Josiah; Do they win against the part of the pack that wants their twin girls out of the picture? Do they agree that the rogues that they took in need to get out the pack? NAd in order to do all of this does River have to step down as Alpha?

This story is about Leo and Sam and Foster; Does Leo finally step up and claim to the two young men he’s drawn to? Does Sam tell Leo how he feels about him or will his heat change the name of the game? Does Foster stay in a pack of wolves with Leo and Sam instead of finding his true mate in another coyote pack?

With all that goes in this story you are never left bored and you are NEVER left confused, a difficult task with so many POV’s but truly the author accomplishes the task perfectly! So many questions need answering because each one changes the path the wolf community is going on. Each one of these couples are going through huge changes and lots of stress but it never seems that everything will get tied up in a neat perfect bow because these characters are not perfect. They are complex and complicated much like their storylines.

The Jax and David continued dynamic was freaking hot especially when Jax topped and David loved it! This author knows how to write a bad guy too because I truly despised and wish bad things to happen to a certain wolf more than once and more than one truly horrible way! Getting to know Leo, through both his own point of view and through that of Sam’s, was truly a walk in complexity is both sweet and tough, strong and soft. What this tells is that the author writes from the heart of each character just just with a writing goal in mind. I would say I hope there is a next book but in this instance I DEMAND another book because there are unanswered questions that I NEED answers for!! Plus you know Foster, or you don’t know but if you want to know...read this series!

Spoiler Ahead This was book 3 in the "River Wolf Pack" series and there was a lot of changes going on in the pack. With the birth of their twin girls River and Josiah both no that the pack is not happy because they had girls and were's are born male and some of the pack members are still unhappy that River mated with Josiah because he is half-human and they also don't like the fact that River let rogues into the pack. They also don't like that Foster who is a coyote shifter into the pack as well. The pack also doesn't want the humans to come into to the pack including Jax who steal doesn't want to take the bite from David and because of this it is causing problem in their relationship. Stone who is an Alpha in the pack is causing trouble he wants more mates he stalks Brooks. When Sam goes into heat another Alpha Milo from another pack wants to claim him but Leo won't let him so Leo claims Sam or rather he puts his scent on him but when he is still in heat he goes to dinner and it starts again and Stone wants him. When Stone's omega request to have his bond broken Stone attacks River and he is kicked out of the pack and his mates are all happy. Jax encourages David to take Brooks as a mate. This book has some really hot sex scenes in it. River and Josiah decide to leave the pack and start over somewhere else they leave the twins with his friend Mark and his girlfriend Beth. This was a good book it is well written with no errors in grammar or spelling like the first two books in this series. I am hoping and looking forward to reading the next book in this series or a spin off with the other packs.

4.5*
This is the third book in the Wolf Pack series and without a doubt, these books just keep getting better and better.

More couples are forming, more babies are being had, more bad guys are sticking their oar in (not a euphemism) and the unrest in the pack increases due to the newcomers, the ever present humans and of course Josiah and Rivers twin girls. It’s all happening and River just isn’t able to please everyone. This instalment really had me on the edge of my seat as there just didn’t seem any way for an HEA without some drastic changes.

The author did well with the ending she gave us and although it would be an appropriate close to the story, there is so much scope to come back with at least one more book to let us know what happens next. I for one am really hoping that is the case here. This feels like the beginning of an entirely new chapter rather than an ending.

Poor editing, but really good storyline

Despite the need for editing for this series, I really do enjoy the storyline throughout this series. I am off to read either the Cascade City or Angel Hills series; whichever is next 😃

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

There is a lot of stuff happening in Third Mate, the third book in the River Wolf Pack series. However, I really enjoyed it. It wasn’t hard to keep up with at all, and I was really sucked into the story. When I reviewed Second Alpha, I didn’t mention a lot about Stone’s machinations, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t talk about Foster and Sam at all. Leo was also a non entity. That’s ok, though. You’ll be able to fully understand everyone because A) You’ve read the first two books in the series, and I highly recommend that, or B) There is enough exposition to help you not be lost.

I don’t want to give away too many spoilers, so I’ll try to break some things down briefly, but not go into too much detail. River and Josiah are in trouble, here. It seems as if River is losing control of the pack. Stone, and quite a few of the other wolves don’t like what he’s been doing lately. They seem to be particularly upset that his and Josiah’s babies are girls. These pack members consider the babies to be abominations. I was really angry about this. How can anyone hate little babies? This was definitely not a good situation for River to be in.

This book was provided by the author via IndiGo Marketing & Design in exchange for an honest review.

This third book in the River Wolf Pack series has the pack in full unrest. Stone, a hateful alpha in the pack who wants to take over the pack is causing lots of trouble for River. Meanwhile, Jax still doesn’t want to take the bite and become a werewolf, but he’s found a way that he can make David happy and give him what he wants. It turn out in the end, that it’s what Jax wanted too. The pack is still at odds over human, half-were half-human, and females being involved in the pack but River and his supporters come up with a simple solution that will lead them in a new direction.

As with the other books in this series, this one will have your book smoking in your hands. These guys are hot together! Polygamy is natural for the weres so if you like M/M/M you won’t be disappointed. Things really come to a head in this one with the animosity in the pack so there is a lot of action here. I’m very much looking forward to the next book in this series. This has been a fantastic series so far and I’m looking forward to see where the author takes me from here.

So, in case you guys didn’t notice, I got things a little backwards here. I didn’t even realize I did it until the other book was up. This is the end of the River Wolf Pack, and the start of the Angel Hills one, which is on the blog from the other day. Even knowing what was coming, it was still so hard to read this book. So many things broke my heart and continued to break it at the end. It’s still a great book don’t get me wrong, but it’s hard to see the happy endings with what is coming and what is going to happen at the end.
River’s pack has been going through some rough times lately. It started with trying to make an alliance with the humans, which resulted in River mating the half human-half wolf, Josiah. And although they’ve mostly accepted Josiah, the birth of their females has made things a whole lot worse. No females are werewolves. They’re all males and all homosexual. Except for one they know of, which led to Josiah. On top of that, more humans are staying around. Jax, who is with David, refuses to take the bite, and Trace, even though he is now wolf, was a human who took the bite. And that’s part of it too. Then add the rogues, a coyote and more meetings with humans, and River is about to lose his pack. The bad part is the one he may lose it to, would be the worst alpha leader ever. And everyone is trying to convince River it’s time to step down and go somewhere else. Where those who love River and Josiah and the kids, those who don’t mind the humans, etc, can go and live in peace, like they should be. But will River’s alpha pride be his downfall or will he finally agree?
I hate how this book went. I know the members of the pack weren’t happy either. This story comes from many points of view and all are having a hard time with what’s happening. Many want to leave, to the point of drastic measures if need be. Many are siding with the opposition, thinking the changes that are being made are wrong. And those that want to stay with River and support him are practically begging him to do something. Something has to give. And it breaks my heart at how it had to be. But sometimes you have to break away from the toxic in order to get what you need and what you should have had all along. It’s hard. No one likes change. I don’t care who you are, no one really likes change. And knowing things are going to be different, gives some a ray of hope, but for others, it’s uncertainty. Because they are stuck in a situation they can't get out of right now.
Like I said, it’s a hard ending. If you’re like me, you will need tissues. But just know there is hope on the horizon, and with the Angel Hills pack, you will see it’s already starting to change. It’s not an easy change. There are gains and unfortunately, many losses. But in the end, hope for the better.

This is the third and last book in the : River Wolf Pack

This was another decent read from this Author this third book was really good but sad . I could understand where the wolves were coming from so I couldn't fault them . But what happened to River and Josiah was just plain wrong River was a great Alpha but his pack turned on him and his mate . I feel that the pack will definitely come to regret their choice . But I also hope that River and his new pack make a better life for themselves and River and Josiah get their girls back .

Not going to leave a rating on this one since I didn't really read the whole book. Basically just read Josiah and River's sections and then the last chapter because I really wasn't interested in the other matings. I just wanted to know what happened. Not really happy with how it turned out. Felt really bad for River and how the pack treated him.

Horrible ending

This was more like a collection of short stories the a readable novel. So much made sense at like why are they walking if they have a car?
The whole no technology thing didn't make sense either. There are many ways to have power and not be on the grid. This author could benefit from beta readers alot.

This book was provided by the author via IndiGo Marketing & Design in exchange for an honest review.

I give this book a solid 3 stars for the action. Other reviewers have already mentioned the proofreading issue...hoping this gets corrected in later editions.

This book is a part of very connected series and I wouldn’t recommend reading books out of order.

**I am all about that A/B/O life and no story would be complete without slick, uncontrollable heats, and the struggles of explaining how men get impregnated and give birth! I wouldn’t recommend this book for anyone who can’t appreciate this genre as a guilty pleasure free of guilt and full of PLEASURE!**

Now onto the book. The story takes place in an alternate universe in which werewolves are known to exist and have a hostile relationship with humans. Things have only gotten worse for the members of the River Wolf Pack. The birth of River and Josiah’s twin girls combined with pack’s uneasiness of all the new member, and finally Stone’s growing campaign to take River down, are wearing onto the cast of wolves. In the meantime, Leo, a mid-level pack member with ambitions of one day becoming pack leader, must balance his ambition and loyalties…as well as his growing lust for new pack member and omega Sam and his friend coyote shifter Foster. In the meantime, human Jax knows he has to make a decision before the pack turns him out but he may have finally found a way to make David happy. Add the drama the introduction of another pack of wolves and increasing pressure from the city and you’ve got the all the drama one book can handle.

When we left our band of merry wolves in book two, nothing was resolved…if anything, things were just getting worse. Most of this book is told from the perspective of the new characters, mainly Leo, Sam, Foster, and Brooks. Leo is a bit of a dope…all UST for Sam and Foster but seemingly honor bound to protect them from his rampant lust. Sam on the other hand has the emotional mood swings of a 13yr old girl…one minute he wants Leo’s attention and the next moment, he can’t stand to be the center of Leo’s focus or feels threatened by Leo’s interest in Foster. Foster on the other hand is completely oblivious to Leo and Sam and instead dreams of finding the soulmate who calls to him. I have to admit that I found Brooks a bit of fresh air. He seemed to be the only practical person in the entire book (possibly series). Having made the decision to put his emotional attachment to David on the shelf, he finds his choice of mate limited. What if becoming a member of Stone’s harem is the only option left to him after he pined after David so long. David and Brook’s BFF Leo are understandably shocked and appalled by the choice, but they aren’t really willing to do anything about it honestly. Things have a way or working themselves out though.

My favorite two scenes in the book are and . I’m not going to lie though, I’m so over River and Josiah at the point, even if they make for hot sex scenes…I was more interested in seeing action between the folks in this story. Which brings me to my biggest disappointment in the book. I was like HUH!?!?! I mean I couldn’t help but feel cheated after their kiss in book two and all the seesawing back in forth in book two and most of book three between David and Jax. Speaking of which, I don’t know if it was because I read the books two and three so close together, but I was exhausted by Jax’s increasing indecisiveness about leaving by 1/3 through the way of book three. I wanted him to say that could or couldn’t be worked out.

Despite my prediction in book two, the cast of characters could and did get bigger. I did an okay job of trying to keep up with them. The good news is now that we’ve meet the Alabama pack, there will possibly be a whole new world to explore when the River Wolf pack story is over. Book three’s ending for me wasn’t too sad, in fact I found it quite hopeful. If I can put in one small request though, I mentioned it in book one…we need more world building. I felt even more lost about what lay outside the RWP compound by the end of book three…and now that we may see more…I think it’s time to invest in a few chapters or storylines that tell us what is going on. Who is the Human-Werewolf congress? What is Mark doing? What was Jax doing? How will the group survive? Why don’t they have a car or camper? Will they be on foot? Where are they going? Why? Please Please Please!!!

I’m kinda sad to be finished with the first three books of the series. RJ is possibly already at work at the next installment (YAY) and I can’t wait to see what happens going forward.

Third Mate

In the third book in the series, aptly name Third Mate, we are given not only the continuing story of Alpha River and his mate First Omega Josiah, but also of David, Second Alpha and his human lover Jax. We also find out more about Leo (Third Alpha) and the Omega Sam along with Sam's best friend, coyote shifter Foster.

While Alpha River and Josiah have been busy tending to their newborn twin girls, the pack has grown increasingly unsettled. Between allowing humans on pack grounds and the Alpha accepting Rogue shifters into the pack the pack has started questioning whether or not River has their best interests at heart. Now though many are ready to call for River to step down, they can't allow the female abominations being born into the pack to stay. They don't care that they are their Alphas offspring, females have no place in a werewolf pack.

Jax is still stalling on accepting the bite from David. He knows it's what David wants, what he needs but he just can't bring himself to do it. With the pack in conflict over Jax being human and staying on pack land as David's lover, Jax is wondering if their relationship will have to end soon. He loves David and wants him to be happy. He'll do what's necessary for that to happen, but does that mean he'll need to go against his decision and become a werewolf after all?

Leo has been tasked with taking care of Foster and Sam and while he resents it just a bit, he can't deny the fact that he is starting to grow protective of the two. With Sam approaching his first heat, Leo is finding he is becoming increasingly attracted to the Omega. He's never wanted an Omega mate but the closer he grows to Sam not to mention Foster the more he realizes he has little choice in the matter.

While at first I was a little wary of so many characters and couplings, I quickly found myself completely drawn into the story and didn't struggle with the "who's who?" after all.

I definitely think before reading this book you need to read the first two, there is a lot of insight into pack dynamics and the humans vs. werewolves politics that are explained in books 1 and 2. This is an entirely different world than what we live in and I think the author did a wonderful job creating such vivid details that easily bring it to life. The characters are well thought out as well as the story as it's progressed throughout the series so far.

I am excited to see what is in store for the pack in the future. Where the road leads them and their relationships. I also am anxious to see what is in store for River and Josiah's twins, I know there has to be something extra special about the little girls.

Would I recommend Third Mate? Yes. If you are a fan of paranormal romance, shifters, ABO dynamics and mpreg this is a fun and sexy read.

4.5 Stars!

This is the third book in the River Wolf Pack series and is not a standalone, although this is predominately about Leo, you will need to read the prior books to keep up with the story line and other characters.

Leo is an Alpha and has aspirations comparable with his standing. His best friend is a Beta called Brooks, but he has eyes on the waif Sam, who recently joined the pack and is now in his charge with Foster, another recent arrival - who is a coyote shifter. New arrivals and more human visitors are causing tension and peace starts to unravel at an alarming rate as number of Alpha's start to question River's suitability for the role. River and Josiah's pups are not helping his dominance, or his manner with Josiah. In particular, Stone, a thoroughly unlikable pain in the arse, is making himself heard as he would like nothing more than to be the new Pack Alpha.

The vast array of characters in the book can become quite overwhelming at times and I had to stop and think at times who was who. When Milo arrives from the Angel Hills Pack, a series of events occur that brings some resolution to Stone, Leo and even David - but I feel it actually opens more questions than it answers and the book ending only adds to my frustration!

Again, this was an entertaining read, but the ending came far too soon and with little warning and the biggest "WTF is that all about?" that I've experienced in a long time. I have become invested in these characters over the last three books and just as it starts to get serious, it ends in a fade to black which leaves you hanging - I have a list of questions begging to be asked and wondering if they will ever be answered?? ARGH!!! I don't know if there is another booked planned, but was so disappointed that there was not an epilogue or even a hint of anything further down the line - I just feel a little cheated and the plot-bunny has scored a 3-all *meh*.

Third Mate by author Rebecca James is the third book in the River Wolf Pack. This one is just not my favorite of the series. There are huge things being set up, and a lot of familiar faces. You really do have to read this series in order. I also felt some of the trios being formed have uneven relationships. Specially the one I was waiting for to happen.
David and Jax have been dancing around the fact David and Brooks have an attraction for a long time now. Jax is a human and does not want to become a wolf. But he has to keep leaving the compound to be in the human world, David is not wanting any part of that but would for Jax. Then there is Brooks a wolf who loves David, and would do anything for him. When he joins these two, the relationship feels uneven, and unfair to Brooks. Jax does not really want him a part of the relationship, but David does, it just does not jive.
There is another trio that feels forced too, we have River, Josiah their twin girls. Weird how this relationship brings soo much turmoil to the rest of the pack. I just wished this whole book did not leave me feeling like nothing was working right. There is great writing, just I think too many people and not enough back story to them and time with them to make this situation work. I hope in the next book some of that is fixed. I really love this series but this book is just jumbled to me and left me going huh?

Just like the other books, this is a series and needs to be read in order.

I was torn with this one.

Normally when writing my reviews I try to give nothing away in said review, but the end of this book, although I see the overall logic. One man/wolf can’t take on a whole pack. It wasn’t a whole pack. And that man had people to back him up. So I didn’t agree with turn tale and running, as it were.

Through out this book, we have beginning and endings, starts of relationships, seeing the ending of others. Start and ending of friendships. New leaderships and old ones removed. The one thing that is consent with all these books is the strong writing throughout. Rebecca James is a wonderful wordsmith.

These characters all mesh well with each other, you can feel the tension coming from the pages as more and more pack members come to realize that the girls may not be wolf after all. The feelings of desperation from Stone’s mate as he begs to be released. The sadness and love from David and Jax.

The animosity the humans still feel towards the ‘were’ people. plays a big role in this, we feel like it’s coming to a head, all of it. But then the book ends. So many unanswered questions, and a wolf pack left without a home. You better believe I’ll be looking for a book 4

Wow this book was amazing. There is so much drama and so much mistrust that this book makes for a very exciting read.

There is more then one character in this book that is the main character of this read and each has their own set of problems anywhere from having the first set of girls being born in the pack, to fighting the attraction that is there for another and not really wanting it to be, to having a human lover and the majority of the pack against him being in their compound.

I have to say that my favorite set of drama in this book is the pack turning against their Alpha and everyone of the pack members having decide who they will support. Some choose to follow the new way of life and others choose to stick with the way things have always been. It is causes a major discontent amongst all members of the pack and leaves so much tension that it will likely explode.

Rebecca James does an amazing job on this book and I look forward to the next book in this series.

I received a copy of Third Mate by Rebecca James via Indigo Marketing & Design in exchange for an honest review. This is the third in the River Wolf Pack series. It follows all the characters from the previous two books, but they find themselves in extremely different circumstances. One main focus is on Leo and the two new adopted members of the pack, including Foster, the coyote shifter. The other focus is on David and his relationship issues. It is difficult to write about this book without including spoilers. It is a deeper book than the previous two, while still just as hot. I was not sure the author would be able to pull off a HEA for all the important characters, but James did in a satisfying way that did not feel forced at all. While this might be the end of the series, there are a couple of issues left unresolved, but nothing that could leave the series incomplete. I’ve enjoyed the series because James was able to find new variations on the werewolf trope to keep the reader engaged.

I was given this book free for an honest review.

This is the third book and I will admit that I have read them back to back. How could I not, the author has created such an engaging story line. Werewolves who live almost completely independently of both humans and other shifters are suddenly dealing with both on a continual basis. Who are the good guys? Who are the bad guys? Seems both species have both, and how it effects each other lead to some great story lines. The sex that is mixed in is hot too.

You have David and Jax still trying to work out their relationship. Brooks trying to find where he fits in. Leo, Sam and Foster dancing around each other. Josiah and River dealing with twin girls and pack politics.

The ending surprised me and made me realize that there is even more of this wonderful world to come. There's no cliffhanger, but the ending opens up several avenues for the story to go next. And yes I will be waiting for the next one, to continue this wonderful story.
