Something I Need

Jonte Williamson has a dream: become Nashville’s next big star. Finding herself unexpectedly homeless hot off the plane wasn’t part of her grand plan.

Cash Bellini is a simple man: he loves his twin sister, Dolly, hates country music, and stays far away from anything more complicated than that.

When Jonte stumbles into Cash’s bar, helping out the homeless country music wannabe is the last thing on his agenda. Pity someone forgot to send the memo to his too-big heart and meddling twin. Throw in a pair of baby blue cowboy boots, a pool table and a splash of tequila, and these two are set to ignite in a hot sexy mess! Will either of their hearts survive the tug-o-war between what they want and what they need?

*I received a free digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*

This was a wonderful start to what I hope is a long series by author, Lena Lowe.

Hoping to find success as a singer, Australian Jonte arrives in Nashville and promptly finds herself stranded with no place to stay. She soon wanders into a bar owned by what she sees as a rarity in Nashville, a man who doesn’t like Country music. Cash can’t help himself when it comes to Jonte and finds himself helping out the stranded Aussie despite the fact that he should probably stay far away from her given his attraction to her. But he can’t seem to resist and soon the relative strangers start to become more.

I have to confess that it took me awhile to warm up to Jonte. I am not sure what it was about her that didn’t click for me in the beginning, but as I continued reading she grew on me and I wanted to root for her to succeed. Despite her family’s wishes for her to hop on the next flight home, Jonte is determined to make her dreams come true. That determination is what leads her to leave everything safe behind and take a chance on her dream. That takes guts and I couldn’t help but admire her actions and eventually enjoy the journey Jonte takes us on. But I think what I liked most were her interactions with other characters, such as Cash and his twin sister, Dolly.

While it took me a bit to care about Jonte and her as a character, there was no such problem with Cash and his family. Cash’s heart of gold and charming personality with just a hint of mystery really appealed to me and I wanted to know more about him from the very first page. His unsuccessful determination to stay out of things, his internal dialogues, and the mystery behind the man only made me like him more. His “save the day” mentality made me like him more especially when his sister teases him about being a knight on a white horse. We need more knights in shining armor with big hearts. As one would expect there is a story behind his actions, which endears him to me even more. Cash’s wit was also quite endearing. I enjoyed every interaction that he had with other characters, such as Jonte and his sister, Dolly, and the internal conversations he would have with himself because we learn more about him and gain an understanding of what makes him tick. There is more than what meets the eye…which could be said about all of the characters in Something I Need.

In addition to a wonderful main couple of characters, the secondary characters of the story really add to things and I enjoyed getting to know them as well and I hope to see more of them in future books in the (XOXO Nashville Series). Cash’s sister Dolly really stood out to me and I feel there is a story there (some of which we learn, but I want to know more). I truly loved all of the interactions and easy banter between the various characters. It just made me feel good and smile and gave the characters a quality of realness.

I truly enjoyed watching Jonte and Cash’s relationship unfold as they went from two strangers to two people who cared about one another immensely with all of the ups and downs you’d expect in a relationship…especially given their backgrounds and shaky introduction to one another. She wants to follow a dream, and he is determined to support her as much as he is capable of doing.

This was a great first book to kick off a new series, and I cannot wait to read more by Lena Lowe.

As a reader you start to develop favourite themes and places to read about in novels. One of my favourite settings is Nashville - as a big fan of the country music scene and even more so now after visiting Nashville, I love to read about it as it sparks the memories of my time there and of course most of the books set in Nashville have that country music theme. In Something I Need, we meet Jonte Williamson who has come from Australia to Nashville to compete in the finals of an American Idol type reality TV show as her dreams are to become a singer. However, when Jonte arrives it doesn't look like Lady Luck is shining on her side as her accomodation falls through and now she is homeless and her money is running thin. The first night she arrives, she meets bartender Cash and his twin sister Dolly and the pair take Jonte under their wings. As we read on we discover that Cash has some demons surrounding his past and we learn the real reason why he hates everything country especially the classic country music. Something I need is a sweet and at times edgy and LOL romance story. One of the things I really loved about this book was the memories it stirred from visiting Centennial Park to seeing the Pantheon and even walking around the Vanderbilt University campus. If you are looking for a sweet, romance tale then check out book #1 in Lena Lowe's series xoxo Gossip Girl , sorry meant xoxo Nashville.

A great debut novel from a fresh new voice.
I loved Lena Lowe's story of Jonte, a wannabe country singer arriving in Nashville from Oz, and Cash, a rock fan in a town full of stetsons and cowboy boots.
The story romps along with tons of fun, music references and a cast of quirky secondary characters.
As the first book in the series, there is more to come from this talented writer!

Fun, addictive story!!!

review 1

It was a very fun book. Really I've laughed a lot! It's a bit like a romantic comedy, and I love that.
I've loved the characters, specially Cash. He was deep, complex a really multi-dimensional characters. He had some demons and went through some hurdles until the end.
Before I started this book, I thought I knew everything about it. This really predictable book that I would read for entertainment. It was very entertaining, but not predictable at all. Full of twists and the unexpected. Really refreshing.
This is the perfect beginning of a promising new series with a fantastic group of secondary characters that I know it could be a very long series. So many stories to tell, so many people to explore.
Great new author!!! I've really enjoyed her writing style.

This cover is pretty, but that hat threw me off. Really, the girl is a country singer, the guy a rock fan and the hat is of a salsa dancer or beach bum.  That's what I thought when I first saw the cover. Yes, maybe because I'm from Rio, I only thought beach when I first saw this.
The flow sometimes, specially surrounding Cash's hurdles, was a bit into the ups and downs.

You MAY read this because you enjoy an entertaining read; you SHOULD read this because you want to give Nashville a chance; you MUST read this because you will find the unexpected; unique!!!

Something I Need.

I received an advanced copy of this book just this morning and I finished it before dinner time, so that in itself says a lot. It was certainly a page turner, it such a great flow that every time I told myself I would stop reading after finishing the chapter I was on I would burn through four more without realising that I had done it. Lena Lowe is a wonderfully descriptive writer, I found myself envisioning every scene with complete clarity, despite having never been anywhere near Nashville, or indeed the USA.
Although the love story was as typically predictable as every other New Adult romance, the story itself had some wonderful twists. The character of Nannie was intriguing to say the least, Lowe broke all the rules with her, bringing an air of mystique, even a science fiction like aspect to the story. Dolly was an absolute delight, fun loving and free from all of the burdens which Cash carried, and yet still fragile enough to be completely human and completely believable. Dean, the ultimate best friend, the one guy who is in no way a love interest, in no way a sexual prospect, a completely platonic shoulder to lean on, who Jonte can talk to about all of her problems and have a genuinely good time with, and wait... what? He's not gay? But that character is ALWAYS gay! Nope he is completely straight and completely not into Jonte, because, here is the kicker, not every character is completely head over heels in love with the female lead. Hurray!!
Cash and Jonte's relationship followed the usual pattern of meeting, discovering their feelings for one another, tumbling into a passionate affair and then being torn apart by past demons. The cliché however stops there, and this was one of my favourite things about this book. For starters, New Adult novels typically feature the female lead having a deep dark demonic secret that haunts her in her relationship and she relies on her hero for support and protection, but Something I Need doesn't conform to that stereotype, instead focusing on the pain in Cash's past as the main emotional theme of the story. Just as refreshing is the anticipated scene of the male lead's impassioned plea for forgiveness and confession of undying love. Usually this scene would result in the female lead falling into his arms and crying, forgiving him and they all live happily ever after the end. However in Lena Lowe's novel, Jonte is not so forgiving, and why should she be? After having her heart broken by a guy who had practically forced her to let him into her heart in the first place. She illustrates the true struggle of relationship in tatters, the lack of trust, the constant hurt, the inability to form new relationships and the true desire to move on and leave the toxic relationship in the past.
I loved the contemporary references to modern music like Mumford and Sons and Muse and Avicii, they really helped to form a beautiful backing track to the story in my head, mixed in with the old school rock and country tracks, and novels like "Wallbanger" which I have also read so I could relate her references and join in her cheeky inner comparisons to the story.

This book was almost five star worthy for me, but it was held back by one or two aspects which I felt required something more. One aspect is Jonte's home life. She hints at and brushes over the topic, suggesting that her home life isn't perfect because of a controlling, says that her brothers no longer speak to her, but her description of her mother reads just like any other slightly over bearing mother who thinks she knows what is best for her children. I would have loved more insight into her home life, what exactly did her mother do to drive away all of her children? What was it that sparked Jonte's passion for country music of all of the genres? What about her best friend back in Australia, who disappeared after the first quarter of the book, never to be mentioned again? I would have loved to know more about her life before Nashville.
Also the character of Pop was totally absent, with us only ever hearing references to him and never actually meeting him.

Lastly, I will point out one more thing which I loved about his book to round it out and that is that Cash didn't have an annoying nickname for Jonte! He called her by her name or Sweetheart but he didn't come up with some completely degrading and lovey-dovey name that only he calls her by like so many other leading males do.

Four Stars. A thoroughly refreshing take on New Adult Contemporary romance.

Jonte packed her bags, got on an airplane and moved from Australia to Nashville to become a Country Star. But unfortunately, that is not how things worked out, and she ended up with no place to stay or to work. When she walks into a bar to drown her sorrows, she meets Cash. Cash likes to keep his distance from people, only letting in his twin Dolly, his best friend Tanner and his grandparents. For some strange reason though, Cash can’t help but be drawn to Jonte and all her drama. When Cash and Dolly go above and beyond to help Jonte, she can’t refuse. But can Jonte make something of herself in Nashville or will she have to return home with nothing?

I had an open mind and no expectations when I started reading this book and I am happy to report that I am in love. Seriously, I enjoyed every minute of this book and want a physical copy so I can hug it to my chest in a fit of joy. Over the top? Maybe, but I am ok with this. I feel like I have been in a reading slump recently and this book really picked up my day. I am not saying this was the next American Classic or anything absurd like that, but this was full of well developed characters, some hot sexy romance, and a whole lot of personality and fun. I was instantly engaged in the story right from the moment Jonte entered Cash’s bar, and the pages flew by without me noticing time passing.

The novel switched perspective between chapters, going from Jonte to Cash, giving the reader well developed characters to root for. Jonte was fun and made the best of almost every situation, and I absolutely loved that she had a backbone. She may have been in distress a few times, but she was no weak damsel to take advantage of. If she was a real person, I could see us being friends. Cash on the other hand was a dark rain cloud of a person, but I loved him anyway. He tried to be the tough, distant jerk, but he had a warm gooey center and played white knight every chance he got. He may have been abrasive and grumbly, but his actions (almost always) were with the best of intentions. He really melted my heart with his multiple attempts at the end to get forgiveness, and he was completely forgiven (as per me) regardless of Jonte’s ideas. They could easily be described as yin and yang due to how opposite they were yet how well they fit and complemented each other.

The side characters were as equally well developed as Jonte and Cash, and just as real. I would love to have more books in the series talking about the lives of all the other characters in the book (hopefully with mentions of Cash and Jonte thrown in here and there). Dolly was full of life, yet really uncertain of what she wants (even if said person is right in front of her, hint hint). Sebastian was such a wonderful, sweet guy, I want to see him be the white knight he deserves for some girl. Tanner was less developed, but I still liked him well enough. Jack, Jonte’s brother seems like he could have more going on, the big strong , protective broody Aussie vibe he throws out was intense. But hands down, my favorite character in the book (besides Jonte and Cash) was Dean. He was literally the best friend anyone could have asked for and I am madly in love with him. He was so mysterious with his own situation while helping Jonte sort her life, that I could not help but be curious about what secrets he is hiding. Hands down, I hope there will be a book in the series about him (please??).

I really enjoyed this story (in case my gushing was not apparent) and I look forward from more in this series as well as anything from this author in general. Honestly, my only complaint was that I wanted more at the ending of what happens to Cash and Jonte, be it personal life or professional, but hopefully I will see more of them to come and my curiosity will be answered.

I received this title from the author in return for my honest review.

As a reader who enjoys romances set in the music world there was much about this book that I found charming. From the memorable secondary characters to a deliciously damaged hero I was quickly consumed with their lives and personal struggles that all took a back seat to a heroine who left me conflicted.

Jonte was a colorful character with an Aussie accent, a desire to be famous as a singer, and extremely lucky in finding saviors when she arrives in Nashville after losing her apartment. She's a young and carefree young woman who easily attracts people wanting to help her and before she knows it she has a newfound set of friends and two men panting after her. There are times I enjoyed her naivete balanced with seductress and other times I found her a bit self-involved. She never asked about her new friend's pasts nor did she ask Cash about his emotional issues when things got rocky between them. Instead, she just moved on with someone new, someone who was clearly going to get hurt. Jonte wasn't all bad though as she was strong-willed and fought for the right to pursue her dreams. She was focused on her plan to gain fame and took every chance offered to her which made her someone to admire.

While Jonte left me a bit cold at times, Cash definitely steamed up the pages with numerous scorching interludes early on in the story between him and Jonte. He had a rough childhood of loss though and is scared of losing the joy he feels with her which throws his mind into chaos the closer they get. They have a crackling connection, one of him acting the white knight despite his trying to keep things casual between them but fate had other ideas. Cash is a loyal friend to Tanner and a loving brother to Dolly which endeared him to me and had me rooting for him to put his past behind him to grasp the HEA he's long denied himself.

Along with a drool-worthy hero came the entertaining secondary characters of Tanner, Dolly, and Dean. Dolly's an exhuberant young woman, bold and colorful, who's desperate to see her brother happy and goes out of her way to bring Cash and Jonte together. She lives life to the fullest and is misunderstood by many but I enjoyed her energy that jumped off the pages. Tanner's known Cash and Dolly since they were kids and it's a tight bond between this trio. He and Dolly seem to have a particularly tight bond, one teeming with sexual tension that I hope to see explored as he cast numerous longing glances her way. Dean's a complex character I hope we get to see more of as he's a loyal friend to Jonte, always letting her be the focus of their time together. He's got family issues of his own and seems to be conflicted when it comes to becoming famous. These subtle instances have me longing for more, intriguing me wholeheartedly. This story dug deep into the city of Nashville, vividly taking readers on a trip to all the hot spots. On the romance side a nice bit of time is spent with Cash and Jonte as a couple in sweet and sexy scenes, but just as much time is spent with them apart with her trying to find love elsewhere. It might've made for a more emotional story but it dimmed my happiness a bit as I enjoyed Cash and Jonte together and her being with someone else tarnished her a bit in my eyes. On a whole though this is an entertaining start to a new series that has crafted a cast of secondary characters readers will definitely want to see more of in future installments.

Something I Need is Lena Lowe's debut novel and she did a great job with it. What a refreshing, sweet, sexy, easy and relatively quick read. I was hooked from the first chapter and had a hard time putting it down. Lowe has great storytelling skills. Her characters are witty, charming, sweet and oh so sexy! I definitely look forward to reading the next book in this series and recommend that if you are reading this review to go and one click now.

Jonte Williamson has just touched down in the country music capital of the world, Nashville, TN. With a dream of making it to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. She has just six short weeks until she has to perform in front of a live audience, she has made into the American Country Star contest. When her living arrangements turn out to be a mess, she finds herself drowning her sorrows in a beer at Rock on Nashville. A local bar, that isn't country! When bartender Cash tries to make her feel better, everything changes. Add in his unique, whimsical, retro sister Dolly and you have the mixing's of a great story.

Cash Bellini is content with his life. He owns the Rock on Nashville bar, has a great relationship with his sister and his best friend Tanner loves to bust his balls from time to time. The last thing he needs is the gorgeous blonde that just dropped her butt onto the stool in front of him taking up his time. Cash suffers from white knight syndrome if you will. He sees a gorgeous young woman, stressed out and he jumps in to help. But his heart gets caught up before his brain has a chance to warn him to back off. Cash has demons and he has fought hard to bury them, but with Jonte, he finds his walls slipping, something he never intended to happen.

Can these two emotionally unattached people find a way to fix one another and find happiness that they both so strongly deserve or will the fight that they have to be happy burn out before they even have a chance to get started. With a cast of awesome secondary characters this story is hilarious as well as sexy hot! The chemistry between Cash and Jonte is awesome. They are both running from pasts that they want to forget, but need to deal with in order to have a future. Can they save one another? Go and grab your copy and find out how this sweet, sexy, refreshing romance turns out!

I received a free copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Three and a half stars.

Jonte (there is a reason for the unusual name) is an Australian singer who has come to Nashville to participate in a singing competition. Her plans for a room are dashed when her room-mate announces that her sister has descended unexpectedly and takes precedence. With her phone not working and nowhere to stay Jonte walks into a bar to drown her sorrows in a beer where she meets the barman and owner Cash and his twin sister Dolly. Despite the names, Cash loathes everything country and his bar only plays rock music. So it's the usual story, Cash has issues and secrets, will Jonte make it Nashville or will she have to go back to Australia?

I liked the story, I also liked Jonte and Cash. I really liked something Jonte did towards the end of the novel. It made me want to stand up and cheer on my crowded commuter train this morning.

The book isn't without its flaws. Cash's twin sister Dolly is pretty annoying. I was going to say she was one of the most annoying characters I have read but then I recalled half of the main characters from Elle Casey novels and revised my comment. Cash's Nannie also appears only to be in the novel to say something which triggers something else - oh and she is psychic, of sorts!

Although Cash is 27 years old the book reads as if he is much younger, maybe 21? Or maybe I'm just waaay too old.

Anyway, I liked it, it would have been better IMHO without Nannie and Dolly, they were too manipulative/ obvious plot drivers, but looking forward to see whether Lena can make me like Dolly in the next book which will (I think) feature Dolly and Tanner.

This is Lena Lowe's debut book and the first in the Nashville series.

Jonte Williamson comes to Nashville from Australia to chase her dream of becoming a country singer. Upon arrival she finds herself homeless and ends up in a bar. Its in this bar she meets Cash and his twin Dolly (yes u read that right....Cash and Dolly)

Cash Bellini owns the very bar Jonte finds herself in. At first Cash seems easy going but it soon becomes clear he has his own demons....Demons that make him hate country music and everything associated with it. Not only does Cash hate country he also hates the idea of love, of falling in love. So why cant he seem to take his eyes off Jonte? And why does he find himself wanting to help her and keep her safe? But the most important question of all....what the hell is with these feelings he gets everytime she is near him?

Not only are Jonte and Cash great characters but so are all the supporting ones aswell. Dean and Dolly are two of my favourite! What makes this story unique for me though is that it doesnt follow the typical pattern stories of this genre normally do. You know the one right? Boy meets girl, they fall in love, something comes along to ruin it, que the romantic gesture and declaration of love and boom all is right in the world again. While Cash and Jonte do get their HEA what sets this apart is Jonte makes him work for it....really work for it, and you as a reader are left asking if their actually going to get their HEA right down to the last second.

Brilliantly refreshing are two words i would use to describe this book! I cant wait to read more from this series.

3.5 stars!

I received a free copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Something I Need is a fresh new romance set in Nashville, Tennessee. When Jonte Williamson steps off the plane, all her plans go to hell in a hand-basket. The room she'd organised to rent is no longer available, she has limited funds, she's tired, hungry, and a little bit annoyed about it all. Luckily, Cash, the sexy barkeep who works nearby steps up to help remedy all the problems Nashville's newest hopeful is facing. But Cash has problems of his own, and his demons are beginning to resurface.

This is a fun holiday read, full of music references, quirky characters, and steamy romance! Lena Lowe does a great job of setting the scene and making it feel like the reader is right there in Nashville with Jonte and Cash. The romance scenes are exciting and sexy, without too much cliche. The pop-culture references (to TV shows and movies) are at times a little dragging, and not really essential to the story, however, the music references specifically are great. I wish Cash and his family's psychic abilities had been brought in earlier and made a larger part of the plot. There's something about the American south that invites ideas of magic and the supernatural that would have been interesting to explore here. I also would have liked to know more about why Jonte was running away from home. It was briefly touched on, and maybe it will be addressed in later books, however I feel that this was a loose end never tied.

That aside, this is a great debut novel. I'd definitely read the sequel.

Something I Need (xoxo Nashville, #1) is the first book I’m reading by Lena Lowe.

The story revolves around Cash, a hot-and-cold Rock bar owner from Nashville and Jonte, an aspiring country singer from Australia.

Honestly, it took me sometime to actually hook get involved in this story because I clearly didn’t know where the story was heading and what was happening. But, I still pushed myself to read through it.

Although Cash’s issues were revealed in the middle of the book, I still feel there was not much clarity given to Jonte’s issues. For instance, why did her mom dye her hair blond?

I wanted to know more where she was coming from and the family pressure she faced in Australia. It would’ve justified her act of running away from home. Although, I really liked the instances when she actually took firm decisions. Both Cash and Jonte’s issues could have been elaborated a bit more to give their characters depth. I wanted to feel more through them.

Overall, the book was an enjoyable read and I'm curious about Dolly and Tanner. I seriously looked forward to Dolly and her antics. I believe the ending was rushed and not as detailed as I was expecting it to be.

I'll definitely be reading the next installment because it features Dolly and Tanner. Yay!

A copy of this was graciously given provided to me through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I love a musician's story! This hit a lot of the perfect notes (also love a good pun)! Jonte has moved from down-under to Nashville in hopes of pursuing her dreams in the music industry. Cash owns a Rock bar and dislikes all things country. Yet when these two meet an instant pull seems to keep them in each others lives.

Perhaps my main critique for the book is I wish we got more of Cash's skeletons sooner. And had a bigger understanding of Jonte's family issues. Both were somewhat touched on but a little more flesh on it would have helped. I love being able to feel what the characters are going through.

However, even without that I found the book still a thoroughly enjoyable read! I love Dolly and her wild antics. Plus I want the details on Tanner and her!

5***** Great standalone novel

I love discovering new authors and this talented one was a pleasant surprise. I also liked the fact that I was able to read the first book in a series that looks so promising. If you, like me aren’t a fan of cliffhangers, don’t worry. This is a standalone. However, you’ll be introduced to so many great characters you’ll want to know more about them. I can’t wait for the next installment.
Lena Lowe’s debut novel has it all: laugh-out-loud comedy, heart-warming romance, soul-searching drama, and great music. She also does a great job with characters’ development and background story; the plot is engaging and realistic; and the writing style is brilliant. What’s there not to like?
I recommend this book for readers looking for a talented new voice in an old and sometimes repetitive genre such as contemporary romance.

An enjoyable, funny and engaging novel set in the music world of Nashville. There's a lot to like about Lena Lowe's Something I Need. The main chaacters of Jonte and Cash are well-rounded, each with a few issues that initially see them reluctant to fall in love. Jonte is an Aussie, and I love reading an Australian character who actually sounds right, using real slang. She's friendly and talented, attracting friends and admireres. Cash was a harder read for me, as at times I found his hot and cold reactions confusing. As his past was more fully explained, I came around to liking him. The sexual tension between Jonte and Cash was smokin' hot too. I'm looking forward to reading more from this new author. 4.5 stars! Note: I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Great characters that grow on you and feel like friends, a plot with thoughtful truths and multilayers, and a world of Nashville and music that will draw you in and grab you for the long haul: That is what you get with this insightful, yet sexy and soulful story. I cannot wait for more of these characters. And I want to know all their stories. Lena Lowe has a way with words that pulls at you and won’t let go until the last word and resolution. She is a new author to me and I will be finding more by her. This is a fun, sexy yet insightful book that deals not just with love, dreams, and life, but mental illness in a way that makes sense and might help someone out there who is hesitating about getting help. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I read this book in one sitting and it was such a fun, flirty read. The sex scenes were hot and steamy and the characters were well developed. I would definitely read more from this author. Congratulations on a smoking hot debut!

Don't you just hate when a book starts off really strong and then sort of turns into a mess really quick? Well, that is exactly what happened with this one.

Jonte Williamson has always dreamed of being a country star, and she knows she has the talent to make her dream a reality. Her big break comes in the form of a singing competition in Nashville, so once she's saved up enough money, she flies there from her native Australia. Everything is set to be perfect... until her housing falls through at the last minute.

Alone and suddenly homeless, Jonte wanders into a bar in hopes of figuring things out. The bar belongs to Cash Bellini, a young guy with a big heart. Cash and his twin sister Dolly take Jonte under their wing, helping her find a job and a place to stay. It's not long before Jonte and Cash start falling for each other.

I assumed based on the description that I would like this book, and I was right. In some ways, it's your typical New Adult story. In other ways, it's completely not.

It follows the usual progression of the hero and heroine meeting under less-than-ideal circumstances. The hero helps the heroine overcome some obstacle and then they have an intense and explosive relationship. Hurt feelings. Misunderstandings. Inevitable break up. So on and so forth.

This is the plot of about 97%* of New Adult books.
(*Not a scientific measurement or mathematically correct figure.)

But here we have some twists. Because while, yes, Cash did help Jonte out of a bind, it turns out that Cash has all the issues to overcome. Jonte is happy in the relationship. She's fine with commitment. There's no abuse or trauma in her past preventing her from getting close to someone. Their relationship isn't going to get anywhere until Cash gets over his baggage, but Jonte isn't going to sit idly by waiting for him.

No, Jonte has her career to worry about. Not only does she have a one-year visa to worry about, but she also promised her family that if things don't work out within a certain timeframe, she's coming back to Australia. She doesn't have time to wait around while her sometimes-boyfriend tries to decide whether he wants to be with her. And more power to her!

Jonte also doesn't fall at Cash's feet when he realizes how much he likes her. He's actually a pretty huge jerk to her, and she calls him out on it. She's not going to pretend that everything's okay just because he apologizes. This is also great because so often in these types of books, the hero sweeps the heroine off her feet and all of his mistakes are forgotten. Real life doesn't work like that, and neither does Jonte.

There were a couple things keeping me from giving this book a full five stars. My main complaint would be that everything seemed so convenient. We have Dolly, whose sole purpose is basically to push Cash and Jonte together. We have Cash's Nannie, whose psychic inklings are the catalyst for all the drama between Cash and Jonte. We have Seb, Jonte's coworker who is actually (I think) a much better fit for her, who basically exists only so that Jonte will realize that she has feelings for Cash. But these complaints are relatively minor and this didn't bother me too much.

Let me just finish this review by saying that I really appreciated the inclusion of Dean's character in the book. Dean is Jonte's friend. He's always there for her when she needs him. He listens when she needs to complain. He offers her suggestions when she asks. He's a good-looking, straight guy who is not attracted to Jonte in the slightest. And Jonte isn't attracted to him, either. How refreshing! A platonic friendship between a guy and a girl in a New Adult book! One that doesn't exist just to develop into a romantic relationship in later chapters! Imagine that!

If New Adult is your thing, definitely check this book out. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

First off, I have to say...I absolutely loved this book and I am so glad it is going to be a series!

There are lots of things I actually really liked about this book. I am always worried with romance-type books because 99% of the time, it can be very predictable. Lena Lowe proved me wrong! Even though it did end the way I thought it would (come on, it HAD to), there were quite a few twists that I didn't see coming.

I loved all the characters, but especially Cash, who you find out has to deal with his inner demons. Honestly, I did not expect it and was shocked and excited. I enjoyed that there were some darker moments and struggles, because you really root for him in the end. The only thing I didn't love was that it took quite a while for those issues to be unearthed.

The dialogue and thoughts that the characters have were are pretty realistic, some of which made me laugh out loud because I think they are things we've all thought at some point.

I started and finished this book in less than 1 day. Last night I stayed up till 3:30 am reading because I was so into the book and I just couldn't put it down. When an author can transport someone into their story, that says a lot. I am already so excited to read the next one!

I was lucky enough to read an advance review copy of this book and it was so much fun!

Jonte Williamson has just arrived in Nashville from Australia to pursue her dream as a country singer. Only, on arrival, her accommodation falls through and she finds herself regrouping in one of the city's only anti-country bars.

Cash Bellini is the bar's tortured owner. The only two people he allows into his life are his twin sister Dolly, and his best friend Tanner. But the spunky Jonte somehow breaks through Cash's tough exterior, despite his intense efforts to protect the walls he's built around his heart.

I absolutely loved the cast of characters in this book. Dolly and Seb were two stand-outs, and I can't wait to read more of them later in the series. The setting is awesome, and the descriptions will have you laughing out loud in parts. Oh, and don't forget the hot love scenes!

If you are a fan of romance with a bit of spice, definitely check this out!

What a fabulous debut! I could not put it down.

Lena Lowe has crafted a sexy, funny and engaging novel with lovable characters you'll remember long after reading 'the end'. Cash is a gorgeous, complex hero with personal demons to overcome. Jonte is a girl you want to be friends with - who you'll cheer on from the sidelines as she tries to make her dreams come true. Their conflicts are both believable and relatable, showing show real personal growth as they discover who they are alone, and who they can be together.

The author has a witty, engrossing style. I found myself immersed in both the Nashville country music scene setting and the lives of the hero, heroine and their friends. The secondary characters drew me in without taking over and I can't wait to read more in this series so I can revisit these characters all over again.

Sometimes a book comes along, grabs you, makes you continue reading, and all the while you’re thinking: well, this can’t continue. This book can’t continue to be this awesome. The author is going to drop the proverbial ball and the book will ultimately just be really average. Something I Need by debut author Lena Lowe never drops the ball!

description

This was yet another book from Netgalley that I’ve had for ages, and the time has arrived!

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect in the beginning, but I ended up enjoying this book more than I thought I would initially. The writing wasn’t totally my cup of tea, as the book is told in the third person, and even though it is told through dual POV, I wasn’t always sure which POV I was actually reading at some points.

I liked Jonte and Cash as characters, there was depth to both of them, and they did have chemistry. There’s also some great character growth and some great friendships within this book.

My main issues were the plot and the pacing. I liked the romance in the book, and the musical element of the plot. But the main conflict happens a bit early, and it takes a long time to get through it. More than anything, I really hated those last 15% of the book is Cash trying and failing to solve the problem, especially because his attempts were so dumb! That really threw me off, because these characters were not having a conversation about what plagued them, and that’s what they truly needed.

The book also dragged a lot in the beginning and then again at the last portion, so the pace was weird, unfortunately.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read, and it still made me want to pick up the following book, to see where these characters are.
