From the Journal of Jessup Hart Blackwell...

Friday, May 3, 1861
My brother is going to kill me.

Kill me or laugh at me—or something.

If he ever finds this book… this… Heavens I don't want to say journal. However, I suppose that’s what it is.

A book where I can write down my thoughts.

I'm sure not able to, nor have the capacity to, do it in life. In real life.

And if mother ever sees this... I shudder to think what she would do to me. This is my father's father's journal. I found it here last week in an old trunk shoved back in the loft of the barn. I find things to do so I don't have to go inside the house. I have my reasons. I suppose this is a safe place to share those reasons or talk about why. No one else is going to come up here and read it, but I know my feelings. So, why should I write them down?

Because my grandfather did.

Because I want to be in the house as little as possible.

Because I need to talk to someone.

Because there is something in me that I can't explain.

Something dark.

Kelly Martin is an author and developmental editor who lives in a possibly haunted house in a small southern town. While she'd like to say paranormal things only happen to her at her home, it would be a lie, mainly because she searches them out in some of America's most haunted locations. Whether it is talking to the ghosts of Waverly Hills or the spirits of Thomas House Hotel, these events inevitably land in some of Kelly's books. Just wait until you read The Haunting of Micah Reed.

Hart!

I enjoyed reading Hart's journal, I've wondered about it since first hearing about it in Reckless. I wondered how Gracen got ahold of it to begin with?

Learning about hart while he was still human has me understanding a lot more about him, which I guess is the point. Its really sad, I feel bad for hart and Lucien and Colleen.

But I wonder how it all comes into play. I'm confused about a lot of things like The mother. What did she do, why is colleen there? Did the mother put a spell on them? I'm just so confused! But still was an an amazing story!

How Colleen manipulated the brothers against one another turning Hart into what he became.

I heart Hart - no pun intended.

Always pondered what had happened to Colleen. I didn't like her in Breathless, pretty much admitting she played both brothers. She didn't deserve what happen to her but because of her she ruined Hart and Lucien's relationship. True was Hart's fault but if Colleen hadn't toyed with both of them and tell one of the brothers to lay off then maybe this wouldn't have happened? Who knows. Hart deserves Gracen anyways. My two cents!

Would love to see Lucien's point of view now. Did he know what truly happen to Colleen?

Hart

I've had this book in my kindle library for some time and I was surprised that it took form as a journal. I really liked the character and felt sorry for him, he seemed to be a good person. I can only imagine what will happen now that they have joined different sides in the war. As a person who likes journal writing, I connected with this book, also with the whole story and look forward to reading the series as this was only a short novella. I gave it 4 stars only because of the length of the story. Very nice writing, totally would recommend.

I loved how we got to see into the life of Hart and learn where he really came from and what happened to make him into what he is. You know through the series he has always blamed himself for what happened to Colleen and coming between her and Lucien and through reading his journal you come to know what caused all this grief. Thank you Kelly for writing this and giving us a glimpse into who Hart was.

Of all the things I thought would appear in Jessup Hart Blackwell's past, I was clearly mistaken and wrongful judged him. While his past is definitely dark, to say the least, it wasn't what I expected and made me adore him more.

Quick back story about Hart ( obviously), via journal entries, that give insight about his family and Colleen. Definitely clears some things up. Liked getting this information after reading the series to date instead of before.

Finally!

The back story of Hart, the character we love to hate and hate to love. Perfect way to answer all those questions.

I understood a lot of things about life in front of HART. seen on the cover when he was human on a black background. Time or it was human he has problems with his brother Lucien found in the volumes of the series. There find a newspaper in the attic of the barn and will read. Look forward to reading the last book Reckless and the series is over.
