Maisey is one of my go to sorbet authors and I love her Copper Ridge series, so I was quite eager to get my hands on this.

I liked Maddy and Sam well enough. They're both so brash and used to being unchallenged that it was amusing to see them push each other's buttons. And I would have been thrilled if it would have stayed the fluffy little morsel it started out to be...

...but then the drama happened. And there's a lot of it. Of course there's the usual push and pull, but thankfully that all happens in one scene. They both have serious amounts of baggage and I guess I wasn't quite expecting that. Especially with that cover and the synopsis.

Overall, it was another piece of the Copper Ridge puzzle. I'll read anything from that series.

**Huge thanks to Harlequin Books and NetGalley for providing the arc in exchange for an honest review**

Favorite Quote: "I do find it a little bit amusing that you got cock-blocked by a snowbank."

Madison has been celibate for ten years due to some past emotional turmoil and she is ready for some action. Like - really, really ready. After meeting a salesman at her family's ranch, she invites him to a remote cabin for a weekend of no-strings-attached sex. She arrives at the cabin, gets into something sexy and waits for the salesman to arrive. But to her horror, it starts to snow, and the road that leads to the cabin is shut down. Then the power goes out. Shaken, she trudges to the neighboring cabin to see if she can use a landline phone. But when Sam opens the door, she knows the universe is against her.

Sam, a rancher and an artist, also helps with the horses at her family's ranch. Sam and Madison have always had an icy relationship. Sam thinks Madison is too uptight and haughty.

He let out a long-suffering sigh and stepped to the side. He didn't like Madison West. He never had. Not from the moment he had been hired on as a farrier for the West estate eight years earlier. In all the years since he'd first met Madison, since he'd first started shoeing her horses, he'd never received one polite word from her.

Madison thinks Sam has zero manners. She is shocked he is renting the neighboring cabin, but with no power, she succumbs to his offer of dinner and heat. When Sam realizes why Madison is at the cabin and after they both notice a definite spark of chemistry, he offers her a night of sex - and when she fully admits she is attracted to him, Madison finally gets her orgasm. *throws confetti*

The beginning of this book is really fun. Sam is all tall, unshaven cowboy, and Madison is all uptight, nervous wreck.

"I had a seduction plan, she said, her vice trembling, He wasn't entirely sure it was a protest, or even a compliment.

"You don't plan passion, baby," he said.

At least, he didn't. Because if he were thinking clearly, he would be putting her top back on and telling her to go back to her ice-cold cabin, where she would be safe.

"I do," she said, her teeth chattering in spite of the fact it was very warm in the kitchen. "I plan everything."

"Not this. You're a dirty girl now, Madison West," he said, sliding his thumb over her damp nipple, moving it in a slow circle until she arched her back and cried out. "You were going to sleep with another man this weekend, and you replaced him so damn easily. With me. Doesn't even matter to you who you have. As long as you get a little bit. Is that how it is?"

I was into it.

But then while Sam can do some dirty talking, sometimes it turned a little cheesy:

"If some man can't handle you being a little bit hard, then he's no kind of man. I can take you, baby. I can take all of you. And that's good, since we both know you can take all of me."

Sorry, Sam. That doesn't really do it for me.

They have amazing sex, of course, and then decide that is it. But once back at home, they are drawn to each other again. They decide on having sex for the twelve days of Christmas. But we really don't get to see much of it *kicks dirt*

The second half takes a more serious, deeper tone. They both have issues in the past which have led them to not have a healthy dating life in the present. They both have or had dad issues. They both have a lot of stuff that churns up and makes the book much more serious than I was expecting. I personally wanted them to stay snowed in and sing a perverted version of the Twelve Days of Christmas. Instead we have to deal with feelings. *kicks dirt again*

More an Oil-and-Water romance than Enemies-to-Lovers with two characters who eventually realize they have more in common than they first realize. Namely they're hiding behind mountains of anger, guilt and blame that they need to shed themselves of to finally move on with their lives. Yates brings the first sex scene in early and then layers in the character development and conflict after - so it took a while for me to sink into the pacing. Also, while the hero in this book is the brother of the hero in Take Me, Cowboy - I think it would work a bit better to read this one after the Copper Ridge single titles that feature the West family siblings. But a solid read for me.

Sometimes a girl really just needs to land herself on Santa's naughty list. Something Maddy set about doing in a glorious way. And she's gonna take her nemesis, Sam, down with her...one orgasm at a time. Hallelujah! Hold Me, Cowboy? total orgasm infused fun!

Okay so Maddy and Sam. They've spent years sniping at each other. She's snobby and always shocking people...he's cocky and always ready to snarl at them. And they just drive each other crazy. But a snow storm, a remote cabin, lots of sexual tension and a horrifyingly long time since either has had a social orgasm (thank you Jill Shalvis for that gem!) and, yeah, sparks and panties fly.

It was hard not to like Sam and Maddy. He's a cowboy artist. Rough and gruff but damn if that cocky pain-in-the-ass attitude wasn't sexy as hell, too. And Maddy. She was taking things into her own hands and breaking out of her past which I loved seeing. Plus she loved her food and wasn't about to let anyone get in the way of her noms.

They were a lot of fun together. Snarky and growly and that perfect combination of "I hate you"/"Want to climb you like a tree". It was so fun watching their animosity turn to scorching heat and passion and finding out maybe there were things they didn't know about each other.

There's a lot of sexy since, well, they'd set out on a convenient sex-a-thon during a snowstorm and then had a naughty 12 days before Christmas thing happen. And, yeah, they're crazy hot together. Passionate and a little edgy and rough. It was curl your toes good. But there was a lot more to them than that as well. They're each dealing with some heavy emotional damage from the past they've never been able to let go of and finally talking about it with someone. There were some damn funny moments too that left me giggling.

All in all, Hold Me, Cowboy wasn't the most Christmasy of Christmas reads but a fantastic wintery tale of romance and healing. Sexy, emotional, giggle-worthy...I mean, really, it doesn't get any better than that. I can't get enough of Cooper Ridge and the people who call it home.

Hold Me, Cowboy is the second book in the Copper Ridge: Desire series by Maisey Yates. Being snowed in during a blizzard seems to be a particular trend in romances this season (maybe it always is in Christmas books but this is my fourth book in a row where a forced proximity trope is used). It certainly adds to heightened tensions in this particular enemies to lovers story, making for a delightful, entertaining and sexy read.

Madison West is a wealthy rancher’s daughter with a checkered past. It made her wary of emotional involvements with men, and she’s been single and date free for several years as a result. But she’s made a move to do something about it, inviting a salesman she’d flirted with at the ranch for a weekend of sexy times to get herself back in the game. When a snowstorm leaves her stranded at her rented cabin without her date, it also brings her to the doorstep of the equally isolated cabin next door when her power goes out. The renter turns out to be none other than Sam McCormack, a local blacksmith, and artist with whom she clashed several times at the ranch when he’d come to work on her horses. Sam may not like Miss high and mighty Madison, but he isn’t going to let her freeze to death either, so in quick order she’s ensconced in his cabin with him, waiting out the storm and the chance to be free of each other’s unwanted company. Only, when Sam finds out from a reluctant Madison just what her plans had been, he volunteers to take the place of her now canceled date. One thing leads to another and they share a steamy night together. Back home in Copper Ridge, they agree to keep seeing each other on the sly, just until Christmas after which time they’ll go their separate ways. But once they’ve had a taste of how good things can be between them, will it be so easy to give it all up?

What a fun read! From the first page, I was hooked, feeling empathy for Madison and her ruined plans, and smirking at Sam and his determination to keep Madison at arm’s length – a determination that doesn’t last long. They really steam up the sheets in their first encounter together and both realize very quickly that what they’ve shared isn’t the norm though they aren’t quite sure how to deal with that, other than to admit they want to keep seeing each other. Sam comes across as a sometimes gruff but reserved man, though sparring with Madison reveals him to contain a lot of passion (as does his time with her in bed). He’s a very talented metal sculptor, though he knows that he’s holding himself back from creating the art that calls to him. Keeping himself emotionally contained is something he’s done for so long that Madison brings out feelings in him he’s not prepared for.

As for Madison, she is also a quiet and contained individual, for good reason. At the tender age of 17, she was seduced by an older man (her married trainer). Believing he would leave his wife for her, she was instead cruelly rejected when their affair was discovered and became an object of scorn in her town. It’s affected all her relationships, including friendships since, and she’s been a rather lonely woman for a long time. She’s very sensitive to being an object of gossip and wants to keep things with Sam a secret, especially since they don’t have plans to continue their affair after Christmas. Sam is just fine with keeping things a secret, as he too has his own painful history. The story has some really emotional moments, as they both reveal to each other some of the devastating events that happened in their pasts. I loved seeing them go from antagonism to deep affection as they open up to each other. Their connection deepens quickly but so do the doubts about whether they can (or want) to translate what they have into something more permanent. Despite some ups and downs, they do find their way to a delightfully happy ending ( Sam gives good grovel!) and I plan to visit Copper Ridge again very soon.

Hold Me, Cowboy is my first Maisey Yates book and I really like her writing style. Her prose flows fluidly and her characters are well-written. I think my only issue with this book is the abrupt transition from lighthearted to MAJOR ANGST. It just happened so quickly that I wasn't emotionally prepared for all the impending angst. And to be honest, the angst also felt a little too overdamatic. I kind of wish the story stuck to being lighthearted. Maybe if the book was longer, then the transition could have been much more fluid.

This definitely won't be my last Maisey Yates book because I find her writing style really engaging. I think I'll give one of her longer books a try next!

Good story of opposites attracting. Madison is a member of Copper Ridge's wealthiest family, but one who has been something of an outsider for the past ten years. At seventeen, she was seduced by a married instructor, but when the affair was discovered, she was blamed. Hurt, bitter and emotionally devastated, she has avoided any relationships since then, using a snarky attitude to keep people at a distance. But she's tired of her celibacy and has set up a weekend away with an acquaintance, one that she feels won't threaten her defensive walls. But a snowstorm keeps her partner away, and a power outage sends her to the cabin next door for help. To say she isn't happy at who opens the door would put it mildly.

Sam is the local farrier who has taken care of her family's horses for several years. He is also a talented metal sculptor who has come to the cabin as a retreat to decide what he's going to make next. Sam is gruff, grouchy and anti-social. He's carrying some baggage of his own from the past which has left him guilt-ridden and emotionally closed off. He, too, has avoided intimacy of any kind since it happened. Having Madison, who has been a thorn in his side for years, show up at his door is not the inspiration he was looking for. But he can't let her freeze, so he lets her in.

Sam and Maddy have been butting heads for years. He thinks she's a snob and she thinks he's just a jackass. But all that antagonism has been a cover for the attraction that both have been trying to deny. When Sam finds out about Maddy's plans for the weekend, he offers to fill in. A passion filled weekend will scratch their respective itches and they can go back to normal when they go home. However, things get much more intense than either expected, and within a few days of going home they decide they want to continue for a little longer. They give themselves permission to carry on until Christmas, and then they'll end it.

But a funny thing happens in the midst of all that window steaming togetherness. Sam's gruffness hides a pretty sensitive heart and Maddy finds herself opening up about the events behind her ten year dry spell. His lack of condemnation for her actions and his disgust with the instructor, go a long way toward healing the hurt that has been with her for so long. It also makes her far more willing to open herself up to the feelings that are growing for Sam. He has also begun experiencing feelings that he has closed off, but he's not at all happy about it. He tells Maddy about the tragedy that has made him the way he is, and is stunned that she doesn't feel the same disgust with him that he does. I ached for Maddy as she tells him how she feels and he does his best to drive her away. I loved seeing her admit that she's made her mistakes, but that she's through accepting all the blame. But getting Sam to see that he doesn't deserve the guilt he heaps on himself doesn't go as well. I cried for her unhappiness, as she is sure that Sam loves her, but can't get past his own pain. I loved seeing his brother Chase dish out the same medicine that Sam gave him, enabling Sam to finally see the truth. I loved the ending, with Sam and Maddy coming together, but also agreeing that love isn't going to turn them into a unicorns and rainbows kind of couple, that snark and sarcasm will always be a part of who they are.

Another winner from Maisey Yates, not that there was any doubt. I love the Copper Ridge series so much and can't wait to see what's coming down the road. This book being part of the Copper Ridge series I knew this would be a good one. How can you rally go wrong with a Christmas theme and a sexy cowboy? In fact how can you go wrong with any Maisey Yates book? Answer you can't. So I knew right away before I opened the pages it would be a good one. And it was.

I was so excited about this book ever since I learned that Madison would be getting her own book. All the other West siblings got their happily ever after why shouldn't Madison. I wanted to see her deeper layers beneath the surface that she was presented to the world. And boy did I get it. She touched me with her vulnerability. I really liked her. So many feels with her. I felt for her. All the pain and hurt that she bottled up for ten years was intense. It was no wonder she needed a release of all the tension.

And that release of tension came in the form of sexy yet grumpy Sam McCormack, who was the brother of Copper Ridge Desire #1. He was a puss for sure, but when he came together with Madison boy did sparks fly. The tension between the two was off the charts and built up over seven years of attraction. It wasn't hard to see that they were meant to be. I loved all their interactions both in the bedroom and out of it. They had these sparring matches that gave me a chuckle but also underlined what was simmering beneath the surface between them and it was hot I loved all that build up.

I also liked their relationship and how they each made the other stronger. They helped heal one another. They could relate to each other because of their past. Their relationship was the best thing that could happened to them. And I really loved seeing that deep level in their relationship. There were pretty much more than lust going on from the beginning. They had that deeper connection that I loved seeing and developing and growing over the coarse of the book.

I was a tad disappointed with the love scenes in the book. Not in so much the actual scenes but just how many there were. I was anticipating a lot more than the three that were. Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the love scenes that were there. They were sexy, hot and just real page turner, but I wanted more. More sweaty sexy scenes especially with them being stuck in the cabin for a whole weekend. I can just imagine how hot that weekend was, and I wanted to see it not just the first time. That was such a tease. I didn't need every dirty detail of the weekend but a couple more more would lad have been nice. I was glad the fireplace scene was in there. There's nothing like Christmas and a romantic fireplace scene.

Again this was another great read by Maisey Yates. She knows how to bring out the emotional stories with sexy scenes lingering in the background. It was the same with Madison and Sam's story. There was build up and tension in the entire story. It was fun. It playful at times. It was emotional and raw. It went deep beneath the surface to really gut Madison and Sam until they were at their most vulnerable but their relationship allowed them to heal. There wasn't a lot of angst but I don't really care because how this story was written to keep me engrossed. And angst in a romance for me is a big deal so when I say that it didn't matter it wasn't in there. That's saying something. It was really good and hooked from page one. Only complaint I wanted it longer so there could be more sexy scenes in the cabin between Sam and Madison or just more of them period.

I love this series so much and I hate that I have wait until next year for new stories to arrive. I can't wait for some secondary characters to get their happily ever afters. I hope this series never ends.

Hold Me, Cowboy was a quick, enjoyable read with an incredibly hot romance and characters looking for a second chance at happiness.

Madison West and Sam McCormack are like night and day and generally try to avoid each other. However when a snowstorm traps them together, the attraction they’ve been ignoring for years finally comes to a head. After a wild night of no-strings sex isn’t enough, they decide to use the twelve days leading up to Christmas to fulfill their needs. But when their twelve days are up, will they be able to walk away?

Madison is used to taking charge in order to get things done, but otherwise strives not to rock the boat and create another scandal. After becoming an outcast in town due to her affair with a married older man when she was 17, Madison is very wary of trusting others. The situation did cause her to grow a thick skin and she's fairly self-reliant as well. I enjoyed watching her open up and learning to trust again.

Sam devotes most of his time to his family and his work (whether that’s on the West ranch or working on his metal art). Outside of his work and his family, there isn’t much else Sam has time for, so we never really find out if there are any other hobbies he enjoys. Sam has a lot of issues when it comes to discussing his art or taking pride in what he does. The issues he has are understandable once you know the circumstances and I enjoyed the journey he went on in this book related to his art.

Madison and Sam had amazing chemistry right from their first scene together. I loved all of their banter and flirting. When things get physical, it’s incredibly hot and those scenes were my favorite part of the book. Unfortunately, the emotional side of their relationship seemed to develop too quickly and I never fully bought into it. Granted, it was still enjoyable to read, I simply liked their physical scenes more as there was better chemistry and less drama.

The characters from other books who show up in this one are mainly from the West books (One Night Charmer, Tough Luck Hero and Last Chance Rebel) as well as Sam’s brother’s story, which was the first Copper Ridge: Desire book (Take Me, Cowboy). As always with the Copper Ridge books, I love all of the cameos the author builds into these books.

Overall, Hold Me, Cowboy was a nice addition to the Copper Ridge universe and I definitely recommend it for fans of the series.

I feel like I missed a whole storyline with the Wests by reading this one. I read Book 1 of the Cooper Ride Desire series and it didn't feel that way, but it was obvious I should have read maybe the Cooper Ridge West Trilogy before beginning this book so I wasn't completely lost with the West family drama. That's the only bad thing about connecting series that are necessarily clear that you need to start one series before moving on. Oh well, lesson learned.

The sex was hot, that's for sure. But this one had too much emotional baggage and drama for me. It didn't start that way, which was what was so disappointing. Sam is rough and broody. Madison comes out crass and elitist in the beginning. But we learn that they both carry emotional damage around with them and are still punishing themselves for things that happened long ago. And it's pretty deep hurts and supposed transgressions that they're dealing with, not at all what I was expecting.

They went from enemies to lovers to soulmates pretty quickly. Granted, they did spend a lot of time together and during that time they also had a lot of deep personal discussions, so they did learn a lot about each other during that time together. In a way, I can find their love believable because of that. But at the same time, it seemed rushed given all their baggage and fears they had to overcome.

Unfortunately, this book just didn't do it for me. If it were longer, I may have liked it better, but it was too short to find a lot of it believable.

Hold Me, Cowboy (Copper Ridge) by Maisey Yates
•Blacksmith Cowboy
Self imposed pain is the worst because you don't feel like anyone understands. Or that you don't deserve their understanding. That is what these two characters Sam and Maddy have to figure out. But will they end up doing it together or will they continue to hide in their pain filled pasts? You'll have to read Hold Me, Cowboy to find out how or all comes to a head... pounding iron or pounded hearts? Due to sexual content this novel is recommended for readers 17 and older. I love Maisey Yates books. This one was enjoyable enough. There was a lot of inner dialogue, that kinda dragged on. But I did like that characters, Sam and Madison.

Maddy was beautiful and smart. She was also strong, and finding her way after a devastating heartache.

“Self-protection was her favorite accessory. It went with everything.”

Sam was a sexy as hell cowboy I wanted to ride. Hehe. There was some steamy moments between the two. I do wish their story was longer, a little more developed.

***I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review, which was originally posted on book blog Will Read for Feels.

It’s hard to believe that I was only introduced to the town of Copper Ridge early last year, when Maisey Yates released book 1, Part Time Cowboy in her series set in this small town set on the coast of Oregon. Book 9, Hold Me, Cowboy, dropped earlier this month and now I’m fully invested in this community because I know so many of its upstanding citizens.

Hold Me, Cowboy brings together two characters from families that have intrigued me. I met artist, blacksmith, and cowboy Sam McCormack in the book featuring his brother and fellow rancher Chase, Take Me, Cowboy. I was right away charmed by this grumpy rancher with an overabundance of talent and undersized serving of self-esteem, especially when he gave his brother a much-needed boot to the behind when he needed it most.

The other half of the Hold Me, Cowboy pairing is Maddy West, from the family that’s long been Copper Ridge royalty, only their shine has been tarnished by scandal and financial woes. And while Maddy may come off as an ice princess, I learned from previous novels featuring her siblings that she hides a whole lot of hurt from the world, not to mention anger and shame, even if that shame shouldn’t be hers to bear.

This couple is an interesting combination because it has the potential to be as toxic as it is explosive, and honestly, it’s plain to see how they could heal each other as easily as break the already damaged pieces of each other’s hearts and psyches. It’s reaffirming to see how they choose love and joy and a helluva lot of hot sex—which, by the way, we get a steamy dose of right from the get-go.

As far as Christmas stories go, this one’s a bit understated, but that just meant I felt I could enjoy it at any time of the year, had I picked this book up long after it had been published. And while it has not usurped Brokedown Cowboy as my Copper Ridge fave, it’s definitely a sweet and steamy read perfect for curling up with on a cool afternoon with a hot cup of cocoa and a mood for romance.

Welcome back to Copper Ridge when you fall in love just as quickly with the town as the characters that Yates develops for her readers. The scene development is vivid and really brings this small town to life. The plot was sizzling hot and a lot of fun, while also emotional and at times shocking.

I enjoyed seeing this other side of Maddy and learning about her history. It was shocking yet really allowed me to understand who she was and how she became the person that we've come to know throughout the series. Her hard edges are quite interesting and add so many dimensions to who she is. And the way that she interacted with Sam? (Who's definitely swoon-worthy all on his own in all his damaged cowboy glory). The two of these two were explosive together.

This was a fantastic addition to the Copper Ridge series. It adds a lot of background to characters that returning readers have come to know and love and is a great introduction for those new to the series.

Please note that I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this novel.

I had really high hopes for Madison's story (she's always been one of my favorite secondary characters throughout this series) and this book delivered. One of the things that I've always loved about Yates' books, especially in this series, is that she celebrates the good things about small town life -- the love of place, the connectedness to one's neighbors, the feeling of being known -- but also discusses the bad things about small towns. There's so much depth in her writing, and that's why the series continues to be interesting after so many books. With each new couple, Yates is exploring Copper Ridge as a character just as much as she's telling another fantastic love story.

Just one more thought on this book. I absolutely loved it because Maddy and Sam got to find love without sacrificing their surliness and general snark. It's so nice to have grumpy characters get their happily ever after.

This was an enemies to lovers story. Sam had worked on Maddie's ranch for years, but at this point, he is an artist & doesn't work at the ranch out of necessity. They have always rubbed each other the wrong way, but as it turns out, it is because they are both defensive due to circumstances in their past relationships. When they get together, they have both been abstinent for years, so the sexual frustration turns into combustible sex between them. They put a limit on it - the weeks leading up to Christmas. Needless to say, it turns into more, but Sam fights a relationship in a big way. I loved seeing how these two worked out their problems, mostly by Maddie talking it out & bringing things to the surface. Pretty quick read.

I vowed not to read any more books in this series, but when SEDUCE ME COWBOY showed up on Miss Bates Reads Romance's best of 2017, I picked that one up as well as this one. In part because I wanted to see what kind of love story Yates would give tough girl Madison, the sister of several other protagonists in earlier books in the series. At 17, Madison had an affair with a much older, and married, horseback riding instructor, and the town turned on her. Ten years later, we discover, she has not recovered from that episode of slut shaming she experienced. She's snarky and condescending, even cruel at times, to keep people at a distance. And she's not had sex, not once, since that disastrous affair (!).

This story opens with Madison vowing to fix that problem, renting a winter cabin for a hookup with a guy she's just started to date. But a snowstorm leaves said guy stuck in town. When the power goes out, Madison discovers that staying in the neighboring cabin is none other than local Copper Ridge farrier and upcoming metal artist Sam. Though she's always treated Sam with contempt, after a glass or two of wine, Madison decides to ask him to help her with her sexual dry spell. Sam's been working on a dry spell of his own, but takes Madison up on her challenge. And scorching hot sex ensues.

After returning to town, the two can't keep away from each other, and decide to engage in a short-term affair. Because Sam doesn't believe he's worthy of any woman's long-term commitment, and Maddie, I'm not quite sure why. In the formula for these books, one lover decides to risk all by declaring love, which the other rejects. And then a family member of the rejector has one conversation with the rejector, and the rejector magically decides he or she has been wrong all along.

I liked the fact that Yates was dealing with issues of slut shaming here (and that Madison's reaction has deeper causes than what we first are told). But I didn't particularly care for the implicit message that a victim of slut shaming can recover only after finding a man to love her. And something else, which don't know if I can quite articulate—Madison internalized the shame of being slut shamed so deeply that even though by book's end she has has overcome her anger at her past treatment, it hardly feels like a triumph. She hasn't repudiated the shame, but is just choosing to move beyond it. Does that make sense?

I also don't enjoy stories with male characters who feel they are undeserving for no really good reason...

Madison West intent to break 10 years of celibacy in a cabin-weekend. At seventeen, she became an outcast when the town discovered she fell in love and had an affair with an older and married man who played her for a fool. But she just decided that she had enough of been ashamed. But when the friend she was supposed to meet cannot join her and a power failure force her to seek refuge at the cabin next door, she don't think things will turn to her advantage. The occupant is less than please but he can't let her freeze to death. Maddy didn't expect to spend the weekend with the cocky family's farrier. Neither did he thought he would hang out with the snotty ice princess. But after a weekend full of sexual tension, innuendo and banters who resulted in dirty talk and a sexcapade, they both want to continue with the no-string fooling around. The deal is 12 days of hot sex before Christmas.

"How did I never notice that you aren't horrible ?"
"Not horrible ? You be careful throwing around compliments like that, missy. A man could get the wrong idea."

" The man was a mystery. And she shouldn't care about that. She should not want to unlock, unravel or otherwise solve him. "

Maisey Yates story are always heavy with emotions but it's never oppressive. In fact, it's what makes it a success (and her writing style). You can always count on her to bring you a story where her characters can finally heal from their past mistakes or the wounds of the past. Maddy and Sam were both hurting and closed their heart to others for so long to keep the hurt inside. He didn't want to feel, he didn't want to care and he still tried to hide behind a grumpy attitude, but she was so brave in trying to knock down the walls he erected around his heart and not letting him shutting her down when he was freaking out about feelings more. In addition to being a farrier, Sam is a blacksmith and an artist who create sculptures. I enjoyed seeing this part of him.

"She didn't know why she was doing this. She didn't know where she imagined it could possibly end or how it would be helpful to her in any way. To add more pieces of him to her heart, to her mind."

Well, this is an odd one. I picked this up as we are doing a cowboy holiday romance display in my library and I wanted to read and write a review of one. Cowboys usually aren't something I am remotely into with my romantic interests, so this was a new sub-genre for me, and I don't think it's anything I'd go back to.

Madison West is a horse trainer looking to have a no-strings-attached night out with the guy she's seeing and hopefully, getting laid for the first time in a decade. Of course, the weather strikes and the power goes out in her home, causing the date to be ruined. In the meantime, she runs across the street to get help from Sam McCormack, a farrier who works on her family ranch. There's tension between them and they agree to a friends-with-benefits sexual situation for the two weeks leading up to Christmas. Unsurprisingly, they have a lot of trauma from past relationships and don't know how to communicate, but are clearly interested in more from one another.

This book was so damn weird. I don't even know why it felt so odd, but the pacing felt all over the place. They jump into bed together very quickly and then immediately argue about what they are to one another for the next several chapters. Once we hit the last third of the book it changes form dramatically, and our main characters reveal really deep-set traumas they have suffered that feel a bit out of nowhere. It's a steamy romance up until that point and then BAM lots of sad, awful discussion about trauma. Sam is not a likable character for me, I could barely stand reading about him, whereas Madison was annoying but also had a backbone and had clearly grown from her experiences. At least one person in this book went to therapy.

The sex scenes were all fine but the dirty talk had me cringing. I think Sam was so unattractive to me, I found it hard to see anything romantic or interesting in their relationship. Meh all around.

I feel like I’ve been waiting forever to read Maddy’s story. Even though she’s as prickly as a porcupine, I’ve always had a soft spot for her. Then, when she really seemed to relate to her oldest brother Gage in Last Chance Rebel, I knew there was way more to her than even her siblings could guess. So her real story (which we know half of already) came as no surprise. Instead I was blown away by the back story on Sam.

Of course, Sam was more of a mystery going into this book. He was mentioned a time or two in the Copper Ridge series and we got to see him a bit more in his brother’s story in the Copper Ridge: Desire series. The pain this man has held onto is unimaginable. It takes quite a bit of the book before we get his true story but it’s worth the wait. He puts so much on his own shoulders and holds so much inside.

Maddy’s dad is a much-hated character by me. When we get the full story of Maddy’s “incident” from when she was a teenager I despised him all the more. How any of his children turned out able to have friendships let alone relationships is beyond me.

Madi hasn't had sex in ten years. So, she decided to fix it by renting a cabin with a guy she randomly flirted with. But because of the snowstorm, she is now stuck and needs the help with the cabin neighbor. Sam, the cabin neighbor and Madi's nemesis, decided to help her with her problem. And now they decided that twelve days before Christmas is all they need to get it all out of their system.

I actually like this book. I'm not really a fan of the cowboy lead, but it was the only Christmas romance audiobook that was available in the library. So, I tried it. And I was pleased with it.

The story is the haters-to-lovers trope, so it has a generic story line. But I like how for a short book, they have good character developments. I also like the back stories of the characters. Very well done, and quite unique. I would say.

The steamy scenes are a plus too. I like them. And I love that both characters are consensual about it. Not the lady saying 'no', but the guy still keeps going at it. So I really like that they were both proactive in the story.

Pretty good stuff. And it's a quick read. The audiobook is four hours, so if you're not into those long books, an just want to read all day, this book is a good one.

This my first Maisey Yates book and based on Hold Me, Cowboy, it sure won't be my last! I've never read a Copper Ridge novel but the good news is that this read stands well on its own. Sam and Maddy are from two different worlds- he's a metal worker who outfits the horseshoes on the horses at Maddy's family's ranch. Maddy and Sam find themselves at the same out-of-town getaway on the same weekend. Thanks to a power outage and a closed road, these two find themselves thrown together and the sparks that they've managed to contain within their working relationship starts flying like crazy once a proposition is put on the table.
I enjoyed this book entirely too much, from the dialogue between these two characters to the red-hot sex scenes to the great supporting characters who, if I had to bet, probably have their own Copper Ridge reads. The baggage these two bring to the table seems like a lot and is far heavier than I was expecting, but the way they work it out is realistic enough. And I liked how despite how short the book was, these two characters had a lot of depth. This is a perfect afternoon read with a couple who the reader will root for.

I enjoyed this second book in the Harlequin Desire Copper Ridge series. I started the series not knowing that it included books outside of Harlequin Desire so I’ll have to go back and read those as some point, I’d like to fill in a little bit of the back story but these are easily read as stand alones.

I enjoyed both the heroine and hero who we met in the previous book. I thought the heroine had some sh!$$y parents and would have liked to have seen more of the closer connection she has with her siblings but it a short book so you can’t get it all. Same with the ending, wrapped up WAY too fast.

Also this book takes place in the two weeks leading up to Christmas but there is really no Christmas feel to it. I want snow, cold, icy, twinkling lights, Christmas trees, cinnamon...you get the idea.

On to the next one.

This book was short and spicy 🌶️ 🌶️

This story is set in Copper Ridge. This story centers around a guy named Sam McCormack. Sam is a wealthy rancher. He meets a woman named Madison West. Madison makes plans for the weekend at a cabin with a salesman that she invites to the cabin. He can’t make it because the roads are closed due to heavy snow.

The lights in her cabin go out and she is in lingerie. She puts on a coat and goes to a nearby cabin. She ends up meeting Sam and they end up snowed in together. They end up wanting more when they end up back in Copper Ridge. Sam proposes twelve days of no strings attached fun before Christmas and Madison agrees. She ends up wondering can it really be enough ???? I felt that Sam was a bit of a jerk when he broke it off with her. He didn’t do any groveling to win her back in the end. It did wrap up a bit too quickly for me.

The only reason I’m giving this a 4 is because 12 days to fall in love is so unrealistic... or is it? However, I did adore Sam and Maddy’s relationship! Sam working for her father, Maddy being the boss’ daughter, Sam never saw her coming. Both with their past, come together for 12 days of sex and let me tell you, it’s HOT. Big muscular Sam... what a hunk. In this story they’re both battling their demons but they get to know each other more than the people around them, and this “12 days” pact is starting to seem like it will be more. The ending was so what you expect it to be, but I love when it came together! Maisey Yates never disappoints!!!

Sam McCormack and Madison West are like oil and water. Sam thinks Madison is Miss High and Mighty and she thinks that he is Mr. Grumpy . So he is not happy when she shows up at the door of the cabin he has rented for his weekend get away.

Madison has plans for a sizzling weekend! While she prepares for her date to show up the power suddenly goes out. When she goes to her cabin neighbor Sam is the last person she expects to see. Now the two of them are stranded during a snow storm at his cabin. They agree to a no-strings weekend. But will that weekend be enough?

This is probably Yates' best short story/novella yet, which is a relief because I really wanted Madison to get a good story. I really liked Madison and Sam together, and they both had really interesting backstories that I liked seeing them grapple with. My main complaint is that their healing process was almost too easy. Especially for Madison. After carrying all of that around for 10 years, she just one day decides she's ready to heal from it? And all it takes is sleeping with Sam and having him hold her? I feel like if this had been a full-length novel, it would have been amazing, because then Yates would have had space to fully flesh everything out. But even at more of a novella length, I still enjoyed Sam and Madison a lot and quickly became invested in their story. It's definitely the best short story or novella I've read in the Copper Ridge series so far, but I still think Yates really shines with full length novels.

2/5 stars.

The high Goodreads rating is very confusing tbh.

Stupid characters, no plot, ridiculous amount of background "trauma". I didn't expect much of it but the spice was incredibly bland and half of the story is focused on all the other tall, dark, redeemed cowboys and their gorgeous, sunshiny girlfriends of the series. I don't a s. thank you.

Lots of pet peeves of mine but the MC confessing her love 5 minutes into the relationship ? Send help.
