Glory Days: Trusting the God Who Fights for You

Rate this book
Keep walking. This may be the day your Jericho walls come down. We all face them. Strongholds with a strong hold on our lives. Roadblocks to our joy. Obstacles in our marriages. Fortresses of fear blocking us from peace. How can we bring down these walls that keep us from the future God promises? Remember the story of Joshua and the battle of Jericho? Those were some formidable foes and big barriers. Max Lucado says the book of Joshua is in the bible to remind us of one God fights for us! We can overcome, because He has already overcome. We were not made to stand in the shadow of our walls and quake. We were made to stand on top of Jericho's rubble and conquer. We win, because God's already won. Need a new battle plan for life? Keep walking, keep believing. These may be your glory days.

I have read - and enjoyed - so many Max Lucado books and "Glory Days" is definitely one of my favorites! "Glory Days" revolves around the story of Joshua and the Israelites entering the Promised Land and conquering their enemies and gaining victory through God's hand! This is such an inspirational read! Lucado shares personal stories as well as tells the Old Testament story of Joshua. I definitely learned a lot about the historical aspects of these passages of the Bible (details like the tragic story of Achan and his family) as well as also gaining spiritual insight. Some of the main points in Lucado's books were: remember the miracles God has done in your life, to trust God to destroy the obstacles in your path and to remember that God fights for you. One of the chapters I loved was "Walk Circles around Jericho." There was a section that said: "he told the people to keep quiet. Don't say a word. Don't chitchat. No opinion giving or second guessing. No whining or chatting. Keep your mouth shut and the trumpets loud." I loved this chapter as Lucado gives a clear account of how the walls came down - and the victory came - through and from God. My book has questions for reflections and a preview of Max's daily devotional at the end. A must-read!!

Max Lucado has a gift for putting into simplistic terms complex theological premises. This is much needed in this pandemic world that has resulted in people urgently seeking answers to serious questions. When Lucado quotes Jesus in Joshua 1:5-6, "I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous," he confirms God's presence in our lives despite the perils we face during Covid. Another time, Lucado compares God's guidance with GPS by saying that "God gives us information as we need it but not before." Therefore, we must blindly trust God. Lucado chronicles the actions of Joshua in fighting the "invisible yet forceful fallen angel, who desired the high place only God could occupy."Lucado encourages the reader to "Remember whose you are. You are not who you used to be. You are God's child." The author's messages are a comfort to the reader in this troubling time. God is in control. Take comfort in God's love.

I liked how each chapter started out with a story that tied into the section of Joshua the author was teaching about.

The entire book based on trusting in God's promises. The last chapter hit me the hardest... ~when you are wondering what to do when your worst nightmare comes true - you have to choose...
FAITH or FEAR
A GOD OR KNOWS AND CARES or A GOD WHO ISN'T THERE
GOD'S PURPOSE or RANDOM HISTORY
*We all CHOOSE"
Faith is a choice - choose faith.
No words written on paper will ever sustain you like the promises of God.

If you are not keen on devotionals or study guides with scripture readings taken from different places in the Bible, Glory days by well-known author Max Lucado might appeal to you.

An easy to read journey throught the book of Joshua, leads the reader to discover the promises, challenges and rewards of moving into the life that God has planned for His children, but which, sadly, we so often miss.

Following the afterword and comprehensive notes added by the author, you will find a section, Questions for reflection, by David Drury. I would strongly suggest that each part is handled directly after the relevant chapter of the book. I did not, and now find that I am lacking continuity. I will definately put this book aside and later return to it from scratch, read each chapter and then move to the questions for relection.

The remaining pages are made up of a preview of Max’s daily devotional, God is with you every day. Two weeks worths, provides a good idea of what to expect from this devotional.

Max Lucado’s writing style is so simplistic. He is gifted at applying Gods word into easily understood, practical scripture without removing or adding to it. The book of Joshua is spell-bounding. Joshua’s display of faithfulness is so encouraging and God’s grace, mercy, and love fills my heart with so much hopefulness and adoration! I’m a forever disciple of God and a fan favorite of Lucado!

Wasn’t my favorite of Lucado’s books, but it was still a good book. The story of the book of Jericho! Trust in god and let the walls come tumbling down at your feet! With god’s backing there is not obstacle we cannot overcome!

Using the Battle of Jericho as a foundation for this book, Max Lucado lays out a faith strategy for anyone facing challenges. I like the approach, because it is practical and applicable. As you turn the pages you will find yourself encouraged to trust God even more!

I really liked this book. I think it was funny that he talked about that elections don’t faze God when we have a major election coming up this November.
