If you are trying to teach young students a lesson on the sun, then The Sun by Ron Bacon is a great book to start with. The illustrations are kid-friendly, and the text is simple and straight to the point. Bacon uses comparisons to help students understand in easier terms what the sun is actually like. One of the comparisons he uses is “If the sun was as big as a beach ball, our earth would be about as big as a pea!” I think students could really get excited about this book, making them become more involved in learning and participating in their science lesson.
Using this book in a primary classroom could easily help students learn the beginning facts about the sun. With different sections about day and night, the seasons, and how we can help our sun, this is the perfect book to put in a child’s eager hands. At the primary level, students can be more excited when they are able to understand and somewhat relate to the lesson that is being taught, and Ron Bacon’s The Sun is the easiest way to get students to be willing to learn.
