Kate Jones always plays it safe. She’s perfectly content with her life and her job as a legal assistant. Until the day she falls into the lap of Edward Turner. Handsome and well-spoken, he’s everything she never knew she wanted. His warm touch sets her body on fire with a deep, aching lust that makes her yearn to risk everything for just one night in his bed. It’s a damn shame he’s her new boss. Author’s This novel contains explicit and steamy sex scenes that may not be your cup of tea. It is intended for mature readers only.

A book that shows borderline sexual harassment. It's still inappropriate even if the PA happily has the hots for the boss - especially as their firm has a no fraternization policy. What's worse is that he starts grabbing her right from the beginning. And all because his dormant libido has finally woken up and it wannnts only the h.
So, in a conversation with his dead wife (yes, that goes on throughout...will come to it later) they both hash out that he needs this one night with his hot PA to 'get back in the saddle'. And, then one day the h says yes to the one night...but that 'one night' thing keeps expanding - to 'a weekend' to a 'once more' or one for the road till it's a one whole month! This is obviously a smut or a high steam book but that shouldn't let the h come across as a doormat or a woman with zero self-restraint or self-respect. And I am putting the onus on her because even when she realizes he still loves the dead wife and she's just a shag, she still put up with it. It was pretty lowering to read. Also, too much focus on sex and too many sex-scenes doesn't leave much space for the story to develop.
The dead wife. No, it's not a ghost (at least I think not!) but he keeps having this conversation in his head with Tabitha the dead in a most weird way, with the 'voice' encouraging 'my love' to move on and go for the h. It's funny when it was not weird.
The prequel with a similar premise (minus the dead wife but a parents' issue) is better. There's less or zero sexual harassment feel in that.

I was so excited for this book, but it went in a totally different direction than what I was expecting which was a huge let down for me.
I could have done without the dead wife back story to be honest. Edward was too caught up with his dead wife. He was constantly "hearing" and "talking" to his dead wife and not wanting to move on because he still loves her. After the first time he had sex with Kate, he sees his wife's face. It just rubbed me the wrong way. He kept pushing Kate away because he was still obsessed with his dead wife, but still sexing her because his sexual urges were too strong.
As for Kate, she was a pathetic heroine who I couldn't sympathize with. They barely had a romance due to the boss/employee relationship so it was just a discreet affair with sex between them throughout the story.
Sad to say I didn't enjoy this story and even regrets paying full price for it.
I love Ramona Gray's books. I've read every one and look forward to the next.
I've read some reviews that enjoyed The Assistant (1st book) better; but I like a sexy widower who hasn't slept with anyone since his wife passed away two years ago more than a bad boy who sleeps around and is afraid to commit although the sex scenes might have been a bit hotter.
I really appreciated the Epilogue. I recommend reading both books and in order. They are short enough to easily get through both in a week.
Was ok at first but then I thought O come on! Doormat.... And the work issue was mmmmm No, won't recommend this one. Barly made it to the ok pile. But I Will Try Some more Ramona Gray books. Am not Viviane up on this author jet...
CUTE, SEXY AND DELIGHTFULLY ENTERTAINING!!! Title: One Night Author: Ramona Gray Designation: Full-Length Standalone Novel, NO Cliffhanger My Rating: Five Delightfully Entertaining Stars***** I've been a diehard Ramona Gray fan for several years and look forward to her new releases. I adore contemporary romance, especially when it's sprinkled throughout with a little heartbreaking angst and a whole lot of cutesy humor, and Ramona has once again delivered the perfect combination. One Night is a light, fast-paced, well crafted, well edited, full-length standalone contemporary romance with a beautifully written third person his and her narrative. The dialogue is smart, well executed and flows effortlessly. But without a doubt, my favorite component of every Ramona Gray romance is her cast of engaging, totally relatable and sexy as sin characters.
I fell in love with the two protagonists of this story, handsome attorney Edward Turner who is still grieving the loss of his beloved first wife, and beautiful personal assistant Kate Jones, whose only relationship in the past year has been with her cat, Chicken. The attraction between Edward and Kate upon their first meeting on the train as strangers is immediate as well as off the charts hot. Regrettably, their attraction becomes somewhat awkward after they discover several hours later that Edward is Kate's new boss. Oh no! I thought these two characters were a perfect pairing and played off each other brilliantly. I was instantly smitten with Edward simply because he's not your typical cocky male hero. Edward is a charming but sensitive man, still reeling from the loss of his beloved wife Tabitha who died from a brain tumor only two years earlier. He's haunted by his memories of their happy life together and jumps at the opportunity to leave his old law firm in New York and moves across the country to accept a partnership offer with Harper and Thompson in California. Kate Jones, his new personal assistant, is the first woman to even catch his eye since his wife's death. Edward feels guilty for the undeniable attraction he feels toward Kate and is determined to fight his feelings for Kate, albeit unsuccessfully. And to complicate the situation even further, dating among coworkers is strictly forbidden. What's the old saying about forbidden fruit always tasting the sweetest?!? And Kate is an absolute delight. I fell in love with Kate and her pet cat, Chicken, whom we met briefly in Gray's previous release, The Assistant, which featured Kate's younger sister, Lina Jones, who, ironically, also falls in love with her boss. Naturally, Kate wisely advised Lina to never fall for her boss since it would only lead to disaster. lol... Well, what goes around, comes around as Kate learns never to say never! Add in a delightful cast of supporting characters which includes a cranky pet cat rescued from the shelter named Chicken who seems to dislike everyone but Edward, a jealous vindictive female lawyer who seems to hate Kate and would love nothing better to see her lose her job, a lawyer from a competing firm who wants to offer Kate more than just a job, a deceased wife determined to help her grieving husband find love again, and you have the perfect recipe for a sweet, sexy, heartwarming romance that is sure to tickle your fancy as well as tug on your heartstrings!
In order to determine my rating for a book, there are several questions I always ask myself. First, did I like, love or hate this book? Quite simply, I loved it! If you're in the mood for a fun, flirty, sexy romp filled to the brim with heated attraction, fiery passion and steamy, dreamy romance, then this is definitely the book for you! Second, was there anything about the book I didn't like? In all honesty, not a darn thing! It was well crafted, well written and well edited. Sure, there a few minor boo-boos but no major problems as suggested by a previous reviewer and absolutely nothing that distracted me from the story. I read the reviews before purchasing this book and found the remarks of bad editing made by another reviewer to be groundless and completely false. Don't take my word for it; you can actually read the first two chapters of the book in the free sample offered by Amazon. I think you'll find I speak the truth. I'm not a professional reviewer but I know what I like, what I love and what I don't and I loved this story. Third, would I recommend this book? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain some exquisitely written love scenes. Fourth, will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! And finally, was I entertained? Oh lawd, yes, I was definitely entertained! I was immediately drawn into the story, held completely enthralled with the pages flying as did the time. Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
A beautiful, sexy, and funny story! I loved this story so much that I read it two more times after I originally read it. I had this whole cake analogy that I was going to use in this review but decided to just bare the truth. I freaking loved this book! The story opens with an attack from a domestic terrorist. Katie has a cat named Chicken who is a mean little turd, but he's a cat, so, yeah, there's that. There was a decidedly adorable meet/cute scene that just had to be the slickest writing of an uncomfortable situation that I have read in a long time, and I real a lot. I loved Katie and Olivia's relationship and their tight friendship. Katie and Olivia as well as Edward and Katie have conversations that will have you smiling even later when you are not actively reading them. Their chemistry was off the charts hot, and I think I'm only talking about Edward and Katie, but she and Olivia could have gone there and it wouldn't have been too weird. I love how supportive the girls are with each other and that they drink Margarita's and not Daiquiri's. That just proves how real they are with each other. Real friends drink Tequila together, acquaintances and associates drink rum but that's probably just my own hang up. The way the secret romance heats up with their misguided "one night" agreement was genius. Katie had job security issues and Edward had some dark tendencies, His past weighed heavy on his mind. The story had bits where they accidentally touched and it set off a whole other set of circumstances that were so flammable and sexy hot that I will admit that I may have read those parts over and over again a few times... and bookmarked them... go ahead and judge me, you'll probably do the same. The more they tried to deny what was happening, tried to run away from it, the more the situation kept evolving into a hot stew of simmering sexual tension. It was hot and sweet at the same time. Katie and Edward were both scared to take the next step and both were worried about the whole work/romance thing taking over and messing up their lives.
Boss/assistant. He's a widower who has conversations with his late wife in his head. They meet on the train when she literally falls into his lap and then of course when she gets to work, he's her new boss! They say they're only going to have one night together but that's a lie! They go at it like bunnies! There are some serious boundary issues throughout this book and not just the boss/assistant thing. There's a very grumpy cat. Phone sex interruptus. The hero needs to grovel a lot more. It was a bonkers book, and so much was so wrong but I was still very entertained.
I DNFed this at about 30%. I liked the book before this and decided to give this one a try, but I didn't engage with either main character, and the H was kind of a jerk. When he grabbed her out of the blue, it felt much more like sexual harassment than anything else.
A cat named Chicken? This book is not my cup of tea. I don't mind the sex but the unimaginative, predictable plot (if you can call it that) was less than I was expecting.
Honestly ? I wanna write a review to help both Ms.Gray and to promote this book but I feel kinda lost.... One minute I felt caught up in their chemistry the next not soo much,I enjoyed the book but I wasn't able to hang on to the excitement the snippet at the end of Kate's sisters ( Lina) book inspired, after reading that snippet at the end of " The Assistant" I was chomping at the bit to read more about the sensual sexual chemistry I'd read about and while I certainly can't say this story fell flat for me in any way really,it just didn't keep my interest or attention either, maybe the story was too simple too easy, I mean except for the whole " don't sleep w/the underlings " policy and two different women being snotty and trying to push their unwanted selves on Edward there was never any REAL tension or drama.... Their chemistry was good but it felt kinda hit and miss ,on and I for at times ,though Edward ( growls softly) was soo sexy smexy in his jealous or Alpha dog moments ;) their was t enough of those... Wanted more passion at times and more backstory on others like, Why was Edwards hand soo callused ? Every time they had sex just about his rough or calloused hands were mentioned but he's a Lawyer ? Surely pushing/filing papers are only good for paper cuts and typing should never leave your hands " rough or callused " .. Right ? I mean if like me you have a geek in your life you can't ( numerous) complaints ( like 20 minutes to "fix" something really being 2 hours or how engrossed they can get in a game or a code and forget you exist for hours on end) but rough fingers from typing ? Not really.... And Kate ,does all she do is work, deal /chicken, hang Olivia and her hubs and watch tv and rinderpest and repeat til Edward ? While I've read too many books of late that had too much story and not enough plot or substance or even romance ( werewolf hunter that spent more tim moping at home, drawing, working her garden or going to tea parties than anything else and mooning, dreaming and drawing a sexy local alpha werewolf and yet holding him at arms length because she was taught all werewolves are evil and because she kissed the scientist ( old enough to be her father 50 to her 24) who's lived w/her for years and wasn't interested til recently and even those he's left the planet for a few months after a few kisses she must " remain faithful to him" WTF ? Right ?) But even after that and chomping at the bit to read this for months now ,I was just left w/aaaaaaaaaaaa that was nice ;) Not the reaction I was hoping to feel... Good book, simple story ,just never connected like I wanted to,probably just me,hoping next time I read this I'll be raving about how absolutely awesome this book was!!! But for just go round it was just really, really nice, most than most the stuff I've come across of late but didn't set my heart a flutter like I'd hoped ;) Well except for Edwards few growly alpha moments ;) Ps. Wow!! Wow was that new snippet different or what ?!? Soo not The Assistant or One Night!! Wow,if I didn't remember parts of the Vampires Kiss I wouldn't have thought it was miss Gray... Can't say I'm as excited or as interested as last time but I do like a good menage and "Sharing Del" sounds like it might be especially when a woman has problems w/monogamy like she does, I am intrigued...
Without doubt, I enjoyed reading 'One Night': from the likeable characters to the few LOL-moments in the book. Edward & Kate were amazing as a couple. I can say I liked them both, aside from the fact that Edward had occasional conversations in his head with his dead wife... Kinda weird (Right?!), I get that it was his way coping with things and so on, but sometimes it was just too much for me:
You know, my love, I always thought your jealousy was adorable but you should probably reign it in a bit. I am not jealous. Do you forget who you’re speaking to, my love? No. I know exactly who I’m speaking to and I’m starting to wonder if maybe having conversations with my dead wife is a sign that I need therapy.
He grimaced and shoved Tabitha’s voice out of his head. ~ They love you. They want you to be happy, Tabitha said. I was happy with you. Was, my love. Our time is over. He winced and stood up abruptly. Tabitha had always been blunt, it was one of the things he had loved most about her, but now it was like a stab in the back. Mumbling something about needing fresh air, he hurried out of the living room as the rest of the family stared at him. ~ “I do. I was just too afraid to admit it to myself. I was so afraid that I was using you as a replacement for Tabitha that I wouldn’t let myself admit that I loved you. I was so stupid, Katie, and I knew I was being stupid but it wasn’t until Tabitha told me – “ “What?” Kate interrupted. His cheeks flushed. “I have conversations sometimes with Tabitha in my head. She – she told me I was being an idiot and that I needed to tell you how much I loved you.” She stared silently at him and he cleared his throat. “It sounds crazy, I know, but – “ “It doesn’t,” she said.
I don't understand how Kate was so okay with all of it and mostly with the fact that Edward was still inlove with Tabitha... Maybe she was just that selfless. One thing for sure: not a lot of women would have been that understanding.
Wow! I am quite surprised at the deep topics brought to life in this fabulous book. Ms. Gray continues to surprise me. Edward is unlike her previous H and brings a vulnerability and rawness to the pages. He may have become my favorite H from this author. Kate, what can I say about Kate? Well she is a strong, take no nonsense h. Their romance is intense and rocky from the very beginning. The sexual tension and sexual encounters are crazy sexy and had me panting. If you are a fan of a sexy read with an addicting storyline than I highly recommend this book! I received a copy in exchange for an honest review and boy am I thankful. I was in no way disappointed.
This is only getting two stars because the plot was a decent. However, the grammar and spelling errors, were far too much for me to handle. I ONLY finished it, because I paid for it. Even then I wish I never did. For the price it was NOT worth it.
It was like it never had an edit done at all. Even simple stuff like commons or capitalizing a name.
It didn't even finish out plot lines.... What happened the Melissa? Huh? I don't understand why everyone is loving this book.
This book almost broke my heart near the end, and yet you can't help but root for both Kate and Edward. Kate is a wonderful person who runs into Edward before she learns that he's her new boss, and they connect immediately. Edward, while working hard not to fall for Kate, comes up with a plan to get over her, but it backfires, and their one night isn't enough. It's a heartfelt book and a must read for both Kate and Edward!!!
Hot, Sexy, Angsty, Nibble on your Earlobe, True Love!
This is my second book from Ms. Gray that I have had the delightful pleasure to read. Ms. Gray has a wonderful skill set for writing in this genre. This description of the musings and interactions of the two main lovers is artfully and sinfully, panty combustible hot! The pacing is excellent and creates a rapt audience. It is a blissful escape which every reader of romance craves.
Wow! Just WOW! I promise you will not be disappointed, except for the fact the end of the book, it's over. Loved this entire story. Definitely will be a re-read later.
