The Ruby Iyer Universe has provided me with hours of entertainment already. So, when I heard that Author Laxmi Hariharan has come up with a short story set in the same universe, albeit a different timeline, I jumped up at the chance of getting my hands on an ARC. And Laxmi doesn’t disappoint her fans.

Untamed is the story of Leana Iyeroy trying to come to terms with who she is. She is a half wolf - half human hybrid with has blood on her hands. In order to try discovering her true self and finding her path - her place in this new world, Leana travels to meet the legendary Hugging Saint. Does she find the answer she is looking for?

The problem with short stories is that… well, it is short. But Laxmi has packed in so much within those 7000 words that it delivers a lot more than one would expect. The world is changing from what we know so far and the changes intrigue me. But do not worry if you are a stranger to the Ruby Iyer Universe, you can read this as a standalone short story and it would still be equally interesting. I loved the way the author has set up the world, introduced the protagonist, put across the struggles of the character and delivered the bottom line of the story in so very few words. The narration style is something that is easy to understand yet has a feeling of grandeur about it.

I read this novel titled as "Fated" in the Many Lives Box Set.
The story is about Leana coming to Bombay and her early months and friends there, of her coming-of-age and accepting herself and her fate to fight the evil vampires.

I enjoyed this story. My partner grew up in India and is always telling me stories about it. Eventhough this story is set in the future it is still very contemporary. I plan on reading more of Hariharan works.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. This is a very short story and geared towards young readers who enjoy fantasy, paranormal and shifter based tales. Please note that while part of a series, this story can still be read as a standalone. I have only read two others of this series, not in order, and haven’t had any issues in following along and keeping up...but then again there really isn’t much to any of these “books” that you will get lost reading. I can’t even call it a book...I mean honestly, twenty pages? The one prior to this was only about sixty’ish pages. This is pretty consistent for this author and I can’t even begin to tell you how disappointed I am. I dislike when authors put out stories such as this; so short a story I feel as if my time was wasted. It’s so irritating; honestly, you barely start reading and it’s already over. Why did I even bother? Grrrrrr and yes, that is the feeling many of us get when faced with this kind of writing. You have no opportunity to really delve into a character, their emotions and/or the reasoning behind actions taken. The concept of the series itself is interesting overall. Give us instead, a good, solid read with this concept you have and we’d be very satisfied; as is, I have no interest in reading this author’s work in the future.

A short story within the Many Lives universe that shoots a spotlight on Leana, half-wolf among pure humans, and exposes her desires and wild nature suppressed over years.
Although it is very fast read written in a style I much like - short sentences, short paragraphs, lots of dialogues - my overall feeling about the story is a bit incomplete. There are in-depth flashes and emotional situation that reveals certain character treats, but I lack more info to create a better picture of the character, to understand more. Also, there are some jumps in the story that make it less smooth and fluent than the previous stories from the author I have read, which brings a small cloud on the so far clear sky, because I love Laxmi's writing.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed the story much- the pictures of Bombay, mythical storytelling, development in the main character in the way she gets to know herself and accepts every part of her nature, the mysterious Hugging Saint and simple importance of human needs and desires. I would like to see the story more extensive, sure, but such a short scenes of one's live also have their own charm.
I was given a copy for review purposes.

Untamed re-edited

OK so I read the first copy of this book, it was shorter so had alot packed in quick but also had alot missing. I enjoyed the read but after reading this redo? Holy emotional roller coaster!!!!!
I feel so much for Leana. Being abandoned by her real parents, admittedly one from death. Then having it come back to you to change your life? Meeting her father and what happened? WOW!! Then her journey to Bombay to her bloodline and what happens? Ok so she can be a bit cocky and needs to learn a thing or two, and what happens helps find her home BUT also brings heartache. I can't go on cause I don't want to spoil it. I can't wait to see what happens next as I also think that not everyone is as they seem.
OH MY !!

I was given a free copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.

This is a short read about Leena a girl on a journey to Bombay. I feel so much for her in a short time. She seems so lonely and ashamed sometimes of being a hybrid. All she wants is to be all human and to feel like she belongs somewhere and loved.  Facing the hugging boy as she calls him makes her face herself and find love.

This story is filled with so many emotions. We have a young hybrid shifter, Leana. who has always hated what she is and wants only to be human. She also is afraid that humans will learn about her parentage. Although she says she doesn't believe what people are saying about a young boy called the "Hugging Saint", she somehow finds herself going to the temple to see him. When she finally gets her hug, she becomes angry at what he tells her. This leads her to commit a horrific act and finally leads her to accept what she truly is. Talk about not wanting to give spoilers; I left you plenty of clues but to get the complete story and learn all about Leanna you need to get this book. For a complete picture of this series you can also pick up a free copy of her "Feral" book as well as the other books in the series. If you love reading dystopian, shifter stories with some romance thrown in, this series is definitely for you and you'll discover a very different type of story than your use to in these genre's. It's a fantastic story, with a very different dystopian story and some eye opening characters.

I am a huge fan of Laxmi Hariharan’s work, she is such a talented writer and i love the fact that her books are so different to anything i have ever read before, for me this makes her work even better.

This is a novella but unlike a lot of novella’s if feels longer and fuller than it is, you get a wealth of information in these words about a culture and a different way of living that may be alien to a lot of people but i soak this up like a sponge. There really aren't enough words to describe how much i adore this world that has come from an obviously vivid and creative mind!

The big lesson in this book for me is acceptance. Acceptance of your heritage, of your family and whatever the past has brought and acceptance of who you are inside as well as complete forgiveness and love from someone that can make everything feel ok, that you are not going to fall apart because they are there.

I really can't say too much more about this novella as i will give it away but you will find a world and characters that are so unique that you won't be able to stop soaking this tale up and craving for more of this authors work!

First thing after reading - so short but full as long book. Sometimes short stories lack depth but this one of course not ( this Is my second short story from Laxmi and it's also brilliant).
The story is described by thoughts of Leana, as well her origin, how she felt. This gave the book a package of very strong emotions.

Her story wasn't easy, but as teenage girl she try to do something do she won't be blamed for what had happened (all i can say Is that people can destroy you for something from not even from your past). Here we also meet for the first time vampires. Some events are very brutal, but it is unfortunately the way Leana has to go through.
One moment almost made me cry, i wanted to shout - this means a lot when you think - is this author worth reading? YES!
Emotions, this book Is based on them (very strong, but not overwhelming).

And the last thing, acceptance Is something we can learn or rather just try to understand on the example of main character ;)

In one word: super.

A lot of story for such a tiny package. I was pleasantly surprised by how well developed both the plot and characters are for how quick a read it is. It nicely answers the main questions while leaving some strands that can be later turned into stories of their own. I received a complimentary copy of the book.
Since reading it the first time, I've had the chance to read the revised, expanded edition. The original was good, and the bones of it are still in there, but the new edition is even better. Offering a fuller picture of what has made Leanna who she is and why she's returned to Bombay, making for an even more emotional connection to the story.

Honestly, I avoid reading paranormal stories because I get to read enough of those on wattpad. But I gave this one a chance. [This my first book from the author.]

The story takes places while Leana is on her way to meet the Hugging Saint. I won't exactly call it a story. It's more like scenes described in 30 pages. It was easy to follow even though I haven't read any other Many Lives books.

Her writing is refined and detailed. I didn't get that formal writing feeling I usually do while reading books by Indian authors.

Overall, I liked the story. The best part being a dystopian setting in Bombay.

Possible spoilers. I have read a couple of other books by this author and this one just didn't live up to the others. I didn't connect to the character as well. I have questions that remain unanswered. Also, while the others were very sensual and borders on sexual, they never crossed that line. This one the characters actually had sex. While it wasn't very detailed, it was there. And there was no relationship developed. I don't understand who he was, why they were attracted to each other, why or even if there was love. It just wasn't at all complete and I didn't like it.

I received this book free for an honest review and I really enjoyed it. It was a novella so it was an easy and short read that you can finish in a matter of hours. In this novella you meet Maya and Luke’s daughter Leana Iyeroy who has inherited her grandmother Ruby Iyer’s sword. You learn more about Ruby in some of the previous books in the series. This book is more of a journey for the character than some of the other books in the series have been. This book is about Leana a hybrid-shifter finding out who she is and where she belongs. This book leaves you wanting more. I can’t wait to read the rest of her story.

As the stories progress we now learn of the origin of Leanna. Once again we meet a strong woman in Ruby's blood line. We get some answers and completion to some open issues and get to meet and find out about who she is. As she comes to term with who she is we see not only an acceptance but a peace and growth. Awesome book. I love the characters and how it doesn't drag but develops. Love that we get real glimpse into the characters which bring them to life. Patiently impatiently awaiting the next book.

This is an interesting story of a woman trying to find her way and wanting to resolve the past. She is a wolf shifter and wants to have a normal life. It leads her to Bombay and a new mission. It definitely ends with a lot left unresolved. I enjoyed the story.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

Although this is a coming of age story by a werewolf, what struck me about the story was her emotions, well-hidden but there. In fact the characterisation of this girl scared me a bit, her sense of loss and her feelings of resentment so vivid. A great read.
