And it's done!!

So swiftly!

Note Down - "It was an entertaining book!!"

Well, the blue black cover didn't give anything at all which increases the adventure with this one even more.

As soon as I read the blurb, I was certain of something - that was- It is going to be a quick read.

On a fine morning,Viraj receives a call from an unknown number. He is abused by the caller. Surprised as to why it is happening with him, he cuts the call. And as you might be expecting, fate had some scripts already written down for him.

Next time, he gets the call from the same number to find out that that person having a treatment at a hospital. Curiosity makes him rush to the place as soon as possible.

What he didn't know was that this small incident would alter his surrounding upside - down and inside - out! So much that that strikes you quite unexpectedly.

A cute little book!
Next time before a train ride, ff you see this book on stores in airport or railway stations, you can try this one out.

A page turner, indeed.

A knotty affair by Dhaval Birajdar Jinadatt, an novel of different view in love and unnoticed social problem. Its been well written that everybody can understand the story easily. Its gives voice to the issue of delay in judgement at Indian courts.

The story is generally about the middle class born chap Viraj, who has stammering problem and mocked by his fellow students in colleges, how he has recovered and getting his love of life is one part.

In meanwhile his father a professor who has been arrested for getting bribe but what is the truth? It makes that family a suffers is the reality it describes that well and too the fact his father died in depression in the meanwhile judgment have been out after 14years of case filed.

As the initiative he starts an NGO and life starts smooth but did he overcomes the stammering problem and got his love back will the good reason to read the novel further :)

Interesting narrative and easily understandable vocabularies made the read more easier. Yeah the cover and title is quite unrelated till the end but that's not mattered before a good story, I think.

Overall the "A knotty Affairs" been a genuine interesting read and My rating is 4/5.

Don’t run after love, don’t plead, if it is yours, it will come to you, when time is right. Be patient, time has planned all the right things for you on the right time.

Viraj Sargaokar born in a middle class family that lives in the suburbs of Mumbai city. Viraj world encircle around his mother, his only friend, who understands him and only one in front of; Viraj does not stammer. His father is a physics professor in the same college; he had joined for his junior college. His stammering made him the joke of the class and left him alone. Ruhi is his class mate and practical lab partner also. He companied her to her station and helped her in her practicals. He infatuated to ruhi but never gathered the courage to confess until farewell when Ruhi asked him to be her partner and used him to jealous her boyfriend. Life changes drastically for Viraj when his honest father is accused of bribery and arrested.

Viraj and Ruhi met again after fourteen years unwittingly that brings Viraj’s life upside down.

It is a story of a boy and his struggle for his own insecurities of not accepted by the people. It is a fight against the system and its ominous use which pronounced his father’s honest service to the college; baleful. The plot of the story is good but the execution has lot of scope for improvement.

Three stars to “A Knotty Affair” by Dhaval Birajdar Jinadatt. Thanks to Nishant Joshi for providing a review copy.

It is a story of Viraj Sargaokar (Gao to his friends though not many are there). He has low self-confidence due to his stammer. He is from a traditional middle class family and when he enters a college who has affluent family kids, he feels left out. He develops an inferiority complex. One of his classmates is Ruhi who is very beautiful and outgoing. He has secret crush on her but could not express his feelings. Meanwhile his father, who is also teaching in the same college, is alleged of corrupt practices and expelled from college. This incident has huge impact on him and his family. After many years he is working as software engineer in a big company. Fate again brings Ruhi in his life but she doesn’t recognize him. They develop a bond of friendship. At the same time he keeps fighting to prove innocence of his father who is now dead. What happens next forms the story.

I liked the book very much. It flows smoothly. There are not many characters and Viraj and Ruhi are the only main characters. This is basically the story of Viraj, a stammering boy who metamorphose into a smart, successful person through sheer will and hard work. His story is very inspiring to all. Ruhi character also develops from a stupid teenage girl, who has crushes on wrong boys, to a successful actress. There love story develops gradually and naturally. Viraj considers himself not worthy of her but still keep doing everything he can for her. Maybe he feels one day she will reciprocate his feelings. Viraj mother is very mature and supportive of him throughout. She understands his aspirations, weaknesses and insecurities. She is always encouraging him to get better. It is only because his support he comes out on top.

Viraj finally gets justice for his father after long wasted years with the help of lawyer Mr Solanki. He then vows to start a NGO for people who are not getting justice after much delay. This is a true commentary on our judicial system. As someone rightly said “JUSTICE DELAYED IS JUSTICE DENIED”. It is indeed a good idea for a NGO.

On flip side the narrative is very flat and straightforward. There in no conflict in the story or characters. The story simply starts at point A and finishes at point B. It seems too much calculated and sometimes boring. It has a sense of Deje-vu.

To sum up it is a very good book. Also the size of book is very nice and it makes book very handy. Printing and typesetting is very cool on eyes.

This story is about a software engineer, Viraj, in his thirties. Good job. Good pay. Lovely mother to take care of him. One day he meets up a girl from his past - Ruhi. From there we go 14 years backwards.
Young Viraj is very low in self-esteem. He has a stammering problem to add fuel to fire. His father, a strict Physics professor (assistant), joins him in the same college he works for. Innocent, shy, stammering young boy in a modern college. No need to say about the ragging and harassment he might go through. Amidst all this, one girl helps him to go through all this - Ruhi. Towards end of college life, Viraj falls for Ruhi who is no where in comparison with Viraj. With time and events, they move away from each other. Meanwhile Viraj's dad got framed in a case which ends his career and screws the life of whole family.
What happened to that case? What happens between Viraj and Ruhi after 14 years gap? This is the remaining story :)

What I loved in this book :
Book cover:
Two faces of most probably same guy facing opposite directions. One face is thick whereas other is light. This resembles the character of protagonist. Viraj is like two different persons in 14 years gap. Changed physically, mentally, verbally. Young Viraj is so opposite to current Viraj.
There is a region where both faces intersects. So there's a common space for both faces. Same holds true for Viraj. Though he changed lot in 14 years, he still have few things unchanged.
Courtroom drama:
I haven't seen an Indian author of current generation writing courtroom drama. Kudos to Dhaval for the attempt. This might mark the beginning of many more to come!
Storyline:
In general, Indian father-son relationship is bit different compared to rest of the world. Dad seems strict and son seems to hate dad a lot. But the love and bond they share is eternal. This book showcases the same. Because of his love towards father, Viraj fights a 14 years case!
The Courtroom and NGO chapters of the story displayed the state of current Indian judiciary system , things that needs to be changed and an idea that can be done implemented :)

What I hated in this book :
Courtroom drama:
This the major plus of this book. So I expected it to be in big level. Though the courtroom scenes are good for initial attempt, they could have been made better. Some little tweaks would have developed it more interesting.
More focus should have been given to this. Instead author decided to focus on many things and kept this for just one chapter. Not amused!
Errors:
I don't know what went wrong or how it happened, but I came across multiple spelling errors and punctuation errors. It would have been better if more attention was given to that :)
Characterization:
For any book, characters make the story better. In this one, that is major thing that felt odd for me. The life of a software engineer was somehow I am not able to relate at all! I am software engineer by profession and I have LOT of software friends & acquaintances. Still I am not able to relate with that character (Viraj).
In any story, if you are a guy, you should like the female lead in romance genre(according to me). In some stories, you will love her. In some, you will like her. In this, I didn't love her or like her!
You should be able to understand why the male lead falls for her. In this story, I didn't find any reason other than the fact that Ruhi spoke to Viraj when nobody else did (she did it only for her own reasons which are selfish as hell) and she is hot. Not cool !
There is too much dilemma in and around Viraj that at some point I started wondering whether Viraj is in dilemma or the author was !!

A good new attempt which could have made better :)
Hoping that Dhaval will reduce the impact of movies in his upcoming stories.
Also hoping that the next book from him would be new in concept like this and better in presentation than this!

Bit Different story from common theme... 2.5/5.0

Good to get some different story from one Indian writer though the theme remained same as that of college love and all.
I enjoyed the story and its moreover a one-shot-read. Story revolves around one boy who stammers and was below average in regard of confident, social gatherings and looks.
How with time situations changed in his life? and he overcome the hurdle was the main part of the plot. The best thing I liked about the book is that there was no such feeling of out-of-the-world for protagonists; like, either of the couple were not been shown so hyped in their category of statuses shown which make every sort of reader to connect with the plot.
Involving the family improved the story-line to one more level upside.

However, there are some editorial and grammatical mistakes. But still its enjoyable. Hope to get some more different and realistic read from the Author in coming time.

Note: I get this book from author for honest reviews in exchange.

First of all a huge thanks to the author and his team especially Akshat Solanki for providing me with a copy of the book and an opportunity to get acquainted with the author's work

Even before i had fully taken in the name and the premise of the book, i was already half way through the book. The book was that fast paced but to me personally it was a good thing as not only did the story move quickly and not requiring you to invest so much emotions and pain into it, but the book also started and took the readers through a whole lot of events and scenarios of life and not hovering on it too much

The author takes you through the entire life journey of the central character so quick that at some point you wish that there was little more depth but i personally loved the pace because you can see the events happening and concluding quickly and not having to wait for things to roll out.

Yes maybe a little more depth would have been good for the book in general scheme but i guess that is upto everybody's personal perception. Fortunately the book doesn't ride on just a boy meets girl storyline and has another track that has been catered too parallel and with equal importance so i would say that makes it for one of its good point.

The book is really light and quick. In fact you wouldn't even realise that you have completed the book in mere short period, when you start reading it and i am not sure which should shoulder its credit, the fast paced narration or the to-the point story line

As much as i loved the pace, i feel it could also be a weakness for the book because some way wish for a little more depth and investment to each story development but personally i loved the quick pace.

The best part of the book was the character development.

Ruhi and Viraj are the focus of the book, however, there are other characters who associate themselves with the story and are developed well along the path.

During development, I did find that Viraj is an idiot. Characterizations such as these are what leads to women assuming men to be emotionally weak and desperate to find love. There are situations when Viraj does make himself strong, like the court scenarios. I feel good when I read the subtle strength of the character brought out in a way that the reader can take an example from.
The editing was very poor as the story is narrated in the same way that a conversation occurs. That is rather irritating when you want to enjoy the story but end up finding mistakes on each and every page. That was a major hindrance while reading. That is also an avenue where newer editions can be developed and rectified.

Just another read that can be conveniently remade to an average Bollywood movie, with not many takers!!! Too many vocabulary mistakes & very poor English... I don't think the author proof-read it before publishing. It is indeed very disappointing.

'A Knotty Affair’  is the story of Viraj Sargaokar, a software engineer, whose soul is burdened with his past. It is the story of a fight for justice, a fight against inferiority and a fight for love.

*The Affair

Our protagonist is a 31 year old successful guy, who has everything except a life partner & his father, who died seeking justice. We get a glimpse of Viraj’s college days, when he had zero confidence and stammered while speaking.

Viraj finds it difficult to endure in a college where boys are called dudes & he doesn’t even know the meaning of dude. Nobody is interested in talking to him. His only friend in the college is his partner in Practicals, Ruhi. He finds himself drawn towards Ruhi but has to face a heartbreak in the end.

Viraj’s father is professor in the same college. His life turns upside down when his innocent father is accused of bribery. Now the only motive that Viraj has is to prove the innocence of his father.

Then we are brought back to present & we witness how Viraj ultimately succeeds not only in getting justice but also the love of his life. It is, thus, a story of Viraj’s transformation. As the novel proceeds, Viraj emerges as a confident & independent person.

*My Verdict

The story of the novel is a sweet one. It is amusing but certainly not impressing. It seems the author wanted to keep the Court Room Drama in the centre of the novel. The book is divided in 7 parts & each part is called a Defence (as given by a Lawyer in the court). The structure of the novel doesn’t match with the plot. There’s very less of court room Drama. It is Viraj’s love story that takes the centre stage. The novel ends with completion of his love story.

The novel is written in a simple & lucid manner. The story is also very plain & lacks any kind of depth or complexity. Despite the simple story, I was not bored while reading it. It is the writing style that keeps one engaged.

I finished the book in 3 sittings. One can easily finish it in one sitting. It is actually of the size of a novella. One thing that I hated about this book is that it had many grammatical mistakes. The author should have proofread it.

The novel can be pleasant for some readers. Even I found it pleasant. It is fine for a one time read or to kill time.

My Rating: *** (2.5/5)

The story is all about Viraj Sargaokar and his life, starting from college to his work life what all he does is this story all about. When I started reading it I felt i was reading ugly duckling turned into handsome duck. He meeting/ finding the love of his life. His dad has a case on him. What all drama is going Viraj's life is the story all about.

The best part of the books was it was flowing, there weren't many places that you could say Wow but there wasn't any down part either. It was just going and going on.

The negatives about the book i can say is there are no high points n the book and I was not able to understand the connection between the title and the story.

But I have enjoyed reading it...

About Author: Dhaval Birajdar Jinadatt completed his master's in Mechanical Engineering and is currently working as Assistant Professor in a reputed college in Mumbai. He has already published a novel named "366 days" and this is his second work.

I have received free copy of this book from Cyclopes Literary Services in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

A Knotty Affair - As the name suggests it is not about an affair between a boy and a girl. Instead it is talking about the affairs in one’s life and how it shapes the future.

Book Cover: The book cover and the title are mesmerizing. Book title is attractive. Blurb is short and clears all the confusion about the story.

I liked the book very much. It flows smoothly. Viraj and Ruhi are the two main characters. The story revolves basically around the stammer boy Viraj. Viraj is a simple family loving, caring and sincere boy. He is an introvert character. He is too attached to his mother, as she understands his desires, weaknesses and hesitations without his saying. She always motivates him to get better. Only because of his mother’s support he comes out on the top. It is a simple love cum family story.

The language used is lucid and easy to connect and straightforward so it is a pleasure to read. I completed the book in one sitting.

Ruhi the second main character of the story who leaves Viraj in a college alone, but he loved and cared her with true heart. She is one the most beautiful girl in his college but she rejected his love and left him all alone. The story takes a turn when Ruhi comes in his life; the destiny brought her back again to him after 14 years. But she did not recognize him.

I loved the most, like he used to express his feelings to Ruhi by writing in a notebook and helping her to achieve her dream even after knowing that one fine day she might leave him.

Ruhi’s character could have been elaborated. There are few grammatical errors, which can be taken care by.

A Knotty Affair - as the name suggests (or one might assume) is not about an affair between a boy and a girl. Instead it is talking about the affairs in ones life and how it shapes the future. The cover art is also very different - I would love to understand the significance from the author.
Talking about story, it revolves around Viraj, who has been struggling his whole life due to stammering issues. The whole story is about how he copes up with various situations in his life and how the relationships in his life shape him into the person he eventually becomes.

The book is divided into various sections of his life. Author has called them 'defense' not sure why but they are well split. Honestly the blurb doesn't do justice to the story line, his college life is only a small part of the story, rest all revolves around his later years. Which are rather interesting. I liked his involvement with Ruhi and how unexpected twists in life gives him what he desires most.

The characters in the book are partially well narrated. The character of Viraj is very well developed however for others it could be better. Especially for Ruhi, she is the second most important character but her initial narration doesn't do justice.

The writing style is very simple and at times you might feel that it is a little too ordinary, but everyone has their own ways of writing and I respect that.

Talking about cons, to start with there are a few (not many) grammatical errors.
There is some part of court case in the book (as mentioned in the blurb, Viraj tries to prove his father's innocence). Having judiciary people in my family I know how wrong certain aspects were depicted. So that was a down-side for me. However, given it is a fiction book, anything is possible and we cant complain.
Another downside for me was the end of the book. It is a happy ending but I found it bit abrupt. Happens with most of us but I would have preferred to have a much smoother end.

Overall, I liked the story and while reading it I didn't feel bored at all. Some parts were rather predictable but one can't help guessing what will come next.
My rating to the book - 3.5/5 and if you are in need of a quick read, you can buy it from here.

Something About Author : Dhaval Birajdar Jinadatt completed his master's in Mechanical Engineering and is currently working as Assistant Professor in a reputed college in Mumbai. He has already published a novel named "366 days" and this is his second work.

Book Review : A Knotty Affair is a story about a thirty-year-old Software Engineer, Viraj Sargaokar. It's not a typical love story. It's more of family cum love story. He is a simple boy who loves his family and cares for his mom and dad. But his life changes drastically when his honest father gets accused of bribery and arrested but it takes 14 years to get a result from so called Justice Delivery System of India. During this toughest phase of his life he also lost his father, but he kept on fighting the case for his Dad's honor and finally earn his prestige back.

During his junior college days Viraj falls head over heels for his classmate Ruhi, who's one the most beautiful girls in his college. But she didn't accept his love and she also left him all alone, but destiny brought her back again to him after 14 years.

Writing style and the language used is quite simple and easy to understand. Certain things I loved the most like expressing his feelings to a girl by writing in a notebook and in a letter, and helping her to achieve her dream even after knowing that one fine day she may leave him.

Overall a simple, cute, and innocent Love Story with a happy ending. Worth reading.

Viraj Sargaokar, a man dedicated to his work and family receives a call and his whole past flashes before his eyes in form of Ruhi.
The same girl who had rejected him 14 years ago but doesn't even recognize him in the present.
But Ruhi wasn't the only unfortunate memory of his past, his father, his personality, his failure at being able to communicate with everyone and in the end, his stammering.
His father, an honest man was splashed with the mud of dishonesty and Viraj is hell bent on removing those dark memories off his father's life.
Will he suceed? Will he be united with Ruhi?
The book starts with a present day Viraj narrating his life 14 years ago after his encounter with Ruhi.
Ratings- 1 out of 5 star.
The narration, presentation and method of writing needs real time improvement and work.
The editing has been a faulty job and the author should consider rewriting the book for a second batch of printing.
The language used is quite amateur and needs improvement as well.
The plot has the capability to be good when well-writte.
The number of loopholes in the plot are quite considerate and the execution is faulty as well.
The book needs a lot many number of improvements and it will be appreciated if the author considers it.

This is really fast moving book , you can read in one sitting,

Love is a part of this book , Mostly its covers how slow our judiciary system he topic which is really a major issue but majorly ignored issue as well. how hero suffers because of it.
Viraj got a call from a wrong number that wrong number has turned his life,

The Narrator of this book is viraj a reserved guy , not so good looking and also stammers. who falls in love with a girl during college times and gets rejected badly, at the same time , his father will be arrested.. what happens to his father and his job, why he is arrested ,does the case resolve? Does he able to get back his first love ?Who is the wrong call girl ? how she changes his life ? how it becomes knotty affair ?

Author explains very well how slow our judiciary system is, and how many people suffer from it.
And what we can do for that. Corruption plays a main part in our whole system ,which makes everything slow and non affordable. I liked the ending..

This book is a testament to the relationships and growing up in a middle-class family that is been there with Indian youth for a long time.
The author has beautifully portrayed this story and the narration seems to be a fast pacing and keeps you hooked until the end.
This story revolves around Viraj, his life, his relationship, his family and struggle he undergoes that is very significant when you read the book.
The author has managed to write this in a better manner that takes a reader to his narrative world and gives you a pleasure of his writing and reading through words used.
This book can be tagged as a soft lightening reading, and it's worth your time.

A Knotty Affair, a novel by Dhaval Birajdar Jinadatt, is published by Leadstart Publishing Private Limited. The cover at first glance fails to appeal to general readers. However, if you look deeper, it symbolises an affair of sky and sea—the two extremes. The light blue of sky merging in the deep blue of the sea; indeed a thought provoking concept! The style of writing is simple, lucid and clear but too much clarity makes it absurd and boring. The language could have been better though the flashback technique is flawless. The book is short though it has 228 pages but the short pages makes it easy and one can complete the book in one day only. The editing and proof reading needs attention. The plot construction had some loopholes in it. One question remains unanswered as Who was behind the bribery case?

An average plot with nothing to crave about.Signs of a novice author all throughout this piece of work.Hope the Author spends more time on proof-reading. Grammatical errors and wrong punctuations a huge turn-off for any reader. An absolute harakiri by the proof-reader. I went through the pain of finishing the book just to see how many errors I can spot.In the last count it stood at 22. That's unpardonable. Hope the author of this 'Novel' takes the review in the right stride. Happy Reading !!!!

This book has some plain white strings of words that send some very powerful messages at the same time , once you look for them.

The novel revolves around a middle class boy who has social anxiety majorly because of his physical appearance and his stammering problem. The threads turn and twist to yearn a story which ultimately leads to the protagonist leading a contented life with everything falling in the right places.

The book kick-starts with the protagonist Viraj's happy-to-go settled life where he has a new job in hand and while his mother constantly bugs him for getting married, he doesn't seem to be disturbed by it as is seen throughout the book via his special relationship with his mother which he tried to generalize with every son but seems somewhat between him and his mother specifically.
The story's pace increases when Viraj gets a call from an unknown number and the speaker constantly abuses him and cuts off the call before disclosing her identity. After this happening repeated times , the protagonist tries and threatens the speaker during one call , he gets to know the dialler had met with an accident and his number along with an another one is the only number saved, he rushes to save her. He pays for the treatment and leaves without meeting the girl. A few days later the girl expressed gratitude and asked to return money over a meeting in CCD(whose full form Viraj did not know about which shows the level of social life the protagonist had). On the day of the meeting, Viraj on seeing the girl runs out of the place as she proved to be an old acquaintance with whom Viraj was not at good terms with.
The story then takes us in flashback where it comes into highlight that the girl is Ria who was a classmate of Viraj and Viraj having fallen in love with her did take some stupid steps to get her which alas! made them apart. Not only this but during his college time his father was accused of having taken money as bribe and had a case charged on him. His father who was the professor in the same college where Viraj was studying , was fired by the college authorities after the police charge which leveled up Viraj's anxiety making him see a psychiatrist and also further caused his dad to undergo depression leading to his death after eight years.
Back to the present, Viraj draws up courage to address Ria and asks to meet her at the same place. To his astonishment Ria doesn't recognise him and he takes advantage of this fact by not telling her his identity at the very time and by asking her further details of her life so far. He further gets to know her better on subsequent meetings that she is an aspiring actress and so Viraj gets them both enrolled in an acting workshop. There the friendship grew stronger and eventually one day on the pretext of acting a particular scene , Viraj delivers his supressed heart's feelings towards Ria causing things in between them to be awkward and Ria not talking to him for a while. Alongside this, the court hearings take place where Viraj is on the end of losing his case because of lack of evidence. Things start to fall back in place when Ria asks Viraj to accompany her for an audition and she herself starts getting back to normal. Further while leaving at the airport, feelings from her side also seemed pretty evident towards Viraj. But at this point Viraj had decided to tell Ria her true idenity and left the rest on his destiny and the power of true love. Meanwhile having collected some evidences and preparing a witness , Viraj manages to win the case. He manages to bring back long lost justice and also the father's dignity back. He even decided to open an NGO for people like them who could not afford a lawyer either or are tangled in this long procedures of court hearing. Moreover even Ria after coming back from the shoot had decided to accept Viraj despite the harsh past.
Thus the story had an happy ending where nonetheless strong messages were delivered. Some nuances being,
-The very importance of having patience and waiting for the right time to let things fall in place.
-A very strong message of how this judicial system is at flaw and how despite this, at an individual level initiatve can be taken to address this.
-the mother-son relationship portrays a picture of how a relationship is to be maintained if not already and how much importance these relationships hold in our lives, where a mother is a face reader, an initution sensor, taunts in lovely manner and even though bound in traditional dilemmas understands the son's very mindset. ON the same side, the father- son relationship was portrayed as that seen in a normal middle class family which could be seen when his father asks him to wear formal clothes because he is a professor's son.

The story is written a plain simple english which makes it readable by all age groups. Though it is good that the stpry was crisp and to the point but the lack of further explanations of intrinsic emotions felt at certain places, the charm and connect with the character is lost at times. In addition to this, at places publishing errors could be seen which hinders when reading at a constant pace but which i feel would be rectified if taken into consideration by the author.

One of the best lines i found in the book being " The best relation any man or woman can have is with time.".

Lastly, thanks to the author and his team to provide me this book and kudos to you people.

Some stories make you cry, while others make you smile. Some leave you amazed, while others leave you wondering. This story makes you experience it all. There are tears, there are failures, there is love, there is maternal affection and at the end, the story leaves you with a smile.

A Knotty Affair is the story of Viraj and his struggles. His struggles start early on due to his weight and stammer. He tries to fit in and adapt with other classmates, but is ridiculed and laughed at all the time. Left with no friends, his only solace is his mother and her unflinching love and confidence in him. He joins college where his father teaches, strikes friendship with the beautiful and understanding Ruhi and falls in love. However, this little euphoria in his otherwise mundane life is short-lived when he realizes that it's a one sided relation which will not be reciprocated.

A conspiracy shatters the small and cozy family. As they struggle to wade through it, a tragedy seems like the end of everything. Yet, they survive and thereafter starts Viraj's journey of countering his weaknesses and turning a new leaf in his life. He begins his life afresh but a strange turn of events make him stand face-to-face with Ruhi, and thus restarts the chapter of his life he thought was left far behind and forgotten.

A Knotty Affair manifests human emotions beautifully. On one hand, there is a mother who stands by her son, no matter what, and there is a father who loves and wants the best for his child, but is unable to express it in words. Then, there is friendship and then love and commitment and the joy of seeing happiness in the eyes of those you love. This is what makes this story a true winner.

The characters are well-sketched and the background makes them feel like they are people who live next door, those we see in and around every day, but are oblivious to their daily struggles. There is a sense of realism that pervades all through the story and that is precisely this novel's strength. Despite displaying and manifesting so many human emotions, the story is light and breezy. And that's its beauty.

A beautiful tale narrated equally well, this can well be in your next read in your list of something light yet very meaningful.

Viraj is a guy who has no idea of what he wants to do with his academic career, ends up becoming his father’s student at K B College of Science and Commerce, Churchgate, Mumbai. Being shy and introvert, he finds himself in a fix in mixing with people. Struggling through serious low esteem and self confidence, he finds himself falling for his beautiful lab partner and to top to all his worries, he can’t disclose he is the son of Prof. Sargaokar.

Amidst all this emotional and psychological turmoil, his father is framed for taking bribe and his suspended from his college duties. Life becomes nothing less than living hell. Soon, his father passes away suffering from depression for a long time. College comes to an end and after securing himself financially fights for justice and after 14 long years, he finally gets justice for his father and eventually wins the love of his life, Ruhi. This is ‘ A Knotty Affair’ by Dhaval Brijdar Jinadatt.

Story is simple, focuses on the hassles of a middle class Mumbaikar family until the fateful event upturns their lives. There’s not just one story, but many. 1- the story of younger Viraj and the problems he faces and the sweet advent of love crawling into his life, 2- the unfortunate turn of events, 3- transformation of Viraj and his fight for his father’s justice and 4- long lost love coming back to him. There are some cute moments, you can feel the innocence of the characters and also the nagging of an Indian mom; things where you can relate with yourself. Though A Knotty Affair lacked some knots, overall, the story is good, it could have been more polished into something more better; some parts of the story like the legal proceedings and the love story could have been elaborated. And also a few twists and turns could have added a little more spice into the story. But nevertheless, language is simple, comprehensible; plot of the story is understandable.

Dhaval sir, keep up the good work!

I finished reading this book in under 2 hours.Very plain & simple language was used which seemed very ordinary and not very intelligent. The writing style is ineffective. The book title doesn't match with the story.Sorry to be so brutally honest.

The story is about Viraj and his self-confidence issues in his teenage years due to his stammering problem, weight, braces and his looks. What keeps him motivated to do better in life is his love for ruhi(college crush) and his supportive, understanding & friendly mom and the injustice done to his dad.He works upon himself, reduces weight through yoga, calms himself through mediation, overcomes his stammer problem significantly through help and wins his love.A 30 year old introvert who lives with his mom and his world revolves around his office, mom and ruhi and he has zero friends. In the story , It is not mentioned why his dad was framed in the bribery case as he was shown as a good & rightful person well respected by his colleagues.Justice delayed is justice denied but even after winning the case Viraj doesn't stop there and starts an NGO to help other people who have been wrongfully convicted.

There are two things I like about the story. One is how a simple middle class boy battles his stammer issues, develops his personality with hard work and determination and the thing he wished for the most, occupied and absorbed his mind so much that It became his by default.(Ruhi's love). And the second thing is how Viraj doesn't care that his crush was in relationships before(he stayed single throughout thinking about her), does intimate scenes in her acting career and that doesn't change his love for her and he stands by her no matter what because in his mind, she is truly his.

This books tells you that "If you work hard enough, you can achieve everything."The protagonist gets a good career, lover and justice for his father though late and so he wins at life.
