Twintuition: Double Trouble
Liam explains to Caitlyn that the “Birthday Paradox” is when if you get twenty three people in a room atleast two of them will share the same birthday. This leads him, Caitlym, and Birance to talk of the twins 12th birtrhday coming up. The twins usually have something together but haven’t talked about it yet. When the twins dad is mentiond, Caitlyn says he died. There’s not really much else she can say because her mom doesn’t talk about him. All they know is his name is John Thomas and he’s white. Bianca noticeably looks sad for some reason. Some suggestions for the party are a Monster theme, an insect cookout, and miniture golf.

Mrs. Xavier stops Caitlyn and asks if she’s started her social studies project and then suggests maybe she can do her project on famous twins and if being a twin was part of their success. She digs deeper and says maybe she should explore also if they have special powers. Little does she know the twins can see the future. She says she’s cool with her and Cassie working together. Meanwhile, Cassie’s friends want to have a big over the top party with boys and a dj, at a nice hotel (ballroom). On th way home, Cassie mentions it to Caitlyn but it’s just not her thing. She says they’ll talk about and Cassie is hopeful that they can compromise. Their mother seems to have a different idea all together. She just wants the three of them to have a nice dinner. She starts to get emotional that they’re growing up so fast and then Caitlyn has a vision. We don’t get to know what it is tho because the doorbell rings and there’s a package. One Cassie recognizes.

Caityln sees the package and remembers the vision she and Cassie had of them holding this package. The stamps are from all over the world. Inside the book is a leather bound book, a letter, and a pendant (key shaped). The letter is from their grandmother (who hasn’t seen them since after there birth). She was told to stay away from them and she honored their mother’s wishes, but she knows at least one of them have received “the sight” and the book will answer any questions they have. But their mother comes into the room and takes the book and the letter. (Not noticing the pendant). Caitlyn says she has a vision of her mom with a white guy that looked like the photo they saw of their dad. There was a Christmas tree also in the background.

During study hall, Cassie tells Megan the “normal” parts of why she’s been so distracted. When she touches Magan’s hand she gets a vision of her playing with a puppy by her father’s store. When she catches up with Caitlyn and tells her about it, Caitlyn thinks it’s a good thing. What could possibly be bad about Magan playing with a puppy? UMM. YEEAH?! It can BITE YOU! After Caitlyn goes to catch up with her friends, Cassie notices Gabe standing there and wanders if he overheard them, but then she just brushes it off and joins her own friends. Gabe bumps into Caitlyn and her friends in the lunchroom and calls her a “super freak”.

Mrs. Xavier approach’s Caitlyn again about her idea. Caitlyn tells her she’ll get back with her, but after she leaves tells her friends no way she’s doing it. Liam tells her about how eccentric she is and some of her other ideas (which include crystals, aromatherapy, and voduu). She *is* from New Orleans. She invites Liam and Bianca over to help with the party plans. Bianca says she’ll let her know (not giving an explanation). Caitlyn wonders what’s up with her. Later in bed, they talk about how their mom has been avoiding them. Cassie tells Caitlyn she thinks Gabe overheard them talking. They decide they have to get the letter back. They both think on something. Maybe it’s not that she doesn’t want them to know about their powers. Maybe she just doesn’t want them to know about their dad. Cassie isn’t happy that her friends won’t be the only ones coming over to plan the party. Caitlyn tells her to get over it.

Cassie waste no time searching the house after her mother leaves one day for work, but doesn’t find anything. Caitlyn points out to her that the book and the letter are probably at her job. Their friends come over. Magan is cool and nice to Liam and Bianca. Lavemder isn’t. They all start to argue about the party ideas. Bianca excuses herself and as she does her arm brush’s Cassie and she has a vision of her outside a hospital. Cassie tells Caitlyn about the vision and when they get back inside Lavender decides that the twins party will be a pool party and it’ll be at Magan’s house.

Cassie and Cait’s mom surprise them by wanting to go to the mall. Something she NEVER wants to do because of crowds. When they get there, Cassie wants to head right to the party store. Only she hasn’t told her mom about the party and when she does her mom says she told them they weren’t having one. She says instead she can take them back to San Antonio and they can have a nice dinner. She’s stuck on the dinner idea. Cassie says no. She wants the party and they get into an argument. Gabe shows up out of nowhere with his cousin Thad and describes running into them

“supernatural”. After he leaves, the argument continues only it switches to her taking their package. She says she returned it. Then she again puts off the subject of their father. She tries to placate them tho by saying she’ll talk to Magan’s mother and they can have the party. Cassie tries to talk to Caitlyn later but she’s short with her so she thinks screw it.

The next day at school, Caitlyn feels bad about it tho. She doesn’t agree with the way Cassie handled the fight with their mom. Now she’ll never tell them anything. Liam and Biranca are talking about getting their invitations when Caitlyn notices Gabe looking at them with an odd expression on his face. Caitlyn wonders if he’s feeling bad about not getting an invite. Bianca notices Caitlyn’s pendant. When she asks to see it, she has a vision of Bianca sitting in a waiting room crying. The vision is 10x as strong as it normally is. Caitlyn is surprised that she can now see bad things as well as good. Gabe is still watching Caitlyn with a shaky smile.

The twins make up and agree to stop fighting. Cassie apologizes and says she’ll even let her help plan the party and she’ll be nice to her friends. Cassie and Caitlyn compare their visions about Bianca. IT seems like someone she cares about will end up in the hospital. Caitlyn says they have to try to stop it and she thinks it will happen soon. They both agree tho that the visions have been gradual. Then they realize when the visions were the strongest they were wearing the pendant. Neither of them need this so they agree to keep the pendant locked away in Cassie’s jewelry box.
While debating whether they should have a band, a DJ, or just play songs off their playlist, (DJ wins out) Cassie has a vision of Lavender and all her other friends standing around crying at their party. Cassie realizes they were right. The vision wasn’t as HD. Because there’s ALWAYS “a guy” the one here is Brayden-I knew a Brayden and he was an ass-. He tells Cassie he’ll be at the party and thanks her for the invite. This immediately changes her mind about calling off the party. Later, the twins talk and wonder if because they did’t see each other in the visions they’ll be the victims. Maybe Lavender was crying over Cassie and Caitlyn’s friend was crying over her. They decide to see if they can control the visions but nothing happens.

But then holding the vision they both have a vision of a lady that looks very stern (a white lady). Gray hair in a bun, thin, tall. Different outfits in each vision. The lady is yelling at Caitlin in Cassie’s vision. She’s hugging Cassie in Caitlyn’s vision and she’s smiling. They wonder if it’s their grandmother but dismiss the thought quickly. They try it again but they get nothing on the second try. The next day, the twins decide to try to get more out of Bianca. Only Caitlyn has a vision of Liam all wet and bloody being carried by Braydon and his friends at the party. She tells Cassie and she doesn’t believe it. But this would make sense because Liam is Bianca’s friend. Magan would be upset it happened at her house. But Lavender?

They agree to talk about it that night, but Cassie ditches the talk to go shopping with her friends for the party. There’s a call on the machine from a Lockwood. Caitlyn realizes that was the name of the person she read about on the website that had the same powers of her and Cassie. When she realizes it, and Caitlyn goes to get the number, her mother has already deleted the number. Caitlyn why she did it. Her mom says wrong number. She wants to question her about it but doesn’t have the nerve. Cassie tries to get the number off the phone’s old answering machine but to no avail. It seems the twins have changed their mind because Cassie agrees to wear the necklace that day. Mrs. Xavier again asks Cassie if she’s given her idea any thought. Cassie says Caitlyn wants to do her own thing but she contains to push up, She tells her to try again. Cassie has a vision of the twins standing in front of Mrs, Xavier smiling.

On Friday, (the party being the next day) the twins come up with a plan. Caitlyn won’t let Liam out of her sight and Cassie will keep an eye on the B boys (Braydon and his friends). Bianca is missing in homeroom the next day. Mrs. Xavier overhears Liam talking about the party to Caitlyn and asks if they’ve noticed anything strange this week. Then she brings up the report. Caitlyn wonders if Mrs. Xavier could possibly know something about the sight and the Loockwoods, but thinks no. The best bet is trying to get in contact with her grandmother. Caitlyn is starting to change her mind about having powers (as in maybe not a good thing). Bianca isn’t heard from all day.

At Magan’s house, Megan and Lavender shows them “The Orchid” and the pool. While they’re alone, Mom starts to tell them something but then the B boys show up. Cassie has a vision of her mom looking angrier than she’s ever been. Cassie decides she doesn’t want to wear the pendant and gives it to her sister. (If your curious Brayden’s friends name are Buzz and Brent). Bianca shows up later. She says she’s crying because she’s happy. Her dad had heart surgery but she says he’s going to be ok. Caitlyn tells Cassie who isn’t happy that hers was still the negative vivision. Still, the other vision hasn’t happened and because she’s been talking to Cassie she hasn’t been watching Liam. When the look up he’s with the B boys. They’re doing cannon balls. Liam tries to do one but slips on a towel and bloodies himself up on the concrete. The B Boys pick him up and take him to a lounge chair (and this is what Caitlyn saw).

Cassie realizes what her vision meens with the dog. Lavender’s dog escapes through the gate. A delivery truck is coming up the street. Magan is able to distract him and then Cassie grabs him. She realizes that Magan was behind the other girls because Lavender had probably blamed her for him being hit in the vision. Even though Cassie’s vision was bad, the good thing is now they can change it. Megan tells Cassie, that Gabe was asking all kinds of questions about her birthday but then again he’s always been odd. That night the lady from the vision shows up Verint Lockwood (their grandmother).

RATING: 6 This reminded me a lot of the show “That’s So Raven” but with twins. Particularly with the visions turning out not to be what they thought. What I like about this book is I think that with books like Sweet Valley Twins that focus on a set of twins with blond hair and blue eyes, we get this series (Twintuition) about black twins with dark eyes and hair. This was a light and easy read. I’m interested in what happens next with the grandmother? Will she be helpful and teach the twins more about their powers? Will she give them the book back? Or will she turn out to be something else completely?

The writing was slightly better in this second installment but I felt that not enough happened. The beginning and end was good but the journey to the end was pretty bland. I will continue reading because I’d like to find out the origin of their powers and what it all means. There were two visions that weren’t addressed in this book so I guess they will come to fruition in the 3rd book.

On a positive note, I think the book sends a good message to middle grade children. Cassie and Caitlyn have disagreements and are at an age where they want individualism but at the end of the day they love each other as sisters. Also, bringing the two friend groups together showed that you can get along with people who have different interests.

Loved the continuation of this series. I have to say, it was kind of annoying how Cassie and Caitlyn can’t get along. I mean I know they had their moments and overall they eventually listen to each other, it’s just irritating reading through the disconnect. But boy was the mother pissing me off! I get it that she’s the parent and the twins are only 11-12 years old, but they clearly have questions about who they are, their dad and his side of the family, and all she does is shut them down when they ask questions.

I felt this one wasn’t as intriguing as the first. The ending was a slight let down but it did leave quite the cliffhanger as to what possibly is next to come.

I'm quite aways from the target age group for this book, so take my review with that in mind.
This was a fun book to read, with a little bit of mystery in trying to figure out what the visions that girls get really mean. I like that although they are twins, they are very different in personality and have very different friends. This book puts those two groups together at a birthday party, and in their interactions at the party, the kids find out that they have things in common and can get along. This is a great message for middle-grade readers since middle school is when the cliques start to form and kids stop being friends with kids who aren't in their group.
I know that authors choose how fluffy or serious a book should be and put in the appropriate content. Knowing that Tia and Tamera are mixed race and that the girls who are the main characters in this book as well, I was a bit disappointed that race was never even mentioned in this story. I know that when I have friends of other races that isn't the focus of our friendships, but it does come up in conversations and would certainly be a part of a physical description of that paints the picture of who is part of the story.
Seems to be a book that would appeal to the 10-12 age group.

My favorite part of this story is that Cassie/Cassandra had that vision. It’s about who twin sisters getting a package from their grandma. But when their mom finds out, she takes it away and doesn’t tell Cassie and Caitlyn where she put it. Cassie and Caitlyn are trying to get it back, but their mom wouldn’t let them know anything. But also, their birthdays are coming up (it’s on the same day!) so Cassie and Caitlyn also have to think what kind of theme they should do. I is think it’s the best book.

Cute relationships: sisters and mom. Complex and loving - well done!

One sister is kinda a bully. The dad is/isn’t? Dead? Grandma is good/evil?

This was an okay book. If someone was interested in the TV series itself, they would find this book interesting. Otherwise, interest level is minimal and content is okay.

Solid 4 star read for me. I enjoyed it more than the second book. More action. I loved seeing the adventure the girls went on in this book. Still, there’s something safe and comforting about middle grade. Really looking forward to the last two books in this series!
