When a Sage Gardens resident is found murdered in the resident’s community lounge the four retirees, Samantha, Eddy, Walt and Jo, want to find out what happened.
But when their investigations lead them towards the past they find out that they have two mysteries to solve, not one. They need to untangle a web of lies and deceit to uncover the truth. But their investigations direct them straight towards trouble.
Will they be able to work as a team and get to the truth? Or will their different backgrounds divide them and land them in danger? Will the ‘Sage Gardens Sleuths' be able to solve both the old and new mystery before they become victims themselves?
When a resident of Sage Garden is found in the community room dead, the Sage Garden Sleuth’s immediately go into action to discover who murdered her and why. Come along with these mature investigators while they piece together the why and wherefores of this well plotted mystery. The Sleuth’s are a retired crime journalist, an ex-cat burglar, a retired detective and a retired account. As the investigation continues, the group discovers they have two situations that need to be solved. Plenty of twists and turns to keep the readers attention from the beginning until the final word. This is book # 8 in the Sage Garden series. It can be read as a stand alone.
Death by fire poker. Could the death have something to do with the newspaper that was burning in the fire? Could the brother have killed his own sister for power of attorney? The senior sleuths were on the case and ready to find out.
I liked how Eddy, Jo, Samantha, and Walt—each with their own unique skills—all worked together to find information and follow leads. Could this mystery also have something to do with a past mystery that was headlined in that burned article? The double mystery here definitely lures you in.
Just when you have everything figured out, a bomb goes off. Whoa! Very good!
This is a really good series. The writing style is still very direct. The characters are developing more - both in relationship to each other & individually (and maybe in pairs...raised eyebrows...)
I loved finding the missing thread in this one before the characters did. I usually don't even try - I like the story to unfold - but this time I was in the corner saying "ooo, ooo, over here, I know, I know!!!" (Plot twist similar to A Murder is Announced)
I enjoy reading this series, but this book left me feeling somewhat short. I had the murder figured out from the beginning and I think it's time for Jo to stop saying that she doesn't want to be arrested and she's a criminal. I felt the story was stuffed with too mcuh nonsense and could have been shortened by at least fifty pages. Over all the Sage Gardens Mystery series is a good read.
I downloaded Book No, 1 when it was offered as a free book. By the time I finished reading that book, I was hooked! Samantha, Eddy, Walt and Jo are wonderful characters and it is fun to watch their friendships grow as they solve crimes. I am starting Book No. 9
I figured out the "twist" fairly early on, but the story took forever to get there with lots of unnecessary be stuff along the way. I'm also sort of over Jo's "I'm just a criminal" attitude.
These books are absolutely fantastic and the story's are really well written and enjoyable to read, I would recommend these books to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries.
I got this book and haven't read the previous ones. It was a good cozy mystery with likeable characters, so I'll check out the previous books to better understand how these friends can e together.
Who killed May and why??? It’s a good thing she pulled that article out of the fire!!! The Sage Garden Sleuth will figure things out – signally or together!!! I enjoyed this story and recommend the book.
I really enjoyed this series of stories of suspense and adventure. Cindy Bell has done a wonderful job with the characters in her mysteries, I love them!
This series shows that just because your over 55 years old, it's not to late to make real friends. They are able to do more as a team than as individuals .
What a wonderful set of great characters that were crazy , but so quirky that keep me reading. The storyline had alot of twists and turns that will keep you totally guessing throughout this book till the very last chapter.
I enjoyed reading this book very much. The author has done a very good job of keeping you interested in the characters and the storyline. I would recommend it to anyone.
This started off better than most with the murder within 2 pages. I had a little trouble identifying the cast of characters since this was my first read of this series. I liked it enough to get books 1-4 to better know the series.
