The first book in the Rose Gardner Investigation series, a spinoff of the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today best selling Rose Gardner Mystery series.

Trouble always comes to those who court it. Rose Gardner’s ability to see glimpses of the future has gotten her into hot water time and again, but so have her curiosity and her sense of daring. Those very qualities helped her defeat the most powerful man in Arkansas—a man so adept at hiding his crimes there was no way to defeat him inside of the law—but her success came at a steep personal price. Now she’s throwing herself into her landscaping business, trying to live a life that’s as orderly as one of her gardens.

Rose’s best friend, Neely Kate, is struggling with her own losses, so when she suggests they help a local man find a missing necklace, Rose agrees. It’ll give both of them a welcome distraction, and besides, it’s a simple investigation. What harm could befall them? But things that should be simple rarely are. In seeking out the necklace, Rose and Neely Kate find themselves in the thick of a power struggle in the Fenton County underworld, one that could dethrone Rose’s friend James Malcolm, the surprisingly moral king.

The last thing Rose should do is court more trouble, but she’s not the type to step away from a friend in need—and she’s also not so sure she wants an orderly life.

Are you going to love this new Rose Gardner Investigation series? You bet your sweet patootie you will!

Rose and Neely Kate are besties. They work together at RBW Landscaping, live together on Rose's farm and dabble in solving mysteries.

Raddy Dyer is missing some family jewels - and he suspects his ex-wife has them. He wants Rose and Neely Kate to investigate and see if they can retrieve them back for him and solve this case.
And of course, things are not a simple as it first starts out and they end up needing some help from James and Jed. And as Dr Levi Romano is learning, Rose's life is anything but boring. Joe has some investigating to do on his own, and comes back with some startling news.

If you are a fan of the old series, you will love this new one. If you are new to the Rose Gardner character, you will fall in love with her along with the rest of us. Some of the old characters are back, some we only hear about, and my fingers are crossed that one particular character heads home for the farm for good. Highly recommend.

LOVED THIS. Five stars- and I don't do that lightly. It had everything that I loved from the Rose Gardener series (the gang is all there) plus more Neely Kate (which is always a good thing... she's so damn mysterious, that one!) and let me just say that Team Skeeter fans WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED (for the most part... and yes I am aware how ominous that sounds...) Wow. Just.... wow. lol (And that's all I'm going to say about that!) BUT. THAT ENDING. AHHHH! I need more! Right meow!!

Family Jewels by Denise Grover Swank is the first book in the Rose Gardner Investigation series. Landscapers Rose Gardner and her friend Neely Kate are hired to find a missing necklace and find themselves in the middle of a power struggle amongst the criminal underworld. This book is the first in the series although apparently it is a spin off of another series. There were so many references to past happenings that it is more of a continuation rather than a new series and this was annoying. I may have liked it better if I had known the back story but I found Rose too pushy, making a lot of silly decisions and too arrogant in becoming involved and her friend was even worse. Not a series that I will continue with.

Rose and Neely Kate are hired to find a necklace that has disappeared, but when people start dying they realise there is more going on than just a missing necklace. An underworld war is brewing and somehow Rose and Neely Kate are at the centre of it.

The same characters that I adore in a brand new series. I can't get enough of Rose and her band of friends.

2.5 STARS

Rose Gardner is a garden landscaper by trade, and a busy one at that. She runs her business with her friends, the stunningly attractive Neely Kate and Bruce Wayne. However, she and Neely Kate also dabble in private investigating in addition to running what is supposed to be a thriving business, and Rose also has ties to the underworld which has her worrying over a friend.

The two best-friends appear to have quite complicated/messy personal lives (from the little I can recall), the writing was good, but I just couldn’t get into the story and characters. Plus, this didn’t feel like book 1 in the series, and I finished this feeling like I was missing a lot of background knowledge.

This won't be going into my re-read pile.

I was totally drawn into this one because of the cover. And it was book one...or so I thought.

I'd definitely recommend reading the original series first. I made my way through Family Jewels but it was very apparent I was missing a LOT of backstory. 9 books it turns out since this is a spin off series. I think it would have helped during the book but especially at the end make it seem more believable if I'd read the others. As it was the ending had me going yeah okay. lol

But this one on it's own. It wasn't bad. It made me want to read more about this group. So I will be going back to the start of the other series. It's interesting, kept me guessing and I liked all of the main characters and wanted to know more about them. Spend more time with them. So lots of positives.

EDIT: I've since gone back and read the original series then re-read Family Jewels. I love it! And moved my rating up to 4 stars.

The Gist: Rose and her best friend have been hired to find a missing necklace. Seems simple enough but everyone is telling their own story, it's somehow tied up into the criminal underworld which Rose is trying to avoid these days, and well, things get complicated.

I enjoyed this one the second go around, too. Loved seeing Rose getting back into adventure, getting over the loss of a relationship, finding maybe tendrils of a new relationship with James (even though he's a crime lord he's sexy as hell!).

The mystery was fun. So many people out for the necklace, so many conflicting stories, a little danger and sleuthing. It was entertaining.

And the elements of Romance. This isn't what I'd call a romance but had elements/potential. I'm sad to see Rose isn't with her previous guy since I loved him but I kinda also love James and am curious to see how things with go with the two of them. There's definitely chemistry and one heck of a spark!

Overall, nicely done and entertaining. A good investigation, nice characters and relationships, pretty pretty cover. Made me happy.

Clear your schedule and put your life on hold!! Once you start Family Jewels you are not going to want to stop reading until you've read the very last word. And then you're going to want to sit there for a moment and just bask in all that is Rose, and Neely Kate too.

I received an advanced copy of Family Jewels in exchange for an honest review, and here it is. This book will NOT disappoint!! It was long awaited, much anticipated, and Family Jewels has become my most favorite DGS book. It starts with the antics of Neely Kate's crazy cousin and continues on to edge of your seat encounters that only Rose can manage, as well as some moments that will leave you breathless.

DGS has masterfully woven characters and story lines from the Rose Gardner Mysteries into the new adventures of Rose and Neely Kate and their investigations. You can start with this book and become an instant fan, or you can be an old fan feeding your addiction, and both will be truly satisfied. Waiting for the next installment is an exercise in patience, as there can never be enough Rose.

Series Reading Order, per author:
1. Family Jewels
2. Trailer Trash
I had told myself that I was finished with Rose Gardner's world after the Rose Gardner series ended, but I just can't seem to quit this cast of characters. When the book showed up free on my Bookbub newsletter the other day, I couldn't resist diving back in and seeing what everyone is up to. 📚4/24/18 pick up this title on Kindle for free! 📚

This is a spinoff series of the Rose Gardner series, but the reader does not need to have read those books to get enjoyment from this one! I didn't re-read the previous books (as is my custom because I have the memory of a godlfish), and Swank managed to recap the previous developments well without bogging down the narrative. I will say that a lot of my enjoyment was seeing where the characters I had grown to love were getting on, and so I will refrain from spoiler territory.

Rose and Neely Kate are hired to find a missing necklace, but things (as always with these two) are never as complicated and they find themselves in a bit of a pickle. The best friends are battling their own personal demons while trying to unravel the mystery... and stay safe while doing it.

This series has sucked me back into Henryetta and their world, and I cannot say that I am sorry about that! I really hope that Neely Kate eventually convinces Rose to open up their investigation company sometime soon.

This is a fast-paced and action-packed book, and a solid addition to the Rose Gardner universe. Those that like a good cozy mystery that is character driven should definitely pick this one up!

The FAMILY JEWELS are missing…

Denise Grover Swank clearly has a knack for creating quirky characters that are endearing, feisty and folksy, because that is what she did with Rose and her BFF, Neely Kate!

A landscaping entrepreneur, there is a bit of a sleuth in Rose and being asked to find some family jewelry will send her on dangerous path to trouble, deceit and maybe a little romance, too! Now caught up in a local underworld power struggle, Rose will need the help of the “King of Crime,” who she just may have a soft spot for, because he really is a "good" bad guy.

Not having read the series from which this is a spinoff, I was at a disadvantage, but that said, I was entertained, chuckled a little and found out that the citizens of Fenton Count, Arkansas aren’t as small town pure as they seem!

Rose may find she is better suited to detective work than planting posies! A light, fun read, for sure!

HOW EXCITING!!!! I'm an die hard fan of the series when it was formerly known as the Rose Gardner Mysteries. But now I think this became an more "Mature" book of Rose, sure she's dealing with some nuptials but at the same time she's truly discovering who she is.

But honestly I think when Rose played the role of Lady, I think that is her persona, she just has to find a way to bring Lady into the daytime.

It seems that both Neely Kate and Rose are trying to move on, but the past always seems to come up. Now let's talk about Rose's love life, her heart opens up to everyone it's a trait of her and while she not with Mason (anymore) I'm not sure how I feel about the recent romance that stirring.

There was even a moment between her and James Malcolm that was shocked me, I didn't think that there was something more between them. To be honest I'm not sure I want her with Malcolm only because he lives on the side of crimes and her involvement with crimes is what split up her and Mason. I still hope for a reunion for Mason and Rose,

As far as Neely Kate, she is for sure ready to move on but again she wondered what happen to Ronnie because she's been trying to be officially "divorce" to him but he's disappeared. Did JR Simmons or even Kate Simmons have a role in that?

I like that Neely Kate is wanting to put her and Rose's investigation skills to the test but now the trouble lies where they are being dragged back to Skeeter's world. How can they be consider serious investigators when they are in the world of Skeeter Malcolm.

I'm happy that Joe and Neely Kate finally have a relationship but god darn it JOE!!! WHY do you insisted on keeping things from her?

I give this 5 Cat Paws, as usual I love Rose, now I love her even more with she and Neely Kate being the single women with an "I take no crap from no one" attitude. Can't wait to read the EXPOSE Novellas and the next investigation, maybe Mason will have an appearance?

Strap in your heels, Sparkles Investigation is coming.

No really I hope Rose can get Neely Kate to come up with something much more serious.

Welcome back Rose Gardner.

I won't lie, I had some fears going into this book. I was afraid it would turn from Romantic Suspense to more of a cozy mystery. I should have known better! This book was everything we have come to know and love about Rose Gardner. Suspense, humor and love.

If you are new to the series, you will be able to pick up here and not worry about the past story arc, you are filled in on the significant information and if you are a reader that has read from the beginning you won't be bogged down with details from the previous books.

I was a little annoyed with Neely Kate at times, because she was keeping things from Rose that I felt Rose needed to know to further their investigation. I know what Rose keeps things from NK as well, but I know what Rose is hiding since, I am in her head. This is just a silly issue therefore I didn't take a star away.

They case felt simple but, with everything Rose touches, things begin to spiral out of control and take you on crazy twists and turns until you have no idea how things will end up.

If you have read and loved the original Rose series, you will continue to love this one. If you are just now trying Rose out, you will fall in love with her like the rest of Rose Lovers. Check it out today.

Family Jewels by Denise Grover Swank a fantastic five star read. This is the first book in the Rose Gardener investigations series, which is a spin-off of the Rose Gardner Mystery series. If you have read the Mystery series then you will know the dilemmas we have faced Team Joe, Team Mason and then towards the end Team Skeeter. I was always a Joe girl, but then Skeeter wormed his way into my heart. Now I am more confused than ever. All I know is I need a Neely Kate in my life. Trouble seems to follow Rose where ever she goes, and NK is always there as back up, with a little help from the boys obviously, and Jed a bad boy with a heart it seems.
There is mystery and intrigue at every step. Along with a will they, won’t they romance with another player thrown into the mix. There are also the underlying problems facing everyone, like NK and her private heartache. Bruce Wayne and his final happiness. This story shows us the true happiness that friends can bring, and how just being there for someone can bring you to the light

Phew! I have to admit I was worried that the spinoff Rose books would be different from the original series but rest assured, if you've loved Rose all along, you'll love this book too! As I've always written in my reviews, the thing I love most about DGS's books is her character development. It's multifaceted, multilayered and so complex. You cannot not care about these characters. Just try.

The plot is suspenseful and I tore through the book. I actually bought it awhile ago but held onto it until the Neely Kate book came out so I would have two back-to-back because it's so hard to read just one. Crazy, right? Anyway, this book was funny, emotional, suspenseful and fun - the usual DGS menu of reading joy. And...she got me to change teams (sorry, Mason, not sorry). Thank you Denise for another great read!

Oh my stars and garters! Wow, I was not expecting all that in the first book in the Rose Gardner Investigations series. But let's face it, I could probably make that statement after almost every Rose book I have every read, there's always excitement and curveballs you never expect.

Between the Sins of the Father Novella and the start of this book, several months have passed since the craziness of JR Simmon's demise and Mason's departure from Rose's life, Rose and her landscaping company are back to business as usual (with some laugh out loud humor courtesy of Neely Kate's kin in the opening scenes of the book), Joe is back on the job, and life around Fenton County seems relatively normal.

Rose and Neely Kate are quickly pulled into their first paying investigation looking into some missing family jewels, which of course turns into something more sinister and dangerous than it would ever appear when taking on the case. Their investigation leads them through many twists and turns, provides some laughs but puts them into quite a few "tense" situations. And not surprising, the family jewels end up playing a role in the battle for helm of the Fenton County underworld.

I can't say enough about how much admiration I have for the growth of Rose throughout the previous series and how it's truly come to fruition in the new storyline. She has become a bit of a firecracker, bold and confident in herself and her abilities. Yes, she's still mending a broken heart, but she's testing the waters of dating again in this book, and the date is totally Rose, that's all I'll say. There's a strong presence of Neely Kate in this book too, which I love, and there are a lot of hints of secrets that's she's keeping from Rose and probably everyone else too. Joe is off looking for Ronnie to help put that part of her life behind her as well, so I think there's a lot of exciting things in store for us from Neely Kate soon.

Of course this review wouldn't be complete without saying how much I was just so beyond words (literally) excited at the interactions of two characters in this book. I mean, I could go on and on and on, but you just need to read this amazing book for yourself to fully understand how wonderful it was and how excited I am for the next installment.

Rose is back!!

Rose Gardner is one of my all-time favorite characters. I was so sad when the original Rose Gardner Mystery series was ending. I thought that was the end of her character and stories and I was devastated. I am so glad that Neely Kate was able to convince Rose to keep at it. ;)

I am already a huge mystery lover so these types of stories appeal to me and there's something about Rose and her shenanigans that really get me excited when a new one comes out. I devoured this book every spare moment I had and when I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it. I may have even had a few Rose Gardner themed dreams here or there. (I'm odd, I know.)

Family Jewels had so much going on in the story that there was almost never a dull moment. There were times were there were lulls, but honestly those were the quiet periods before the storms hit. No matter where Rose Gardner goes, chaos and calamity seem to follow. It doesn't matter what she's trying to do. It could be as innocuous as brushing her teeth and she'd find some way to get kidnapped, shot, or both!

While you could ultimately read this without reading the other Rose Gardner books first, why would you want to? The first book is free on every platform and the journey from the first book Rose to the current Rose is one of my most favorite parts of this character. Plus, you'd be missing out on the hilarity, heartbreak, drama, and some fantastic one-liners and Neely Kate-isms (trust me....those alone are worth reading the books).

10 stars! Denise Grover Swank you did it again! You flashed me and swapped me of my feet! Thank you for this outstanding book! It's one of my favourites in the series. I love the strong, independent Rose and the teasing scenes with James got me all hot and I want more! Most actions and dialogues were so hilarious that I laughed out loud. I don't know what to do until July 11th , that's nearly 8!!!! month! I'm excited about the Neely Kate novella, but 8 month until I can read of James and Rose again......the thought alone put me in a book blues. Dear Denise please keep writing about Rose and her journey and even if there'll be the hundredth book, I'm reading it....and after that I'll re-read the whole series again!

The main character really got on my nerves. She is really messed up and needs not to confuse 'best friend' with selfish brat who manipulates her into doing what she doesn't want to do. What really bothered me is that Rose would complain about not wanting to do something and getting pushed into doing it anyway - over and over again.

Denise Grover Swank NEVER disappoints when it comes to the Rose Gardner series. I truly hope that she continues writing about Rose forever!! The Rose Gardner Investigations is off to a great start. I know it's the first book in the new series, so of course, Denise had to set some groundwork on what the series is about. There were a few places that were slow, but overall it was a quick, enjoyable read. I look forward to what the series brings.

Family Jewels - I was addicted to the Rose Gardner series so was so happy to see the series continued. So far the first book in the series is same time period and as good as the previous series. The end dealt a whallop to my heart with her relationship with Skeeter for me though. I adore her being a good person who has changed under him to also become a mysterious supporter and partner with him, to me that's story perfection but the author keeps changing and unraveling it so who knows.

Love Rose Gardner!

I am biased. I have loved Rose, Neely Kate, Joe, Skeeter and Jed since day one. This story is like reuniting with old friends. But if you haven't read the other Rose Gardner stories, Denise does a great job of introducing them to you.
And if you have the chance, the audio book is fantastic as well! It's wonderful hear of Rose's shenanigans while I drive to work and then come home and continue with the reading.

Typical Rose Gardener book. Most of them follow the same layout of events but doesn't make them any less enjoyable. I did enjoy the parts where James and Rose finally start discussing feelings for each other, however I don't think Denise will have Rose in a serious relationship anytime soon. I do wish she would move the timeline forward a little bit. I feel like time in the books crawls by awfully slowly, especially for so much to be going on in them.

**I received an early copy of this book for an honest review.

I could not put this book down! It was so exciting, funny, teasing and of course lovable!!

After convincing Rose to start investigating a stolen necklace to "build up" their resume as "investigators", she and Neely Kate find themselves in more trouble than the reward seems worth. Trouble seems to follow Rose like a shadow and she can't help but try and resolve all the ongoing problems.

Rose, Neely Kate, Muffy and lots of characters from the previous books are back in this new series. Not to worry, if you haven't read the Rose Gardener Mystery series you WILL NOT be lost! Instead you will find yourself wanting to start reading RGMs too!

As always, Denise's writing is superb and leaves you feeling like you just went through all the trials and tribulations right along with Rose. I felt embarrassed when she was embarrassed, angry when she was and of course my heart was racing at the thrilling parts.
I cannot wait for the next book!

This series is already going on the "favorites" list! I love Rose books and I know anyone who reads this book will fall in love straight away!

YAY Rose & Co are back for a brand new series!!!!

Set four or so months after the final book in the Rose Gardner mystery series, Rose and the whole gang (minus mason... *weeps*) for more trouble in the under belly of her towns crime world.

Great start, what I love most about these novels I'd that why are so easy to read and you end up getting very addicted! I love Denise's writing style, everything I have every read that she has written has become an instant favourite, this book was no exception to that! Brilliant, love the all the character development that still is happening.

I understand why the last series ended like it did, Rose needs to explore herself and she what she can truly do. I think her gift of visions is a lot more powerful that she knows right now, her relationships with everyone around her are all still growing as well. She is strong stubborn women and I love reading about her (and Neely Kate toooo)

Omg omg omg....oh my god. This was amazing!

Can I just say I would love to read about Rose and all of her adventures forever!?! Her stories have been so complex during the Rose Gardner Mystery Series that I found myself stuck deep into this crazy world and with all the people in it. In this amazing spinoff we still get to hang out with Rose and Neely Kate while they try to help a local hunt down a family necklace that could be worth big bucks. And once word is out everyone wants a chance to cash in for it..some do with their lives. As with all the other books I found myself laughing, biting me nails off, and breathless during different scenes. There was so much going on I couldn't put it down and loved every second of it. And our favorite bad boy is front and center to help Rose, or maybe like any expert criminal, help himself. Oh the twists!!!

Not up to the usual high standards

I think the theme of this book is review and reflection with a dash of mystery solved at the end. This book didn't have the feel and the flow of the other Rose G. books. I didn't like the way Rose was always calling for help in the beginning of the book and then suddenly decides decides she'll go it alone when things get really dangerous- it felt contrived. I didn't feel like there was much of a real story- the set up at the beginning and the resolution at the end. The rest of the book was a rehash of old characters and events and every few pages a review of what had taken place in the story. If this is your first time reading Rose Gardner series, this is a good introduction. For me, it was just okay but I'm still a fan and looking forward to the next book.
