The Fall

Rate this book
Salvation doesn’t exist. It’s a lie people tell themselves in the dark, alone so their conscience might be eased. To give them hope that, in the end, we can all be forgiven. Except we can’t. And no amount of praying will change that. For me there will be no redemption, and I will leave this world with the same black heart I entered it with. The comfort in knowing who I am and what I am capable of keeps me warmer than any lie of having my soul saved. Because I know the truth. Because I know there is no Heaven. And there is no Hell. There is only the fall. Michael has no one. No family. No Friends. And not a soul in the world cares about him, only a system that tried to break him. With a strong dislike for establishments and conformity, he has lived his life as a rogue. A hired thug with no allegiances except to his own word. Sofia has grown up in the shadow of her father—one of the most powerful drug lords in the city. She has vowed to bring him to justice, moving through the ranks of the Chicago PD in an effort to be as far removed from her father’s lifestyle as possible. Two worlds collide when Michael shows up at her door, a gun in his hand and a look in his eyes that terrifies her. Suddenly, Sofia has a price on her head and Michael is the only one who can keep her out of the crossfire.

T Gephart is a USA Today and International bestselling author from Melbourne, Australia.

With an approach to life that is somewhat unconventional, she prefers to fly by the seat of her pants rather than adhere to some rigid roadmap.

Her lack of "plan" has resulted in a rather interesting and eclectic resume, which reads more like the fiction she writes than an actual employment history.

She'd tell you all about it, but the statute of limitations hasn't expired yet. But all those crazy twists and turns have led her to a career she loves—writing romantic comedy.

When she isn't filling pages with sassy and sexy characters with attitude, she's living her own reality show in the 'burbs of Melbourne with her American husband, two teenage children, and her fur child—Woodley.

She loves adventure, to laugh, travel, and strives to live her life to the fullest.

This will be the first time reading anything by this author so I'm keen to see what kind of journey she takes me on with this book.

THE FALL: We meet Michael in the 'Prologue' orphaned and dropped off at a hospital only a few hours old, due to his mother dying during childbirth, two nuns naming him and proclaiming him abandoned and left in the church's vestibule whilst covering up the death. Thrown into the system, in and out of one foster home to another like a revolving door.

Then the story jumps (30 years later) A job's come up, remove the girl from harm, protect her for a few weeks until the heat dies down.

There is no heaven. And there is no hell. There is only the fall.

She knew it was only a matter of time when the wolf came a knocking at her door demanding payment for the sins of her father.

Sofia a well respected cop a disowned daughter of a King Pin who has made it her mission to take down the criminal underworld her father has his hands in. With a bounty on her head her father hires Michael a natural born killer who kills without remorse, who knows no boundaries is ordered to keep her safe and out of harms way. This job is well over Michael's head, he's never taken a job like this on before.

A hardened criminal and a cop on the run, what could possibly go wrong? A shit ton is what! A shoot out, out running cops, dead bodies piling up, guns a blazing, add grand theft auto and this is sit on your edge of your seat action!!

This was surprisingly good, I love my mafia reads, and this is no exception, I was hooked as soon as I started this, a man fighting the demons of his past, a woman struggling between right and wrong. Both thrown together by circumstance.

But I have to say it that ending GAH!!

4 ”I need MORE Michael” stars.

"There is no heaven. And there is no hell. There is only .”

3 days has passed since I finished , and NO, I'm still not over the ending. I want more. I need MORE!!!!!!!

This was my first experience with T. Gephart and it won’t be the last. The journey wasn't perfect, it had some bumps along the road but if there was something, more likely someone, that standout no matter what, that was MICHAEL. I'm completely and utterly in LOVE with him, character flaws and all. He is one of those characters that it doesn't matter whether you love him or hate him. You won't stand a chance against him, he will suck you whole throughout the entire book.

I'll finish my Michael fangirling now and move on to the story.

has the romance, the intriguing plot, and the ability to keep you on the edge of your seat from the first page to the last. But not only that, T. Gephart’s writing is brilliantly addictive, it will suck you into this story with little effort and I promise you that at the end of it you will be begging for MORE!

At a young age, Sofia cut ties with her family as a way to stay away from the criminal world her father has his hands in. And as a total fuck off to him, she became a respected cop, one who has made her mission to take her father and his associates down. Through her journey she has made a lot of enemies so at some point Sofia will have to face the music and that time has come. With a bounty on her head her father hires my Michael, a professional killer to keep her safe.

“He was completely devoid of emotion.”

A criminal, a heartless man, that was Michael. I already told you how much I love him so I wont repeat myself. I will ended this paragraph telling you that Michael is worth everything and more and that you need to meet him by yourself. You need to experience him because there are no words to describe how much I fell for this character.

"With him, I felt powerful. There were no victims in this bed; we were equals.”

Sofia & Michael were the couple, the good and the bad mixing to create something powerful. Together they were unstoppable. There was never a doubt in my mind that they belonged together. OMG I'm going to cry.

With an angsty, gripping, suspenseful and sexy plot, T. Gephart delivers a story with the power to make you FEEL every twist and turn. If you are a fan of romantic suspense this book is for you!!

Can I please get more Michael? Please tell me there is more after this book!!!!!

P.S. If you decide to read it... Good Luck :) Think of me when you get to the end. LOL.

5 dark, bone chilling stars!!!!

First of all I have read every single book Tina has released and loved every single one them, The Fall is no exception, yes it is completely different to anything she has ever written we don't get the sweet dream romance what we do get is bone racking, thrilling, dark and twisty and I loved every single minute!!!

I won't be going into details of the plot as you need to read it yourself but what I will say is Michael is a killer he's almost robotic he never gives the kills a second thought, Sofia is the complete opposite, she's a cop and grew up with a crime lord as a father but is determined to bring the organised crime down in her city of Chicago.

I loved Sofia as she's strong and very independent, I love strong female leads in books and Tina has provided one in Sofia. Michael on the other hand was harder to connect with but his redeeming qualities (extremely trustworthy and loyal) made it only a matter of time before I started to like him more.

If you love a good, extremely well written dark romance then one click The Fall you won't be disappointed.

PS Tina will we be getting a book two?? That ending!!!!!

Seriously what the fuck? Is that the end? Was this supposed to be a romance? Is this a stand alone? Will there be a follow up? Cause WHAT THE FUCK? I know some people don't care about cliffy's and "real" endings and blah blah blah. I'm not one of those people. When I start a book I like to know there's an ending, a satisfying one at that. But this? No. Just no. I can't believe I wasted 3 days and precious reading time for it to end this way. No no no. Don't waste your time folks.

This book was not like any other book I've read by T Gephart. It's not unusual for her books to have me laughing out loud, something that this book didn't do. That doesn't make it a bad book though, its a great book, but don't expect it to be anything like the Lexi/Black Addiction/Power Station books. This story is dark, intriguing and page turning and the twists will leave you shocked and with a definite book hangover. The ending jolts you to the point you sit open mouthed, and can't believe what you've read. There was a part of the ending that I had to read a couple of times, one because it was such a shock and two because I wasn't sure I'd understood it correctly. That was probably because it wasn't detailed when it occurred in the time frame of the story, but was described later as part of the narrative, so I thought I'd missed something or misread it. I probably would have liked it to be detailed from the main character's perspective when it happened (personal choice). However, it being written that way added to the surprise and made it all the more shocking. I also thought that we were left with an opportunity for more from a particular character. Without giving anything away, I think that Tina built a strong character, whose personality wouldn't allow things to end where they did. Hopefully that means that although this is a standalone we will hear more from them. This book was thoroughly entertaining and gripping and I would highly recommend you read it to see a different side to this fantastic authors writing.

The Fall is twisty, unpredictable and dark in both storyline and characters so I have given it 5 dangerous and deceitful stars. I should start off by saying The Fall isn't like other T.Gephart novels. This story isn’t sunshine and roses, so don’t expect to be given a hero on a white horse, a damsel in distress and an ending tied up in a big red bow. Michael is a bad guy. Not the bad boy, who once he meets the right woman will settle down and make a home behind a picket-fence. He has no attachments, no light and kills without remorse. Sofia is a cop who is fighting to bring down the underworld. The pair are opposites. Until one starts to influence the other, and vice versa, balancing the scales until they find themselves both fighting the same fight.
There are some unexpected twists and character developments that keep you interested till the end. When I thought I had the direction figured out, I soon discovered that I really didn’t. It was a relief to find T. Gephart's usual humorous writing style peek through on occasion, allowing a short break from the tension and suspense.
The end of the story lends itself to a follow up, however a second book isn’t necessary. I can't say I liked the ending, but it was fitting conclusion to this gritty plot.

I am a huge fan of Gepharts Rock Star Romance books, so naturally I would be dying to read her next book. A few pages in, I knew this was a whole different beast to her Romance books, for this is a delve into the unknow. Ladies and Gentleman, T. Gephart, Thriller writer has arrived and boy does she deliver.

It is a tension wracking, nerve biting ride and you will be sucked into this story. This is the proof that Gephart is more than a one trick pony. Read this book!

p.s. If Gephart decides to writer more books in this vein, sign me up!!!

"There was a tipping point. A pivotal moment where your body stops pumping blood to where it should and your brain stops firing synapses. And you know you're going to die.
And then you fall into the abyss of the end - the final breath, the final thought - all of it coming at you in a rush of darkness.
Freedom."

Hired thug, a man without a soul and a black heart. A cop who has tried to balance the scales as her father has the stains of many sins on his hands. Forced together to survive not everything is as it appears to be. Nature or nurture, is there any escape from your DNA or will the destiny of your genetics always find you? Sofia is the disowned daughter of a King Pin who is rumored to know far too much and has made it her mission to bring down the criminal underworld her Father is immersed in. A bounty is on her head as the powerful men who live in light whilst they conduct their illegal business in the shadows cannot have a willful woman bring them down. Michael, a man without roots, is a gun for hire. Tasked with keeping her alive until things settle down is she more than he bargained for? As the smoke and mirrors reveal the truth can they work together to escape the inevitable fall?

Wow. I'm breathless and filled with adrenaline and a crazy hope that maybe this isn't the end and a stand alone will become a series. I love him. Michael and all his self deprecating coldness, honed in the brutality of his childhood consolidated by his experiences as an adult he is the ultimate hired thug. Willing to do anything no questions asked for the money he is a perfectly imperfect and my favourite type of anti hero. He offers no sympathy, empathy or remorse for his actions, attitudes and decisions. He is steadfast in his motivations and beliefs until Sofia gets under his skin. She is brave, headstrong and totally unexpected. Yet she has hope, faith and shows compassion. The flip side of the same coin, so similar yet vastly different. But opposites attract and their mutal respect burns brightly and becomes desire. Promises are made but can they be kept? The Fall is sensuously dark, with dramatically poetic tragedy - sacrifice, love and loss. The end crushed me just a little but then my blackened heart decided actually it was perfect! Then hope reignited that Michael may make a further appearance one day as the job isn't quite finished. The plot was relatively simple yet the twists were unexpected and the writing style fully incorporated suspense, drama and a sizzling sexual tension throughout that made this a must read. If you love a thrilling action packed edge of your seat type read then this is the story for you.

A five star I felt like I was falling read.

Michael is an assassin with no conscious, dark troubled past and instead of finding the truth he retains hatred. Sophia is his target and when he meets her he is cold, hard and indifferent. He has a job to do and will see it to the end.

"Sofia". It was the first time I'd used her name as I moved closer to her. "Don't think for a second just because I have given the illusion of choice that you will actually have one."

Sofia's father ...... Selfish, cruel and greedy.

Truths unfold, surprises and revelations. Suspenseful, dark story and the epilogue not what I expected, shocking. Hope there is a follow on to this book.

Seriously this book blew my mind. What a truly gripping, dark, suspense filled masterpiece, delivered with so much punch it left me holding my breath, while wondering what the heck just happened.

T Gephart is well known for the fantastic romance she writes, but when I found out she was writing something on the opposite end of the scale, I couldn’t wait. OMG it was sooo worth it. From the first pages – and I mean literally the first pages I was hooked. This book wasn’t going to let me go - the words tapped into my darker side, wrapped themselves around the part of my heart that likes to hide in shadows & hold me captive until the end. It was powerful, raw & commanded respect – needless to say I literally did FALL right in to the world of Michael & Sofia.

Michael. Dark, dangerous & ruthless. A natural born killer of the highest order. He has lived a life that has moulded him into the man he is today. Knowing very little of how he entered the world, but knowing everything bad that shaped him. He doesn’t seek forgiveness & salvation is just a word for the foolish & this man is no fool. Paid to do the biding that the cities powerful need done to stay in control, he moves from one job to the next. Exacting his own form of paid justice. Until he is approached by one of the leading Drug Lords – No death this time, he will be paid to keep his daughter alive. Easy right?? He doesn’t except the fierceness that is Sofia. He doesn’t expect to suddenly feel emotions he isn’t worthy of. It’s just a job – or so he tries to convince himself.

Sofia. Strong, fierce, determined. God I loved her will to survive, the fight that flowed through her blood no matter what she was faced with overwhelmed me. She is the daughter of one of the cities Kingpins – with a price on her head. Having gone against her family & joined law enforcement, she has made it her life goal to bring them all to their knees & pay the price for their actions. She knew the day would come that her father’s life would catch her up, but never in a million years did she expect it in the form of protection. Until Michael. The man is dark, dangerous & carries death in his eyes. He is cold, removed & god does he frustrate her. But even with all of this, she feels safe in his protection, safe wrapped up in his world. She sees the good, as she learns about his life. She knows this man is worthy of redemption, she just doesn’t know how to make him believe it too.

The charter development was exceptional throughout this entire book. Being able to see deep into their psyche allowed me to gain so much more about who they are – especially Michael. The plot twists were cruel, hard & powerful, gripping me tight & forcing me to keep turning the pages.

The prologue was truly outstanding & set the backbone for what followed - a nail biter of a journey, that stayed dark & dangerous to the very end. It maybe flirted with the light, giving hope that good could conquer evil, that anyone could be saved, but it never lost its identity which is what I loved hard about it.

The ending – fml. The epilogue – kill me know. The last words on the last page of this book kept me hanging & then pushed me head first into the fall. I want more. I need more. I hope beyond hope that Tina decides to give life to book 2.

5 thrilling stars.

Wow! Just wow!

I have read everything by T Gephart to date, but The Fall was a departure from what I have come to expect from her.

A big departure.

The Fall is dark, gritty, raw. From the first page to the last it was a gut wrenching rollercoaster of a ride

Sofia and Michael's story was like reading a Jason Bourne story. The adrenaline was pumping, I was kept on the edge of my seat (well, the edge of my couch!) and with each and every twist and turn I was left saying

And just when I thought I knew what was going to happen next..

BAM - she threw that ending at us!

The Fall had me laughing, crying, screaming in frustration, and mostly it left me wanting more.

Please Ms Gephart, give me more

** Review written by Gayle from Bloggers From Down Under **

Are you ready for The Fall?

Michael.
He is darkness.
A man with no soul.
A man surrounded by darkness, not a hint of colour in his life.
Loved by nobody.
A loner.
A man with blood on his hands.
A man who simply doesn't fear death.
A man that will take your last breath from you without blinking an eye.
A man so cold and calculated, void of any emotion he will take a life.
It's how he lives.
A man failed by a system which has left him so tormented and broken that death is his outlet.
It's all he knows.
The pain he inflicts on his victims his his vice, it's what he lives and breathes for.
But one job will change everything.
She will ultimately be his game changer.
She will make him question everything.

Sophia.
Born into an underground family.
Her father a drug lord.
She has seen things that no girl should have ever witnessed in a lifetime.
She leaves her home, hell bent on revenge.
To take down her own father and his crimes.
It's her life mission, even if it means her life is in danger.
Even if it means that she will spend her life forever watching over her shoulder.

But what happens when these two people, Michael and Sophias worlds collide?

Sent to her home by her father, it's Michaels job to protect Sophia.
There is a bounty on her head.
The powers of the underground want Sophia gone.
She knows too much.
She's a risk.
Michael has to keep her alive.

But can he?
Can Michael keep her safe?
Does he even want too?
Can Sophia trust Michael who is everything she isn't enough to keep her untouched?
Or will this be the end for them both?

Guys you just need to read The Fall to find out.

I have read other novels from T. Gephart, but believe me when I say this was so completely unexpected and quite frankly threw me completely.

The Fall is nothing short of gut turning, raw, confronting, dark, gritty, highly emotional and all things sinful. It's adrenaline pumping, edge of your seat stuff that leaves you second guessing at every turn.
I was blown away by the twists, the twists guys was nothing short of bone chilling.
But what drew me the most......The ending.....Yes people the ending. I had to literally read it twice because I couldn't believe what I was reading. It left me breathless.

I seriously can't rate this novel high enough, it had everything I could have wanted from a novel and so much more. I am speechless people, completely speechless.

A huge 5 star read.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

This is my first book by T Gephart. So far I didn't read any of her funny and witty romances but heard a lot positive about them. I met Tina personally and thought it will be definitely worth it to give this rather darker story a try. I don't regret it at all.

When I started the book I thought it is purely a crime story. It is intense; the writing style lets you turn the pages and includes still some wit. After a few chapters I thought more and more that a romance is developing between Michael and Sofia our two main characters just in a dark setting. In the end I don't know what I read. I can't give it a label as it has elements of both but the ending... I don't want to give it away but it is unexpected to say the least and that is always good, isn't it?

The story line is not overly complicated but that does not take anything away from the story or the enjoyment reading it. The atmosphere is tense, the dialogs really good. The character development very precise, believable and not rushed. I like that a lot.

The ending left me a bit unsatisfied to be honest and I can only hope that T Gephart intends to write a follow up. Then it would make perfect sense, deliberately set up to achieve what Michael wanted all along and certainly be an interesting read.
Another idea crept up. The ending might be just expression of reversed moral. That in fact would be an ingenious outcome of the story. Try it yourself and find your own interpretation. Not obvious at all I can tell you. It must be a good story if it keeps you guessing...

I didn't give 5 stars for two reasons. With exception of the ending which knocked me out I guessed the twists in the plot. It seems it's only me and not commonly easy to figure out but for some reason I guessed it right.

The other reason is that the settings sometimes felt a bit one-dimensional. Over longer periods there were only our two main characters acting or rather speaking. It felt more like a theatre play on stage then a book but then I thought that might have been wanted. It certainly created a very intense atmosphere.

Overall I recommend "The Fall" for everybody who likes a story in darker setting and for who character study and development is as important as the story line or just loves a surprise ending.

Please excuse some strange wording. English is not my first language.

This is a standalone book by an author I've never read before.

This story is about Michael. He's a hired killer. He has alliance to no one. Cold. Angry. Indifferent. His life is his own. He accounts to no one.

He receives a call from a local big criminal Jimmy Amaro to do a job for him. Used to being hired to kill or harm he's taken aback when Jimmy asks him to keep his daughter safe. It's a babysitting job and he is not a people person. Jimmy ups the fee and Michael agrees. Meeting Sophia, Michael feels nothing, appreciating her beauty but nothing else. He will do his job. He never fails.

Sophia is a Police Officer. She is estranged from her father and wants nothing more than to take him down. She's compiling a file on him and all his criminal friends determined to get them all sent to jail. Michael turns up on her doorstep, tells her she's in danger and that she's going with him. Sensing the danger she goes.

From this moment on their lives intertwine in ways they could never guess.

I'm really really torn on this book. I have no idea how to feel about it! The first 30%ish was steady and gave back story, then the action started and i really got into it. It pulled me in i became truly invested in them both. Michael is hard all the way through. He has no idea how to deal with feelings. He's spent his whole life not having any and when he does have some he doesn't know what to do with them. I did actually love him. He was strictly no BS and protective. Sophia is so strong. She deals with everything that is thrown at them, both for herself and for Michael. She guides him and helps him to deal. The s*x scenes with them is pretty hot and the way it's written is perfect for them.

Then the end came. I will not give spoilers but i can tell you the ending is what caused my dilemma. I don't think anyone will see it coming, i certainly didn't! and I'm not sure if i loved it or hated it! It was truly a WTF moment!! I liked that it was original and unexpected but i was also disappointed too! The character was never going to get a "walk off into the sunset" but come on!!! lol

I would recommend this book. It's story-line is great and pulls you in and keeps you guessing. I will warn you about that ending though! You won't see it coming and you won't know whether you want to smash your kindle or laugh or gasp or curse the author out! I will definitely be reading more by this author.

This review will be vague, simply because you need to read this to fully understand what this book is about. I will say that I’m still trying to pick my jaw up off the floor after the ending I just read!! I know most of us are used to T.’s sweet, emotional rock stars… and I won’t lie.. I didn’t read the blurb when I read this, I just got it because it had T.’s name on it. Holy sht, this book is DARK and it’s twisted and so insane, I don’t think there’s enough adjectives in the dictionary to describe this book! Enough with this review… go one click this book now….

The Fall by T. Gephart was a mind wringer for me. That being said, I thought the book was great and the ending was fab. Michael is a machine. He does specialized "jobs" that no-one else wants to do. You need someone "taken care of" you call Michael. It doesn't matter what the job entails, Michael will do it. It helps that Michael is loyal to a fault and trustworthy and will complete the job, as he cannot be paid off. Michael is tasked to secure the daughter of a crime boss and protect her for a unspecific amount of time. Why you ask? Sofia is a Cop and has been poking her nose where it doesn't belong. She despises her father and has been building a case against him and the other crime bosses in the area. Michael accepts the job and sets out to procure and protect Sofia. However, she isn't going to make it easy on him. Things take a drastic and dramatic turn along the way and the end is nothing you would ever see coming.

The Fall gave my head and heart a rush as I was reading this book. I was so drawn into what was happening between Michael and Sofia. I thoroughly enjoyed these two characters. I think out of the two mains, Michael had to have been my favorite. He never waivered in his beliefs. Sofia's character was a good compliment to Michael's, as she was just as tough and unwavering. It was good to see that despite the criminal element in this book, there was still some moral high ground coming through.

The Fall is a good read with a great "didn't see that coming" ending.

Wow! Just wow! This book pulled me in, chewed me up and spit me out and I’m still not sure what happened. The Fall is so deep and dark you will find yourself reading with wide eyes while you chew your fingernails right off. Okay, so maybe that was just me, but I seriously. I could not put the book down.

When Michael was born, he mother died during childbirth. Orphaned and abandoned, he went into the system and was raised into a natural born killer. He never knew love. Heck, I don’t think he even had a real friend. Now, he kills without mercy and without remorse as a hired gun for Chicago’s underworld. He is hired to protect Sophia, he disowned daughter of a mafia kingpin. That can’t be good, right? Well, it is and it isn’t. It definitely makes for good book!
This book contains action, so much action—car chases, guns, dead bodies, running from the cops, dodging more bad guys. The list goes on and on. Michael is supposed to be protecting Sophia from her own father. Then there is the simmering attraction that develops between Michael and Sofia. I guess I wouldn’t really call it romance, more a deep desire that pulled these two together.

The end…well, it kind of gutted me. It was oddly poetic justice and I honestly thought it was the perfect ending to this dark tale of love, loss, desire and sacrifice.

A must read!

OMG!! This book!!! Such a huge switch from her other books but don't get me wrong, she NAILED it with this one!!

Michael came into this world in a storm and has kept it brewing ever since. His life has never been easy and Michael uses that to propel him into the life he leads. He makes his money the only way he knows how. Taking care of other people's dirty work. It doesn't bother him. He has no emotions or soul. It gets it done with easy and moves on. That is until his next job becomes more problems that he was ready for.

Sofia has made it her life mission to take down all the organized crime in Chicago and that means her father as well. Becoming a cop has given her the means to do that. She almost has enough to take them all down and can't wait for that day. When Michael shows up on her doorstep and forces her to go on the run, Sofia starts realize that not everything is black or white.

Get ready for a wild ride to the dark side!! This book had me on the edge of my seat and the last few chapters had me holding my breath. I'm still reeling from the ending and trying to figure out the he*l happened.

Five OMG Stars! First let me start by saying this is a dark romance and if you are looking for something sweet or typical Ms. Gephart then this isn't it. If you love the dark side then definitely you must get this book! Michael is not a good person, he is a loner who kills with no remorse. Sofia is a cop who is trying to bring down organized crime in Chicago, even if that includes her father. When Michael and Sofia meet they are polar opposites but, he can keep her safe. I was hooked from the beginning of this book. I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what will happen next. The story is well written and it takes you through twist, turns, suspense, mystery and a journey that is dark. The ending is amazing and the whole book will leave you with a hangover! Highly recommend it!

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. This book was read and reviewed by Annamaria for Alpha Book Club.

4.5 stars.

I really really loved this book. The characters are great. Michael is a messed up guy but the more I got to know him, the more I loved him. Sofia is a strong, independent woman who takes no shit. She's gonna step up to any situation and handle it, and I loved that about her. Nothing beats a strong female character.

The only thing I didn't like about this book was the ending. Now I'm not gonna bitch and moan about it but T Gephart... you wrote the wrong ending. Or you owe me another book. Either way you owe me!!! The ending was fantastic in that it was completely unexpected. My problem is that I feel there's more of michaels story to be told....so another book needs to be written. Other than that this was an absolutely addictive book. Lots of twists that'll keep you on your toes and urghhh that ending!!! I need more!!

5 Show Stopping Stars

Where do I even begin with explaining to you how much I loved this book without giving anything away...Well other than the fact that you need to read this, it will take your breath away. Make you angry, maybe cry a little (well I did) laugh and even have re-reading a paragraphs because sometimes you just need to make sure lol. I'm a huge fan of Tina's books and this is very different to what she normally writes but it's written so perfectly that I really hope this isn't the last of seeing this genre from her. Thank you Tina for taking me on this journey that is The Fall.

I have no idea how this book is getting so many 4 and 5 star ratings. The pacing and storyline was so slow, my mind would wander while I was reading. Michael was not a likable character in the slightest, and there was zero chemistry between him and Sofia. Also, that ending? Um, no. Not sure how anyone could have actually enjoyed that.

This book took me longer to read than most - again, because of the slow story - and I'm sorry I wasted that many days reading this.

I knew this would definitely be my kind of book long before I even got to the chapter one.

There's just something about Michael.

But anyway... great characters, great story, great world building, great background stories, overall a great read that kept my interest throughout. :)

Happy Reading! :)

I'm not sure how to feel about this one. On one hand it was a good gritty read that had one of the more original story lines I've seen in a long time, but on the other hand, for all its good points and uniqueness it seemed to fall flat for me.

What I did like:

-Michael.
While sure, he wasn't particularly likable for many parts, he felt real. That's something I crave in a book. His character was always fairly consistent to me and even when he did start expressing feelings for Sophia, it still felt in character to me. The author managed to create a character, who stayed an asshole throughout the book and didn't immediately change into an emotional sap because he fell in love. For all his problems and issues, Michael was an interesting read for me.

-The plot:

Mafia romances are a dime a dozen these days. And they almost always go like this:
Hard as but loyal and generally amazing cop/retail worker/ street sweeper/ any job you can think of that has a lower income and shitty hours, accidentally winds up insulting/ stealing from/ pouring her coffee on/ needing to be saved from a mugging by, the big bad hardass mafia boss who decides that he likes her and tries to woo her. This obviously doesn't work as the heroine has morals but in the end after some villain tries to kidnap/ kill / torture her, the mafia boss saves the day and they get married and live happily ever after.

The Fall was not like this. While sure, I knew they were probably going to jump each other's bones in one of the later chapters, Michael didn't immediately turn into a love stricken fool who loses all his brain cells when Sophia is involved and for the most part, there was always emphasis on the main plot while romance took a back seat. The two don't really see eye to eye throughout much of the story but as it evolved, they slowly came to an understanding.

What annoyed me:

-Sophia:
When someone who you know is emotionally stunted points a gun at you, the wise thing to do would be to shut up and not egg them on. Sophia never did this. To be frank, she annoyed me more often than I found her clever and compassionate or what ever crap she was trying to portray.

When I was in junior primary school, I made it my personal mission in life to be
'Quirky' and 'unique'. This meant doing the opposite of what everyone told me to do and arguing back at everything just to prove that I could. Thankfully I grew out of that habit by high school and now there are a lot less hiccups in my life. Sophia hasn't learnt this lesson yet. For three quarters of the book she goes against everything that Michael tells her to do on principal. Never mind the fact that she's seen the dude in action and it's quite obvious that he's got more experience in keeping her alive than she does. And then she still has the cheek to try and justify going through his stuff without his permission and then ask for an apology afterwards. Michael might've done the exact same to her but at least the guy hadn't once made an excuse for it. I don't like people who try and justify why they were more in the right to act like a pice of shit than someone else.

The Ending:
What even was that. Please tell me that the author just conveniently forgot to add in the last two chapters or something and there actually was proper closure written for this story. Would it have killed her to write another 10 000 words to end off properly? In a way this ending was equally as awful as the ending for a cliché story where you see the two living happily ever after in their white picket mansion with five kids running around them.

Over all, a good read - if you like shitty vague, piss poor cliff hanger endings. The ending cost this story its fourth star.

Book Review - The Fall by T Gephart - 5 Can You Say Baddass stars

When an author has such a strong presence within a genre, it’s sometimes difficult to escape those walls. Well Tina got a whole bunch of TNT and blew those fuckers down with this book.

It is so far removed from the crazy, happy but slightly loopy rockstars she normally writes about. Instead we take a huge step down into the dark and dangerous world of contract killers and mob families.

Michael isn’t a loveable douche - he’s stone cold and follows through on any job he’s paid to do, normally ones that involve people snuffed out, and Michael gets extreme satisfaction from his job. Step forward his latest one though, trying to keep the local mob boss’ daughter alive - there’s just the little matter of her being a cop, hating her daddy and being on the shit list of nearly everyone within the criminal community to go up against.

Sofia’s world is about to get completely turned on its head, with Michael holding a gun to it and insisting where he goes, she must follow.

And that’s as much plotline as you need, because you need to experience this book. With more layers than an onion, get reading, keep peeling until it leaves you a crying, broken mess. Or maybe you’re one of the ones like me who pops them in water first so look no tears. However you peel your onions, there are twists that I guarantee you will not see coming within this book and for this reader, it’s so refreshing. As much as I love to occasionally have the simplicity of a paint by numbers book, what really gets me is when readers are lead around in such a manner that at the end of it they have no idea which way is up anymore.

Now Tina’s said that The Fall is a standalone but I do hope it’s not the last time she steps her feet into the dark and murky undergrowth, because she did a damn fine job with The Fall.

Michael is such a complex soul that upon finishing the book I messaged my most twisted sisters and insisted that they read this book because they would adore him - this was of course on the proviso of them knowing I had licked him first.

If you love dark and twisty, if you love an anti hero and if you love books that don’t necessarily go the way you think they are going to throughout, then get that one clicking finger going now and prepare yourself for the fall.

*ARC graciously given in exchange for an honest review*

‘When I looked into his eyes, I saw him. I saw who he was, not who he thought he’d become, and I saw kindness.’

Miss T has kept up my interest with her sizzling hot humor on the Power Station series. But after reading The Fall, I am so, so interested on what more this author can give us. Angsty, emotional, suspenseful. I’m not quite sure how to get over this book.

A man without a concrete identity is the hardest target. No family to pawn on, no feelings to play with. Michael lived his life killing people. Devoid of empathy and a stranger to love, he had no problem slitting someone’s throat and rinsing their blood off of his hands. Michael is the main attraction of this book! The angst and the depths of this man was riveting and poignant, the weaving of his past from start to end was brilliantly played.

Enter Sofia. A daughter of a drug lord who devoted her life seeking justice for her father’s deeds. When she was forced to go under Michael’s wings, she will soon realize that the man she once doubted might be the only man she can trust. This character broke me. It’s up to you to find out why.

There was a different form of grit in this book that I really loved. The relentless teasing and tension between Michael and Sofia spiced up this story. The suspense and the drama of this book’s plot gave me a unique experience. I just know this book will create an uproar of emotions in every reader that finishes this book. That is all. I am not spoiling. I am fine. Really.
