Covert Affairs - a review by Rosemary Kenny
This clever, fast-paced and very exciting novel is written in the form of four novellas, False Truth nos 1-4, all linked through main protagonist Jordan and the other well-developed and engaging characters into a seamless whole. I enjoyed it so much that I read it in one go without a break...a definite winner for the multi-talented Diane Capri, exceptional creator of this series and others, [including The Hunt for Jack Reacher series].
Ted Garfield is murdered - decapitated and further mutilated by villain Chester Flynn; his body later turns up at a celebrity event -dumped in a large fish tank inside a nightclub.
Feisty Jordan Fox arrives as a News Channel 12 rookie reporter, only to run into Drew Hodges - a rival from her journalism college course who's also there as a 'cub', but with the advantage of a privileged minor celebrity background to help him up the corporate ladder.
Feeling 'hard done by', Jordan is sent alone to report on the event...her only crumb of comfort is that her BFF Claire, is the guest of honor Cal's fiancee, which she hopes will give her the edge over Drew, in the promotion challenge. The hope turns to near-certainty when she's among the first to notice and photograph the corpse, before pandemonium ensues. What happens in the next chapters of this page-turning thriller will take your breath away and leave you transfixed right to the very end - I loved it and you will too!
